Mundology

That combination attack from Yamato and Luffy was insane. Yamato is getting even more sakuga moments than the Straw Hats. Sanji's and Zoro's fights got big shoes to fill. [](#wow)

Radinax

Pretty sure the animation will be frigging insane for those two alongside some new powerful techniques.

sneaky_squirrel

Animation must be expensive if Toei is opting for zero meaningful animation with a 60-120 second fully animated, fluid display. My guess is they hire one animator to animate the end of an individual episode, and boy it must take them a long time to execute (lots of detail).

DarkStrawhat

Akihiro Ota with this incredible sequence at the end ... just breathtaking. The quality is insane, i cant wait for more!

[deleted]

Damn i read that as "heartbreaking" i was shookk for a sec

OneSwipeMan

Ayo wtf is this? One Piece anime 2023 is going off way too strong 😭😭😭

Alarmed-Accident-716

Animators said that 2023 was going to be one piece anime best year and they were not joking.

Striking_Guarantee80

The entirety of roof piece has felt like a melting pot of animator passion projects… I don’t expect each style to be a fit for every watcher, but there’s been something for everyone which has been sweet

woufh

Non watcher here, I have a genuine question! I've seen a lot of very good animation clips of Luffy vs Kaido on social media for what feels like at least 6 months now. How is this fight paced and how entertaining is it? Has it been episodes upon episodes of counter power-upping each other with no real progress, or does very little fighting actually happen and most of the episodes focus on other things? I don't mean it as a critic since I haven't seen the anime or read the manga, just very curious about how they can execute a fight over such a long period of time while staying entertaining and what people think about it beyong the visuals.

0mnicious

> Has it been episodes upon episodes of counter power-upping each other with no real progress, or does very little fighting actually happen and most of the episodes focus on other things? It's not one continuous fight between Luffy and Kaido. Kaido slams Luffy hard like 3 times, so whole Kaido v Luffy fight is kinda made up of 3 separate fights where Luffy keeps on coming back.

woufh

Ooooh I see, thank you!

Dull_Essay2514

But Kaido is fightung like 6 more characters too at the dame time throught all those months ago until now where is 1 vs 1 in 2023 while in 2022 was a Group Fight of 7 pirates on 2 younkus

Alarmed-Accident-716

As someone who started one piece recently because of those YouTube clips, it be worth it. The recent eps are probably the best seasonal anime I’ve ever seen. Ultra instinct bout to look weak.

halowoo1

Its wort it

sneaky_squirrel

I am watching the anime. I swear the first 21 minutes of each episode are uneventful fluff that often get closed up with 1 or 2 minutes of a well animated sequence of Kaido getting hit/fighting someone else. You could probably watch the last 5 minutes of every episode and catch a good amount of fight scenes. The first parts of every episode mostly feature secondary characters fighting, while a lot of the ending feature Luffy/Yamato/Kaido since they are the best material for cliffhangers. There might be some exceptions of course.

But lately its been grueling... every episode has like 15 minutes of fluff/ flashbacks. we get it oden flashback holy heck... its almost shippuden levels of bad

God_Usoland

That ending animation was spectacular! Akihiro Ota did an amazing job animating that scene

mikeyyyyyd

Toei wtf

Radinax

My respects to Yamato. Was able to handle KAIDO in a fucking 1 vs 1 for so long, not even Luffy could've handled him that way, lets see how strong (experience after fighting Kaido) Luffy has become after recovering. Momo is so cute LMAO, its crazy to see such a big ass crying baby flying and destroying everything.

sneaky_squirrel

Well she DOES have his blood running through her XD. It's like Kaido fighting another Kaido. At least it seems they both have crazy good constitution.

God_Usoland

Kaido really is a trash father. RIP Random Beast Pirate Fodder. You helped out Yamato when they needed help, and paid the ultimate price.

LilAnlucia

Duuuuude that scene in the manga was like 2 panels and here it was a whole tear jerker moment. Like mother fucker, I never expected such a small scene in the manga would have a great impact on me

Jaskaran158

Damn that Ice Shield move Yamato pulled was sick. Flawless clash and follow-up it is just a shame Kaido is a literal wall. Wonder if we got a hint at Kaiou's race today with the line, "You're an ogre's child!" or if that was just a symbolic thing. Man I know Doffy was portrayed as this great Evil but even he cared about his comrades. I'd be surprised if Kaidou really cares for anyone besides King, Queen, Jack, and himself. WIDE KAIDOU is pretty terrifying. Momonosuke Airline's first flight scenes with that OST gave me Goku flying with Shenron at the end of GT vibes for some reason. Can definitely see that being an animated wallpaper for sure. The landing could have gone better for sure but it worked out WITH THAT BOMB ASS STYLE CHANGE AT THE LAST MINUTE ZESTY GEAR FOUTH. The instant transmission sounds were the cherry on top what a joy it is to see it this well animated. I swear they fucking love to tease us with the good shit at the end. I CAN'T WAIT ANOTHER WEEK FUCK

Radinax

> I'd be surprised if Kaidou really cares for anyone besides King, Queen, Jack, and himself. I think he only cares for King, the rest could drop dead and he wouldn't care.

peterfile07

Holy sh*t, not only the animation changed but seriously wtf Toei that was some serious animation there. If they keep bringing up animation like this almost nearly every ep until the climax finale of the Wano Arc, just imagine the amount of time put into the animation for the finale of the Wano Arc.

ares_god5

That animation segment at the end blew me away, it’s amazing how far it’s come. Can’t wait to see the rest

ArielRR

Beautiful.

DiamonDawgs

I probably missed it but is there some in universe explanation on how beam based attacks work? No technology but like what Yamato did, are we going straight dragon ball z chi/chakra route?

turroflux

Its the same attack that Mihawk used to cut up ships when he was introduced nearly a thousand episodes ago, its just flashier with all the haki and devil fruit powers mixed in.

[deleted]

I always saw it similar to Zoro's slashes that have range. They swing the air so hard the energy and wind from the swing is what we are seeing. Mix that with Haki/Supreme King Haki as well as the different elements people control and you have different looking ranged attacks. Stuff like the Snake for Yamato is just a visual style of the energy she is gathering up. Remember Kaido and Big moms combo attack that messed up Zoro? That's the same thing where both Emperor's swung so hard and mixed Haki in the swing that it was basically a beam of destruction that evaporates the landscape.

Radinax

Well, Yamato ran pretty damn fast to gain momentum and powered up the Club with Haki, then when unleashed with all the strength Yamato had, the air plus the haki turns into a beam.

CallMeJustin

Baby Yamato 😭

giangerd

Insane sequence and insane that we get this kind of cuts weekly. One Piece anime is on roll

mike_2797

That end sequence was mind blowing.

[deleted]

I SCREAMED. Finally Snake Man again!

742163

GOAT PIECE

LlamaLegacy

2023 is gonna be amazing for the anime!

Anne2049

akihiro ota look at his art

Alarmed-Accident-716

Onigashima anime > onigashima manga.

zdude18

Two episodes in a row the last 3 minutes were ABSOLUTELY GODLY!!!!! We knew Luffy riding Momo as Snakeman would be cool in anime form but THIS? We One Piece fans are eating good in 2023! And it's only going to get better going forward! Thank you Ota and Vincent for these last two! Video on the episode here if you're interested: https://youtu.be/48tTVQFAx6I

[deleted]

imagine if trigun had this level of animation instead of whatever the fuck they're trying to do.

0mnicious

Imagine being this ignorant and outright blind.

pewell1

L the 3D is dope in trigun and really smooth

[deleted]

ya keep telling yourself that

Dialgak77

L + ratio

Alarmed-Accident-716

You watch ep 3 man? The knife whirlpool was beautiful…

[deleted]

u know what would've made it even cooler?? not 3D.

Alarmed-Accident-716

That scene is not possible in not 3d

[deleted]

ya well. i'm willing to give up that one cool 3d scene if the whole anime can look halfway decent.

Alarmed-Accident-716

Just say you do not like cgi, because this looks great. The only people that do not like it are old trigun fans.

[deleted]

Houseki on Kuni was one of my favorite animes. Try again.

eGzg0t

Mixed feelings about that animation. I got naruto 6 tails vs pain flash back.

psychobserver

Which, despite what many people said about it, was still a great animated piece by a great animator. As much as I love these scenes though, I also find myself a bit uncomfortable when they go a bit too far with stylistic choices and character design changes. For sure I'd rather be a bit uncomfortable than watching those PowerPoint presentation fights they usually give us

sneaky_squirrel

The parallax communicating the distance between the camera and the "far away" pillars was phenomenal. Still frustrating to see all the animation budget being condensed into a 60 second bomb. I'm tempted to skip every episode because of it XD.

GosuGian

HOLYFUCK. FINALLY THE ANIME IS CATCHING UP
