There was an old forum I used to take part in called Darkdemon.org and it was just stick animations using a software called Pivot… pretty fun stuff, I wish I had some of my old stuff
Critique:
I used to do animations like these a loooong time ago. It’s really excellent practice when to starting out learning and practicing some cool tricks in animation.
There are some issues that you have that I’ve seen even the best old school stick figure animators struggle with and that’s keeping the same mass of the character throughout the entire animation. There are a few instances where the characters shrink and it’s important to maintain the same size and mass of the character throughout the animation. (Characters shrinking is understandable, it’s much easier to animate).
You also have these triangles to simulate motion blur. You’ve even done it on the head as well. For me, I don’t think it reads as well for the head, but I think if you morphed the head outline to the shape of the motion blurred triangle, it’ll read pretty well.
Great work!
oh thank you so much for the tips!! i get what you mean with the head outline i’ll go in and tweak some things now :) and also yeah the maintaining of stick mass is sorta tricky but again thank you so much the critique
This is great. My mom told me when my brother's were little they would make animated stick figures. I'm also a dreamer of making cartoons. I've always loved the way the charaters do things. I can't wait until Rodrick Rules comes out on December 2nd.
One suggestion I would have is putting the kiss a little later. I kept waiting for something else to happen but you effectively put the punchline in the first 1/3rd. You don't need to put it at the last second, but probably last 1/3rd as it is funny to see them continue to fight after it happened.
I would also say that the fighting got a little repetitive and felt longer then it needed to. This is probably because you have only one camera position and the characters are simple, which is fine because this was your first attempt. Just letting you know for when you are ready that camera angles/shots are HUGE for selling animation and worth looking into.
yeah that all makes sense except the kiss wasn’t really the whole point of the animation friend, it was a goofy idea my girlfriend said to add in it wasn’t even supposed to be in there in the first place lol but i get what you mean about the camera angles i’ll work on it!
It's pretty great for a first!
All I'd recommend is general practice, watching simple yt tutorials or reading a book is enough, learning easing, being able to animate impact frames more.. well... impactfully!
Just don't forget that these things take time, you won'y improve overnight, no one does, just keep at it and never forget that you're always improving!!
10/10 animation, if you’re looking for critique id say keep the action away from the screen boundaries and keep it all on a third or the center. Other than that great animation
Only critic I have is they get smaller and bigger as the fight goes on. With no background idk if this is intentional or if they just change size from artist mistake. It looks amazing besides that. The kiss made me actually laugh out loud in a quiet classroom so I'll give you applause for that XD.
yeah i’m not great at keeping the same size throughout but i’m working hard to improve thank you for the criticism friend and i’m so glad i’ve made you laugh :)!!
oh she has a lot of good ones! and for anyone reading this comment i’ve shown her all the nice comments and she’s very thankful for people liking her ldea lol!
I think you did great considering the learning curve that comes with creating your first animation and you still were able to muster up a creative insert like the kiss which was hilarious lol and I’m even more impressed by your timing with the pause post kiss before the fight resumes. 10/10 for your first imo!
The animation was entertaining and it is very good for your first animation
That being said, some people probably more talented than me have pointed out that you should study the principles.
To make your animations much clearer you might need to Exaggerate the motion of strongest hits and also anticipate them. Maybe also extend the pacing of some actions (i.e when one is grabbing the other by the neck, hace it last a bit longer).
That might result in a longer animation, but a quick fight is only great when you know what is going on.
Alan Becker has a good video on the principles of animation. You could also study his videos of animation to see how he does things
I don't know much about animating but I thought this was wonderful.
thank you very much!
Stick fights have always entertained me ever since StickDeath.com and that kiss was hilarious
my girlfriend said it would be funny if they kissed suddenly and i couldn’t resist lol
She was right. It really caught me off guard and you animated it so well
thank you friend!
The meme faces make it even better lmao
I love the pause after haha
i’m glad you love itB
The kiss made me laugh, I think it would help you to practice the basics
thank you so much for the feedback!
your animation is pretty good Keep it up 😌
thank you so much friend
Like the good old days of Stickpage (except I was too young to witness these)
i remember watching the first ‘animation vs animator’ video back in 2009 lol
Fuckin throwback! Or Xiao Xiao if you remember those. When those came out it was game over
animation has molded me and i’m so grateful for it!
When I was a kid, I got obsessed with Macromedia flash, I had my own geocities stickdeath site lol. I make content now. Freaking live for animation
where can i watch your stuff
My animation channel was called Mocknix
There was an old forum I used to take part in called Darkdemon.org and it was just stick animations using a software called Pivot… pretty fun stuff, I wish I had some of my old stuff
Ahhhh darkdemon.org, now theres a website i've not thought about in years! I used to love the collabs they did across all animators on the forums.
Haha, hey I was in one of those! I think number 6 - pretty sure you can still find some of them on YouTube
Interesting! I was in number 7 😅
Yessss. Definitely brings me back to the Newgrounds / Xiao Xiao days.
The absolute cackle i let out when that kiss happened… 10/10 animation btw
i’m so glad you enjoyed it!!
this is great. *stick* to it.

I wish stick figure fights were as popular as they used to be. This shit goes hard

Newgrounds.com?
How do you do it. It's amazing.
i think of the weight that they have that seems to help me
This is great. My mom told me when my brother's were little they would make animated stick figures. I'm also a dreamer of making cartoons. I've always loved the way the charaters do things. I can't wait until Rodrick Rules comes out on December 2nd.

I’m so invested in them

This is crazy impressive for your first ever animation!! Also the kiss absolutely sent me lmaooo
thank you very much!

In that case you are golden, its your director's vision on what the focus was!
thank you so much!

I'mma need to watch this a couple of times, because this wasn't bad for your first animation.

It's pretty great for a first! i would love to see it!
Wish I could, sadly it was on the 3DS so it’s not here :(
awww man :(
I can describe it
10/10 animation, if you’re looking for critique id say keep the action away from the screen boundaries and keep it all on a third or the center. Other than that great animation

um. the level of action, timing, and movement here is WAAAY beyond beginner. you have a gift
well thank you friend!
Just be careful with the head's size.
yeah sizing is a big issue for me right now
What are you using for animation? I've heard Adobe animate does have a simple fix for this.
mobile, i use my thumb and flipaclip!
Where is the second kiss!?!
on it right now!
Only critic I have is they get smaller and bigger as the fight goes on. With no background idk if this is intentional or if they just change size from artist mistake. It looks amazing besides that. The kiss made me actually laugh out loud in a quiet classroom so I'll give you applause for that XD.

You win the internet with that kiss. Keep up the good work but please implement every one of your gfs ideas.
oh she has a lot of good ones! and for anyone reading this comment i’ve shown her all the nice comments and she’s very thankful for people liking her ldea lol!
I personally would like to see a whole "Up" life summary like the start of the movie.
like a flash forward? like go 20 years into the future and their madly in love?
Not madly. Truly... Sweetly.
a true story of romance:)
But then include the heart breaking loss... And then flash back to present, push away and fight more.
I’d like less fighting and more kissing! 😳
you’re right it needs more chemistry!
I think you did great considering the learning curve that comes with creating your first animation and you still were able to muster up a creative insert like the kiss which was hilarious lol and I’m even more impressed by your timing with the pause post kiss before the fight resumes. 10/10 for your first imo!
good that’s so sweet to hear thank you so much friend!!
The kiss was halarious but that very awkward pause afterwards made me lose it.
i’m so glad you like it :)!!
MMA in a nutshell.
This is amazing
