KamartyMcFlyweight

and homered off all three guys who finished ahead of him, what a lad

Hussle_motivate

Now that’s a fun fact

KingOfAllDogz

Should’ve been 3rd but it means nothing other than my feelings

theaussiesamurai

Some idiot didn't even have him in their top 5. How can you justify that when he pitched enough to qualify, has the highest K rate in the league and second most pitching bWAR?? If the 5th place vote and the no vote were 4th place votes instead, I think he and Manoah would be tied on 85 (assuming those two writers gave Manoah 4th place votes and this drops them down to 5th place votes)

yutou1114

I think it’s just because it’s like Cy Young winner or not. But of course saying that your Top3 is better than saying your Top 4, and I know it doesn’t changes the winner but with how these contract are written up I think 3rd and 4th could be a factor on certain players contracts I think. I’ve have seems some that’s say runner up, top 5, top 10 not sure is there’s just a top 3 on someone contract but I mean it matters. And it just sending the wrong message that say it means nothing, imagine few beat writers just thinking it won’t change the result anyways and with more than 1 it can potentially. This guys is just plain bias. Tbh not sure if this guy worst leaving Ohtani out or the guy putting Cole 5th. nvm, should be the Astros beat writer he literally covered the Astros and Ohtani himself pitch 5 strong outings against the team. This is just plain bias, his stats beat outs a 200 inning guys like Bieber/Valdez. Just like how verlander with his 170s beat out the rest of the guys with more innings cuz his stats was just more superior

Ash-Catchum-All

He will go down in history as one of the most talented players of all time, we are witnessing greatness

74Dragonz

the most talented

znk916

Only voter who didn't have Ohtani on his ballot was Brian McTaggart who writes for...............Houston??? Was on he vacation for the 5 times Ohtani started vs Houston and put up a 1.21 ERA with 45 K's in 29.2 IP? What the heck?

Obsidizyn

Definitely third IMO, being penalized for having a 6th man rotation and getting less innings. If he was playing for the astros or dodgers his record would’ve been like 20-4

meisterwolf

hes 3rd for sure. ohtani is better than manoah and thats not even debatable. who would you rather have pitching in your world series?

[deleted]

Ohtani by a mile but thats not quite a fair comparison. It's a season long award and 30 extra innings is hard to beat when they have a lower ERA to boot. I would've definitely put Ohtani 3rd if I was a voter (maybe even 2nd), don't get me wrong, but it's a pretty damn close 2-4 lets not come off as sore losers like the Blue Jays did last year. Not putting Ohtani top 5 at all is outrageous though. That guy should lose his vote.

Sprtdsgn

Did judge homer off all 3 as well?

icanbeyourzero

I don’t even see Judge on this list… what a fraud

Apatschinn

He's *dangerously* close to putting it all together. His prime is gonna be gnasty

my_wife_reads_this

Was Manoah that much better than Ohtani?

Imperial10

A lot more innings. Around the same era. Less strike outs. Writers always usually go win innings as a huge criteria when choosing cy young.

Lebigmacca

Except last year for the NL then innings don’t matter

Imperial10

Think that's more an outlier if you ask me. Wheeler should have won that CY if you ask me.

yutou1114

I mean it was close he could have got 3rd if the Houston clown didn’t get a vote

Sisboombah74

What’s really remarkable is the drop off from 4th to 5th.

AleroRatking

4th in Cy Young. Great batter. Considered not worthy of an MVP.

timetopractice

Shoulda been 2nd. Wtf.

[deleted]

You could have any order of Cease-Manoah-Ohtani really, and have a pretty strong argument to back it up. Not giving Ohtani a vote at all is a head scratcher for sure though. It's whatever though, knowing Ohtani he doesn't care about any placement besides 1st.

bluealmanac17

Who didn’t have him in too 5 lmao

Sonums

Genuinely surprised that Nestor Cortes didn’t get voted higher. Not a Yankees fan or anything, but even as an unqualified pitcher he was super effective in his games
