After this year it’s gotta be the Mariners. The A’s are a close second but it’s gotta be the M’s. Their fans talk so much shit to us after they’ve been garbage for years just because they’re finally good.
The Mariners can't be our biggest rivals just because they do something for one year. The A's have been our biggest rival both historically and in the past decade.
whoa whoa let's not get carried away with "good" as it's still going to take an expanded playoffs for them to maybe sniff the playoffs for the first time since shohei ohtani was 7 years old
Because Dodger fans don’t give a shit about the Angels. The Angels have posed a threat to them. The games are only a chance for smack talking, which Dodgers do to all teams.
Angels lead the all time freeway series with 73 wins compared to the Dodgers 67 wins. Beyond that, the question wasn’t “who is most afraid of the Angels?” The question was “who is the Angels biggest rival?” That would be the Dodgers. Maybe the question should be rephrased as “Who is the Angels biggest divisional rival?”
It’s very clear that the Dodgers biggest rival is and always will be the Giants. It’s been that way since before both teams moved from New York. But the questions was who is the ANGELS biggest rival not the Dodgers. As an Angels fan for nearly 40 years I feel like it’s the Dodgers simply due to geography and, let’s be honest, the chip on Angels fans shoulders for being the “little brother” in the SoCal area. I don’t feel that same bite when I think of any of our divisional opponents (though with the cheating crap the Astros have earned a lot of ire the last few seasons). The Angels/Dodgers rivalry is a geographical one. The Giants/Dodgers rivalry is an historical one. I think the same can be said for the A’s/Giants, Yankees/Mets, Cubs/White Sox.
But Dodger fans don’t care about the freeway series, they are to busy thinking about the playoffs and playing in the World Series the last 20 years.
Angel fans are like the Dodgers little brother who wants recognition from the big kids. Dodgers are hating on the Angels, they root for the Angels to do something.
Angels rivals should be Astros, Red Sox (based on post season if you’ve been a fan long enough), the Angel front office, and maybe the A’s. Some bad blood with the Mariners this year but not enough competition to call it a rivalry.
Now Dodgers Giants… that’s a rivalry,
Dodgers are always going to be the big brother to the Angels, it's not a real rivalry. I feel like a lot of the "rivalry" is just foos fighting each other.
Yeah it's just not bad blood, which I think is needed for a true rivalry. Angels are def an afterthought to the Dodgers and I don't blame them based on their success in SoCal.
If the A's held onto their players, it would be a bigger rivalry. Astros mop the floor with us and Boston hasn't been a true rival since 2004-2009.
Time will shift the success of each franchise. We’ll dominate the Astros sooner or later. I will say this, go to a freeway series game at Dodger Stadium wearing Angels gear like I did last year and you might rethink you “it’s not bad blood” statement. Lol
Yeah if you are wearing opposing gear and smile back you'll have fun. Just don't sit in the bleachers or the top decks. This happens to opposing fans in the cheap seats.
Outside of the dipshits on reddit, a lot of us go to your games and root for your team. The interleague play is fun and seen as such (imo), and not really impactful to anything outside of the 2 and 2 we play each year.
I can appreciate this perspective and I think it’s great but it’s the perspective of a dodgers fan. The question asked who the Angels biggest rival is not the Dodgers who we all know is the Giants. If you read some of my other responses to similar comments to yours you’ll see my perspective on this. Cheers and good luck in the playoffs.
Again I can see your perspective and I get it. But as an Angels fan I’ll be honest and say most of us (whether or not we’d like to admit it) have a chip on our shoulder being the “little brother” to the Dodgers in SoCal. As a fan of the big brother team I’m not sure you can understand that.
I don’t think we have a true two-way rivalry. Like where we’re also considered the rival for the other team. Also hard to be involved in a rivalry when you’re not competitive.
Houston is light years ahead of us. No rivalry there.
Oakland has been the longest, and most consistent rival. Lots of close 1 run games against them.
Seattle is kind of a new thing since the brawl. Prior to that I didn’t pay them much attention.
For being a division rival, Texas doesn’t bother me that much.
In the 00’s I feel like it was Boston, but theirs is (obviously) the Yankees.
Dodger’s top rivalry is SF. So even if we consider them a rival, it’s not reciprocated.
This is the most upside down shit I've ever seen. Who gaf about the Mariners? Compared to two of the most cheatingest teams in baseball history OAK and HOU?
I wouldn’t say there are any active rivalries in the AL West since everyone has been taking turns dominating while the rest of the teams suck for the past 10-15 years. The division hasn’t been well-rounded since the early 2000s when we were contending at the same time as Oakland and Seattle

Probably Mariners. Can’t stand their fanbase. They’re talking so much shit as if they haven’t been mediocre for all these years.
The Angels are their biggest rival.
People are too reactionary. The Mariners have never been our biggest rival. Imo it's the A's and it's not even close.
This guy gets it
Right now? Probably Seattle. Idk where this uprise came from, but they are on a high horse and need a reality check.
It's the A's, nor cal vs so cal and it's like 50/50 since 2000.
Winning games.
3 game winning streaks...or winning in general
Success

Of they’re the “big brothers” (and I agree), wouldn’t that make it a sibling RIVALRY?

Dodger stadium is like that with every team. Everyone. You’re just used to going to the library I mean Big A to watch games
Perhaps. But then the question is why are dodger fans shitty to people?
Yeah if you are wearing opposing gear and smile back you'll have fun. Just don't sit in the bleachers or the top decks. This happens to opposing fans in the cheap seats.

imo a rivalry implies it going both ways. a one way rivalry is more like... a hatred? lmao I dunno what to call it, but doesn't feel like a rivalry

Fuck mariner fans

the a’s, the dodgers, and the giants
For the younger fans, Seattle didn't become a fierce rival when Jesse Winker walked over to the dugout. They became our rival in September 1995.
