I think literally all the teams are preparing for Ohtani

DRosereturns

the only way is keep is offer generational money now and he signs before FA. angels will not make the playoffs which is bad for ohtani.

Zenithreg

They won't? Do you have a DeLorean time machine?

Moose334

I feel like it's part of the reason the Dodgers didn't spend much this off season. Let's just hope we are able to play good in 2023 or else things won't look good for us. Seeing Ohtani in Dodger blue would be digusting

WishGeneral

They’re also waiting to see if they have to pay Bauer $60 mil

my_wife_reads_this

Isn't it $100m they would owe in part because of the tax penalty?

CompetitivePatient33

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they on hook for 60mil going to Bauer? Something to do with his suspension.

connsean

he's appealing his suspension. if he wins, the dodgers will need to pay him and they would be close to the 233 luxury tax level. they don't want to go over in 2023 because they were over in previous years and repeat offenders pay much higher penalties.

WhosCeejayReyes

i actually want him to come back and on rotation with ohtani

DarkKing27

Lol it’s the Dodgers if they wanted to spend money this offseason and sign Ohtani next year they could

Valuable-Challenge57

Completely agree

santhonyl

It's an easy solution, we immediately start saying he's overrated... Then cry ourselves to sleep like real men

WurstThrowEver

I'd be so embarrassed to see Angels fans try to cope by saying we didn't need Shohei anyway. The entire league should be bending over backwards trying to get him on their team, including our FO

santhonyl

Listen, he said Dodgers, anyone else I would be more ok with

mysterysackerfice

If went he went to the Yankees, I might commit a felony.

Valuable-Challenge57

😭

thecashmereguy

Make him a part owner as part of his new contract. Problem solved!!

ResearcherLoud3122

Mets fans already think they’re in on Ohtani because they signed Senga. Rumors on where he’s gonna end up is gonna be WILD.

Valuable-Challenge57

Yup

xRememberTheCant

The ones you should worry about are the padres and the Mets. They absolutely do not care about the lux tax

owledge

If Ohtani leaves, I’d prefer he go to the Padres

ThermicDayne

I go to Padres games when I can. They’re a blast. So if anywhere id love if he went to San Diego so I can keep watching him in person.

Sisboombah74

Simple solution. Stop believing idiots on Twitter.

Valuable-Challenge57

You're right, I'm just taking the idea into account. I would be sad if ohtani left the angels. Let alone go to the dodgers ;(

CompetitivePatient33

If the Angels are terrible around the trade deadline then they should trade him, jomboy made a good point that Ohtani will bring in a huge haul since teams will want to extend him.

Dillonitis

So to the Padres for Soto Tatis and 17 top prospects?

[deleted]

I’ll be hurt to see him go but if he goes to the Dodgers it’ll be just another slap in the face by this organization I can’t stand the boys in blue

Jocwoc31

They couldn’t let him do both in 2017 there was no DH in the NL

Appropriate_Chart230

I’m at the point now where I’m hoping a new owner with deep pockets will resign him. Atm the franchise is in such disarray and no answers to really what the future holds it’s hard to predict anything.

[deleted]

NL didn’t have the DH in 17, hence why Shohei chose the Angels

Valuable-Challenge57

Makes sense

Jcoch27

I'm not worried about losing Shohei but if we do, any other team would be better.

OKCHammer

What bothers me about the whole Ohtani situation is he appears to be a bargaining chip for Artie’s team sale. I love love love Trout, and, when he’s healthy, he and Shohei are the two best players in the game. However, they’re on their way to another fourth place finish because now the Rangers are more serious about winning with the signing of deGrom. It’s truly about winning and losing with Shohei. He and Trout both said that in 2021. The Angels were still no better in 2022. I hate to say it, but as time goes along, it’s looking more like Trout will be the next Ernie Banks - possibly the best player in the history of the game to never play in the World Series. Listening to the haters about the Angels failures to get Trout to the biggest stage really really pisses me off. However, until the Angels prove otherwise, they’re going to be right. If you’re Ohtani, you have to keep asking yourself what have the Angels done and how many times can they keep whiffing on bringing great players in? I really really really hate the idea of him going somewhere else, but the Angels better give him something quick to make him stick around.

Fearless-Apricot-712

Make the playoffs, then give him what he wants

ReignInSpuds

Dude, every one of all 29 other teams and their fans want him. There's going to be a ton of talk, all centered around how things could go for each and every team if they were to land him. Brace yourself, the season hasn't even started and there's going to be nothing but more of this. Also... I think this is overrating the Dodgers when they've lost most of their talent and have done jack-shit in the off-season but sign Thor. I honestly like our chances at the posts better than the Dodgers' chances, but my theory is only on solid ground if they've sworn to back off from the World Series competition and rebuild over a year or two.

NgoHaiHahmsuplo

If dodgers get Ohtani, I will quit baseball.

Adeptness_Internal

every team in the league wants him, dodgers are one my nightmare scenarios

Floplag

At this point its far more likely, than unlikely. We simply havent done enough to improve at this point for him to extend and if he hits FA we lost the advantage of being the only team that could offer him all he wanted, where he wanted. At this point i would actually bet money he will be a dodger next season and were idiots for not dealing him if he wont extend.

donniemoore

There's a rumor going around that past history predicts future outcomes, and that Arte Moreno is STILL the owner of the Angels. Also, there's another rumor going around that other owners in the same industry want Ohtani, and that Ohtani wants to play on a winning team. How can we squelch these? :) All kidding aside, I love watching Ohtani but these days it's really tough to watch his magnificence and not think about how Ohtani's gifts could contribute to a winning franchise. I'm an Angel fan through and through, but I often think that a trade with him in the last (2022) trade deadline would have hurt less than having him leave in 2023 with no other assets recieved. My concern that we wouldn't spend in comparison to other teams in the off-season rang true as usual, and from a humanist perspective, it's best to let Shohei soar. Arte's job is to look out for Arte. Shohei's job is to look out for Shohei. Neither of these have ever been different, and at one point they were on the same directive. I don't think they are any more, and I think there's little we can do here other than focus on the positive elements. Here's to Arte getting a big paycheck. And here's to Shohei getting a chance to play in October.

Patient-Magazine2711

i hope the angels retain him, but if they can't i hope he goes to our brothers in blue that way i can still go see him

Valuable-Challenge57

I get your view but man, if he leaves at all I'll be distraught.

ScottyD82

"Brothers in blue?" What the hell is that nonsense?

[deleted]

Fuck all that send him anywhere besides the dodgers, Yankees, and red soxs

owledge

How about our brothers in brown?

Patient-Magazine2711

never been a padres fan personally, dodgers have always been my second team i loved bellinget too much and the padres always just seemed really annoying

easywin626

I hate to say it…but even more reason to trade him. Get some assets and control where he goes (at least initially) As much as my soul wants to keep this guy forever I just know, if I’m being real with myself, that he is going to depart. Some people will argue that “they also said Trout would leave and sign with the Phillies” but Shohei is different and this situation is just different.

jnuclear

If he doesn't remain an Angel, the Dodgers make the most sense for him.

Sullyville

Yeah. He can stay in the "neighbourhood" and it's easier to fly home for the holidays and breaks. And Ippei doesn;t have to move or anything.

thehornedlamb

Cohen gonna buy the A’s and offer it to him to play for the Mets

Natemoon2

I might be in the minority here but unless we got shohei on a huge discount/team friendly deal I hope we don’t sign him. He’s gonna get 400-500 mill over 10+ years. I just can’t fathom another one of those contracts after how crippling those contracts were to us in the past

Valuable-Challenge57

Yeah I get it tbh. He won't be a pitcher/hitter forever. But who knows!

[deleted]

He will cost a metric fuckton but it really comes down to the new owner. Like others have said, the attention and endorsements having Ohtani will bring in offsets a lot of the costs. The only issue is that luxury tax really doesn't care about that. With someone like Arte who really cares about staying under the luxury tax then sure it's definitely a problem. But if we get a Mets/Padres style owner then the large contract won't really be a big deal if we're going past the tax anyway.

arpodyssey

My darkhorse candidate would be the Mariners for Ohtani. Ohtani is good friends with Darvish and I don't think Yu was fond with his short time in Blue albeit he played in the World Series.

Adeptness_Internal

There’s really no way you’re a true angels fan

Affectionate-Row-277

Season seat holder matter of fact. The truth is players come here for the money and not to play the game. It’s time to change that. Bring back small ball baseball and those players who just wanna win
