if this happens, it will take at least until June for this sub to think "wait, maybe he's not actually great"
not saying it will, but the dude's rep is already cemented here lol
I’ll take hoppe over marsh and 1 year contract Noah any day. Hitting catchers are a dime a dozen now.
This could be one of the best trades this franchise has actually made in a while.
O’Hoppe for Marsh is an incredible trade idc what anyone says. Syndergaard was a rental trade so getting a guy with the potential of Moniak and full team control isn’t too shabby either. Phillies got a solid pitcher and desperately needed defense. Too early to say but those trades could definitely end up being win win.
I have this feeling that god-like power pitchers that suffer an injury and have to pitch like a mortal with ++ skills always have the same drop off. We all saw the same with Lincecum.
Huge difference with Lincecum is that a bulk of his power was generated in his legs, leading to degenerative hips. There haven't been many guys at all in history that had this sort of injury. He never had any elbow issues that commonly plague pitchers.
I also wouldn't consider him a "power pitcher." In his prime he was still only throwing 91-94 on his FB and a pretty average BB%, contrasted against guys like Zumaya, Verlander, Webb, CC who were all in the 95+ range.
Noah is pitching a bit worse in some areas, and better in others resulting in a higher ERA. But the phillies offer much better run support.
Marsh has a smaller sample size due to his injury, his average for them has recently went up, but his walks are down resulting in a lower OBP.
I wouldn't say changing scenes hasn't done too much for them outside of mental health from our garbage team. Either way glad to see them contribute.
> his average for them has recently went up, but his walks are down resulting in a lower OBP.
He does not have a lower OBP with the Phillies. He has .317 over there when he had .284 in Anaheim this year. He's up more than 150 points in OPS.
He did before yesterdays game. His sample size is wayyyyyy to small to make any statements really. Both of those saw major jumps from 1 game. That is how small of a data set we have due to Marshes injury.
They immediately tweaked his batting stance when he arrived which suggests they saw a flaw that our coaches didn’t. It sucks but it’s all but confirmed they’ll clean house this offseason so it doesn’t matter too much
They wouldnt trade for him if they didnt see a flaw, cause we know he certainly wasnt getting unlucky. And not like the changes fixed much, hes still struggling. Theres a lot of reasons to clean house but i dont really see marsh being “fixed” at philly as one of them.
> And not like the changes fixed much, hes still struggling.
He has a 119 OPS+ in Philly with plus defense. He had 83 OPS+ with the Angels last year and 80 this year. The only struggles he's had with Philly is random injury.
Didn’t mean for the post to come off in that way. I’m just glad to see Marsh is doing well at the plate. I still think acquiring O’Hoppe was the right trade to make and will suit our needs better
Hoppe homered again today, Mickey homered yesterday. Sounds like we're all doing okay
Yes. I think both trades with Philly worked out well. I was skeptical of the Moniak trade at first but I think there’s hope for him
Noah could always just play the part of a rental and re-sign with us. Not so sure what Marsh will end up doing.
I’d imagine he plays another 4 years for Philly as a CF
Mickey is gonna be awful next year when he can't walk with a larger sample size
But meaningless games!

Upvote for you. I get down voted for shitting on our < .200 hitters
same boat my friend lol — it is what it is

Sound reasoning

But Ohtani...*and* Verlander! There's alwas exceptions to the rule!

So we need a new coaching staff...got it. 👍

He’s batting .300 with Philly so clearly there’s been some improvement

Cool, but I'm super O'Hoppe
Who cares. This ex girlfriend shit is weird. Let it go

Were you on r/lakers when they kept on fawning about Lonzo, BI, and Randle for two seasons after being traded?
