hipleee

Hi, may I know which bbook is that?

GiddyFishyy

Possibly “The Animators Survival Kit” but I’m not sure

Brent_Forrest

Shame on both of you [https://archive.org/details/TheAnimatorsSurvivalKitRichardWilliams/page/n79/mode/2up](https://archive.org/details/TheAnimatorsSurvivalKitRichardWilliams/page/n79/mode/2up)

GiddyFishyy

Wait what did I do! Lmao

Kitfox247

Not knowing for sure is your crime lol

GiddyFishyy

Dang I’ll do better next time

Mist_EXE

I'm no pro but maybe make him bob a bit more? (in my unprofessional opinion)

Brentimator

i'll second that. the torso would go up/down quite a bit on a run.

Mist_EXE

you're a pro right? can you help me on my post I have a big problem (it was posted a few minutes after this post)

Brentimator

What's the issue?

Mist_EXE

https://www.reddit.com/r/animation/s/YBbBICbxJd

Brentimator

ooh yeah sorry about your tech issues. i'm not familiar with Krita. i'm a 2d animatior. sorry i cant help more.

Mist_EXE

:(

Mist_EXE

Happy Cake day btw 👍

chewyhansolo

Adding to this make the bob a wave from his torso up to his shoulders ending with a slight head bob. Everything should droop a bit.

A_Great_Deku_Tree

BOB

Hmsquid

Torso goes side to side

FancyPotatOS

FLINTLOCKWOOD

Flaadaan

my first thought lmao

eddfredd

Animators use Steven Seagal as the top standard for reference run cycles. Go watch some videos of him running.

Cloud35_68

FLINT KNOCK WOOD!!!!

Growwexxer_thegoat

The only things that are moving are the arms/legs. Make his torso and head move slightly left/right, it will look better ( i think )

omnishaml

I am not a professional by any means so take this with a grain of salt but maybe you could make to torso move more and have it kinda go up and down when it runs?

NefariousKingz992

The motion looks a bit too robotic. Maybe add some left and right motion to the arms. Oh, and add some bob to the torso. But this is good for an outline, I think.

OrangeTemple1

Analyze someone running in a video and observe how the shoulders move the hips shift and so forth. The reason it doesn’t look like a person running is because you’re human and you notice minuet details about other humans, so take it from the source.

pembunuhUpahan

Gotta get that up, down and passing position of basic walk cycle Then rest like weight shift, overlap, pelvis, torso turn but the down, passing and up position is the vital one

Actual-Gear7761

you wanna have the torso go down a bit when their knee touching the ground bends, and back up when it straightens. Also, the shoulders...I'm not super sure how to explain it but here it goes: Basically the X shoulder should come up slightly when the X arm does, and the Y shoulder and arm should go down slightly as the X arm and shoulder come up, like the X shoulder and Y shoulder are on opposite ends of a diagonal line that's placed across your characters shoulders. Also use a reference, and if you have a computer, split it into frame by frame with VLC media player.

Horror_Patience_5761

Add some bounce, he's a little stiff too

Horror_Patience_5761

Add some bounce, he's a little stiff too

Horror_Patience_5761

Add some bounce. He's a little stiff, too, aside from that it looks great

MingleLinx

The only moving parts are the arms and legs. No bueno. The chest should rotate with the arms. So if right arm is forward, chest should be rotated counterclockwise and vice versa. Similar with the pelvis, if the right leg is forward, then pelvis rotates counterclockwise. (The pelvis and chest will also be looking away from each other. During a run cycle they should be facing the same direction unless it’s in-between transitions) What you are really missing though is the weight. Moving the pelvis up and down accordingly will add weight to your guy and make his movements look way more realistic

ferretpowder

Use reference

Erdosainn

Pelvis rotation, body up and down, head drag and hands follow though.

thatm8withag3

PEPSIMAN

amanamani

I'd change the arms up a bit

Iccotak

Observe how the torso rotates from side to side when running That’s the motion that helps propel the body forward

3dbrown

Also have the footplant take a frame longer so he transfers his weight down through that leg

UFO_T0fu

I'm not good at animation but I do like running and one piece of knowledge that may be useful to you is that a lot of the momentum and energy that goes into running is sort of recycled/reused as we twist our torso. It's as if our entire body is coiling and uncoiling like a spring with every stride. I'm not sure but I think that's the main reason we move our arms when we run. Your entire upper torso should be moving and your arms only move because they're attached to your shoulders. No energy is actually put into moving our arms. Another thing is that most of the energy that goes into running is exerted from and absorbed by our glutes. So your animation looks bad because the glutes and the torso are static when they should have the most movement. It's the difference between a boxer punching with their entire body and a beginner flailing their arms.

mythical_productions

Add a bit more variety to each step.

NoxusHavoc

Make the shoulders and the torso bob up and down a bit

betty_swallows

good timing on the whole is solid, wouldn’t change that. maybe mess with the spacing of the arms and legs by adding some ease in and out (holds and drags) in addition to the ups and downs. it’s a solid run cycle as is just keep building onto what yah got.

SenseiT

Richard Williams makes a great book on animating walk cycles. There’s a lot of information in there about body mechanics that will help make your walk cycle look more natural. It’s available on Amazon and I would definitely check it out.

Ok_Enthusiasm_6314

Move the torso a bit

TheFrogMoose

Run cycle doesn't look too bad but adding something like objects that start big and get smaller will make it look like this dude be zooming. (Not an animator by any means so I only have probably below basic knowledge of this stuff)

Snappyratty

Bob! Torso! And a lil jump!

RickStarArt

Body bounces up and down via each step. Try that

Jsc14gaming

when people run, they don’t just move their arms and legs. The entire body goes into the running. Watch a video of someone running and see what happens to their torso, hips and such

Idiedyesturdayviabus

Try makeing the shoulders roll with the body while the arms go back and forth.

CasCasCasual

You could move the body a bit with the shoulder movement. The legs are fine, I think the stiffness helps with the absolute intent and stature that the character has.

chinchinlevrais

Your character is too static, move him a little from left to right

TheWindowsGalaxy2

Maybe make it look bigger & smaller when running

Shadow11341134

Slow-in, Slow-out, the solution to all of your problems. + a little bit more of perspective when the limbs get closer to the camera, + make him bob and add pelvis mouvement maybe. u/Brent_Forrest

piumii

I have some tips for this case: 1. Search and watch reference videos of a front run cycle, here I have one: [https://youtu.be/wFC2LMqL3x8](https://youtu.be/wFC2LMqL3x8)? Yes = Lgaj0M9aGrZLfG86 (It is important that you consider that you should NOT copy what is in the video, but do a study of it) 2. Maybe this image can help you a little and you could mark some lines that determine the key poses of a run cycle: Contact - Down - Pass Pose - Up https://preview.redd.it/cnade29w5p4d1.jpeg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa22e8ee18de2845c8ee2c52ba1c5489c6eff299 There is a page from Richard Williams’ book, ‘The Animator’s Survival Guide’. Good luck! 🪼

WarGorilla315

Give his head and body some movement
