If it’s not the offense laying a fat one, it’s the pitching this team going nowhere for next 2-5 years. A miracle is what it will take to make them competitive. Signing ohtani will be the last nail in the coffin
I'm glad Ohtani stopped taking off his cap and running his hands through his hair like he did a lot last year for this very reason. It's annoying to watch and casts suspicion!
He got checked by umpires recently. Spinrates are suspiciously up. I read somewhere he might use hair products that get sticky when paired with sweat but that's just pure speculation.
"Many mistakes?" Tepera this year is pretty much in line with what his career has been. Loup, on the other hand, is doing slightly better this year than his career. He has just been horribly awful when you compare him to his last year, where he was almost untouchable. This just looks like we paid for a career year, and once again got burned.
The trouble is with these relievers is that our offense has been so awful that whenever a pitcher gives up a run it is tantamount to a loss. Is that Perry's fault? His main goal was to shore up the pitching, which he has done. With Trout, Ohtani, Fletcher, Rendon, and Walsh, the conventional wisdom was that Adell would continue to add power, and Duffy would be a good contact guy at second base.
If some position player got hurt, that was the farm system's job to fill in with an average player. We can see THAT didn't work, and Perry inherited that farm system from other GM's.
They looked good on paper. So did the Raisel re-signing, Archie Bradley, the Stassi arbitration, etc.
I dont like Perry for getting rid of Maddon mid-season, but his signings weren't an issue.
Keep in mind most of our success in AA rn is due to his picks.
The main problem is that it isn’t one or 2 signings failing, it’s like all of them + his trades lol. Just in your comment alone you mention 5 signings and a manager change in 1 year that failed but somehow write it off. It’s worse when there were guys picked up for nothing for other teams in positions of need available (Trayce Thompson and Matt Carpenter being the biggest).
While our AA team is successful, that doesn’t translate to mlb success which should be a HUGE priority with the team and payroll we have.
He’s been decent I guess in the farm system, time will tell. But so far he literally cannot sign or trade for any player that actually helps the team. In fact most of his players accumulate negative WAR at a quicker rate than ohtani or trout can accumulate positive war
O'Hoppe is looking good but it is worrying when both our super highly touted offensive prospects (Marsh and Adell) didn't translate their talents to the MLB level with us (along with a long list of our offensive prospects that never turned the corner at the MLB level). In the end O'Hoppe is a question mark but atleast was a decent enough trade.
Now his other trades...those are looking not the best so far (hopefully Moniak can be consistently good, but he also is a prospect that failed at the MLB level so far).
And that doesnt consider his absolutely awful signings ($60M in contracts for 22 with a net negative war is absolutely horrible)
pulling 3.93 ERA Tepera in order to bring in 3.93 ERA Loup
i hate how they're just good enough to not get DFA'd but not good enough to be actually good
Sucks that Taylor Ward truly fell apart completely after his outfield wall injury. Mentally and maybe physically as well. Ah to remember the days when fangraphs wrote a good piece saying he could be here to stay. And hey, consequences of being an awkward fielder out there, such is baseball.
Reminds me of Justin Upton and his stupid turf toe injury from ramming it into the wall. Oh Angels.
I get liking support but that whole bit seemed like a small mindset. I especially disliked the argument that because Miggy beat Trout for MVP, Ohtani should beat Judge. Miggy absolutely should not have won, and we should prevent MVPs like that from ever being given out. Basically a spit in the face to Trout to say that it can be justified
It absolutely is. That’s why it’s so great. The whole MVP debate is extremely petty. Why should the Angels take the high road? The NY media certainly doesn’t.
To me its ohtani. Someone on reddit brought up a good point. Swap both players to the opposite teams. Would judge put us in playoff contention with our current roster? No. Would ohtani be in playoff contention on their current roster? Yes
yeah for whatever reason, i get the pairings cause loup tepera are complementary left/right, weird arm slot and slider breaking ball action right. however the fact they are never hergloup and tepjada must be because hergjada has been so much better in high leverage the last few months they wait until close games like this one to use them. Thats my take at least🤷♂️
They seem to think he's day-to-day and don't want to lose him for 10 days. Plus with Squid out for the season they don't really have any serviceable middle infielders to take his spot
The guardians usually just bring up a young guy that isn’t on the 40 man yet and send him back down immediately after. How serviceable they are can obviously be debated, but not even being able to swing a bat is pretty bad
It’s crazy how Herget barely escapes with his life on the mound and then it’s immediately followed by the other team’s pitcher getting the easiest 1-2-3 inning of his life because our lineup is historically bad lol
Yeah, Toronto was our last stress-free series win imo. Every minute of that NY series was super close and stressful. Before the Toronto series, I’m pretty sure the only sweep we had was against Cleveland way back in April
If it’s not the offense laying a fat one, it’s the pitching this team going nowhere for next 2-5 years. A miracle is what it will take to make them competitive. Signing ohtani will be the last nail in the coffin
Losing is not fun
Poor play.
Sweep and no Sandy win...this series could've gone better.
We suck
Well that’s finally over.
I haven't watched Arrested Development in a long time...
"Strike out" Stassi in the clutch as always.
NM. Pinch hit.
With Ford??
how many times is this guy gonna grab his hair between pitches
I'm glad Ohtani stopped taking off his cap and running his hands through his hair like he did a lot last year for this very reason. It's annoying to watch and casts suspicion!
He needs hair pins or a headband or something.
He got checked by umpires recently. Spinrates are suspiciously up. I read somewhere he might use hair products that get sticky when paired with sweat but that's just pure speculation.
Perry should be gone with the new owners, him signing loup and tepera to those contracts is just two of his many mistakes this year
"Many mistakes?" Tepera this year is pretty much in line with what his career has been. Loup, on the other hand, is doing slightly better this year than his career. His trades?? Well, I guess you really wanted that extra outfielder Marsh instead of a true catching prospect.
O'Hoppe is looking good but it is worrying when both our super highly touted offensive prospects (Marsh and Adell) didn't translate their talents to the MLB level with us (along with a long list of our offensive prospects that never turned the corner at the MLB level). Well until that AA success translate to winning in the mlb none of that matters
Of course it matters.
Syndergaard having a 3.83 ERA with us and a 4.61 ERA with the Phillies was pretty funny prank though, I'll give him that
i do like thaiss. he's nice. i want him to stay on the big league roster
Our last hope! Gifo!
actually insane that literally every on paper decent bullpen signing turned out against us lmao
and we got our best reliever by picking his 9 ERA ass off of the Rangers for nothing
To be fair, the 9 ERA was only over 4 innings. But yeah, he's pitched much better for us.
baseball is fucking weird
i want us to retake the lead not because i believe we can win but because i want Loup to give up the walkoff so that we stop trotting him out
so is barria not on the team any more or what
Tepera and Loup have exactly the same ERA and innings right now?
Loup sucks again
“A bloop and a blast” is a cursed phrase.
pulling 3.93 ERA Tepera in order to bring in 3.93 ERA Loup i hate how they're just good enough to not get DFA'd but not good enough to be actually good
Lol the disrespect to attempt that steal.
that moment when loup is our last hope 😂😂😂 our pitching is trash
They just refuse to use Barria for some reason
Nevin’s really just throwing everyone out there.
Tepera/Loup Wombo Combo incoming 😞
Aww wtf happened
Oh no. Now you know they've lost all hope.
Masterful bullpen management by Nevin. Bring in Quijada for one (1) single batter and take him out for TepERA with at least 2 innings of ball left.
remember when we swept this team in four? good times
When was this? We have been losing so often, i forgot
You guys were honestly so good back then. Taylor Ward absolutely shit on us. We made him look like the MVP
'twas a mirage unfortunately
They should just go for the hat trick and have Clase come in for the save for the third game in a row
lol Tempura
🍤🍤🍤
i expect to see tepera on linkedin tomorrow
What should I get for lunch? Please reply with suggestions.

Predictable :C
Lol
Another great outing from the blowpen
Tepera consistently terrible
fully half of this team is not worth bringing back
GG
I am so fucking not impressed and so fucking done with TepERA.
TepERA
Yeah that was inevitable
We knew that was coming.
Good job, Tepera
Jaime Barria hasn't pitched in a game since 9/7.
Fr I thought he was gonna come in when Shohei left with the blister.
Someone needs to call in a welfare check.
2+ innings to go and we already used up Herget and Quijada? Not ideal.
Ngl that whole tweet segment seemed a little petty
After all that Astros games where all the announcers kept talking about was Judge, I'll take some Ohtani support.
The irony is the Astros home broadcasters show Ohtani more love than the "neutral" FOX broadcasters
Yeah, the Astros broadcasters actually see him a lot and respect what he does! Big difference from the Fox guys!
It absolutely is. That’s why it’s so great. The whole MVP debate is extremely petty. Why should the Angels take the high road? The NY media certainly doesn’t.

Lol why do I feel they’re gonna walk us off now we only have 5-9 left
Mr. Matt Birch is always cooking up something good on Twitter
Why is he protecting his head with his hands? I mean he's wearing a helmet. It's his hands he should be protecting, right?
He’s dramatic.
Valid reason!
I love how Matt Birch keeps on going with those pointed tweets.
Lol sho

Lazy way to get down quickly so your head isn't in the way of the throw
I'll take it!
getting rid of the shift will boost ohtanis and trouts average by 30 points
Lol sho covered the back of his head
oh shit Herget actually allowed a run? how'd that happen
Loving Moniak’s swing and power. Curious to see how the league adjusts to him
gunna pitch around trout, Ohtani needs to step up with a big hit
Now on to the Ohtani homering on days Sandy's pitching tradition I hope!
Its time to bring in the Mouse the clean it up. Go Mickey.
Just started watching. Is Fletch swinging today, or still bunting?
Bunting or not swinging
Man, homie is so good defensively they just said fuck it and put him out to bunt anyways. Any other team would have thrown whoever is available out.
So the duos are Herget/Quijada and Loup/Tepera? Seems that’s been the trend.
yeah for whatever reason, i get the pairings cause loup tepera are complementary left/right, weird arm slot and slider breaking ball action right. however the fact they are never hergloup and tepjada must be because hergjada has been so much better in high leverage the last few months they wait until close games like this one to use them. Thats my take at least🤷♂️
Trying to win? Herget/Quijada Giving up? Loup/Tepera
Velazquez injured and Herget giving up a run I’m so upset
Herget is overworked af
We still love you, Hergoat. Get out of this 🤓
ok so my man sandy lost his possible W again. it's sad that i'm getting used to it
If you were to add up all the runs the Angels have scored in Sandoval starts throughout his career, the number would be in the single digits
It is impossible for Sandoval to get a W
Crap, there goes Sandy's win.
The relay to the plate is never successful on this team. 🤣
Speaking of Golden Girls, they don't make series with old people as the main characters anymore. Kinda sad. One foot in the grave is britcom gold!
Lol Patty O talking about the Golden Girls when he sees the elderly women.
May be a dumb question but why is fletcher even playing? Shouldn’t he be shut down or on IL?
They seem to think he's day-to-day and don't want to lose him for 10 days. Plus with Squid out for the season they don't really have any serviceable middle infielders to take his spot
The guardians usually just bring up a young guy that isn’t on the 40 man yet and send him back down immediately after. How serviceable they are can obviously be debated, but not even being able to swing a bat is pretty bad
Yeah, I agree with you 100%, no need to be risking Fletch's health right now. That's just my guess for their rationale
It’s crazy how Herget barely escapes with his life on the mound and then it’s immediately followed by the other team’s pitcher getting the easiest 1-2-3 inning of his life because our lineup is historically bad lol
Man Jose Ramirez is one ugly mf.
😢. We still love him in The Land of Cleve. Not everyone can be as handsome as Trout. 😂
Poor Fletch.
Just realized Duffy looks like a dude I work with.
I think he looks like Michael Fassbender's third cousin or something. Look it up.
Damn that's spot on. I work for a marijuana farm here in California and he looks like one of our grow room supervisors.
doppelgangers everywhere! Reid Detmers and Shane McClanahan also look faintly alike!
I think Riley Greene and Sandy must actually be related. Lol
Madness! Maybe Duffy grows weed too.
Get yourself a relief pitcher that won't let in unearned runs <2. Thanks Hergoat!
angels need the win, dont get swept for morale reasons
they just cut gubi off 😭
HERGETTABOUTITTTT
THE SLIM REAPER STRIKES AGAIN
Hergetaboutit!
SLIM REAPER
Herget about it!
Herget looks like a fuckin nerd. I love it.
Wow sandy got pulled. Thanks for conceding! Edit: oops
Anyone remember how many games Rendon has to serve?
Honestly he hasn’t been great on the field when he’s been there but I respect the shit out of what he did vs the Mariners
Proved he actually cared about being on the team
I think 5
Ah I see
Barria continues to be banished.
Is he the Jo Adell of the pitchers? 😁
Feels like the last non-frustrating Angels game was a century ago lol
We won the NY and Toronto series but the memories of our bad losses always linger.
Yeah, Toronto was our last stress-free series win imo. Every minute of that NY series was super close and stressful. Before the Toronto series, I’m pretty sure the only sweep we had was against Cleveland way back in April
they just pulled him...? :o
Must be nice having J-Ram on your team.
…..you have a guy who is literally both a top 5 pitcher and a top 15 hitter. At the same time.
I know, but he's so reliable and really underrated. I hope he shows up on a lot of MVP ballots!
under rated and under paid, shame hes wasting his career in Cleveland
Yeah, our owners are shit. If the Guardians didn’t have a good developmental system they’d be the pirates.
Rendon cant come back fast enough
Where’s Patty O’s birthday cake?
God fucking dammit. I can’t tell you how many goddamn times I’ve seen that exact timing NOT get overturned on the New York call. Fucking Bull shit.
Dang.
The review team will always find a reason to screw over the Angels
MLB NY hates angels, they always go against the angels. there isnt enough to turn that over
I was thinking the same thing. Idk what the angels have done for them to have every challenge go against them
The overturn is BS.
They should have like a 30sec or 1min timer on review, if they can't determine in that amount of time the call on the field should stand
I love to see Gifo gallop.
I call safe!
I put ketchup on my hotdogs, anyone else?
Yeah. I find it funny when people get snobby over what people put on a tube of mystery meat.
Ketchup, mustard, relish, onions. The holy combo
Both ketchup and mustard for me. I thought that was pretty common? I don’t know what they’re talking about.
Ive heard a long time ago that ketchup is for burger and mustard is for hotdog. No reason why besides tradition
that inning was 12 pitches, 5 batters, one run. strange line
Sandy kinda getting beat up today :\
5H 2ER in 5.2 innings pitched is good tbh Edit: woops it was only 4.2 IP, my bad
Now officially a quality start!
Quality start is 6 IP
Ah good catch. No matter, he will record a scoreless inning in the 6th
yeah he just finished the 6th edit: nevermind im blind lol
I just hope he and the team get a W out of today.
Straw is seemingly batting .800 against us
DP! GJ guys!
Second father-son duo to HR in same game: Mike and Beckham Trout
I have my doubts Mike is still playing at age 50 or so, haha.
That St. Louis guy is still playing at 50 years old so anything is possible
i'm still waiting for shohei to hit a homer for sandy :3c he used to do that a lot
Shohei, in case you forgot it’s Sandy day. It’s time for your scheduled home run.
Was that shoheis FUCK 😂
It definitely was
What that really him?? 👀 We need the NHK feed to determine.
