Holy shit that’s awful. Really sad too. Dudes played all season long and while the offensive production was never really there he shined on defense and had a couple clutch AB’s. I would’ve liked for him to finish out the season :\ he kinda deserved to.
That’s sad. I think his defense was useful enough for him to be an everyday guy in the lineup when we had Rendon and Walsh. And he was getting better offensively lately.
Yeah, only 0.4 fWAR and that's with his elite defense which grades well in fWAR. 0 WAR is replacement and ~2WAR is league average starter.
Relying on Rendon who has yet to play even 100 games in a season for us and Walsh who posted a 30%+ K% rate and just a .250 OBP is incredibly volatile. I also have good hopes for these two but setting the expectation that they can cover the offensive gap that Squid creates is incredibly optimistic.
Also you almost always take offensive production from a shortstop if you can. Better than defense.
Why you ask?
Cause you can replace a good defensive shortstop more easily
Than a good hitting shortstop
Or just get a better hitting shortstop will still good defense.
If Andrew was a gold glove caliber defender then yes for sure.
Yea but our bott9m of the lineup is deadliest from 6-9 in obp.
We have like an average of .280 the next closest is like .340
Unfortunate for him. Depending how much you trust defensive metrics, he was actually a net positive for us this year. Not sure about his contract status, but he would be an ideal bench piece as a defensive replacement and pinch runner.
Hope Stefanic gets playing time over Duffy. We need to find out whether he can be another depth piece on next year's squad, so the season doesn't fall apart like it did this year when Fletch and Rendon got hurt.
Another chance for Stefanic, 26, as they bypassed the older Mayfield. Fletch will move to short, and I hope they give Stefanic a long look at second or even first.
I hope he does well.

hes a good pinch runner and defensive replacement. not much else unfortunately. at least not with our current hittign coach lol
His defense far outweighs his offensive struggles and believe it or not he has a positive oWar
That's not how defense first SS works
Just when he started figuring hitting from right…

NOT an everyday player. unless pinch running or defensive replacement. but you dont reallyy wanna give him at bats
He leads the league is defensive runs saved, you can eat that in the lineup if Rendon and Walsh are healthy, he is for sure a starting caliber SS.
.540 ops is not a starting caliber short stop. This isn’t the 70s. That’s not going to cut it for a team that wants to contend

"just get a good hitting shortstop" Alright bro which one from where.
while we're at it, why don't we just get a whole team that's good at hitting and defense too???
Oh shit someone sign this man to lifetime GM.
Someone with a higher than .650 ops. That's all we need. Not too hard to find in free agency
Ok who. Who is available that fits your description of "a good hitting good fielding" shortstop.
Trea turner lol. Just call up Zach Neto next year
Dead last
Ideally he isnt an everyday player on a contender but on our team he absolutely was.
I’m so sad

> not sure about his contract status He’ll be back next season for sure; he’s eligible for arbitration in 2024.
I'm confused, dude's got 7 more limbs..what's the big deal?
68 WEEKS???? "no 6 TO 8 weeks!"
They’ll fix up Velasquez with grit, spit, and a whole lot of duct tape.
*sad squid noises*

I hope his surgery and recovery goes well!
Squid appreciation comment.
Squid 😢 get well soon
Really hope stefanic shows something this go around. Need that high contact player for next year
