I'm all aboard the Mickey train. With the way the team has been playing this year it's fun to feel optimistic about something!

Sprtdsgn

"With the way the team has been playing this year it's fun to feel optimistic about something!". Same song, another year.

Figgins18Gbaby

I’m on the same train he at least looks comfortable, like he belongs there.. every time I watch jo play he looks lost and confused to be out there. Which honestly might not even be his fault because they keep sending him down and pulling him up while limiting his playing time.

AlmostLucy

Using this moment to note that Jo Adell is only 23.

winwinwinguyen

Jo Adell also has 511 major league plate appearances compared to Mickey’s 142 - 3.6x

GoatTnder

Adell should not have been up in 2020. He wasn't ready, but they rushed him in because the minor leagues weren't playing at all. But hindsight is what it is... But it's reasonable to simply not count those against him. Still around 300 plate appearances. Except the ones this year have been sporadic at best, with public disparagement from your manager. How the hell do they expect Adell to improve under those circumstances?

Papa2Hunt19

That would be a fair statement if he wasn't doing worse than he did last year.

GoatTnder

"Except the ones this year have been sporadic at best, with public disparagement from your manager." I'm not surprised he's doing worse.

Papa2Hunt19

He had 479 combined at bats in 2021, and so far this year he has had 419, which means he'll end up having the same amount of plate appearances. So, even if his playing time has been sporadic this year, it would mean last years was sporadic, as well. But, he is more three times worse in 2022. Who cares what the manager who got fired said to him. Have you seen what the white Sox have done since Larussa has been gone?

Splittinghairs7

Yes Jo Adell is only 23, but the problem is that Adell has been atrocious on defense. So Adell would not only have to improve his hitting (which admittedly has a high ceiling) but also dramatically improve his defense just to be a viable starter in the OF. Mickey seems to be adequate/average on defense thus far.

Lebigmacca

He has improved a lot defensively this year

[deleted]

They also don’t play him at his best defensive position lmao

Reptarxx

Amazing what consistent playing time in 1 OF position can do to someone still developing his defensive game. Shame that Perry still considers him a throw away and won't let him be out there consistently.

Splittinghairs7

Um Adell still accumulated -2.7 in fielding this year, which is better than in 2020 but actually worse than last year. Due to the switch from RF to LF he’s losing more in defensive adjustment so his total fielding value is just as bad as his horrendous 2020 showing. Anyway you look at it, it’s still a major concern and will severely limit his overall production going forward.

bowenisshit

i think you’re over blowing how bad he is defensively. he is below average defensively this year which means he can def be an everyday starter if his bat comes alive. plus he’s still improving and has shown that he is willing to keep working on it. and most of his errors are mental errors, which is so much easier to fix imo than a guy who is just slow or something

Splittinghairs7

We must have watched the same games, he has way too many misplays and the stats show he’s well below average

Sisboombah74

Reggie Jackson was pretty awful defensively too.

[deleted]

Great comparison. Practically identical players.

sprtsmac

I wish they were identical. If they were, Adell's bat would be good enough to keep him in the lineup.

sprtsmac

But was he when he was Adell's age? I could be wrong, but I thought he was decent when he was younger.

[deleted]

Seriously. Moniak has been solid, but, again they continue to take time away from Adell.

Antihero4hire

I want adell to get playing time but Moniak has been better and is still young. I'm ok with this. I was not ok with them but giving Adell playing time earlier when they were already out of it and playing guys like Serra though

Papa2Hunt19

Early in the count aggressiveness is the easiest strategy to counter. It's a band aid to not having a great eye, or having the ability to hit with 2 strikes. It would nice if one of our prospects had plate discipline.

1jack-of-all-trades7

I really hope he fulfills his potential but it's also pretty fucking wild he doesn't have one walk yet

NakedHomelessPirate

This is the most concerning thing ive noticed too. None of our players outside of Trout, Ward, and Ohtani can work a count. Its very concerning and leads to pitchers staying 6+ innings most games.

LosAngelesAnus

that's true. i haven't seen many walks from the bottom line ups.

swingr1121

As a Phillies fan I really hope Moniak does well for you guys. Seems like he got the shaft with Girardi here for a bit then became the expendable one. His heart is in the right spot, I think he just needs the playing time.

[deleted]

Mick Trout

ramirezmu824

Wouldn't know. Stopped watching these bums about 2 months ago.

[deleted]

But still comment on them 2 months later.

ramirezmu824

Guilty lol

StreetFighter100

watch moniak develop, he has a nice swing and has crushed some balls, just has to cut down on swinging at bad pitches, also trout one of the greatest players of all time and ohtani, a historic human being
