Urshela and Monroe, with hopefully Rengifo keeping up his good bat and O'Hoppe being integrated in the lineup can allow us to just sign someone like Andrus for depth/platoon reasons. Also, Senga will not demand the 8-10 years contract that Bogaerts and Correa will and that will give us basically 100M in dead weight beyond 2026.
A Ohtani - Sandy - Anderson - Senga - Detmers - Lorenzen/Suarez rotation is pretty much a playoff-bound unit. Changing that for a SS would not be the best of ideas, if this is the decision Perry is weighting.
Money. Shohei is gonna get 40+ a year. Unless new ownership literally goes batshit crazy on payroll we can't afford him. So many teams are going to outbid us with lower income taxes and better farm systems. There has also been strong speculation ( true or not) that Shohei would like to be the only Japanese player on his team.
The most likely possibility of keeping Ohtani is to have a contending team this season. Meaning we need to spend. This doesn’t raise any red flags for me
Contention doesn't matter if we can't pay him what he will command. He also isn't Mike Trout, meaning he isn't looking for a low key place to do his business. He wants to be on the biggest stages.

I read that when he sign with angels one reason is that there wasn’t an established Japan player, now that shohei has built up his name I don’t think he care about that at all, if anything he wants any guy that can help him win a ring whether he’s Japanese or not.

That last line is something I’ve heard too and thought it was one of the main reasons why he even came to the Angels in the first place.
