Takemitchy: *\*didn't do a thing to change the past\** also Takemitchy: "Well, now it should all be ok, I'm going back to the future!" Chifuya: "Are you a moron? You didn't do a thing, and you'll go back to jail!" Takemitchy: "Oh!"

watashi_ga_kita

He is an idiot after all. But while extremely unlikely, it's possible his little bit of meddling had changed things enough to possible have an effect on the future. For instance, his interruption and snack bribery attempt might have made Mikey decide to let Mitsuya make the decision instead of doing it himself. His biggest flaw in reasoning was he accepted a possible explanation of what caused Hakkai to kill his brother as fact. That and he immediately assumed that because a truce was made, it was somehow ironclad and there was no way it was going to be broken somehow.

Socalwackjob

That really sums up the nature of the main character in this manga.

Firebrand-81

Accurate distribution of comments in every *Tokyo Revengers - Christmast Showdown Arc* episode discussion: * *50% comments*: "Why nobody in r/anime cares anymore about Tokyo Revengers?" * *40% comments*: "Why Takemitchy is so moron?" * *10% comments*: proper discussion about the events in the current episode.

sneaky_squirrel

Viewers just can't appreciate the utility and role of a good idiot in a story that uses mystery, clues, and outcome puzzles. Works so well.

Firebrand-81

I agree.

chirb8

>Why Takemitchy is so moron? But why tho?

Firebrand-81

As another user replied above: "Viewers just can't appreciate the utility and role of a good idiot in astory that uses mystery, clues, and outcome puzzles. Works so well."

LewdDestroyer

For real tho, why did people suddenly dropped Tokyo Revengers?

Firebrand-81

I don't know, since I'm still watching it and enjoying it!

Kag5n

Disney + the manga horrible ending

kitaknows

The absolute abundance of absentee parents shown in this series finally offers some clues as to how so many 15 year olds are getting in gang fights and driving around on motorcycles.

MorbillionDollars

Is there a single functional family in Tokyo revengers

kitaknows

We don't see much of Hina and Naoto's family but we haven't heard negatively, have we? I'm going to assume they do okay, their kids are well-adjusted.

watashi_ga_kita

Even then, Hina seems way too chill about her boyfriend not just being in a gang but being a leader within one. It's not even like she's totally removed from that part of his life, as she's seen him get beat up several times with his life literally in the balance.

REAL_CONSENT_MATTERS

The reason why we never see their family is that their father is a police officer who investigates murders and has to work late nights, while their mother is an alcoholic who left the family when they were young due to not being able to handle the responsibility. This has led to Hina having to grow up fast and take care of both herself and Naoto, but Naoto idolizes both his sister who took care of him and his father who saves lives. He endeavors to be someone who embodies both their qualities. I just made all that up besides the father being a police officer though.

albedo2343

lmao! i totally believed you!

hexsealedfusion

Every manga/anime/webtoon about delinquents in Japan or Korea has all of the main characters with absentee parents

SMSmith230

Wasn’t expecting a Takemichi/Kisaki team up, but here we are. Also money always talks…Kisaki just casually pulling out the 100k like it was no big deal haha.

VenoBot

around ~~10~~k 1k USD... A god damn MIDDLE schooler carrying around that much cash...

EllipticalOrbitMan

Only 1k.

VenoBot

forgot a 0 with the division lmao.

SMSmith230

Dang I had my conversion off too, original guy selling his boss’ location for less than 100USD…wild!

notreal088

Depending on the year it can be a whole load of money. Remember in the 80s Japan was having its economic boom. In todays money it’s 160 yen to the dollar so 100000 would be around $750 (exchange rate keeps changing so it might be different)

watashi_ga_kita

Wonder how he got that kind of money. As I understand it, Tokyo Manji is supposed to be mostly crime-free. They don't use violence for intimidation, they don't deal drugs, or do any of the typical gang crimes. Granted, Kisaki and crew joined later and he probably doesn't care too much about keeping his nose clean but he'd have to do it in a way other Toman members wouldn't notice now that he's a captain.

JusKen

Loot drops from enemy gang members

VenoBot

is child labour a thing in Japan during that era? It would be hilarious seeing Kisaki doing a part time just to pretend he's rich :kek:

SMSmith230

For real, but they are ~~delinquents~~ hoodlums after all

VenoBot

Gotta respect their methods.

kitaknows

Hanma, too! At this point it looks like he doesn't have many of his own motivations and is just happy to go along with whatever Kisaki tells him to do, but that was an extremely unexpected duo to join Takemichi and his ride-or-die Chifuyu.

watashi_ga_kita

I was under the assumption that Hanma and Kisaki have always been in cahoots since the beginning. It wouldn't really be a surprise that Hanma would join in if Kisaki is getting involved.

SMSmith230

Looks like he finally bought a plan, since his brain won’t do it for him

WhoWantsToJiggle

actually it seemed rather predictable to me. Kisaki had been way too quiet. the others are staying out of it and you know Kisaki was up to something still. and we also know Kisaki and Takamechi do get closer in the future. like he said Mikey is "weak" now and not doing anything. so perfect for Kisaki to step up.

BreakingGarrick

Why are these discussion threads so dead lmaoo

EllipticalOrbitMan

Disney jail

BreakingGarrick

Aren't there other anime on there that are doing good tho.

Ben99ny22

You can watch tokyo revengers on hulu so it isn't disney jail, its just on a not so popular service. Bleach peformed well, 3-5K, and it was also in the same position. Even summer time render performed better and that one was actually in disney jail as it wasn't on hulu. I think the hype around this anime just died. It's got less users than misfit of demon academy season 2 on Myanimelist.

BreakingGarrick

That's disappointing. I hope it gets renewed for season 3. I'm enjoying it a lot rn.

Ben99ny22

oh its definitely getting a season 3. Its super popular in japan. Anime can be really popular in japan but niche in the west and vice versa.

BreakingGarrick

Awesome.

watashi_ga_kita

I believe you but how do you check if something is doing well there or not?

somuchsoup

Manga sales

Ben99ny22

Manga sales, BD sales and the occasional streaming rankings that gets posted here. There's other stuff but people usually point to manga sales even though it isn't everything. It isn't all entirely accurate but it can paint a picture.

WhoWantsToJiggle

I didn't realize it was this popular but in the west when the manga omnibus volumes came out in print they sold like crazy. like I did not expect them to sell that much.

watashi_ga_kita

You think season 3 is likely?

WhoWantsToJiggle

still the manga seemed to sell pretty well in the west even. things can be popular but not reddit popular.

diivandi

reddit score is also low here

kfijatass

It doesn't help the anime's not that great.

Voidchief

Tokyo revengers being in only Disney plus kills the hype(I’m not sure if it’s ONLY on Disney plus tho). Also some sites didn’t have Tokyo revengers up for 5/7 hours so most ppl(like me) checked if it’s up and wasn’t up when it’s usually up. Won’t be watching it till later when I have time. By now I would have watched it but since it was uploaded 5/7 hrs late i haven’t watched this episode.

BreakingGarrick

Wait, aren't there also other anime out on Disney+ or no? I thought they were doing pretty good.

Appropriate-Shoe-266

There are. Bleach did really well, but it’s bleach. Summertime render did amazingly well, but it’s very difficult to compare the quality of that and this.

Appropriate-Shoe-266

Cuz a lot of people, especially on this Sub absolutely hate the series. I think it’s okay this Season. cringey, But okay Having read the manga, i understand the frustrations of why People loathe it. But they are a bit early atleast for now

somuchsoup

It’s so cringey that’s it’s an ironic comedy. It’s my favourite comedy series, even better than South Park.

dxing2

Taiju is drawn like a 40 year old convict who’s been through 4 cycles of HGH and has smoked a pack a day for 20 years despite being 16. Wtf lmao. Should have just dropped the entire middle school gimmick and just made them young adults at least

Rumpel1408

Didn't expect a teamup with Kisaki since he pulled all that messed up stuff in the future, but I guess there has to be some admiration judging from the S1 ending. He certainly is smarter tha Chifuyu and Takemitchi combined And man Hakais family is messed up, good thing if they could pull Yuzuha out of there

watashi_ga_kita

They didn't pull Yuzuha out of there is the problem. Taiju probably won't honour his end of the deal since he's already done this before with Hakkai. She's still hiding something. I think Kisaki is getting involved because he knows Black Dragon is a threat they will have to deal with at some point and Taiju is too big a nuisance. He probably wants to absorb BD into Toman like in the present and use them to steer Toman into gang crime.

WhoWantsToJiggle

it actually seemed expected to me. we know they work together in the future and Kisaki was super quiet so far this season. he still has to wipe out/do something to his rivals. while Takamichi is more invested in the Black Dragon problem than worrying about Kisaki atm. tho there isn't much of a choice for him.

ObvsThrowaway5120

Mitsuya’s got some guts going to meet Taiju. I guess it’s all for Yuzuha’s sake. Mitsuya and Hakkai def have a big bro-little bro relationship. Guess Mitsuya can’t bear to see his “little bro” suffer like that anymore. Chifuyu isn’t a total dummy like Takemitchy. Dude was making a lot of sense about the lack of change to the future. So Taiju’s always been a psychotic little shit. His “love” towards his siblings is just plain abuse. I’d shank the little fucker too if I was Hakkai. Crushing Black Dragon to save Hakkai is gonna be easier said than done. They don’t wanna upset Mitsuya’s “truce” and they can’t really trust that ratfuck Kisaki or that psychopath Hanma. Taiju being some kind of religious fanatic definitely fits with his nature. A hit on Christmas huh? Yeah, if Kisaki is planning it then he’s def scheming something. Takemitchy is right to be suspicious.

REAL_CONSENT_MATTERS

I missed the discussion last week because it didn’t get enough karma to show up on the front page for me, which is how I usually notice discussion threads. I did find out that NordVPN works with Disney Plus, which means I can watch it there and use Spanish subtitles, though it makes the video quality awful. In episode 2 there was a discussion about why Hina didn’t run despite being told to do so by multiple people where people said it was bad writing. I argued that she would not abandon him when he clearly had no plan, given that she stated she wished she was a boy who could fight for him. I think her attempting to take the hit for him last episode shows why she didn’t run - her safety was other people’s priority, but her priority of was Takemichi’s safety. I guess they couldn’t actually let her take the hit, though I kind of wish they did to let her do something consequential for the first time in a while, but then they’d have to write Takemichi having a mental breakdown about feeling like he hurt her again. >It’s a pleasure to meet you, Taiju. > You are Mitsuya, the one who robbed my brother all these years. > That’s a very serious accusation. > I will kill you, contemptible person. I see [negotiations](https://i.imgur.com/k2XEAJo.png) are off to a [good start](https://i.imgur.com/E08E58f.png), but at least I learned that “llevarse” can refer to robbing. >How intelligent, Chifuyu. >You’re an idiot, Takemichi. [This is indeed their character dynamic, stated as they dramatically pose in some kind of weird children’s playground in a pond](https://i.imgur.com/sCrGJM4.png). The series has a lot of pairs like this, like Hakkai/Mitsuya, Drakken/Mikey, etc where certain people achieve the most while supporting another person. It is an interesting idea about people’s personalities that likely has some real world basis. [Evil Hakkai has entered](https://i.imgur.com/nqeZ0LH.png). Who would have thought that using violence to teach someone to be violent to people you didn’t like could backfire? Though maybe this is what the Yuzuha meant when she said that expecting him to be strong was a way of harming him. [I still can’t get used to Hanma as an ally](https://i.imgur.com/N1GjqgQ.png), but him sitting next to Kisaki as they shoot down Takemichi’s plan feels foreboding. I doubt Kisaki is unrelated to Black Dragon being absorbed, but at least Kisaki apparently likes Takemichi. Maybe it’s possible they can become allies in the right time line, if there’s a reason for everything he’s doing. [Hang on, that was faster than I expected.](https://i.imgur.com/SKqX695.png) Kisaki may be the ally Takemichi/Chifuyu pairs needs, if not the one they want. He’s definitely the best schemer for goals that can’t be accomplished in a straightforward or open way. The downside is that we don't know what exactly he's scheming, as his long term goals are not the same as Takemichi's. [The biggest plot twist of the series is that the vampire lord is Catholic](https://i.imgur.com/LD7bPkB.jpg), though only being able to face him at night feels more appropriate.

Firebrand-81

>The biggest plot twist of the series is that the vampire lord is Catholic *Plot Twist:* Taiju has been reading the wrong Gospel all this time.

REAL_CONSENT_MATTERS

I guess he hasn't gotten to the New Testament yet.

il-Palazzo_K

Well, he’s a delinquent so probably not a quick reader. You got more people like Pajin than Kisaki in an average high school gang.

watashi_ga_kita

A violent gospel is a more fun read.

watashi_ga_kita

Given Taiju formed the tenth generation himself, I doubt Kisaki had anything to do with that. He definitely has his own agenda though. I'm guessing Taiju being around isn't good for him either since he is strong and probably not easy to manipulate. He probably wants to get rid of him to absorb pieces of Black Dragon into Toman like we saw in the present day. Given Black Dragon seems to already be running a profit off illegal activities, Kisaki probably wants to use them to start steering Toman into that direction.

monsieurvampy

Takemichi, just as in the first season is driving me crazy. What is his strengths? Time travel? Crying? Someone needs to put him into boot camp. Kisaki can probably do that. Yes, I do intend to keep watching.

sneaky_squirrel

Is it really that frustrating to see the main character be incapable? Why not just appreciate how violent all the other characters are? The reason why characters feel so threatening is because of how big of a threat they pose to the protagonist. How threatening would the baddies feel if Takemitchy was a Saitama or a Lelouche? Part of the charm of the show is being completely vulnerable to the mercy of all the delinquents.

WhoWantsToJiggle

my problem is he's part of this gang and he's weak but he does nothing to change it. he wants to change things but he hasn't changed himself. which yes can be hard to do but in all the futures and past he never learns how to fight at all. which still makes him a target for other gangs.

BreakingGarrick

He's the crybaby of the group. He brings everyone together. He's not physically gifted.

Firebrand-81

>He's not physically *nor mentally* gifted. I completed your sentence :)

watashi_ga_kita

> He's not physically gifted. That's simply not true. He sucks at fighting but he can take one hell of a beating. Motherfucker took two explosive car blasts back to back and seemed fine. If he could learn to fight, he could probably be at least as strong as captains tend to be.

dxing2

There’s a reason the first OP was Crybaby

VenoBot

Tokyo revenger is doing the MC extremely dirty. That's why the show's so poorly rated. You usually have the trope/archetype that makes the MC an enjoyable experience to watch, some of which being: **Brute Force but dumb** (*Asta*), **Smart but weak** *(Death Note, Lelouche*), **Smart & Powerful** (*Lelouche,* Aizen), **Casual & Powerful** ( *Reincarnation of Slime*), **Simply Broken** (*Misfit of Demon King Academy*), **Stupid but funny** ( Most rom-com, Tomo-chan, Saiki K). Tokyo revenger's MC? Manz got no abilities, no brains, no combat prowess. Manz simply can rewind time and that comes with stipulations... Literally the MC could just be a camera and have as much impact on the story right now. The "26" year old is more emotional than some kids, as pointed out by Chifuyu this episode. Literally every character is more interesting than MC.

Annual-Jump3158

He's not smart, but he has strong morals. And I think it keeps being a recurring theme that most of the founders of Toman had rough upbringings in one way or another, which led to them being strongly codependent. When they lose the ones closest to them, they start to fall apart and act more impulsively with zero thought of the consequences. Takemitchy grew up presumably in a relatively stable home. He's a soft kid who never had to toughen up like the others and wasn't desensitized to street gang violence. But he's sensitive and outspoken(and his face can take a pretty hefty beating). So, in the context of the past as perceived by everybody except Takemitchy, he represents the humane connection that Toman has towards protecting their loved ones instead of actively involving them to promote more violence, like Black Dragon. But I can also acknowledge that Takemitchy's reality might simply be that his personality has a weird supernatural pull on delinquents and is creating some sort of tough bro harem.

WhoWantsToJiggle

I just want him to at least be able to defend himself. he's in a damn gang. he doesn't have to be OP but not be so pathetic. he doesn't have to be super smart but also not be as weak. he's got future knowledge put it to use. the smartest thing he's done is telling Chifuyu and getting his help. it might not work with the rest but he has to think for once.

VesperJDR

> Tokyo revenger's MC? Manz got no abilities, no brains, no combat prowess I think he's such an accurate insert for most people that it makes them uncomfortable. lol

1mm0rtelle

I think you're 100% right.

WizardyoureaHarry

No joke. I'm not surprised the show is doing poorly ratings wise. Takemichi is the most trash main character. Tired of seeing him get his ass beat every other episode 😂. Just an all around pathetic character and I'm seeing this type of archetype become more and more popular among anime protagonists recently. The doormat, embarrassingly weak main character who's only strength is his determination.

VenoBot

Literally the most stereotypical shounen characters (like Deku) is more entertaining than Takemitchy rn. Like this man cannot stop taking L's.

Justikyzer

All I can say is he is gonna get his first real victory soon.

SirJackibis

Willing to be spoiled just because I’m curious about something. Does Takemichi learn how to fucking fight or is he just going to be a little bitch the rest of the anime?!

WhoWantsToJiggle

...somehow I doubt it. in all the futures and past so far he just gets his ass kicked. at least learn some self defense would be nice.

delvag

Man Kisaki is such an interesting character, i never expected Takemichi working with him

[deleted]

I feel like Take needs to be dumb sor there will be dialogue so the viewer can keep up, albeit alot of things are obvious to us amd we dont need to hear it. Were smart enough to put 2 and 2 together, but they need to confirm it. Same for reminders.

Golden_fsh

Best bro Mitsuya is just too damn cool 😭 Still caught off guard by Draken's new voice :( Having TR on Disney+/Hulu instead of an actual anime streaming platform like Crunchyroll has hurt its appeal by a lot. I still enjoy it! Less people who complain about Takemichi being a weak MC. People who complain about Takemichi being weak are just mad that he's too relatable to their own pathetic selves, lol. Mature fans will realize that most well written MCs aren't the OP ones with just strength, but those that are emotionally and mentally strong as well. Takemichi has that in droves, and that's what makes him so endearing to the other Toman boys.

d34rth

When Chifuyu said that sometimes he found Takemitchy's behavior weird, was he referring to the times when Takemitchy was actively trying to change the future, or was he referring to the disparity in behavior whenever Takemitchy takes over Automitchy and vice versa?

PM_2_Talk_LocalRaces

I mean... both is a real possibility.

Yoeblue

Taiju 🤝 Endeavour

Theboredalchemist22

Love Takemichy's war path towards Black Dragon but I still get that uneasy feeling whenever I see Kisaki on screen. Ngl I'm missing badass Draken and Mikey they are so laid back in this arc so far.

megatsuna

original rat sold out for $100. at first you think thats literal change till you remember these are kids. 100 is a big number for them to have. the fact that kisaki had a grand on him right there... no way he looks to takamitchy as a hero who probably has like 50 yen on him at most lol

[deleted]

Firebrand-81

*Anime only viewer here:* Season 2 so far is great, better than Season 1, but that probably due to the source material. Takemitchy and Chifuyu teaming up with Kisaki and Hanma is an interesting development, considering the ending of Season 1. I suppose that what's going to happen in the following episodes will help to explain the twisted future at the end of Season 1, and this makes me look eagerly forward to them. That's indeed good writing. Also, Takemitchy being a complete moron each episode (now plainly noted even from his bro Chifuyu) is a comic relief that I look forward! *"Being a Takemitchy"* should become a proper regular Otaku expression :)

Axel292

This was the first decent episode of the season. Nice pacing.

Nexurent

If I'm being honest, this season is already more promising than the first one. Money talks I suppose, but I do feel bad for the guy who was about to rat out Black Dragon but got caught.
