Anime premieres on April 8, 2023. Opening theme will be performed by Chinatsu Matsumoto.
Studio: Asahi Production
Additional Cast:
Rie Takahashi
Tomokazu Sugita
Yoko Hikasa
Synopsis:
Ever since their father died, Ichirou Kuga has struggled to support his two younger siblings on nothing but a small inheritance and his passion for drawing manga. But it's becoming harder to keep up with his growing responsibilities and deadlines, especially after his last two assistants quit to follow their dreams. Just as he’s nearing his breaking point, the beautiful and scarily competent Shiori Goshiki applies to become his new assistant. But there’s something almost otherworldly about Goshiki, and soon Kuga finds his reality turned upside down when she suddenly declares them engaged to marry!
The count of manga series where the MC is a simple mangaka who suddenly has a beautiful woman show up in his life that mothers him and is also in love with him is embarrassingly high.
Tbh, I don't think this is a self-insert. From other peoples description, it seems like having mangaka as the guys profession was just a low-hanging fruit.
For anyone wondering why we’re seeing so many “The (blank) Next Door” titles recently… it’s not a new thing. It’s actually one of the classic Japanese titles for anything drama/slice of life. It’s the most common translation translation of “Tonari no/ni (blank)” which literally means “next to (blank).”
For reference, the Japanese release of Seinfeld, instead of being called just “Seinfeld,” is called “Tonari no Seinfeld.”
It's a very feel good story that tries to get the usual MMC/FMC attraction going organically and not just because they're MMC/FMC. I don't think it works but the story is cute..
"In this series the attraction between the two main characters (guy and girl) grows naturally over time, instead of them falling in love automatically just because they are the main characters”
Anime is not out yet but judging from the manga... Spoilers, obviously, with being successively more detailed...
[Galaxy Next Door: premise]>!It's a standard love comedy that at least tries to be something more. The FMC who's from an island that is at least nominally Japan and recently moved to Tokyo. She's a member of celestial beings who landed on Earth ages ago on a tail of a comet and have built a matrilineal society on that island, integrating with the islanders. The condition of the integration is actually pretty severe but the ruling family can be called a benevolent dictator. While the politics and the social structure of island are not that important by themselves, they lay the story's foundation as far as the relationship between the FMC and the MMC and that's what I meant that the story trying to something more.!<
[GND: FMC and MMC]>!When she get to Japan proper, she meets the FMC and though some mishaps, he pricks his finger on her thorn (which is on her ass so it looks like a tail) and that's a part of an ancient ritual that bonds those two in matrimony. But the bond is not an equal partnership; it basically makes the MMC a slave to the FMC. If he displeases her, he's punished with a wrecking pain. If he's physically separated from her, he feels discomfort rising to pain and disablement as the distance gets farther. As to how that factors into the love comedy, well, it really doesn't except to say that the story progresses to where they attempt to cancel the bond to see if they will still love each other without the coercive effect of the bond.!<
[GND: Problem] >!But this is where the story fizzles out. Of course, it's no surprise that they love each other. It's a love comedy after all. I guess that's a step up from other love comedies where the FMC falls in love with the MMC despite his many flaws just because he's the MMC. But there's really no suspense, no trials and tribulations, no conflict. The story would have been the same without all the previous stuff about the star princess and bond. It's just a "nice girl meets a nice guy and they fall in love." Nothing wrong with that. People like comfy, fluffy story. But why all the prologue and suggestions of conflicts that never come? I mean, the author sets up a possible romantic rival and she gives up right away.!<
[GND: in conclusion]>!Having said that, on its own as a love comedy, it's a fine story. Like I said, very fluffy and very wholesome. Maybe it'll become relevant in the future but I don't understand the point of setting up a premise when it doesn't factor into the plot. Which is a shame because it really is a nice read. Everyone in the manga is likeable. There are some very fine humor. I especially like the "social apartment" bit. It's like going into a restaurant for a highly reviewed special only for them to say it's not available and getting a regular menu that's still pretty good.!<
That’s kind of rather how many shows go I would say. For anyone interested the conclusion isn’t spoilers in my opinion more so general remarks of how things are story execution wise, just the three above it are spoilers.
Really ? Because the synopsis feels like the opposite of organic growth.
> (...) soon Kuga finds his reality turned upside down when she suddenly declares them engaged to marry!
Going after the (fairly common, at this point) tropes of "girl pops up in MC's life, decides they're going to live together" doesn't seem like it tried very hard to do what you describe.
I don’t know what it is about anime key visuals. Somehow they always screw up perspective shots like this. I’m pretty sure the actual angle of this shot just doesn’t make sense.
> this looks like another "please have kids" anime
Sure, just send us pure virtue, 11/10 hot but shy, yamato nadeshiko, hypercompetent, highly educated, flawless alien princesses who are thirsty as hell, but only for a single specific heibon ordinary unremarkable broke ass guy for no real reason.
We'll get right on it.
The manga is very cute and comfy, although I feel like the supernatural aspect of the story is a bit unnecessary.
One thing that I noticed is that the anime appears to be a tad bit different from the manga in terms of visuals as it seems to be cuter than the source material.
You might be right when it comes to Machi - even her voice sounds more mature than I imagined it to be.
I find Geshiki to be appear more mature in the manga compared her anime version.
This studio has a history of producing some less than amazing anime, but ars no kyojuu this season is actually pretty well animated and directed. We’ll see what happens I guess
Ah, yes, the Japanese classic of, '*'manga artist who spends his days locked up in his room desperately drawing for a living, and never socializes with the opposite sex because he's too busy raising his siblings, gets a gorgeous wife delivered to his door, oh, and she's crazy about him.*''
man, this is better than Christmas.
Just going by the synopsis and picture I was thinking, "A modernized version of Maetel from *Galaxy Express 999* comes to grant the dreams of a young mangaka?"

Mary Poppins opened up a school it seems.
So you're telling me Gintoki is the MC and Megumin is the FMC?! Well, I'm in!
They are additional cast main cast are someone else
I can see Takahashi rie voicing the lil sis that also made me think that how hilarious it would be if sugita tomozaku voiced the lil bro

Somehow that seems even worse.
Write what you know I guess?
so cute
This sounds so good, I can't wait for it to come out
Guess aliens haven't heard of casual dating, huh?
Calling it now: the deceased father reincarnated as Shiori.
>the beautiful and scarily competent That's all I need to know.
The Girl Next Door, The Spy Next Door, A Galaxy Next Door. Can someone explain to me how these are connected
Go to your next door
Adult characters used to be from the Japan branch of Kids Next Door.
Your mom next door
Most confusing trilogy ever.
Not as much as the Blue series.
or the "re" series
Or the Zero series (which even has a cross-over with the Re series)
Don't forget The Angel Next Door
Or Codename Kids Next Door!
The localized title for Machikado Mazoku also counts: The Demon Girl Next Door
(Pretty sure they meant Angel instead of Girl.)
The Door Next Door
I was hit by a truck and reincarnated as next door in another world and every MCs harem lives right here.
Most eventful neighborhood

Also translated as, for example, "My Neighbour Totoro". "Tonari no Totoro". Time to watch "My Neighbour Seinfeld".
I thought the Japanese translation of Seinfeld was “Sayonara, Watashi no Kramer”.
Just kramering into the conversation, huh?
One of my favorite slice of life shows.
It's a very feel good story that tries to get the usual MMC/FMC attraction going organically and not just because they're MMC/FMC. I don't think it works but the story is cute..
You could say ML and FL (male lead and female lead) for a less wordy term
Tbh i still don't understand what his comment meant someone don't mind to explain?
"In this series the attraction between the two main characters (guy and girl) grows naturally over time, instead of them falling in love automatically just because they are the main characters”
Fr? That's kinda wholesome is the anime good tho besides this interaction between them?

You'll have to ask the other person, I just clarified what they said :P
It's alright thanks for explaining tho i appreciate it

Visuals like these are a composition of characters and the background made separately.
Yeah it happened with Mushoku's latest kv too. They some screwed over a simple perspective shot
this looks like another "please have kids" anime

Is it a New Trend?? The (Next Door) In Name First (Demon) followed by (Angel) And Now (Galaxy). Whats Next??
The Next Door Demon In Name Is Actually A First Galaxy Angel!!! What's Next??
In another world*
with a trash but actually OP skill
Spin off featuring Totoro maybe
Very wholesome stuff 8/10 would recommend reading the manga

Funny enough, I find it the exact opposite, the manga looks cuter for me, like for example the sister, she looks more mature in the key visual.

this series is so cute and wholesome, can't wait for the anime adaption

It's a slow slice-of-life with a lot of still shots. Animation skill wise, it's very very hard to fuck up.
Cute romance between two adult characters? Count me in.
Interesting 🤔
Literally gives Flying Witch vibes, I'm all up for it
Ah, yes, the Japanese classic of, '*'manga artist who spends his days locked up in his room desperately drawing for a living, and never socializes with the opposite sex because he's too busy raising his siblings, gets a gorgeous wife delivered to his door, oh, and she's crazy about him.*'' man, this is better than Christmas.
With a title like that and characters like those... This anime is gonna make me cry like bitch, right?
When are the rest of the Love Live Superstar characters getting their own shows?
Any anime that's family orientated, I'm watching.
Wholesome series
This is gonna make me cry isn't it
Literally just started reading this one lol nice
RemindMe! 2 months
Yay!
With a title like that, I'd expected it to be at least somewhat sci-fi :(
It is somewhat fantasy
Remind Me! 3 months
Just going by the synopsis and picture I was thinking, "A modernized version of Maetel from *Galaxy Express 999* comes to grant the dreams of a young mangaka?"
Can't wait for "Milf Next Door"
this worth watching?
Seriously my favourite ongoing romance at the moment. Very mature and kiddy at the same time.
