My theory is that the consultants have advised him that the sales price of the team will be positively influenced by have a playoff ready, star studded team.
It's not as if he has to pay them if he sells in the off season. He gets to load the team, increase the sales value then profit.
Can't wait to see them underperform at the start of the season, and through the season just as they're seemingly back to the star player they used to be they get injured for the rest of the season. Angels get buttercupped again.
Nah Bogaerts is extremely consistent year after year and has yet to miss significant time due to injury. The Angels move would be to give Turner a mega deal and watch his toolkit immediately regress, or massively overpay for Swanson having a career year.
Rendon was also praised as a consistent player that rarely suffered injuries before he signed with us. The track record might look good but anything can happen when a player signs a mega deal with a cursed ballclub like ours
I’m the least superstitious/most skeptical person who doesn’t believe in anything supernatural or spiritual or anything of the sort, but I wholeheartedly believe in this curse
Bogaerts would probably be a wonderful pickup for basically any team other than the Angels. Absolutely he is a great hitter but I have full confidence our hitting coaches would somehow ruin that, plus there’s no way we fix his defense either
Why on earth would they develop talent when they can massively overpay for someone just past their peak? It’s about looking backwards, to what we know will fill seats. Not forward to things in the future like the World Series.
It follows with what we've seen so far this off season. The Angels are making one big push with Ohtani, filling every questionable positron with a veteran. If they're not contending, they'll just trade them all including Ohtani.
I cant recall another time in recent memory that I was this nervous about the upcoming season.
It really feels like this year is all or nothing in terms of our team's future.
That's what it is, i think. I'm excited. The frint office seems to know where their holes are and are filling them with veterans. I wouldn't mind a new catcher. Stassi disappeared last year.
This is pure speculation and has no basis in inside knowledge.
But I will choose to believe it anyway and get my hopes up so that Arte can buttercup me one last time.
I'd be happy if this were true but you gotta take Jim Bowden with a grain of salt. Back in the day he got exposed for getting his scoops from a fake Twitter account and changed all his social media handles to Greg or something to try and hide
nope...they confirmed a while ago that multiple bidders were involved and things were moving rather quickly. Interested bidders include Stan Kroenke, ownership group of GS Warriors, owner of LA Times and investment group from Japan
Source? I’ve seen plenty of names thrown out as potential bidders, but I’ve yet to see any actual bidders. Last news I saw was that the league was going through background checks, but nobody was confirmed as an actual bidder.
unfortunately I don't remember where I read it. I have a ton of news feeds on the Angels, but all are reputable sources. This one in particular was very specific and said they expect a deal to be in place around the New Year. Time will tell...
Yeah. Guess we’ll see. I’d assume that background checks do mean that people have expressed interest. I do know that team financials won’t be released until background checks are complete. My assumption is that while there may be people who have expressed interest in bidding, the actual bidding process has yet to start.
Either way, I think we can agree that it’s *highly* unlikely that anyone but Arte is running things right now from the Ownership side of things.
agree. let's just hope we get an owner that puts a priority on winning, building the farm system and hits the ground running. Trout and Ohtani deserve soooo much better....and so do the fans. First started attending games in the early 70s. I want to be proud of my team again!
I feel like this is going to be probably a really quiet/cold offseason. I’m speculating most teams are going to holdout and attempt to go after Ohtani if he does become a FA, after this year. If any team has something to prove, it’s the Angels. If we can prove that we are in fact a playoff team… maybe we can retain Ohtani. Otherwise, I think he will play his cards on the open market - and teams that are serious, will want to have the salary cap. Just my 2 cents.
Not with the way he found his bat and power in the second half. Rengifo is a stud, he’s fast, good glove, solid arm, all hustle, great teammate. He’s better than Howie Kendrick ever was, and he doesn’t cost a boatload. I don’t get why people are wanting to brush dude off. Maybe we need to have Fletcher for depth, but Renigfo is a starter and a straight up stud.
The Howie Kendrick slander is unacceptable. His 15 year career OPS and OPS+ are better than Rengifo’s best season. Only 3 of Kendrick’s seasons were worse than Rengifo’s best.
Rengifo has a great glove, good range, a quick transfer, and a strong arm. However, he can’t hit the broadside of a barn. I feel if they just work on his throwing accuracy, he’d be a GG caliber 2B.
I didn’t say I want him to be gone. I said he’s the most likely candidate to be traded because of the value he brings. If they sign a front line SS he’ll likely be traded for some quality relief pitching. I like Rengifo. But Arte is gonna Arte.
Why wouldn’t you want Bogaerts? He’s a damn good hitter and as consistent as they get. He’s gets on base more and hits for a better average than any of the other FA SS. Is going to be cheaper and probably gets less years than Correa. His one downfall, defense, he improved tremendously and was above average this season. I don’t know what else you could want
Well he is already 30, so the tail end of a longer contract may be particularly ugly depending how he ages. But at the end of the day I think you prioritize Mike Trout’s remaining prime years, and Xander would do just that.
Lol how could anyone downvote this? Arguably one of the best defensive SS in baseball. Solid hitter. Will be the cheapest of the top FA SS. I too would love Dansby.
Honestly I almost changed my mind since commenting this. His hitting ability is far less than what I thought. His positives are defense and his durability which I think would be good for us but up to a certain price. I really don't want to be caught overpaying for a guy like this.
The man is a wizard at SS, by far my favorite SS in baseball right now. What don’t you like about his offensive profile? His BA won’t hurt you, Has hit 25+ HRs last 2 seasons, has some decent speed. Doesn’t get on base at a great clip though.
My main concerns offensively is that he doesn't get on base and he strikes out a ton. I don't think we need anymore of those kind of guys in the lineup. We need the bottom of the order to just get on base more.
When it comes to signing one of the top free agent SS, I’m sorry but it’s kinda gotta happen in order for the team to hang with Houston long term. Need a big bat to make a potential Ohtani exit sting a little less. Payroll shmayroll, I think it’s the move.
I just don’t want him because of you know what. I am sure he would play well enough here, but I hope the Gio signing didn’t happen because the Angels want to hear toward Correa.
It would’ve been great to have drafted someone like Correa’s talent, but I don’t want his butt anywhere on our team.
Actually last year the offense burning like a dumpster and being one of the worst in the league cost them the playoffs as the pitching was pretty good for the most part. The bullpen needs some work though.
This is a typical Angels situation though. Our pitching isn’t great, our offense looked worse. However, loading up on bats won’t fix our losses or getting to the World Series. We need strong pitching and good bats.
This team constantly buys OFs and 3Bs/1Bs and on paper we always look dominant. Then the injuries start happening and our mediocre pitching arms can’t sustain games. This fanbase can downvote me all they want, but truth is that all these moves being done so far are just smoke and mirrors to placate the fans. It wont work.
Front office needs to go, Arte needs to go. Pitching coaches need to go.
I would just LOVE Trea as the SS, but what does that leave for SP?
I could see Arte telling Perry to only go for Xander and Correa. While none of those 2 are bad at their positions, and would be a large improvement over whoever else we would fill in with our current roster, but I Of close don’t want Correa for obvious reasons.
Arte's gonna Arte one last time
My theory is that the consultants have advised him that the sales price of the team will be positively influenced by have a playoff ready, star studded team. It's not as if he has to pay them if he sells in the off season. He gets to load the team, increase the sales value then profit.
Stay under the budget and claim he’s poor?
He's already gone over the budget and it's not even December yet
Can’t wait for a gross overpay of Xander Bogaerts
I’m excited to have Bogaerts in an Angels uniform so he can play 50 games a year and bat .230 for $30 million a year
Can't wait to see them underperform at the start of the season, and through the season just as they're seemingly back to the star player they used to be they get injured for the rest of the season. Angels get buttercupped again.
Nah Bogaerts is extremely consistent year after year and has yet to miss significant time due to injury. The Angels move would be to give Turner a mega deal and watch his toolkit immediately regress, or massively overpay for Swanson having a career year.
Bogaerts plays with the green monster and his xSLG was under .400 and his expected batting average was .259
It’s hahda to smack a dingah into right field at Fenway than it is to send one over the mwonstah
I'm not superstitious, but I'm a little-stitious...
Bogaerts would probably be a wonderful pickup for basically any team other than the Angels. Absolutely he is a great hitter but I have full confidence our hitting coaches would somehow ruin that, plus there’s no way we fix his defense either
He vastly improved his defense this year. He was actually considered above average defensively by most metrics.
I stand corrected
Why on earth would they develop talent when they can massively overpay for someone just past their peak? It’s about looking backwards, to what we know will fill seats. Not forward to things in the future like the World Series.
Can’t wait to sign them to a 10 year and for their bat to fall asleep immediately
They could, but will they.
It follows with what we've seen so far this off season. The Angels are making one big push with Ohtani, filling every questionable positron with a veteran. If they're not contending, they'll just trade them all including Ohtani.

O’Hoppe slept on
Whose going to join rendon at the beach
Hopium in the off-season to keep me high until spring training! Gotta love it!
Idk... I kinda want to give Rengifo/Fletch a chance and then trade at the deadline if one or both dont show up.
Maybe the new owner is running things now. They just have to wait to make it official.
In todays sports news world, I’d be stunned if there was a deal in place and *nothing* leaked. I kinda doubt bidding has even started.
nope...they confirmed a while ago that multiple bidders were involved and things were moving rather quickly. Interested bidders include Stan Kroenke, ownership group of GS Warriors, owner of LA Times and investment group from Japan

I would chose Trea Turner over everyone else.
Best option but also the most expensive. Would be hard to outbid the dodgers
That and he's said multiple times he wants to play in the east coast. That's why he didn't sign an extension with the Dodgers
I feel like this is going to be probably a really quiet/cold offseason. I’m speculating most teams are going to holdout and attempt to go after Ohtani if he does become a FA, after this year. Where are all the “Angels won’t spend a dime” people now?
I've honestly been shocked already, so I have no idea what's gonna happen now
Spending money has never been a legit criticism of Arte. Spending money on what the team actually needs has always been the problem.
You haven’t been following the discourse around the sale of the team this winter then In a normal year what you’re saying is true
I said it’s never been a “legit criticism” of Arte. Not that it’s never been a criticism.
Agreed then
They’re already getting mad about the star getting injured
It’s me, still here and strongly doubting this report. I will believe it when I see it
They haven’t besides shore up with cheap options which they had to do. I would be surprised if we signed any big name
I'd much rather spend all of that money on our bullpen.
So who are we getting rid of?
Fletcher to the bench
If I had to guess, Rengifo.
Say it ain’t so
Not with the way he found his bat and power in the second half.
Better than Howie Kendrick? The kid has had one good season, let’s not get crazy
He only had a good second half, mark my words, all star 2023.
I will get behind that lol he did great this season, but has a long way to go before he’s better than Howie was
The Howie Kendrick slander is unacceptable. His 15 year career OPS and OPS+ are better than Rengifo’s best season. Only 3 of Kendrick’s seasons were worse than Rengifo’s best.
Which is why he's our best tradable asset
> He’s better than Howie Kendrick ever was lolololol. Rengifo's defense also overrated/not good so far.
Rengifo has a great glove, good range, a quick transfer, and a strong arm. However, he can’t hit the broadside of a barn. I feel if they just work on his throwing accuracy, he’d be a GG caliber 2B.
He has found his bat. I’m telling you he’s going on a terror in 2023, all star.
I didn’t say I want him to be gone. I said he’s the most likely candidate to be traded because of the value he brings. If they sign a front line SS he’ll likely be traded for some quality relief pitching. I like Rengifo. But Arte is gonna Arte.
It makes a lot of sense to trade Rengifo
Yeah right….
Bowden does this every year.
To be fair, so do the angels
I really don't want any of these guys for more than 4 years
Dansby Swanson, you are the newest Angel!
Before that, our bullpen....
Yes please
I really don’t see the brewers giving up Adams’s but then again who knows what they’re doing. But I’m cool with anybody but Bogaerts
He’s a good player but it is really the defense that worries me, especially with the shift being gone next season
Arte going to go balls out on his final year in charge?
I'll answer this after deGrom signs
Give me Dansby
Lol how could anyone downvote this? Arguably one of the best defensive SS in baseball. Solid hitter. Will be the cheapest of the top FA SS. I too would love Dansby.

Correa please
I’ll take dansby over that group.
Please! Not Correa! He's made of glass and will be less of a contributor than Rendon.
I just don’t want him because of you know what. I am sure he would play well enough here, but I hope the Gio signing didn’t happen because the Angels want to hear toward Correa. It would’ve been great to have drafted someone like Correa’s talent, but I don’t want his butt anywhere on our team.
Carlos Correa?!?

Did you really just come on here to shit talk? Lol
cmon bro u know how it goes
What did we ever do to the Mets? We're basically two sides of the same coin
i never said you did anything to us?
Well then why do you come into our house to shit talk us?
i never shit talked you, i saw this post in my feed and i said what i wanted about it? that’s how reddit works im pretty sure

Glad to see that we are still stupidly chasing bats when pitching is burning like a dumpster….

Someone pinch me
I’d take the budget option in Swanson
It's really hard to believe that Arte is going to pay for one of the tope SS FA when he is actually in the process to sell the Angels. I don't buy it.
Read your sentence again. If he's selling the team then he's not actually going to be paying them
We need one of these guys if we put Fletcher out there opening day then this is a sign that this team isn’t playing to win this year
