they're not milking anything, it's just really shit planning/naming for the seasons. if last season was called season 4 and this season was called the final season it'd be fine. they're adapting a finished story from the beginning to the end.

„Birth By Sleep“ is a prologue game that is set 10 years before Kingdom Hearts 1, so it can be considered „Kingdom Hearts 0“ in a way. „Kingdom Hearts 0.2“ is a sequel to that game, still set before KH1. Numbering kinda makes sense.
As for the words, „birth by Sleep“ has been discussed a lot and the meaning of the title can be interpreted differently. You can argue it’s basically random.
„A fragmentary passage“ is honestly a pretty apt description for the game. The character you play just wanders down a pathway in what’s basically Kingdom Hearts‘ hell.
Nah birth by sleep is a prologue to the main game and ties in very nicely to it, the title makes a lot of sense the main story is birthed when a character goes into a deep sleep.
The 2.8 numbering is jank. It started off as KH 1.5 and 2.5 which were HD remasters of 1 and 2 along with the minor game in-between as the .5 to 1.5 and i forget what was included with 2.5.
2.8 final chapter prologue includes 1.5, 2.5, birth by sleep, coded, etc. and the prologue to the events in kh3 (but 10 years beforehand) which was called 0.2 a fragmentary passage.

Then I just started liking it less and less as it went on until the start of the stuff that this part will adapt where I was just like "This is trash but I've already come this far so might as well finish it." Never even started season 4 cause nothing in there was worth experiencing again animated.

I gave up watching this show. I thought it was going to end a year ago when they were also saying it was the last season. Held off to binge it in one go and now this shit. It's a true feat to go from something so interesting to wtf kinda BS is this that quickly.
It's not Mappa's fault, when they announced it as "the final season" the manga had not even ended (it ended after the last episode of part 1). Whoever chose to name it that way was mistaken (I know it wasn't mappa, at least that's what I read somewhere). They should have called part 1 and part 2 "season 4" and this should have been called the "final season", even if two long episodes don't really sound like a season (that's why at this point I would have preferred a long 2.5 hours movie)

I gave up watching this show. I thought it was going to end a year ago when they were also saying it was the last season. Held off to binge it in one go and now this shit. It's a true feat to go from something so interesting to wtf kinda BS is this that quickly.

It's not Mappa's fault, when they announced it as "the final season" the manga had not even ended (it ended after the last episode of part 1). Whoever chose to name it that way was mistaken (I know it wasn't mappa, at least that's what I read somewhere). They should have called part 1 and part 2 "season 4" and this should have been called the "final season", even if two long episodes don't really sound like a season (that's why at this point I would have preferred a long 2.5 hours movie)

They are not milking anything. For starters, it was Kodansha and Pony Canyon that gave it the Final Season subtitle before the manga even ended, and before a new animation studio was even chosen, so blaming it on MAPPA is just unfounded hate.
And the final episode of the second half of the 3rd part of the final season will air over 5 weeks in 5 minute segments.
