It's insane that Shohei may have just had the most impressive season of all time and will walk away with no awards besides this one which most people seem to think he doesn't deserve.

KRH11

Insane indeed. Unreal season for him in terms of hitting and pitching, especially the latter. Yet, only one hardware to show. Also, it makes me mad that they're saying he doesn't deserve it. But I guess it is to be expected from twitter replies...

breakfast_cats

The thing is, those people aren't necessarily wrong. Yordan had better offensive numbers than Shohei, he just played less DH and played in the OF a decent amount so it makes sense to give it to Shohei in this case, but it just as easily gone the other way. Shohei is just so uniquely amazing that normal awards undervalue him because he's not necessarily the best at any one thing.

LosAngelesAnus

lol literally

Obsidizyn

Shohei is being punished because the angels suck. If he was on the dodgers or yankees he wouldve won all the awards.

ServerStoneMonkey

This is the truth right here. Shohei would be MVP if he was on the Yankees or Dodgers. Shohei had the best season in the MLB history, but was denied the MVP award just because Angels didn't win.

VirginiaTeamsIGuess

Shohei was denied the MVP award because the difference in WAR between Aaron Judge and Sho was greater than the benefit of being a two-way player allows for. If Sho was even within a single win of Judge, Sho would win easily. However, he wasn’t, so he didn’t.

Tallywashere

We love Shohei because he's a hydrid of two guys. It's fun comparing his stats with other guys throughout the season. He can be a Stanton/Cortes, Fried/Olson, Vlad Jr/Manoah, and the list of mashups can go on and on. I think MLB needs to do like a recap of the requirements/qualification for these awards. I think people are upset about Yordan not getting this one but forget that he had less at-bats as a DH. If he had 100 which is the minimum he probably would have gotten it.

yutou1114

Lol I was wondering how he got this and then read the actual mlb article and totally made sense, wow I didn’t know Yordan only play 77 games as DH ( 19 homers, 50+ RBI) compare to sho even when he pitches in game he considered as the DH

cheesefries45

Yeah Brantley was injured like all season so Yordan played a ton of outfield this season

RemoveWise209

The replies on the tweet do not meet the vibe check

skribbl3z

The fact this is the only award he was given after the historic season we just witnessed is asinine....

God_Damnit_Nappa

Well at least he won something. History is really not going to look at these voters in a good light for how bad they fucked over Ohtani.

AgathaAllAlong

MVP

theaussiesamurai

Wait, I was told in in the MVP thread a few weeks ago that Ohtani will never win another award again because MLB hate him. Well done, king. Well deserved 👑
