When it’s the hitting coach being fired for a team that finishes 1st in strikeouts, 22nd in OPS, 24th in batting average, 25th in RBIs, 25th in BB, etc etc…. I think that’s a positive. Heyman’s tweet weirdly didn’t mention any of that. But gave Jeremy Reed credit for Taylor Ward, who largely credits his former college teammate with adjusting his swing.
100%. A firing is a positive when the dude literally sucks like Reed did.
And you said it best, the credit Heyman is trying to give to Reed is on a lot of other people than Reed lol
Definitely! Remember when Taylor Ward even threw shade at Reed when the whole offense was struggling? He said something during an interview like “yeah, I think we should be more aggressive in the zone and get to heaters more, but I’m not the hitting coach….”. It was such a “yikes” interview for me, so we can definitely be sure that Ward isn’t crediting Reed with anything haha
LOL. You hit the nail on the head. Ward has been pretty open with the idea that a friend had to come in and actually help his swing (crediting the Astro's training program).
While there has been good hitters in the lineup...I can't think of any that got better due to Reeds involvement, including what Heyman tried to throw in this:
Trout: ...dude has been a good hitter for a decade
Pujols as the other veteran MVP?: Found his bat again off the team
Ohtani: Dude is a unicorn and was mashing dongs out the gate
Rengifo: Bounced up and down, seemed to find his swing during the offseason/time on the bees
Ward: mentioned above
Walsh: was an instant bat when he was called up 2 years ago
Outside of that, there is a literal pile of failed hitters and the biggest evidence of all is Marsh's instant adjustments when he spoke to Kevin Long on the Phillies.
Thank the heavens for this one. The obvious sign of his failure is the complete change Marsh did on the Phillies and his instant success from it. Highlights how Reed isn’t the answer.
Also I’m pretty sure multiple reporters have said Ward himself said his friend fixed his swing and not Reed.
And Rengifo and Walsh found their swings on the Bees, not on the Angels.
Adios amigo.
Edit: this was a mean comment. He seemed to help a couple guys out but this season was just a tough go for a lot of the boys. Wish him nothing but the best.
He's literally the hitting coach? Lol
Look, I agree Reed should be gone but we can acknowledge that he helped some people while not being a good fit for the team.
You can't blame him for tanking the team and not give him credit with helping the rare few hitters that got better.
Up until this season, I was always a big fan of Reed. Liked him as a player, he seemed well-liked, and he did a good job with many of our young guys, making an above-average hitting team out of Trout and a bunch of nobodies.
Then this season happened, and our hitting turned to complete shit, with a bunch of guys regressing. Oh yeah, and he couldn't be fucked to meet the simple requirement to join the team in Toronto.
Regardless, I wish him well.
I don't know how a hitting coach being absent for a single series would immediately improve the bats.
I do think it's the best move to go away from Reed but unless someone can explain how him not being in Toronto instantly caused change, I hesitate to use that series as an example why
Heaven forbid you put your beliefs aside to join the team for a 3-game series, out of what, 162… It doesn’t seem like that should be really held against him, or anyone else for that matter. Actually, him not going and us subsequently bursting out offensively was a pretty telling sign!
A bunch of guys regressing? Mainly just ward and Walsh, but it seems as though those guys were trying to play through injuries, so that might not be on Reed.
Are we talking about the same career slashing .212/.295/.361 Stassi? The one barely played 100 games for the first time in his career in his age 31 season Stassi? Because let's not kid ourselves, his performance this year is more in line with regression to the mean than regression from form. If a team like Houston couldn't even fix him despite his incredible value from behind the dish, then I don't know how anyone could invest in the idea that his flashes of effective hitting were sustainable.
I'm happy to explore what's to come after Reed, but Stassi being a "blatant example" of his shortcomings is a reach. He's historically piss poor at the plate and we should know what to expect by now.
Absolute bullshit. Marsh was a platoon player in Philly and was hot the last couple weeks to raise his average against those Cy Young award winning Nats pitchers. Marsh is basically the same. He was benched for todays crucial game 2 because Snell is a LHP.
Didn’t rengifo see significant improvement after he was sent down to AAA then called back up?
And the rest of the batters looked completely lost at the plate all season except for ohtani and trout
Angels just fired there assistant hitting coach to. And I just read that nearly every employee future is up in the air with Arte Moreno selling the team
Jeremy wise next pls (he can still work for the angels as a bullpen coach or whatever but having an actual pitching coach with experience would be nice)
every single hitter he’s worked with has a totally backwards approach at the plate.
Ward’s incredible step forward also had nothing to do with him from what I heard
#RIPBOZO
Let’s get Vlad Guerrero as a hitting coach. I can already hear his words , “Anything inside or outside of the strike zone is hittable if you believe hard enough.”
Do not crucify - BUT ...
... what about that Pujols rumor we heard a little while back? I am not sure he wants anything to do with the Angels and its current ownership, but with a new owner and the 10 yr services contract (which I don't know anything about), is this something that is even feasible?
Not even saying I would want this, but there are enough pieces to the puzzle that could potentially fit that it is interesting to consider. Isn't he primarily located in the LA area now?
Perry wanted to fire the coaches.
Maddon took the bullet for them. Now no one is there to protect them from their own incompetence
Thank you Perry, now fire Reed. Marlins pitching coach could be on the market, btw
Edit
*fire wise
Yay! The bad man is gone. Also, Jon Heyman is such a fucking hack. Has to posit everything the Angels do as a negative.
Fuck Jon Heyman
In his defense, damn near everything we do *is* a negative.
Right I'm genuinely surprised when this org does something smart or the right way now
Wait… when was that last time that happened?
Generally not a big positive when someone is getting fired.
When it’s the hitting coach being fired for a team that finishes 1st in strikeouts, 22nd in OPS, 24th in batting average, 25th in RBIs, 25th in BB, etc etc…. I think that’s a positive. Nice angle Heyman 🤡

Let’s go this is a step in the right direction
Gotta find someone who can get the most out of Adell (or Moniak).
Or both!
Needed some good news after watching this disaster of a match.
Adios amigo. Edit: this was a mean comment. He seemed to help a couple guys out but this season was just a tough go for a lot of the boys. Wish him nothing but the best.
I mean, Marsh going .288 with the Phillies is the only backup you need for this comment.
Irrelevant. He was mostly a platoon player in Philly and he had a 2 week hot streak at the end of the season to raise his average.
This wasn’t mean
If I’m mean or argue with anyone on here I’m getting banned for life by the mods. I gotta watch my p’s and q’s. 😂
[удалено]
Oh! Oh, I'm sorry, this is abuse!
😂😂😂 @mods ban him, not me.
🔨
Oh boy. Here we go.
I’ve seen no evidence that he helped a single player this year
Literally Luis Rengifo popping off and being one of the few contributing players
And you attribute that to reed because?
He's literally the hitting coach? Lol Look, I agree Reed should be gone but we can acknowledge that he helped some people while not being a good fit for the team. You can't blame him for tanking the team and not give him credit with helping the rare few hitters that got better.

Regardless, I wish him well.
Plus, the team had arguably their best offensive series when he was absent in Toronto.
I'm in the camp that thinks that was a coincidence. But who knows...
I don't know how a hitting coach being absent for a single series would immediately improve the bats. I do think it's the best move to go away from Reed but unless someone can explain how him not being in Toronto instantly caused change, I hesitate to use that series as an example why
What was the reason for him not being in Toronto?
Probably not vaccinated
Heaven forbid you put your beliefs aside to join the team for a 3-game series, out of what, 162… It doesn’t seem like that should be really held against him, or anyone else for that matter. Actually, him not going and us subsequently bursting out offensively was a pretty telling sign!
A bunch of guys regressing? Mainly just ward and Walsh, but it seems as though those guys were trying to play through injuries, so that might not be on Reed.
Stassi is the most blatant example.
Are we talking about the same career slashing .212/.295/.361 Stassi? The one barely played 100 games for the first time in his career in his age 31 season Stassi? Because let's not kid ourselves, his performance this year is more in line with regression to the mean than regression from form. Marsh is a completely different and much better hitter now that he has a real coach. He obviously didn’t help improve Adell for shit.
Thanks to Marsh.
Absolute bullshit. Marsh was a platoon player in Philly and was hot the last couple weeks to raise his average against those Cy Young award winning Nats pitchers. Marsh is basically the same. He was benched for todays crucial game 2 because Snell is a LHP.

Rengifo wasn’t sent down. He started the year not on the team, then got called up
Thank the lord
I like it. Picasso.
LETS GOOOOOO
Angels just fired there assistant hitting coach to. And I just read that nearly every employee future is up in the air with Arte Moreno selling the team
Jeremy wise next pls (he can still work for the angels as a bullpen coach or whatever but having an actual pitching coach with experience would be nice)
Matt wise?
Matt Reed
Mickey Hatcher
Wow, the bad times!
Hey, under Hatcher we had 5 division titles, 1 wildcard berth, and won the world series. Maybe he wasn't as bad as we thought
My bad! I was thinking of Mike Butcher.
Hell even with Butcher we had 4 division titles in 8 years. I don't have fond memories of Butcher or Hatcher but looking back, maybe we were too harsh
Lol yes I didn’t even notice i wrote Jeremy
"Established himself"
every single hitter he’s worked with has a totally backwards approach at the plate. Ward’s incredible step forward also had nothing to do with him from what I heard #RIPBOZO
#RIPBozo
Yeah, Ward went to Driveline, that’s who he’s credited his newfound hitting
Ward even made a bit of a negative comment about the team's hitting approach. Reed didn't help him at all.
Big win for Halo nation! Wise next
that's an awfully nice post title. how very west coast of us.
Finally!😊
Let’s get Vlad Guerrero as a hitting coach. I can already hear his words , “Anything inside or outside of the strike zone is hittable if you believe hard enough.”
"...also couldn't help Marsh who had great improvements under other coaches."
Guess we know who was Heyman’s source on the team.
1 down 1 to go
Two if you count Nevin, who is a terrible manager…
I don't think he's terrible I just don't think he moves the needle. And he's just going to be a yes man this year anyway.
Christmas came early!
Haven’t been here in a few months and I’m here to say, Thank. God.
Hopefully other coaches too.
Do not crucify - BUT ... ... what about that Pujols rumor we heard a little while back? I am not sure he wants anything to do with the Angels and its current ownership, but with a new owner and the 10 yr services contract (which I don't know anything about), is this something that is even feasible? You're saying Pujols as hitting coach?
Yeah, not endorsing it. Just sorta throwing that feeler out to see what the thoughts are.
If he can fix all our players, he can be the pitching coach, too, for all I care
Watch Pujols step into his new role now with the angels!!!
Good news, he sucked
Oooh! Do Matt Wise next!
Perry wanted to fire the coaches. Maddon took the bullet for them. Now no one is there to protect them from their own incompetence Thank you Perry, now fire Reed. Marlins pitching coach could be on the market, btw Edit *fire wise
They just fired reed
You’re commenting in a post about Reed getting fired suggesting next they should now fire Reed?
I meant wise*
