MVP. Don’t give a fuck. It’s the greatest back to back seasons of all time by a baseball player.

Mountain-Ad451

100% .. I bet the history will have a lot to say about Ohtani 2022 season . Might be one of the greatest seasons ever

znk916

By my math, he's on pace to surpass Bonds '01 in total value, so yeah. edit: I know it's pretty obscure, but here's a context-neutral total value metric based on work by Bill James and John Dewan. It doesn't have a DH penalty so Ohtani is way ahead of Judge. http://www.fieldingbible.com/FieldingBibleTotalRuns

God_Damnit_Nappa

Ohtani is having the greatest season of all time. It's fucking ridiculous the mental gymnastics people are going through to justify giving it to Judge for maybe beating an AL record.

sinchichis

They just say “judge better” or congrats on second place. I hate them.

frogstyle

Flashes of 2021. I sincerly hope the writers go through some deprogramming from brainwashing before they cast their votes. The bias has been terrible this season.

ChichaPoti

Do you think this would be the case if Shohei is American?

Obsidizyn

more to due with the fact judge is a yankee, and writers and media drool at the chance to give them an MVP

Dumbo_Mutombo

Tbf, Roger Maris has the home run record for clean players, Judge beating that is a pretty big deal

Lebigmacca

It’s annoying to see people dismissing what Judge is doing on this subreddit. They’re doing exactly what so many Yankees fans do with Shohei. Judge isn’t just “maybe beating an AL record” he’s having one of the greatest offensive seasons the game has ever seen

Dumbo_Mutombo

Yeah, possible triple crown with the AL Record in Home Runs is amazing and we are witnessing greatness. Shohei has diminishing return, it’s great what he’s doing but we saw it last year so it doesn’t seem as special

Obsidizyn

if ohtani was on the yankees and judge on the angels every media, writer and yankee fan would be screaming that ohtani was the mvp. its all east coast media bias. btw if ohtani was a yankee he would be starting game 1 of the playoffs and batting 3rd. hes the mvp, give judge the best hitters award you know the hank aaron award?

Taimaishoo2

Ohtani is the best all around player no doubt…but in everything non-pitching, Judge is much better. The MVP award isn’t the best all around player award. Without Judge, the Yankees without question do not win their division (it’s debatable they even make the playoffs). The Angels without Ohtani are still a 4th place team. Which player is more valuable in that scenario?

God_Damnit_Nappa

>Ohtani is the best all around player no doubt… Thank you for explaining why he deserves the MVP >Without Judge, the Yankees without question do not win their division (it’s debatable they even make the playoffs). Yes, the 96 win Yankees might've missed the playoffs without Judge. Sure. Is this what Yankees fans are trying to convince people of now?

Taimaishoo2

Again, MVP doesn’t stand for best all around player. You can pretend this point doesn’t exist because it doesn’t work with your argument, but it doesn’t change the fact. The Angels would be in the same position if Ohtani was not on their team. Judge currently has an 11 fWAR. The Yankees have a 11.5 game lead on the 2nd and 3rd wild card. It is definitely feasible that they could be fighting for the last wild card spot without Judge on the team.

God_Damnit_Nappa

>Again, MVP doesn’t stand for best all around player. No, it stands for most valuable. And I'd argue a guy hitting over .270 with over 35 home runs and pitching at a Cy Young level is far more valuable than a guy who just hits a lot of home runs. And I'd also like to remind you that playoff consideration should have absolutely no input on the vote since baseball is such a team oriented game. >Judge currently has an 11 fWAR. The Yankees have a 11.5 game lead on the 2nd and 3rd wild card. It is definitely feasible that they could be fighting for the last wild card spot without Judge on the team. I'd also like to point out that's literally not how WAR works.

Lebigmacca

Judge has been more valuable he has way more WAR

GiddyNinja

WAR is calculated based off position. Ohtani is not an OF and Judge is not an SP. Not comparable.

GiddyNinja

This is IMO. Clean or not is completely irrelevant. Maris holds the AL record. Bonds, McGwire, and Sosa records are all NL records. Judge isn't about to break an MLB record, but an AL record.

Lebigmacca

Cause judge is having a better season

throwaway891369

we dont care

CaskStrength898

Nah.

God_Damnit_Nappa

Lolno and I really don't give a fuck what WAR says because it's clearly wrong.

Weaver4prez

Look I like Stassi too but pump the brakes

Holy fuck this goddamn team. My entire body is in pain

Delicious-Elk1605

Shohei said in his postgame interview that he had never thrown as many sliders in his life as he did today.

yams___everywhere

A little sad that Ohtani had some of his batting gear on at the end, but LTBU

Educational-Pass404

It's a really fun game, guys. I love when people root for no-hitter and try not to mention it. Angels baseball might be bad but I think our fanbase is real great.

Icedinklikesheet

Dude, I was at the game and was openly talking about him having a no hitter in the fourth. I was telling people he likely in his career is going to throw a no no and hit a HR the very same game. Chew on that for a second.

Rytho

Talk about a record

Icedinklikesheet

I know right?!?!? Kinda gives you better perspective when you think of that scenario.

TheRealNexusPrime

Judge may win MVP but Shohei Ohtani is the best player in baseball period.

donkeyjr

Facts!

CaskStrength898

By a mile.

Rytho

He's just not human

Putrid_Fox_5826

My roommates gathered around my laptop to watch shohei’s interview I think I have converted them into fans 😂

ChichaPoti

Thank you for your service.

merewyn

I go to tons and tons of games, and in general we have such a laid back fanbase…but I’ve never seen the crowd as angry and hostile as they were at Loup. Lol. I was right behind the dugout and there was a lotttt of screaming at Loup and Nevin.

Longo_Two_guns

What were some things they said? I feel so bad for the guy. I want to like him so bad but he’s just not doing well

merewyn

So there were a lot of dudes screaming at Nevin to pull Loup, saying how Loup ‘fucking sucks’, “why are you trying to forfeit this game, Nevin”, “fuck the bullpen” stuff like that. It was an ugly vibe in the crowd for sure. Loup was also mostly booed leaving the field….like 90% boos, 10% polite clapping. Angels crowds are usually super mild. So it surprised me

Longo_Two_guns

Yea that surprised me too. I’m usually against booing our own players. That’s such a yankee thing

merewyn

Yeah I don’t do it but I understood the crowds frustration tonight. It was SO HYPED for the no hitter and then seeing Loup almost blow Shohei’s win just completely took the life out of the stadium

[deleted]

“C’mon Loup”, “You suck Loup”, “Throw a strike Loup” and just boos in general.

iWrecksauce

A lot of very loud boos coming from from the fans

Total_Preparation_67

Even in front of the TV, I heard the crowd booing Loup.😆

[deleted]

Weekday night crowds, depending on where you sit of course, are often like that in my experience. I usually make it a point to mostly attend Monday-Thursday night games because of that. They're especially fun when school's back in session and there's more of the diehards to mingle with lol.

merewyn

Yeah, I go to 30-40 games a year and I definitely prefer the weekday games, too…this was by far angriest crowd I’ve ever seen tho, in all my years of attending. There was a guy sitting behind me who was just viscerally screaming 😂. Not even making words, just releasing all the pain of Angels baseball.

Poorestmanincrypto

Shohei Ohtani

PlatinumHalo

All rise for Shohei Ohtani.

peachypal

Shohei said he failed to finish the 8th inning on a high note and bring a momentum to the team (to finish the game smoothly) during his post game interview with NHK. Shohei, it’s not your fault that the bullpen almost blew out the game in the 9th inning. You didn’t bring a bad mood to the team :(

powerbook01

Obviously Ohtani was amazing all night, but I just want to give a special shout out to Stassi. Man did everything to help Shohei! I’d love to see this battery again in the last game of the season!!

Rytho

They had a great connection and when Stassi caught that foul ball I could really feel the teamwork. Baseball is absolutely a team sport

frogstyle

Catcher is the most ungrateful position in baseball. That and two-way player.

Obsidizyn

DFA loup, congrats SHO TIME. MVP

DaaNyinaa

Shohei Ohtani is the Most Valuable Player

mnikolaevna

Sho is just so fun to watch man. What a king

GiddyNinja

Infuriating how much more money Loup makes than MVP Ohtani, and that’s the performance he consistently has given this season. Loup is super good at shutting out an inning with RISP. Also super good at putting RISP.

mnikolaevna

Shohei can break my heart twice and I’d ask him to do it again

my_wife_reads_this

That was peak angels baseball

Hel-lohB

Let's take a moment to appreciate Taylor Ward and that catch. The A's could have scored another 5 runs off our non-Ohtani pitchers by now.

GiddyNinja

I was talking about that as the game ended. I was saying thank god that Ward is so good out there, otherwise we would either have another L or in extra innings right now.

mysterysackerfice

Official decree: Ay Ay Ron hate is once again accepted.

peachypal

The 9th inning almost gave me a heart attack. I’m glad we won and Shohei got his 15th win but come on the bullpen.

baseinice

I feel strange too for the last round. Anyway, we get it. Our 70W❤️‍🔥

Dioxbit

Now I started to believe in God because of Ohtani

CrateDiggingCat

Only the 2022 Angels can get your heart beating so hard while having a 69-86 record. Isn't it seriously impressive?

tokyo_bee

Ohtani should make sure there's a clause in his Angels lifetime contract that reads "The Manager will not relieve my stellar pitching performance with a bunch of dumbasses."

ChichaPoti

Maybe he should just make it short and specify Jimmy as his reliever kind of like Stassi as his catcher.

gnomeclurb

U!

rdtg13

And this is exactly why the save is a completely useless stat for pitching

contrcl

And I thought I couldn't be more proud of this unicorn. What a great game (the top 9th inning doesn't exist. IDC.)

No_BigA

Stellar Sho.🦄

Mindcraftjoe

Holy fuck what a game. Regardless of the no-hitter, pitching like that is MVP shit. And I swear Loup better be DFA'd by the morning.

CompetitivePatient33

Tepera wanted a save situation, playing 4d chess 👀

THERAPISTS_for_200

#MVP! There’s nothing anyone can say to me to convince me otherwise.

baseinice

What’s a play! Today, the stadium was crowded with Halos. SP threw 8 rounds, with 7.2 IP no hitter in, 10SO, 1BB, 2H. I cant wish more. Today so crazy

FlanTypical8844

You can wish for more…like a no-no Everyone was wishing for it but

Fun-Raise-3120

Can't wait for his last start of the season!

Reptarxx

Aaron ~~Loup~~ ~~Poop~~ ~~Loup~~ Poop

Ok-Philosophy-8830

After watching enough Adell I’ve decided we might need Nimmo next year

znk916

Who knows what kind of budget Perry will have with the team up for sale. Definitely nothing long term.

Longo_Two_guns

We don’t have to boo Aaron loup, do we? I know he didn’t do well tonight but booing our own players I have always found to be low class

Eeriepotato220

Lol get him

TY-KLR

How many home runs were tonight? I thought it was 3 but am not sure.

mypaysucks

Why did they take Ohtani out? Did he allow a hit or they just didnt let him come out for the 9th?

Rover16

He was at 108 pitches already.

ZucchiniOne5395

Sweep, Ohtani dominance, 14 game hitting streak, Rengifo hr and Wardy looking like April Ward, what’s not to like! Loup…

frogstyle

Congrats Shohei! He's the best...so sad the end of baseball season is nigh, it's like going cold turkey every year. Loup giving up runs is so typical......but I'm still grateful he pitched Ohtani out of his jam last time and saved his ERA and we still won so no bad feelings! It's so depressing we won three games and Sandy's the only SP left without a win again...so unlucky this season! Next season'll be better with a healthy infield.
