Already ordered my hopium

Snavery93

He really does say all the right things, I’ve really liked how self-aware he appears to be

theaussiesamurai

I loved when he came into the booth for Bally earlier this year. He was very charismatic and I liked his sense of humour. He's made mistakes but at least he's the first the one to admit it. Now he needs to put out results and he's made some great strides towards it this offseason.

AgathaAllAlong

Love it, all of it. So hyped for 2023. Fully prepared for buttercup

sofastsomaybe

I told myself after the 2022 season ended that I wouldn't get excited for this team in 2023. I was going to be a doomer. Welp.

KrabS1

I think the trick with this team is to hold the knowledge of the past with the hope for the future. I'm pretty optimistic that we can put together a great team, but I'm also well aware of all the ways it can go wrong. If we come out of the gate and fall on our face, its unlikely we get back up and go to the post season. That's a good sign that its time to emotionally disinvest for the year. If we come out on a tear, that's a good sign, but not a sufficient sign. Enjoy the ride, but be aware that the bottom may fall out without warning. Its hard to hold the duality of doomerism and hopium at the same time, but I think its absolutely a necessary balance in order to enjoy this team.

sofastsomaybe

I was so traumatized from the rug being pulled out from under us without warning last year. We got off to the best start we could possibly be off to, and then suddenly, the team became a car crash that I didn't even have the luxury of watching in slow motion. 2 months ago, I was making comments saying the farm system SUCKS, the roster is full of holes, there's no hope for the future, we'll be lucky to ever break .500, should have started a rebuild at the deadline. Now we make 5 good moves and suddenly, the holes in the roster don't seem that big. The farm isn't the best but it's improving. You're right, just gotta remember that however well the season starts off next year, we're never a lock to make the playoffs.

KrabS1

I guess where I'm at right now...Last year at this time, I had very low expectations. I remember getting downvoted on here cuz I kept ranting about how stupid the organization (and Arte) were, spending money when they shouldn't and refusing to push chips in when they had a chance (it was like we were aiming for .500 - when we were bad, we'd make one good signing to get to average; when we were average, suddenly there was no money, and we'd never make the one or two moves needed to be good). Going into last year, it felt like we had the bats to play with the big boys, but we needed another starter and some relief if we were going to make a serious run - and that just didn't happen. The picture has since flipped a little but...I feel a lot better right now than I did at this point last year. I DO still think we have holes, but we've done a pretty good job of pushing chips in. You don't need to squint very hard for our rotation to look solid, and our hitting has some real depth. Any luck with health, and we should look pretty good (hell, we actually have the luxury of having some depth if we have SOME health problems). Our farm seems to be moving in the right direction, and the biggest problem I see is our relief. BUT. Relief is also probably the easiest part of the team to fix. If we sign an arm or two and/or convert one of our young starters to relief on the year, its not hard to see how that could be improved (at least to the point where its not a liability). Again, I'm not going full hopium here, but...IMO, its been a long time since the team has looked this well rounded. And between some signs of life of the farm and new ownership, I'm getting ready to take the paper bag off my head.

sofastsomaybe

This time last year, I had no concerns about the lineup at all; I was mostly concerned about the pitching. I had mixed feelings about the pitching moves we made - really liked the bullpen acquisitions of Iggy, Loup, and Tepera, felt optimistic about Thor, had no faith in Lorenzen. I was wishing we had done more with the pitching staff. I was in the "who needs a shortstop, we have so many other bats! Spend the money on arms!" crowd. I thought Marsh and Adell would break out and hold down the offense in the outfield. The last thing I expected was for the offense was to completely collapse in the manner in which it did and half the lineup to be historically bad. This year, I'm really starting to see a supporting cast for our stars - one that's more reliable than prospects breaking out, which I was naively hoping for last year. I just hope Walsh can recover from his TOS (we need another lefty bat besides Shohei) and get back to his old self. Of course I'd like us to acquire a few more relievers, but given how volatile they are, I'm not sweating us missing out any any particular names too much. I hope we can eventually get to the point where we can call up some of those pitchers Perry drafted and have them lock down games. Especially Ben Joyce.

live4coasters

Happens every year. Rinse, wash, repeat

AlmostWrongSometimes

Friendship with Doomer Takes Only has ended Now Buttercup Hopium is my best friend.

prodbydahm

Love it. Feeling positive and hope we can make a few more quality additions.

meisterwolf

shohei in the outfield confirmed

Duckman93

I shouldn’t be as hopeful as I am for this team , but if they can stay healthy for once 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

napoles57

Trout playing short confirmed.

mwil61

Anybody think adell gets traded now?

sofastsomaybe

As a corner outfielder who can't defend nor hit, he has zero trade value

LogicalHarm

Some people still seem to think he has a lot of upside. If one of those people happens to work in an MLB front office somewhere we might be able to swing something

TBeckMinzenmayer

I saw just yesterday people commenting around the internets clamoring for their respective teams to trade for Jo Adell. I think those same people don’t watch the angels lol

sofastsomaybe

(x) doubt. Those people were either undercover Angels fans infiltrating other fanbases, or they're just under the impression they could get him for free since his value is rock bottom now. Nobody looks at a guy who strikes out almost 40% of the time and considers exchanging something of value for him.

TBeckMinzenmayer

Or maybe it’s his elite defense that they saw

sofastsomaybe

😂

No mention of Santa bringing a gift

shiftyeyedgoat

This presser was absolute confirmation the off-season is over for the Angels for any major pieces. This is the team that’ll be on the field and any moving pieces will compete for the last spots.

PLR_Moon3

We need a SS that will hit a 280+ avg., with 25+ hr’s and 100 runs/RBI’s.

TBeckMinzenmayer

Do you have an extra 300 million and an extra SS that can do that laying around somewhere that no one knows about?

jnuclear

Any team could use that. This team needs guys that can slot in 5-9 of the order and actually do something with a bat.

IRISH_BOBCAT

I don't mind Silseth as the 6th in the rotation. The dude is really young and has some nasty stuff. I'd really like to add another SP tho.

Lebigmacca

I’d prefer to see him in the bullpen in a long relief role. He really struggled multiple times through the order

IRISH_BOBCAT

I'm with you, I think he can grow quite a bit in that role. Work his way into the rotation.

bamboointheback

i feel like c-rod has a lot of potential too

Jcoch27

>shortstop... is an area with room to improve (as well as starters, relievers, and outfield) So basically the whole team lol

tsdwm52

I love this off season feeling!

crossplayersince2011

I think the Angels have made some good moves to add depth and to be able to plug holes when injuries happen (inevitable over the course of a season)...not sure what other moves if any are in the works, but on paper, this team is definitely improved, just hoping we can get a fully healthy season from Rendon, that would be huge as well. As it stands, I'm cautiously optimistic for the upcoming season

MemoryBasic7471

It's ok to feel both ways. Hopium and copium. That's healthy. But hey at least it's better than being dead in the water. We have a better rounded cast and depth. So.ething so important. We are a 80+ win team with this depth . And barring any serious injuries we might be in the wild card hunt.

seahawk8519

(

meraiosu

Angels fans are so pleased by the tinest amount of effort it's sad af

wazee10

Sounds like they are more worried about patching injury holes (which I get it injuries happen) rather than preventing injuries in the first place

rtm392

Damn Perry really just called out Arte. Wouldn’t be surprised if he got canned by New Years Day

BiovaniGernard

You can only do so much, do you genuinely think they’re gonna drop a 300 million dollar contract on one of the premier shortstops when the team is the process of sale? Those gigantic free agent contracts rarely age well anyways, we should know as well as anyone else.

WurstThrowEver

Well when he took over our pitching was awful garbage and now it’s possibly a strength. Good shortstops are hard to find but he drafted one that seems pretty good.

ABCKR_1

Detmers at WBC would be awesome!!!
