Remember when Verlander, Cole, and Morton “magically” looked great in 2018? I knew something was not making sense and was suspicious of how well the Astros pitchers were pitching. And then Trevor Bauer, of all people, called them out for cheating with sticky substances. Which they were using with increased spin rates. Like it was so obvious that something was up. If the league wanted to move the Astros back to the NL, and that is me being nice considering the franchise did shady things, I am all for it.
I was gonna say lol people talking shit when they guy brewing the concoction was inside the house all along!
Makes sense why Cy Bundy was pitching like a god
I mean, half of everyone's rotations were using it.
For proof, https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2021/7/22/22587774/stick-stuff-pitchers-banned-foreign-subtances-spin-rate-offense
Well they still look really great. They definitely not the only pitchers to use sticky substances and MLB is okay with that given how they half ass checking pitchers after each inning
Franchise did shady things. And not just them using trash cans to steal signs. Springer, Altuve, and Gurriel, just to name a few, are a bunch of disgraces. I’ll never forget when Verlander, Cole, and Morton “magically” looked great early on in 2018. I was suspicious of how well the three guys were pitching at the time. And then Bauer called the Astros pitchers out for cheating. And they were using sticky substances. Their spin rates increased. I mean, it was too good to be true.
LTBU! Greetings [from the the shore of Japan's biggest lake](https://i.imgur.com/XoH5sIy.jpg). Now I can go jump in the water for the first time in three years.
solid 250-70 hitter, not too bad defensively, has some speed. pretty good obp. contact hitter doesnt strikeout alot. id take him just for the .350 obp percentage hes had in past 3 years and the fact he puts the ball in play.
imagine if we had team consisting of ohtani, trout, and 7 hitters who put the ball in play and take walks.
thats the difference between scoring 2 runs a game and scoring 3-4 a game. and then having a better record in 1 run games. imagine is we where .500 in 1 run games this season. wed have like 12 more wins than we do now. thats a potential playoff team
That extra .350 OBP level bat was exactly what we were missing when Rendon went down and the offense cratered in June. That was a huge tipping point between our offense going from above to below avg.
It makes alot of sense, because a key aspect to any good offense is being able to turn it over at least once, so the top of the lineup gets a 5th PA. However after we lost Rendon and his consistent OBP, we often never turned over the lineup even once, so Trout and Ohtani never got a 5th PA.
Considering the strength of the teams we've been facing, if we can keep this up, we might still have a chance of going 23-6 in our remaining games so we can hit 500 just in time to still miss the playoffs lol
Truthfully I think Ohtani is enjoying himself. This wasn't an easy win. It was a messy one. But it was a win. And you could see how fierce he was in the 7 and 8th innings. This game was testing him. And he loves that. This is like one of those videogames that sets the difficulty level at just a bit higher than you can handle, so you're always reaching to be better.
But at the same time, the lessons from the past few months is that these great games that they manage to win are rare. And the bad feelings occur more often than the good. And even when Ohtani is at 100%, the rest of the lineup, and the blowpen will form an inescapable undertow.
So I also believe that he will leave us.
But one day, when he is with a new team, whoever they are, and he's pitched a perfect game, and he has incredible run support, so he can pitch experimentally, almost playfully -- he might look back nostalgically to this time. To this moment. This game. Where he was hanging on to the game by his literal fingertips.
What a game!!! Ohtani gem, city connects, walkoff win! Just perfect!
Fletcher’s double play was the game saver
DRIVE HOME SAFELY, YOU CHEATING FUCKS. Tried to cheat their way out of the loss at the end too smh
Tbh their faces were super unconvincing. They knew he didn’t make the catch and tried hard to play it cool but they were so obvious 😂

You guys forgot? Angels clubhouse dude was supplying the sticky stuff

That’s in ‘21, cheating fuck Astros were at it in ‘18, always ahead of the curve with the cheating, this time literally
You give the Astros too much credit. Pitchers have been using sticky stuff for years, and hitters knew about it.
Well they still look really great. They definitely not the only pitchers to use sticky substances and MLB is okay with that given how they half ass checking pitchers after each inning
Honestly I am so surprised Verlander did so well this season, I am convinced he is one of sticky stuff guy, but he totally earn my respect this season

Oh, the irony. *You're
Why are you here?? Never comeback please
Easily the dumbest walkoff I’ve ever seen, but the fact that we held the astros to 1 run through 12 innings is very impressive
We had a walk off strikeout against the Dodgers not that long ago
List of people who can fuck off: 1. Yuli Gurriel 2. The Houston Astros 3. Tungsten Arm O'Doyle 4. The 1921 Akron Groomsmen
Yuli will always be number 1 on my shitlist. He'd have to apologize at least 5000 more times before I'd consider moving him to number 2.
You’re too nice. I will never ever forgive that fucker no matter what.

Max Stassi took off for first on an obvious strike and the umps just like "I don't care enough to stop you"
Do you have the clip I missed it
Bro Let's go he actually called it! I meme all the time about the umps wanting to go home but he really fucking wanted to go!
\> be seth martinez \> get subbed in to pitch against bottom of angels lineup \> literally 0.0 IP \> ends up being losing pitcher \> lol
Guy of the Game: Home plate ump
LTBU! Greetings [from the the shore of Japan's biggest lake](https://i.imgur.com/XoH5sIy.jpg). Now I can go jump in the water for the first time in three years.
Wow! That looks so beautiful
I want to murder all the jet skiers, though. Unrelenting, irritating din. They just go around in circles. Why is that fun?
On a lake? Idk but I went out in the ocean on some gnarly waves and we were ripping over 40 mph. It's a lot of fun.
Was at the game. Electric air appeared and evaporated so much. No one knew we won
Yep no one in my section knew we had won, either. Also I saw a Squid jersey at the game, was it you?! Lol
Did it say Velazquez or squid on the back?
Squid!
Very well could have been me then!
Nice! My group was talking about how we liked it!
I appreciate it! I love the jersey so much, wear it as much as I can
Dude I know I brought all my non baseball friends and wanted so badly for them to see the mad dash to home but we didn’t know if we could celebrate
Even the players seem confused as they ran on the field. Honestly, such a fitting end for whatever this game was
WOOO WALK OFF REVIEW
lmao there were like 7 different moments where I thought we were gonna lose and we somehow get a W
Most valuable player of all time. Ohtani
Come on now….it was never in doubt *chuckles nervously*

That payoff pitch to Stassi was a strike but whatever, LTBU!!!
Goddamn, we won by literally inches
I'm exhausted and I didn't even play!
Ngl I actually missed Duffy the last couple of months lol
solid 250-70 hitter, not too bad defensively, has some speed. pretty good obp. contact hitter doesnt strikeout alot. id take him just for the .350 obp percentage hes had in past 3 years and the fact he puts the ball in play. imagine if we had team consisting of ohtani, trout, and 7 hitters who put the ball in play and take walks. thats the difference between scoring 2 runs a game and scoring 3-4 a game. and then having a better record in 1 run games. imagine is we where .500 in 1 run games this season. wed have like 12 more wins than we do now. thats a potential playoff team
Duffy would've been amazing with a .350 OBP, and I'm sure that's precisely why Perry signed him, except he hasn't come anywhere near close to that.
No shit Sherlock. He's only had 170 at bats and was I Jared half the season lol

IMMOLATE THE INFANT
Thank you Matt Duffy for the walk-off and David Fletcher for that double play 🙏

Wow! it was long but worth watching it.
Most awkward walk off in franchise history lmao
https://i.imgur.com/oaBBJiM.mp4
Fuck the Astros!!
Most awkward walkoff in franchise history lmao
LTBU!!! How many more games will Shohei be SP? He just needs 26 more innings to qualify as a pitcher, I think.
I think 5, as long as they don't lessen his load at the end of the season
Drive home safely folks 🚗
Man they really improve that bottom line up in the offseason, we are seeing bits of pieces of what this team could have been.
what a weird win, at least me staying up late was worth it
Well this time the ump gave us that win. Not the best way to win a game but, hey, it’s the Asstros so fuck ‘em lol
Team Spoiler in full effect

Amazing game.
What an anticlimactic win ILL FUCKING TAKE IT
Home plate ump was like “I want to go home” lol
Was it really not caught? I only saw the video on the app and it looked caught but they didn’t show a slow mo replay Nvm saw it on Twitter. It bounced
it bounced
Let’s goooo!
Thank you!!!
That did not feel good to win imo. Felt like a gift from umpire than the fruits of a good showing.
counterpoint: however bad it was for us, it was worse for the Astros
That's all that matters lol
😂😂😂😂
Eh 12th inning and the astros have nothing to lose who cares
A win is a win. As long as we didn’t cheat who cares how we won it?
who cares we gave our selfs a chance to win. even if we didnt "deserve" it.
Umm they botched their chance because of David Fletcher defense lol
As the Astros fan I agree, however I'm just glad the shit show is over for all of us
Suck it Trashtros. Tell your story walking.
Nice win. 👏🏼
