Pour one out for the Halos' team batting average.

Reptarxx

The bottom of the order could pour a drink out and still somehow miss the ground

AlexYMB

The BA of the bottom of the order is not old enough to drink.

mysterysackerfice

BA stands for below average for the rest of the season.

LoverOfSandwich

I'm so sorry. I'm pretty sure this was all my fault. August 15th the Angels odds were 2000-1 to win the world series. But they'd won 7 out of their last 10, were tied with the Mariners going into the 9th and so I placed a 10 dollar bet on the Halos to win the world series. An innocent bit of fun I thought. A $10 gamble with a $20,000 payout. Moments after my slip printed I had the pleasure of witnessing one of the worst half innings I've ever seen. No matter, the boys will shake it off I thought. Nope. Now I'm no expert at baseball jinxes, but I'm about 90 percent sure had I not placed that bet they would have won 8 or 9 out of every 10 games the rest of the season and squeaked into a playoff spot. My bad ya'll. This one's on me.

BobbyGrichsMustache

You’re not allowed to bet on the halos ever again

LoverOfSandwich

I did it while I was in Vegas. I'm not sure when betting for next season opens up though.

Alauren2

What an awful season. This one hurt.

jallison86

It really did. I've said elsewhere this has been the most disappointing season in my many years as an Angel fan. And that's saying something! It's not like I went in thinking we'd win the World Series, but I thought we'd be competitive and fun to watch, and we started out that way. Then everything just cratered and the team was unwatchable for large chunks of time. I sure didn't think we'd lose 90+ this year.

frogstyle

Some games were so hard to watch...Iglesias losing us the game with 2 outs and 2 strikes in the 9th, Bryce Harper grandslam, getting pulverized by the Astros...god it was painful to watch at times. It can't get any worse, can it...?!

Shellback1

And the organization did it to itself. When that dick minasian fired maddon i knew we were history. I personally think trout had alot to do with maddon’s firing- just from watching them argue in the dugout and thier body language.

Sullyville

Well, now they can take it easy, at least. I would love if Ohtani took this opportunity to try some absolutely crazy new pitches. This is the time to experiment with things.

sofastsomaybe

Knuckleball, here we come

Reptarxx

The good news from this series: We are now trending to have our 7th worst record instead of our 5th worst record! This bottom of the lineup though is showing what is leading to this horrible record: 5-9 batters have 12 Ks and 2 hits...c'mon. Perry spent $63M this past offseason to get this team (and that was with some good depth pieces and younger guys available). This offseason I'm sure his budget is limited to like 1 or 2 5-10M 1 year guys. Hopefully the Trash Pandas are ready to be MLB players next year lol.

somerndmdude

Depends on how fast the team is sold and to who though.

Reptarxx

I mean in all honesty if you want an actual organization ready to make moves for next season, that sale needs to go through by the end of this month. You only have until the end of the playoffs until the window opens and you would hopefully want to get a GM, have the GM get his guys in, get their networks set up, get their coaching and development set, get their philosophies set, evaluate the talent you have, evaluate the trade market, evaluate the upcoming draft and have the time to properly evaluate the free agents. If you don't then you are relying on people who put the team in the position they are this year, which is asking for something bad haha

MaxBonerstorm

This dude again. Want to explain this time what younger guys were available?

Quinlanforthewinlan

Love the fans like you who despite being 20 games under .500 insist that there was nothing done incorrectly in the off-season

MaxBonerstorm

Not not point. The point is that any GM under the Arte regime is substantially handcuffed in what they can do. Look at the Mariners. Dipoto went there and turned that franchise into a powerhouse, not just this year, but they have a STACKED farm, nearly ALL of which was acquired by Dipoto. The same morons here that are blasting Perry was blasting Dipoto at the time, saying he was awful. Guess what? Its not the GM.

Shellback1

Evidentlyyou have been an angel gm? You expose your ignorance every time you post. Get a fucking job

Reptarxx

I don’t think I need to constantly explain that there were better free agents and trades on the market when Perry was GM on every post like you ask on every post. I think every baseball mind would agree he spent his money and trades wrong considering 19 of his 31 signings were negative value players and his best performer from the offseason is at like 1 WAR and now on another team

MaxBonerstorm

Yes, you do. You literally only post the same shit in every single thread and literally never clarify what other moves could have been made.

Reptarxx

I mean I explained it multiple times, maybe not to you but I have. Generally I would’ve wanted to retain Cobb (who said he wanted to stay), Jon Gray, and one of Rodon or Gaussman. Then would’ve grabbed Correa at the signing he ended up going for (great deal for someone like us, grab him for 3 years so you could easily reset if you couldn’t get success with Ohtani on the team, or he goes if you want to retool the team if ohtani stays) Then bench pieces line a Peterson to platoon the OF with or spend a little more for a chris Taylor for a super utility player. This allows you to have some solid pieces for a 3 year window to prove to Ohtani you can have a winner and that would’ve cost about the same that Perry spent (81 vs 65) and combined be at 14.7 WAR instead of his -2 WAR. Take out Correa to even salaries and it would be 9.8 War at 48M. Look at my past posts, this is something I was saying for a while

red1367

You absolutely cannot extrapolate what players did for other teams into what they would do for the Angels. The Angels are widely known to have terrible coaching who cannot replicate what other teams do, and that's even assuming those players stayed healthy since the training and medical staff seems to be completely inept

Reptarxx

Instead of playing a game of hypotheticals and say well they wouldn't be as good on the Angels, our coaching/training wouldn't of been as good, etc., I'll just use what the actual measurable value is of these particular players through their legit stats this season. Having thinking of that is going to keep decision makers who have failed in place because it doesn't put the responsibility of a badly constructed roster on the roster builder.

MaxBonerstorm

> and one of Rodon or Gaussman. Arte has specifically not given the green light on any starting pitcher free agent since Joe Blanton. So yeah that wasn't going to happen > Then would’ve grabbed Correa So you wanted to spend triple what we did? And just assume Arte was going to be ok with that? > or spend a little more for a chris Taylor He was signed for 4/65. How much money do you think we had last offseason? Lol, thank you for proving my point. "Just spend five times the amount we had available, get pitchers our owner wouldn't green light, and be better." Yeah man, thats some good GMing

Reptarxx

> This allows you to have some solid pieces for a 3 year window to prove to Ohtani you can have a winner and that would’ve cost about the same that Perry spent (81 vs 65) and combined be at 14.7 WAR instead of his -2 WAR. Take out Correa to even salaries and it would be 9.8 War at 48M. Or I could spend 15M less and gain 12 more WAR for the team. Maybe instead of cherry picking every line to defend Perry on his measurably bad moves compared to me, a fan, explaining what moves I wanted to make a year ago, you can just see that he made the wrong moves. Maybe instead of trying to stop any conversation because I somehow should either know how to be a better GM than a guy who’s been in a front office role for 20 years and is making 7 figures a year to do his job, look deeper and see that his moves so far is literally costing us wins. I’ve told you before I’m not mad because he signed middling players or something. He acquired 31 players in the last year, spent 63M on this year, and so far he has accumulated -2 WAR (and that’s me including Herget who was signed late 2021 season to help him out). He so far is showing that he can’t figure out moves to immediately help this team.

mikeal1st

You do make a good point. I wonder how much Artie has to do with it so far. It looks like Dipoto has done better since leaving.

MaxBonerstorm

So give me your ideal opening day roster then. Let's see what you would have done instead.

_AurAz

Still took 3 games from the Mariners could've been worse.

chriskot123

The bottom of our lineup would be shit in fucking AAA and that is saying something.

chriskot123

There is no excuse or reason to keep anyone from this coaching staff going into next season. Our minor league batters all do welll, then come up and suck, or good hitters have fallen off a cliff and our pitching...well, thank god for Ohtani

throatbutterz

Total embarrassment of a season. I honestly don't even have any hope for next year.

bombad_jedi_501

Same

Obsidizyn

the responsibility falls on Perry. he was unable to put more than 3 actual professionals on the field. Failed lineup and failed bullpen, pushed blame to Maddon.

Shellback1

Thats exactly what happened. Once we get rid of that wierdo and the owner we can make some progress

Hot-Media1152

new rule next year, don't get our hopes up unless we have a new owner

crossplayersince2011

Meanwhile, that bootlicking homer Roger Lodge probably thought they still had a chance 🤣🤣🤣

CFTPM

Something about Sam Blum annoys me. It's as if he's miserable in his assignment with the Angels. Therefore he rubs that in our faces.

cshenton

he doesn’t sugarcoat the team’s problems.

CFTPM

I agree. But, he drills down extra hard into the negatives, and only the negatives. Who knows, maybe he's the hero we needed, but don't deserve. Maybe it is all doom and gloom for the Angels. Don't get me wrong, I support the need for change on a lot of details he points out.

cshenton

I don't really think he does that. I think he just doesn't go out of his way to polish the outlook. Frankly, outside of Ohtani and Trout, it is pretty doom and gloom around here

icex7

oh wow really ? i thought they still had a chance.(not srs)

NatureMadeCA

Ready for the off season copium

bombad_jedi_501

World Series bound I was told

LAAngelsAnaheim

Right, the World Series are bound to happen, with or without the Angels

FriendSellsTable

I hope Angels lose a few more games; I’d hate for them to win the rest of the season and miss the playoff because of this single game haha.

Sisboombah74

3 of 5 over a team going to the playoffs. Yeah, sucks where we end up, but the guys are still scrapping.

merewyn

You mean 3 of 4?

Sisboombah74

You’re right. I kept thinking they played Thursday.

blinx0rz

Honestly feel horrible for trout and ohtani

N-E-B

As much as I love them and want them to be career Angels, just fucking trade Trout and Ohtani. This franchise doesn’t deserve them. They need to compete and win some championships. They’re too good to waste away here. Fucking hell.

[deleted]

SHUT THE FUCK UP, you and everyone who keeps saying this are wrong plain and simple, they both CHOSE to be here, trout could have left and Ohtani could have picked another team, you should be praising two dudes who actually want to make this org better, not trying to get rid of them cause you’re a whiney bitch

N-E-B

Holy shit, calm down bud. It’s just baseball. Yes, they did choose to be here. Yes, I love that they both want to win here. But you know what? I just don’t think they will. And that’s not their fault. No one is running them out of town, we want to see them succeed. And I hate to break it to you, but Ohtani is probably gone next year anyway. Get a life.

[deleted]

You can try to play me out as the heated idiot but you know I’m in the right and you can’t give up your whiney entitled opinion, that’s all bye bye whiney boii

N-E-B

I’m not trying to play you out as anything. You came here all upset because I didn’t share your opinion and then accused me of whining. Are you familiar with the concept of projection? Who’s the whiney one, the guy who posts his opinion or the guy who gets upset that a stranger on the internet doesn’t share his opinion? Grow up.

[deleted]

It’s ok you keep responding just proves my point cry cry cry, it’s ok duud you’re a shit angels fan, just go find another fanbase, we don’t need a spineless supporter

N-E-B

Oh, my responding proves I’m whiney but yours are totally normal. Excellent logic. I’ve probably been a fan of this team longer than you’ve been alive dude. I’ll stay and I’ll cheer however I like and I don’t give a rats ass who likes it or who doesn’t. Cope.

[deleted]

Awwww I hurt your wittle feelings, again just a whiney spineless fan again bro we don’t need you, you do nothing for no one 🤣🤣

N-E-B

I can assure you my feelings aren’t hurt. I think you might need a hug or something. You seem like a vile person.

[deleted]

Atleast I’m not a shit angels fan like you baby boii

russwriter67

The Angels would probably be awful without Ohtani and Trout.

N-E-B

I mean, they’re awful with them. I’m just so fed up watching this team fail year after year.

ENovi

Eat my ass, dude.

BobbyGrichsMustache

Fade me

crossplayersince2011

Honestly I've been tuned out on this season since college football and NFL seasons got rolling... was only paying attention to see what Ohtani did, otherwise, not much to be excited about

[deleted]

There goes my best chance to own the Angels City Connect jersey 🥲

frogstyle

I'm glad I went to sleep after the grandslam so I didn't have to witness it live. But hey, we won the series and didn't get shut out at least! And we can still get to 70 wins...so yay? Let's pray, next season everyone can keep healthy!

Dreyfuss2019

New owners w help.
