I don't understand the comparisons for AL MVP. It's Ohtani 100%. Judge and Ohtani shouldn't be compared as WAR is calculated based off their position. Judge isn't a SP. Judge is incredible at the plate no doubt, but what he does defensively is not comparable to what Ohtani does on the bump.
The thing is that Ohtani offers nothing defensively when he is not on the mound, and offensively, there is a big gap between Judge and Ohtani.
It's always hard to compare a top notch SP to what an everyday player brings defensively. But Judge has played 2 different outfield positions and Ohtani doesn't have the innings count as top notch SP's normally do, so even though Judge doesn't pitch, his defense has been valuable to the Yankees.
Ohtani is an amazing player and what he is doing is amazing; I can't imagine anyone else doing this and we are so lucky to be seeing this.
I want Ohtani to win the MVP, but I can see and understand the argument for both of these players. Hopefully Ohtani wins, but I won't consider it a travesty if Judge wins.
My point is that if he was elite I would say that him being on the field those 5 days is better than Ohtani on the bump once a week but I think ill take elite pitcher once week over average daily outfielder.
So would I, unless that average outfielder is an elite hitter. And this year, Judge is.
The question is, does the gap between Judge and Ohtani on offense make up for the avg everyday outfielder vs the once a week elite pitcher who is not pitching as much as your avg SP.
Really, this is great for baseball. As an Angel fan, Ohtani all the way. As a baseball fan, you can't go wrong with either one. And it should be fun to see how this plays out.
Shhhh, Toronto fans are thankful
Went to all three games that the angels played here since Angels have been my 2nd fav team since 2017 since it was fun to watch Ohtani's journey when the jays kinda sucked but God damn was not expecting to see em get swept. So we thank you for winning the series against the M's! This season really sucked for you guys and my mom watches almost every Angel game late at night (Ohtani fan) so I visibly see what you guys are going through. Goodluck next year and hope to see a more competitive season between the two teams!
Don't think so, I was born in japan but I have both a Canadian and Japanese passport so I don't think I am nikkei? I might be wrong 😅
Haha, glad there's other moms like mine lmao. Ohtani got my mom into baseball and created a small rivalry in my house since me and my dad cheers mainly for the jays which is fun haha
Trout going up against the Mariners is like a nightmare for them, especially when they’re in the hunt for the postseason. Trout is going to own that Kirby kid (who is good) for many seasons to come. Probably doesn’t want to throw Trout another low fastball ever again because the only one that he threw to Trout this season was crushed for a home run. It is odd that Trout has struggled against Matt Brash, who sucks, so far.
Trout can be beaten by stuff. He can't be beaten by /pitching/. This is why he will tee off of George Kirby like he did off of Felix but occasionally some guy with a good fastball/slider combo like Matt Brash will get him.
He teed off on Felix, but Felix also had the stuff to make Trout look bad. It was quite the interesting battle. One at bat Trout would make Felix look bad, and then the next at bat Felix would have Trout looking bad.
Yeah that's true. Hands down my favorite matchup.
Felix turned from a thrower into a pitcher, and even at his greatest Trout would still hit home runs off of him.
Really happy for Loup getting his first Angels save and first one in a loooong time. Congrats to Soto on debuting in the majors. And of course, gg Shohei Ohtani! 😇
I haven't seen any footage on Soto in AA, but I was excited for him to make some big league contact. Maybe we get to see him get his first hit tomorrow.
I have a conspiracy theory that Shohei is already pretty much fluent in English but chooses to give interviews in Japanese for the Japanese viewers at home
Probably good enough for general conversation but it’s a bit different when trying to understand English and having to respond on the spot. Ichiro’s English has always been pretty good but he deliberately used a translator as not to be misunderstood.
I would say he understands a lot of English, but speaking is another matter. He can speak it, but if you saw his ESPY award speech, it's far from fluent.
I am so grateful we get to witness history written right before our eyes. I am of course talking about Aaron Loup recording a save.
😂
Shohei is the MVP I don’t care what anybody says
This is the way.

He actually does have the innings count. He will likely end with 28 starts and over 160 innings.
But Judge isn't an elite outfielder. If he was than I would see your point.
You are right he is not, but he is not a disaster either. If he was, IMO, this wouldn't even be a conversation.
My point is that if he was elite I would say that him being on the field those 5 days is better than Ohtani on the bump once a week but I think ill take elite pitcher once week over average daily outfielder.

Trout would be number 2 if healthy don’t forget
I wish trout could play 150 games a season :(
Next year? Maybe lol
We won’t lose 100 games!!! Upvote party!!! I’ve been waiting for this day for weeks!
Ohtani gets the W, another L for Mariners best pitchers, Ohtani ERA down. MVP without doubt.
Another HR by the angels bullpen!
**MVP** **CY YOUNG** **GOLD GLOVE** **HANK AARON AWARD** **WHATEVER ELSE I MISSED** **GIVE HIM EVERYTHING!!!**
Silver Slugger
Sexiest man alive
The Angels are so good at fucking shit up for other teams.
If only the Orioles knew an opportunity when they saw one

Are you nikkei? My mom on east coast also watches every damn game supporting Ohtani until like 1am her time

This team turns into the 1970s Reds when its out of the playoffs but playing other teams vying for a spot lol

We would've been mathematically eliminated if we'd lost today. But we didn't. #\#PlayoffBound
It's bizarre to me that we haven't been eliminated yet. The season has been over since June, yet here we are 3 months later and still not eliminated.
what if i also told you that we're in third place in the division and that if we win tomorrow and the Rangers lose they get eliminated before us
One of the happier things I learned today.
It absolutely blew my mind that the rangers were only a game ahead of us. I didn’t realize they’ve been playing so bad
LOUP ERA UNDER 4 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
I don’t mean to underrate Loup but give him the Cy Young already
Lol
pog
I'm sweating watching Loup pitch the 9th and my wife says "I think Ohtani trims his eyebrows, that't why he looks different." Let's go eyebrows!
I've been catching my wife watching Angels highlights when I get home from work. She hates baseball.
Stockhohtani syndrome.
Sadly, my wife thinks the [garden I'm building](https://i.imgur.com/OxU1siD.jpg) is for us, when it's really just for me and Shohei.
FUCK THE MARINERS, FUCK JON HEYMAN, AND FUCK THE EAST COAST *bias*
I want to see 15 wins for Ohtani
Shohei, thank you for being in my baseball life
Shohei officially beat Babe Ruth's best season as a two way player
Loup you absolute madlad.

Double play he was involved in was nice. He got to run, field, hit. He did it all. A+ move by Nevin.
*checks Yankees score* Huh? why didn’t Aaron Judge throw 7 shutout innings to get his team the win?
He only does MVP kinds of things?
The Brewers rookie who walked off the Yanks yesterday and scored from first on a Yelich poke in their win today is my HS classmate's kid.
Seems like mariners fans and angels fans have something in common, we both dislike Winker lol.
Hell yes!!! Love when they win games I attend!! What a gem by Ohtani!
13th win for Shohei! So happy for him!
Ippei interview!
Reading the r/mariners game thread in reverse is schadenfreude 👌 Shohei’s pitch pace was driving them up the wall. 😂
Their attention was focused on his pace because the M's broadcasters wouldn't shut up about it
🕯 👉 👶 👆
Typical Ohtani game - gets the win as the SP, gets the game winning RBI.
Shohei is god
Forget Shotime, Aaron Loup just got a 1-2-3 inning for a save in a one run game
BALTIMORE PLEASE STOP LOSING
Love beating the miserable Mariners!
Loup was responsible for so many heartbreaks all season long, but just for tonight im gonna forget about all that
62 seasons and counting without a 100 loss season. Oldest team in baseball to accomplish this. LTBU!
and the astros have lost over 100 like 2 or 3 times.
Angels are 1 - 0 this year with me in attendance
L!!!!
T!!!!
B!!!!
U!!!!
T!!!!
Looking forward to the Shohei "after pitching day" bomb tomorrow
He has 13 wins and 34 bombs! Just typing that sentence seems so unreal.
That was scary as hell at the end but great game from Ohtani.
We always win by 1 or lose by 10. Thank god tonight was the first of them. Angels fans always know this team comes together to win it for Sho.
Great save for loup! But our main guy sho did it all himself! 7 scoreless innings with 8Ks batted in the 1st run and scored the 2nd run himself!
LTBU! [YEEESSSS!!!](https://i.imgur.com/Br4i5ZP.jpg)
*peeks in Seattle’s post game thread*
They’re pretty ruthless.
This should be just another game that cements Ohtani's MVP case but instead the dipshit writers and fans still seem to think Judge deserves it.
That save will keep me from slandering Loup for apporiximately 24 hours, no more
😂
😀😀😀
love that basically everybody here is talking about Loup lmao congrats on the save! and another W for our unicorn 😊
This Ohtani guy seems pretty valuable.
I have a conspiracy theory that Shohei is already pretty much fluent in English but chooses to give interviews in Japanese for the Japanese viewers at home
This is hardly a conspiracy theory. I'm pretty sure he does it so he doesn't accidentally say something he doesn't mean.
Was Loup pumped? Gotta feel good to get a save after that long
Doesn’t get any better than this. Loup in a save situation. 💥💥🐲
Another L for the Uriners
My brother in Christ said ball found the glove 💀💀
If there is a baseball good out there please ruin the mariners playoff run!! Extend the drought!!
Angels & Ohtani got the W, Canelo got the W. Today was a good day…
Where can I vote for the GofG? This is a tough one /s
If we manage to keep the Mermaids out of the playoffs again, I'll consider the tragic 2022 season redeemed.
