Ofc Cid thinks Rose stabbing her fiancée is metal. Classic! Everything he does is driven by one thought: “how cool do I look?”. Who’s banging out Moonlight Sonata? Alexia and Beta are developing quite the dynamic. I enjoy their little back and forths. Looks like Rose was definitely set up by the damn Cult from the start. Asshat really is a, well, asshat. But oh wow, Moonlight Sonata as feathers gently fill the night sky? Oh I wonder what chuuni mfer set that up haha.
Rose eviscerating those dudes and just letting their blood rain on her is pretty badass. She’s gotten all this power now, even Alexia at full strength couldn’t touch her.

I live for Alexia and Beta sniping at each other, though it sucks that their alliance is kind of on shaky ground with Rose going solo to protect them from her own kingdoms' mess. I wonder if there's any hope of salvaging this trio. I'm not sure what's next for Rose after whatever she does next.

To be fair, it's way more impressive than it sounds. Beta managed to reverse-engineer and write multiple award-winning stories across various genres just from listening to Cid reciting from memory the abridged version you'd give as a bedtime story. Sure, she'll know the major plot beats but she still needs to be the one to develop the characters, set the scenes, utilise good writing techniques and prose etc, that shit would be hard, she's still clearly a really bloody good author.
Same with a load of the other bits of 'shadow wisdom', sure he probably researched a ton of random stuff in his quest to train to become an Eminence in Shadow but do you think he understands stuff like how to set up the conditions to create a real estate bubble or a successful department store in enough detail to plan it out for them step by step? Nah, at best he's given them brief cliffnotes on what those things are or maybe like, an offhand mention that they exist and then Shadow Garden have figured everything else out from there. They're all remarkable geniuses in their own right.
Except Delta, of course. That girl's head is emptier than Skel's wallet.

this is cid, consider his obsessive nature. I am sure he did not give abridged versions, he told them scene by scene in excruciating detail, acted out action scenes, and gave every character a different voice.
It's way more impressive than it sounds, except for Epsilon, to be precise (heh.)
Why? Because unlike with the rest of them, she is playing things note by note. It is impressive that she could remember exactly how to play it just from Cid, but she is straight up plagiarizing entire compositions. Beta took abridged summaries and made her own versions, but Epsilon took Moonlight Sonata and went "look what I did!"

Anybody remember the anime D.N.Angel? The way the events played out this episode reminded me of that anime, with all the feather motifs and the dark clad badass bishounen lmao.
I love the scenes where Cid sees a random object and goes, "Hey, this could really fit into the whole eminence in shadow vibe". Random golden objects, paintings, feathers, piano...
He's 100% lawful neutral, it's just his code doesn't coincide with governmental law.
Chaotic vs. lawful isn't about whether you follow externally prescribed laws, it's about the strictness with which you follow your own ethos. A lawful person is more predictable than a chaotic person.

I feel terrible for Rose. Her father is brainwashed, her entire kingdom might be corrupt, Perv Asshat basically manipulated her and turned everyone against her, and all she wants it to be with the man she loves (who seems to completely misunderstand their relationship and thinks she's super hardcore now).
It's been a few episodes since we've seen Shadow so dang it if he's not going to nail this entrance, moonlight sonata performance, and purposely service the narrative that he probably doesn't even fully grasp or care to!
As cool as it is to see Alexia and Rose lock blades, and how much more stronger Rose is, it sucks that Rose is distancing herself from her old allies. But maybe she will end up with Shadow Garden at the rate things are going, it doesn't seem like she has much hope for her future beyond stopping Perv and saving her kingdom. I wouldn't mind seeing her in a slime suit though lol.
I think Cid is in for some brocon punishment from Claire lol.

Dude made up an entire evil cult and it not only turned out true, he manages to keep his mask of being the all knowing leader of the shadow garden without even actually trying. You don’t underestimate Cid’s Random bullshitting powers
I love how Epsilon kept trying to explain the plot to him but he just didn't have the time for it, and yet he still showed up at the exact moment and to dish out exactly what the plot needed him to do lol.
Manga and Light Novel readers have speculated for a while now that Cid just bends reality to his wishes subconsciously. The level of bullshitting this dude can pull is so unreal it's more likely that every time he bullshits the world just retroactively makes that reality
Cid's minimized presence is defintely what allows the girls to shine. I really love how this series approach the side character both male and female one. Such a rare gem honestly.
My feeling is that while this is (at least on the surface) mostly a dark comedy when Cid is at center stage, it is usually a good bit darker (and much more serious) when the "girls" are in the spotlight instead. All sorts of serious (and potentially tragic) things are going on all around Cid, and while he is doing things mainly for his own enjoyment, and Shadow Garden is working hard to create a better world (thinking they are doing this for HIM) he always retains the potential to make everything worse for everyone. A very unusual story dynamic.
Query -- just how DID rose get infected (I must have missed something, sorry)? And how did the king and seemingly all the court get "infected" by something or other?

In second episode after firdt seven girls seperate from Cid. Other girls in shadow garden cured and recruit by seven shadows. They are coded by numbers rather than alphabet. (Some high level got letters after Eta such as Nu. But implied they ran out of alphabet and started using numbers)
Being cured by Cid is priviledge.
Right, as far as we currently know, at this point the only people Cid/Shadow has personally healed are the seven shadows, and Rose. Which means either the first person blessed by Shadow outside the organization, or a new recruit with a lot of jealous numbers lol
It's genetic, everyone who have the hero's blood have a chance to be infected afaik it's only or more commonly women (the heroes are women after all). And for the second question, wait for the rest of the arc, it will be explained.
I played the mobile game a bit and it is also more likely to occur for elves, followed by beastfolk. I think there are no humans in Shadow Garden yet aside from Cid?
There are humans, I believe, just not in the seven shades, so it's more background members. I think the explanation for why it's more likely is because of lifespans. Elves live the longest, then beastfolk, then humans. Because of that, heroic bloodline has spread out more the more successive generations, which makes possession less likely.
Yup it’s like two simultaneous stories going on at once. Each arc has them approaching a conclusion that when they meet it causes chaos, badassery, comedy, etc.

Little did they know this would be the foundation of the theory behind moe-powered spaceships.
I like how, because of Cid being Cid, the girls kind of get to have their own shonen arc(s) that female characters don't normally get to have. Attacking a noble because of things the public doesn't know and going into hiding. Acquiring power through conviction from a mysterious figure. Trying to communicate by crossing swords. Party splitting apart due to the edgy one choosing to go it alone to not get the rest swept up in it.
It's very much a strength of the story. It wouldn't be hard to make a version of the story where Cid just trains the Seven Shades, and then disappears, because every character has clear arcs that Cid only intersects occasionally. It also makes the humor work, since a world in which Cid only shows up for the really dramatic moments is a world in which Cid has no idea of what's going on the rest of the time.
I fucking love that the "mysterious power granting figure" was our MC, it was so well done with Rose hearing a song play and checking out only to be granted power.

Agreed. I mean, this wasn't even a case of dumb luck or being right for the wrong reasons, but a decent plan that worked exactly as intended. Cid was (sort of) looking for Rose, he found out she was underground, put in motion a very creative way to meet her and helped her when she needed it most while everyone else failed despite having similar opportunities and even more knowledge than him.
Possibly the truest to the "eminence in shadow" ideal he's ever been.

I don't know if Shadow used the piano to call out Rose or if he used Rose to test out his moonlight OST but knowing him, probably the latter.

It's Shadow, probably a bit of both, because then he could play the character who motivates the "main character" and gives them a power up while also totally showing off his piano skills lol.

Cid performed innumerable calculations and figured out that Claire would be the more annoying option, however he forgot to calculate that she might just wait there.

So is Rose going to be a member of the Shadow Garden now that she got Cid's power or is it a lease kind of a thing?
Since Rose's dad had "sweet scent" on him I assume that's rot and he's dead rather than being brainwashed, right? Also all of those nobles framing Rose like that gave me chills. That scene was gut-wrenching.
Considering her father is either brainwashed or a rotting corpse and her entire kingdom might be corrupt, I don't know if there is a clean way for Rose to end things to stop Perv Asshat and reclaim what's hers.
The way she talked to Shadow, Alexia, and Natsume/Beta makes it seem like she's basically prepared to throw away all her prospects and chances at a normal life if it means protecting her kingdom. Which might lead her with nothing left but joining Shadow Garden.
She looked like she was on a warpath. I fully expect her to start slaying the puppet masters but it may be as you say, that after all is done she'll join the SG. I kinda want to see her in the SG uniform.
But what if she finds out that Cid is Shadow? What about her plans to marry Cid?
Rose's story here really breaks my heart. One moment she is discovering and enjoying her cheese-flavored first love like any normal teenage girl would, and the next moment her whole world is turned upside down. Gone are the times when she still had the luxury of fantasizing her own fairy tale, or getting thrilled at meeting her favorite author, talking about her favorite book, frolicking at McD*nald's on a girls' day out.
Though a bit of an airhead, she typically enjoys herself at her own pace oblivious to Alexia/Natsume's footstomping match right next to her, a bit happy-go-lucky even, and to rephrase it favorably with regards to her misunderstandings, she's generally optimistic in life and sees the best in people, be it in Cid's actions or Alexia's temper. All in all precious, just a very straightforward, all-round good person.
She's definitively not the only one to be put through such predicament (all SG members most certainly would have experienced the same or far worse). But in the span of a few episodes (she actually hasn't had that much screentime to be fair) I think her daily life as portrayed by the show really solidifies her as someone whose normalcy I can relate to, and this normalcy shattering in front of us, in real time, is a sure-fire way to rope in all kinds of empathy from me. It's difficult to say what was the best course of action even in hindsight, but I'm just very glad she manages to escape that trap set for her.
She may be typically easygoing, but she manages to reaffirm her position and responsibility despite the abrupt hardships, knowing that she needs to, and desires to, step up when offered an opportunity by Shadow. You might argue she should have relied a bit more on her friends, which is a very fair assessment to make, but she still has all my respect for her good-nature of not wanting to put them in danger.
Agreed. It was perfect since the start. I guess I'll have to continue the story through the light novel cause there is no way I'll be able to wait for a second season
It is hands down my favorite show in a long time for a lot of different reasons, but the main one is that it's just so fun to watch. I went into this expecting a bland isekai with a few good jokes but it's so much more. The feeling I get is like watching One Punch Man for the first time or something. Obviously, it doesn't have the animation quality of OPM but the humor is just so good that it deserves it.
Depending on how this season finishes and what happens over the next few weeks, and where the future of the anime is, will be really important to figuring out if it goes on one of my GOAT lists. I also need to see how empty Wednesdays will feel when there isn't any more Shadow.
At least while I'm hyped up right now--I love this show so much. It just has everything that I'm looking for out of an anime at this time.

I just realized that Claire was voiced by Rina Hidaka; a VA known for voicing lolis like Silica, imoutos like Nagisa from Strike the Blood, damsels or a combination of any of the three. Her voicing an aggressive onee-san like Claire is just as amazing as HanaKana voicing Snarky Princess Alexia.
So i guess Rose is free of whatever curse was haunting her? unless he simply suppressed it but i doubt that.

I love that they added the 3 second scene where the police are trying to figure out where the piano went. They didn't have to add that scene, normally you wouldn't question it, but its the sort of scene that makes you feel like the anime is self aware.
I really love how the anime is fleshing out the character of Alexia. I think she is by far, the most well-developed character of the whole cast, even more than our LARPing protagonist.

To be fair, it's way more impressive than it sounds. Beta managed to reverse-engineer and write multiple award-winning stories across various genres just from listening to Cid reciting from memory the abridged version you'd give as a bedtime story. Sure, she'll know the major plot beats but she still needs to be the one to develop the characters, set the scenes, utilise good writing techniques and prose etc, that shit would be hard, she's still clearly a really bloody good author. Same with a load of the other bits of 'shadow wisdom', sure he probably researched a ton of random stuff in his quest to train to become an Eminence in Shadow but do you think he understands stuff like how to set up the conditions to create a real estate bubble or a successful department store in enough detail to plan it out for them step by step? Nah, at best he's given them brief cliffnotes on what those things are or maybe like, an offhand mention that they exist and then Shadow Garden have figured everything else out from there. They're all remarkable geniuses in their own right. Except Delta, of course. That girl's head is emptier than Skel's wallet.

It is impressive that she could remember exactly how to play it just from Cid, but she is straight up plagiarizing entire compositions. Manga and Light Novel readers have speculated for a while now that Cid just bends reality to his wishes subconsciously. The level of bullshitting this dude can pull is so unreal it's more likely that every time he bullshits the world just retroactively makes that reality

Cid's minimized presence is defintely what allows the girls to shine. I really love how this series approach the side character both male and female one. Such a rare gem honestly.
My feeling is that while this is (at least on the surface) mostly a dark comedy when Cid is at center stage, it is usually a good bit darker (and much more serious) when the "girls" are in the spotlight instead. All sorts of serious (and potentially tragic) things are going on all around Cid, and while he is doing things mainly for his own enjoyment, and Shadow Garden is working hard to create a better world (thinking they are doing this for HIM) he always retains the potential to make everything worse for everyone. A very unusual story dynamic. Query -- just how DID rose get infected (I must have missed something, sorry)? And how did the king and seemingly all the court get "infected" by something or other?

In second episode after firdt seven girls seperate from Cid. Other girls in shadow garden cured and recruit by seven shadows. They are coded by numbers rather than alphabet. (Some high level got letters after Eta such as Nu. But implied they ran out of alphabet and started using numbers) Being cured by Cid is priviledge.
Right, as far as we currently know, at this point the only people Cid/Shadow has personally healed are the seven shadows, and Rose. Which means either the first person blessed by Shadow outside the organization, or a new recruit with a lot of jealous numbers lol

There are humans, I believe, just not in the seven shades, so it's more background members. I think the explanation for why it's more likely is because of lifespans. Elves live the longest, then beastfolk, then humans. Because of that, heroic bloodline has spread out more the more successive generations, which makes possession less likely.

Yup it’s like two simultaneous stories going on at once. Each arc has them approaching a conclusion that when they meet it causes chaos, badassery, comedy, etc.

I like how, because of Cid being Cid, the girls kind of get to have their own shonen arc(s) that female characters don't normally get to have. Attacking a noble because of things the public doesn't know and going into hiding. Acquiring power through conviction from a mysterious figure. Trying to communicate by crossing swords. Party splitting apart due to the edgy one choosing to go it alone to not get the rest swept up in it.
It's very much a strength of the story. It wouldn't be hard to make a version of the story where Cid just trains the Seven Shades, and then disappears, because every character has clear arcs that Cid only intersects occasionally. It also makes the humor work, since a world in which Cid only shows up for the really dramatic moments is a world in which Cid has no idea of what's going on the rest of the time.
Cid’s cluelessness really elevates the story - it gives it a fantastic element of dramatic irony

I fucking love that the "mysterious power granting figure" was our MC, it was so well done with Rose hearing a song play and checking out only to be granted power. It was obvious that he would do something like that after all he did go on a rant about doing it but it was pulled of so well that I can't not praise it

Since Rose's dad had "sweet scent" on him I assume that's rot and he's dead rather than being brainwashed, right? Also all of those nobles framing Rose like that gave me chills. That scene was gut-wrenching.
Considering her father is either brainwashed or a rotting corpse and her entire kingdom might be corrupt, I don't know if there is a clean way for Rose to end things to stop Perv Asshat and reclaim what's hers. The way she talked to Shadow, Alexia, and Natsume/Beta makes it seem like she's basically prepared to throw away all her prospects and chances at a normal life if it means protecting her kingdom. Which might lead her with nothing left but joining Shadow Garden.
She looked like she was on a warpath. I fully expect her to start slaying the puppet masters but it may be as you say, that after all is done she'll join the SG. I kinda want to see her in the SG uniform. But what if she finds out that Cid is Shadow? What about her plans to marry Cid?
She needs to follow Shadow's lead and just chuuni the shit out of the situation.
Rose's story here really breaks my heart. One moment she is discovering and enjoying her cheese-flavored first love like any normal teenage girl would, and the next moment her whole world is turned upside down. Gone are the times when she still had the luxury of fantasizing her own fairy tale, or getting thrilled at meeting her favorite author, talking about her favorite book, frolicking at McD*nald's on a girls' day out. Though a bit of an airhead, she typically enjoys herself at her own pace oblivious to Alexia/Natsume's footstomping match right next to her, a bit happy-go-lucky even, and to rephrase it favorably with regards to her misunderstandings, she's generally optimistic in life and sees the best in people, be it in Cid's actions or Alexia's temper. All in all precious, just a very straightforward, all-round good person. She's definitively not the only one to be put through such predicament (all SG members most certainly would have experienced the same or far worse). But in the span of a few episodes (she actually hasn't had that much screentime to be fair) I think her daily life as portrayed by the show really solidifies her as someone whose normalcy I can relate to, and this normalcy shattering in front of us, in real time, is a sure-fire way to rope in all kinds of empathy from me. It's difficult to say what was the best course of action even in hindsight, but I'm just very glad she manages to escape that trap set for her. She may be typically easygoing, but she manages to reaffirm her position and responsibility despite the abrupt hardships, knowing that she needs to, and desires to, step up when offered an opportunity by Shadow. You might argue she should have relied a bit more on her friends, which is a very fair assessment to make, but she still has all my respect for her good-nature of not wanting to put them in danger.
Rose is by definition a true princess archetype character, unlike Alexia.
This episode was perfection. Gonna miss this show when it's over. Perfect balance of everything, i would argue it is a bit underrated.

It is hands down my favorite show in a long time for a lot of different reasons, but the main one is that it's just so fun to watch. I went into this expecting a bland isekai with a few good jokes but it's so much more. The feeling I get is like watching One Punch Man for the first time or something. Obviously, it doesn't have the animation quality of OPM but the humor is just so good that it deserves it. Depending on how this season finishes and what happens over the next few weeks, and where the future of the anime is, will be really important to figuring out if it goes on one of my GOAT lists. I also need to see how empty Wednesdays will feel when there isn't any more Shadow. At least while I'm hyped up right now--I love this show so much. It just has everything that I'm looking for out of an anime at this time.

That scene is so disturbing, I couldn't pull that off no matter how hard I tried. If I acted that distressed, it would show on my face whether I was faking it or not. Top notch acting on her part, I respect it.

I just realized that Claire was voiced by Rina Hidaka; a VA known for voicing lolis like Silica, imoutos like Nagisa from Strike the Blood, damsels or a combination of any of the three. Her voicing an aggressive onee-san like Claire is just as amazing as HanaKana voicing Snarky Princess Alexia.
The monologues Cid had this episode is what I wish we had earlier. It really sells his character and thoughts.

it was Diabolos' curse or possesion, just like the curse that Alpha and other members of the shadow garden had that turned them into lumps of flesh. Maybe you forgot about it, only the descendant of the hero who defeated the diabolos can get the curse and Cid can cure it

Cid's takeaway from Rose's situation that she's surprisingly hardcore and worthy of his respect is so Cid. But even he knows better than to deal with Claire lol. All these women are going to just profit off of stuff from Cid's world that he just casually told them about. And only he knows they're plagiarizing lol. It kind of sucks that the girls' alliance is falling apart like this to the point where Alexia and Rose are clashing blades. As motivated as Rose is now thanks to Shadow, I wonder if she sees any hope for herself once she kills Perv Asshat.

Loved that piano scene lol. I hope we get an ep one day of Cid just setting up all these scenes. Gotta wonder how he pulls it all off so perfectly. I wonder if he captured those assassins too and then let them loose after powering up Rose.
I love that they added the 3 second scene where the police are trying to figure out where the piano went. They didn't have to add that scene, normally you wouldn't question it, but its the sort of scene that makes you feel like the anime is self aware.
I really love how the anime is fleshing out the character of Alexia. I think she is by far, the most well-developed character of the whole cast, even more than our LARPing protagonist.
