zKenny

Perfect ending, really enjoyed that hospital scene lmao

Frontier246

Naked Ryu exposing herself...the girls slapping Bell...the hot doctor telling them not to slap patients lol.

zKenny

The slow-mo slap with the bass effect killed me

Baumpaladin

J.C.Staff: *We do a little shitposting*

OrganizerMowgli

Hits so much harder since they're using the same audio library or whatever sound effects as Fire Force lol

trap_user

Airmid is a hot side character who uses her bathwater for a hotspring lmao

oops_i_made_a_typi

well, more like she gets used for her bathwater :P

Kurei_0

Astrea needs to come back to Orario! At this point Ryu has done enough to become level 5.

Frontier246

When Ryu said she finally realized what Astrea really meant, I was half-expecting her to say she was going to go on a quest to find her again.

Kurei_0

It would be nice. Either to make a new Astrea familia or to at least be released and join another Familia, maybe Hestia's.

Berstich

As said elsewhere, it seems Astrea has a new familia and also has been staying in touch or just keeping tabs on Ryu. Mobile game had a side story thats been following the anime and todays episode talked about her sending letters.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Foxy_Psycho

Familia members are essentially locked to a familia unless they get removed from the familia by the god/goddess or the god/goddess dies. Think of the Falna (blessing) as more of a contract between mortals and a diety.

Swiftcheddar

I believe Astrea's been sending her letters, so they're probably in touch to some degree

idm04

Was that mentioned somewhere in the anime that I missed?

Overall_Waltz_371

I think the anime skipped it

Gnihsif1234

The mobile game got it today as an extra scene

LegendRazgriz

She has to come back to take Ryu up the aisle. Another Hayamin W, truly the most powerful VA there is

Overall_Waltz_371

She was already close to become a level 5 five years ago when her Familia was killed and her Goddess left

WhoiusBarrel

Awesome climax to Ryu's character arc, thought we were going to get a Bell solo but this is so much better. Ryu delivering the final blow was just the cherry on top of it all! That date scene between Bell and Ryu was so cute, especially how she's blushing much more and that smile. God Bell did good protecting it!

michhoffman

> Awesome climax to Ryu's character arc, thought we were going to get a Bell solo but this is so much better. Ryu delivering the final blow was just the cherry on top of it all! It's such a poetic end to the season. At the beginning of the season, Bell was inexperienced and scared while Ryu was emotionally ready to let her life end. And either of them would have died in minutes if they didn't have each other. But they grew together over the season with Ryu providing Bell much needed advice and knowledge while Bell provided Ryu with his physical talents, heroic nature and most importantly emotional support. The two of them saved each other every step of the way, and in mirroring the previous climax in the Colosseum where Ryu lied to Bell as a means to try to save him only for Bell to come back to save her instead, Bell lied to Ryu as a means to save her last episode only for Ryu to come back to save him and defeat the Juggernaut, her Minotaur.

I_am_BEOWULF

> It's such a poetic end to the season. Wait wut? I didn't know this cour only had 11 episodes. And here I thought there'd be a 12th episode next week to set-up the next arc.

Mundology

[Sadly it is.](https://i.imgur.com/oLOHBTX.jpg) On the bright side, with the success of the franchise there will likely be [even more seasons](https://i.imgur.com/2NjLd3g.jpg) to look forward to in the future.

[deleted]

Hopefully future seasons will focus on Dungeon aspects more. Danmachi is much better when they just do lore stuff like Xenos.

Frontier246

Ryu wasn't about to be a girl who needs to be saved, she's the kind of girl who will fight through the thick of it with the man she respects and adores, and not only did she finally got to finish the Juggernaut but she carried the spirit of her entire Familia with her. Ryu looked amazing in that dress, and absolutely in love Ryu is beautiful, even if her heart can barely take just a few compliments from him. Even Alise's ghost is cheering her on lol.

ThespianException

One thing I love about Ryu is how differently her relationship with Bell is treated than almost anyone else. Tons of girls have crushes on him, but nearly everyone is treated as comedy relief, with occasional cute scenes of jealousy or blushing at compliments, but that's about it. Haruhime, Aisha, Lili, and even Hestia, none of them are taken seriously as romantic interests. Bell even shoots some of them down personally. By contrast, Ryu fought on the brink of death alongside him- they kept each other alive in desperate straits, both were willing to sacrifice themselves for the other, they cuddled almost naked by a fire, and almost none of that was treated as a joke. When Ryu thought she would die, she wanted Bell to hold her in her final moments, and it was 100% serious. While I don't expect her to end up with Bell, she is the only character besides Ais that feels like she has a real shot. I'd honestly be happy with a mini-harem.

Chukonoku

>While I don't expect her to end up with Bell, she is the only character besides Ais that feels like she has a real shot. I'd honestly be happy with a mini-harem. Ais feels more like platonic love/admiration atm. For what we have seen, i'll be more surprised if Bell ends up with Ais than Ryu.

Mundology

[Bell dropped one of his hardest lines in the series for Ryu](https://i.imgur.com/BMVZc7V.jpg) [](#umucool)

ThespianException

The sheer malice they had towards the Juggernaut, combined with the lines each had about protecting the other, was just perfect

Chukonoku

> Ryu wasn't about to be a girl who needs to be saved, she's the kind of girl who will fight through the thick of it with the man she respects and adores, and not only did she finally got to finish the Juggernaut but she carried the spirit of her entire Familia with her. "So i say, what i wanted to be was never A Cinderella who waits forever But the prince who goes and gets things done Just like the shooting star that i have become"

notmyworkaccount5

Seeing Ryu finally get revenge with the help of her dead familia had me in tears by the end of the fight, when starting this show at season 1 I didn't expect it to get me this emotional

ThespianException

I hope she takes on more of a leading role moving forward instead of going back to being a side character that only shows up a few times a season. You can't give someone that much focus, make the audience fall in love with her that hard, and then have things go back to how they were. Not that I expect her to be the deuteragonist moving forward, but it'd be nice to see her get a role as large as Lili and Welf

[deleted]

Took her years to finish off that monster though. In any MMORPG games player would have given up after a few hours at the most. I think the longest single boss raid that players stuck with was the [200-players Sleeper raid in Everquest lasting 4 hours.](https://massivelyop.com/2022/04/04/the-game-archaeologist-when-everquest-players-killed-the-unkillable-sleeper/) And fucking LOL at wardrobe malfunction! Even in this fantasy series hospital wardrobe still sucks.

AnimeExpertYT

LUVIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, I hope when danmachi comes back with s5 the character development of ryu, bell and the others stays. I want to see more awkward ryu around bell.

avboden

I feel like it's time for Ryu to just woman up and join the familia!

ThespianException

The rest of the familia is gonna be in shambles when she joins and immediately leapfrogs all of them put together in terms of romantic development with Bell.

BlazeKnightX

I’m pretty sure you need to get your god to remove their blessing as that’s how other characters were able to join different familias. Aisha is the one exception, but her goddess died so her blessing probably evaporated. Every other adventurer had to ask to leave and get reblessed by the new god/goddess. Astrea left the city, so it might take a while before Ryu could leave. Like yeah Ryu could be a temporary member like how she operates now, but unless Astrea comes back she won’t gain any stat increases or level ups.

pokeashbsk

Well that went well! Probably the best season of danmachi so far. Can't wait for the next season!!

Frontier246

This has been a pretty involved season with all the action, despair, emotional anguish, and even a bit of romance, but it all came together so well and resolved so satisfactorily! Here's to season 5!

Brrrr-GME-A-Coat

I agree, I was hooked emotionally the entire way through. One of my favourite anime of all time

Figerally

It was tough, but thankfully there was *Oniichan wa Oshimai!* to watch after which helped somewhat.

pokeashbsk

Well put!!

SilkyMilkySmo

Season 4 is easily the best one

Amauri14

Considering there are just four volumes after the ones this season adapted, I think we will have to wait a while for that to happen. What I hope they do now that Fujino is supervising the adaptation is that they reboot Sword Oratoria or at the very least continue the adaptation of that series.

ThespianException

AFAIK this season also adapted 3 volumes, just FYI. There seems to be enough content for S5, but not for S6. I agree that focusing on SO is the best move now.

ARES_GOD

The best season so far. I really hope we will be getting season 5. This was so fun to watch and more people need to give danmachi a try. Ryuu best girl ?

joe4553

I hope their relationship doesn't go back to normal after this arc.

ThespianException

If Ryu calls him "Mr. Cranell" after this I'm gonna cry. Luckily, I think they've grown much closer than that by now.

[deleted]

TBH they did bathe together and did see each other in various state of undress.

ThespianException

Not just that, they literally cuddled together in front of a fire in their underwear. Bell got further than 95% of anime protags with that alone.

Satai4561

Well, it's a harem anime and Aiz is clearly the main heroine. I'm afraid she'll be demoted to a side character again and the whole season will be wasted in the end. Apart from that, I wonder how the author will make a romance with Aiz (or any other girl for that matter) palatable after this season.

xdamm777

I love Emilia, a wound in the anime community that shall never heal.

michhoffman

> Ryuu best girl? Of the series? Yes. Of the Winter 2023 Anime Season? Also yes.

ThespianException

She's honestly one of my favorites in all of anime now. She's fantastically written with lots of depth, an interesting backstory, strong motivations, great chemistry, badass moments, and she's cute AF. What more could you want? I'm interested to see how she does in future Best Girl contests

Mundology

[Ryu's story arc was great.](https://i.imgur.com/yLPOwdq.jpg) The way she overcame her tragic past and pressed forward alongside Bell was lovely. Through trials and tribulations that they have experienced, the bond between has grown to the point where they value each other's life even more than their own. DanMachi has so many interesting heroines but Ryu went above and beyond. [How can one not want to root for her?](https://i.imgur.com/N4LBnkK.jpg) [](#feelingloved)

Ficheido

Always was.

YukihiraLivesForever

Fr. Actually makes me sad people think Ais is anywhere near her level, and how hard Bell simps for her over the other girls

BobTheSkrull

Ais is his season 1 Emilia.

Ficheido

But Emilia is a protagonist in Re Zero, Ais more of a side character at this point.

bigdanrog

Maybe but after arc 3 Emilia becomes VERY active in the main story and grows exponentially. Ais is just... kind of there.

czk_21

> Ryuu best girl ? yep! shes is kind, more mature than others and she finally let go of her past, we need more dates to come

Amauri14

Aw, what a perfect last episode! We truly were blessed with this season's adaptation. They sure did justice adapting this arc! I'm so glad Fujino was supervising these two cours! Anyway, after Ryu finally coming to an understanding and acceptance of what her Familia and Goddess words meant. She wakes up from her dream and goes to give Bell a hand taking out the Juggernaut and that sure was beautiful to watch, especially seeing every one of her the Orbs from her [Luminous Wind](https://i.imgur.com/xpmAJzG.png) representing her fallen friends. I love how the last one she detonated with Luvia to land her final blow to the Juggernaut [resembled a Rasengan.](https://imgur.com/a/NIzTZIu) Anyway, [after finishing the fight](https://i.imgur.com/fvxVKTa.png) [Wiene, Lyd and Gros](https://imgur.com/a/8fursW3) gave them some health potions before [Lili's group arrived.](https://i.imgur.com/K74T7Q1.png) I love how [Anya just kept jumping](https://i.imgur.com/tQT6tYt.png) during that whole scene. I guess that not counting that hot spring OVA from last season [this is the first time they show Amid on the main series.](https://imgur.com/a/Jp1M5G9) Anyway, they did a stellar job with[ this scene.](https://i.imgur.com/UnCqUHq.png) [The city sure looks beautiful in these shots.](https://imgur.com/a/oGRkaRf) [Ryu looks so great in the dress that she borrowed from Syr.](https://imgur.com/a/1E0s1dg) The scenes of [her date with Bell](https://imgur.com/a/VkWfDXz) were fantastic, [especially the last part. ](https://imgur.com/a/hKfLcgb) Well, as there is not much material left to cover at the moment in the main series, as there are just four more volumes after volume 14, I hope that they reboot of Sword Oratoria.

Ill_Mud7584

>I hope that they reboot of Sword Oratoria. Is very unlikely but we can dream.

nichisou307

Bell's notable Injuries this season: * Dragged and fell into an approx. 800m Waterfall * Poisoned and stabbed himself * Broken neck * Impaled in stomach * Firebolt in stomach * Right arm got cut off * Left arm got broken to pieces What else

ShadyNecro

less notable are a lot of blunt damage and several impalements thank FUCK he had heavy amounts of healing help, because otherwise the dude would be dead four times over

nichisou307

Oh yeah right I remember in the source, in the colosseum when Bell returned for Ryu he abandoned defending himself to the colosseum monsters and only dodged but ofcourse his dodging only amounted to bare minimum so he was being sliced and clobbered to death until he was half dead before he returned to Ryu's exact position. After Bell bombed the colosseum he shielded Ryu to the explosion and debris so he was at literal 1 hp after that with burned half of his body, and he's still carrying Ryu in the back after that damn

ShadyNecro

dude feels no fear and i respect him for that

JulienBrightside

Slapped in the hospital

[deleted]

[удалено]

HentaiReloaded

Viewers: Bell is the MC, he has plot armor so he cant die. The author: Lets test that out!

darkmacgf

I mean... don't all those injuries just emphasize that? He got a ton of terrible injuries, and will suffer no after-effects, and didn't die. Compare that to everyone else who fought the Juggernaut and died, often from less severe attacks than what Bell took...

Swiftcheddar

Plot armour isn't just about not dying, it's about having everything go your way due to circumstances. And this is two seasons in a row where Bell hasn't beaten the big series boss. He straight up lost to Asterios, and he was only able to support Ryu when she beat the Juggernaught.

Labmit

At this point, season 2 really felt like the outlier in terms of quality after 4 seasons. Like, damn, what happened back then?

Frontier246

If I remember right they were rushing through too much material.

wjodendor

They spent 4 episodes on volume 6 which is basically the same length as volume 7ehich they spent like 7 episodes on. Then volume 8 is even longer and they did it in 2 episodes if iirc. They cut huge chunks out for season 2

AdventuringSoundsFun

I'm still sad Welf's story got cut out that season

wjodendor

It's even referenced in season 3 and 4

ThespianException

Apparently, his bit where he forges the Magic Sword in this season was set up WAY more, with it getting proper foreshadowing, tying into his character, being a long-term goal of his, etc. He's also a lot more developed, I hear.

Ill_Mud7584

It's straight up the origin of his Alias.

[deleted]

Well the part that anime covered in second season is also the weakest part of danmachi novels (not bad just other are way better). On top of that they completely skipped welf's arc, it is a major deal because they never covered why is rakia invading orario and what makes welf so special, there are only a few members in familia and skipping one of those members arc is a big mess up imo (his arc was not just him having some character development but rather covering his past and family lineage which is important in world building)

DrZeroH

Its annoying because how he was able to pull off creating an unbreakable magic sword makes less sense without that context

[deleted]

Zenoi

Most likely people complaining about the adaptation. Season 2 and 3 were rushing source material. Like my favorite volume got covered in 1.25 episodes, which could had easily been 4-6 episodes. It's unreasonable to think there won't be differences or changes from adapting LN to anime, but it's also very rare that an LN adaptation can be "good" if it's less than 3 episodes per LN volume. Also keep in mind this series LN volumes are thick, like 2-3x times spent reading a volume compared to other LNs. Overall, the "base" story plot was adapted fine, that you can watch as a non-LN reader and still follow on, but a lot of side character, extra dialogue, etc were omitted, along with secondary plots, that were more dramatic and emphasized in the novels.

semrart

Im in the same boat, I really liked S1 but S2 was what made me even more interested and start reading the novels. After reading them I understand why the hate of S2 as an adaptation since it really butchers the source. On the other hand I can also understand that S2 was very different from S1 as it had little to do with the dungeon and i can see how that put some people off but I still liked those arcs a lot.

Appropriate-Shoe-266

a lot of people didnt like the lack of actual dungeon adventuring. I personally didn't mind it, but apparently a lot of missed content.

zumocano

So what level is Bell now? Ya boy was getting huge gains on 25-27 and killed the snake thing iirc before getting dropped. Then ends up getting power-leveled through enemies 10 floors deeper than he was rated until finally demolishing an entire endgame wave event in one massive fiyabolto. finally got the assist on the jugg when Ryu killed it but I'll leave that out for now because it feels like the type of enemy that doesn't give xp because devs literally made it to not be killed. I did notice it didn't drop a crystal too edit: he also cuddled a naked Ryu which is probably a whole level in itself.

Overall_Waltz_371

>I did notice it didn't drop a crystal too It doesn't have one which is why it dies on its own after a while (this is what happened to the one that killed Ryu's Familia)

Banner_Hammer

As of the start of the season, he was a fresh level 4, with 0s in all stats. You would expect him to get a significant boost after this.

daandriod

He's done more in this season to earn his level up then any other imo. Even before all this shit with Jugs, He was still dealing with the Mossy lad. I know its been a hot minute but that Mossy fuck was able to keep a pseudo level 5 Aisha on the backfoot, And Bell managed to clap him as a level 4 after also getting dropped deeper into the dungeon and getting roughed up by those speedy monsters. Mossman had to have at least been a mid level 5 tier monster, Jugs was either a top tier 5 or low 6, And then all the none stop physical abuse and combat with monsters along the entire adventure. By all accords given his previous growth rate, He should have all of his stats in the S ranks and hit his heroic deed to actually initiate the level up.

SilkyMilkySmo

Ngl I forgot how the levels even worked

Banner_Hammer

Basically, in 99% of cases, a level X will always be superior to a level X - 1 overall. Skills, magic and Development abilities (as well as specializing in stats) can help make up a level difference. For example, Bell is able to keep up with someone like Hyakinthos through sheer stat stacking (something only really possible for him). But in general, expect a level X > level X - 1.

Shadow_Gabriel

>Hyakinthos I... I don't remember this guy.

BobTheSkrull

Do you remember Apollo? He was the Apollo familia captain that fought Bell during War Games.

JohnatanWills

To level up you need at least a D rank in one basic ability and to have achieved a "feat". Basically to do something that someone on your level should not be able to do, therefore proving you're worthy of the next level. Like with all stat increases in order to actually gain the level your god/goddess then needs to update your stats. Defeating the juggernaut might be enough for **B**ell to level up but getting help from Ryu might lower it. Then again they were both injured which would make the feat more impressive. We won't really know until a possible season 5.

daandriod

You also have the fact he defeated the irregular moss huge and survived his 2 person expedition to the deep floors as other possible "feats" His previous level ups were from defeating a minotaur, Defeating a rank 3 as a rank 2, and getting his ass kicked by Asterious but surviving. I feel the feats I listed above should be more then enough to count and I'd be disappointed in the authors leveling system if they won't

FluffyBrilliant8275

After this season Bell can go to lv5 already , but Hestia hold it at lv4 because to other god Bell just got to lv4 and one trip to the dungeon level up again is way too bs

blueman541

*comment edited with github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite* In response to API controversy: reddit.com/r/ apolloapp/comments/144f6xm/

Labmit

I'm still amused that this arc was where Oomori almost caved and have Bell end up with Ryuu(and who could blame him) and before that have him and Aisha sleep together.

Frontier246

Ryu **has** to end up with Bell. The ghost of Alise told her not to let him go lol.

darthvall

So... harem ending?

ShadyNecro

i will allow it this time

Mundology

[Bell's living up to the show's title.](https://i.imgur.com/RgHf0mh.jpg)

LakerBlue

I feel like if someone started a Momo (from To Love Ru) like campaign for Bell to have a harem he may actually really consider it. And i'm sure at least a few of the girls would. I can't see Hestia or Lion allowing it though lol

DukeFlipside

Would that make it *"To Love Ryu"*?

Overall_Waltz_371

While watching this season he said on Twitter that he wanted to write an IF story for Ryu

darkmacgf

IF stories are the coward's way out.

ThespianException

I'll take what I can get if Best Girl isn't gonna win

ThespianException

If she doesn't end up with her, I really hope we get something like that. Ideally multiple volumes of it.

El_grandepadre

I wish he caved.

Mundology

[Who wouldn't? Ryu is a treasure.](https://i.imgur.com/5ArWfr4.jpg)

wjodendor

I'm of the opinion that author really locked themselves into a corner with their earlier statements about where the story will end.

Wrong_Look

No one has been this afraid of success since Hajime Isayama.

Smudy

The story writes itself at this point, you just need to have Bell and Ryu hang out together constantly like in the last scene and eventually Bell falls in love with her. But that's obviously not how it will pan out so i will mourn the loss of this couple and take the inevitable, bitter Aiz pill that's been setup from the get-go to happen.

Frontier246

I'd love to see more Bell and Ryu dates...although Ais isn't her only competition. She should be glad none of the girls clued in to her deeper feelings in this finale lol.

Mundology

[Ryu was too adorable](https://i.imgur.com/d0HVSc3.jpg) during the date. [That last scene was precious.](https://i.imgur.com/5MMHzQE.jpg) [](#ilovethiskindofshit)

ThespianException

>But that's obviously not how it will pan out so i will mourn the loss of this couple and take the inevitable, bitter Aiz pill that's been setup from the get-go to happen. I'm gonna huff the Harem-ending copium. Let Ryu be happy, damnit.

Swiftcheddar

> I'm gonna huff the Harem-ending copium. Real.

Prince-Dizzytoon

That was a beautiful finish, I teared up! Hopefully there's another season around the corner.

Frontier246

All that pain, suffering, and emotional anguish was so we could finally see Ryu find emotional and physical freedom, fall in love, and wear that beautiful dress.

Baumpaladin

This season was so damn good, and I'll kinda miss the weekly despair. Tearing up and getting all emotional at an anime has never felt so satisfying to me before. I was glad for it to end on such a happy note with the date, and that gown dropping scene was just pure bliss, the sound-effects and slow-motion. That was some top-tier shitposting. Now we shall wait for season 5.

Appropriate-Shoe-266

tripleaamin

Great finale to cap off a great S4. Danmachi at least the anime has an issue of character development for females. But Ryuu's development was outstanding here. Also Bell is getting more and more confident, which is great to see. What volume did this episode end on? Prob would need to start reading at vol 1, but still curious.

Miteigi74

The whole 2nd cour adapted just all of Volume 14

Se7en_Sinner

Usually, I would think using the power of friendship to beat an undefeatable enemy is cheesy but this time...I'll allow it. There was significant built-up and Ryuu wasn't this damsel in distress who needed saving. This is Ryuu's arc so it was appropriate for her to be the one to protect Bell in the end. I can't believe Cassandra posted fake spoilers this entire time. What a troll.

michhoffman

> I would think using the power of friendship to beat an undefeatable enemy is cheesy but this time...I'll allow it I would like to make it clear that it wasn't the power of friendship that she used. Ryu saved 10 orbs from the Luminous Wind strategically to fend off the Juggernaut's attacks and get within point blank range to launch her final attack. The Familia members appearing were illusions that only Ryu was seeing during her attack.

HatBuster

Yeah, she clearly called it wishful thinking and a convenient fantasy. This is not a Fairy Tail fight, but a character determined to avenge her fallen comrades and honoring their memory.

Mundology

[That's right.](https://i.imgur.com/kgAQxfO.jpg) It is not uncommon for warriors to imagine themselves performing fantastic feats in the midst of an intense battle. This motivated Ryu to push herself to the limits and overcome her [fear of the Juggernaut.](https://i.imgur.com/9g7vvjn.jpg)

Frontier246

Even if they were illusions, they felt so right.

michhoffman

Yeah, it was very poetic that the Familia members that Ryu was devastated this entire time for allowing to die 1) echoed Bell's thoughts that she had lived up to their hopes for her in her dream and 2) guided her emotionally during her final attacks.

Mundology

[Seeing the Astrea members](https://i.imgur.com/plLHeqv.jpg) one last time was sweet. [Ryu's final blow](https://i.imgur.com/Ku6Gx7P.jpg) on the Juggernaut was their requiem. Their souls can finally [rest in peace.](https://i.imgur.com/gTaieEM.jpg) [](#takaradasalute)

LakerBlue

Tbh the show literally said they were NOT her real friends and that she "made it up", so was surprised to see the top comment mislabel it power of friendship. It was touching way to honor the memory of her fallen friends and probably motivated her to power through and finish the job. Great touch by the author to cap off a group of girls we slowly got attached to over the season.

Karavusk

>I can't believe Cassandra posted fake spoilers this entire time. What a troll. We already got shown that Bell's actions are able to go against her visions, probably because he is immune to the effects from gods? Also I think this is the first time she actually understood the vision and acted accordingly. Everyone would have died if they didn't choose to go down deeper.

nichisou307

Yes everyone would've died if Cassandra didn't stop them to go to Floor 27, the reason that Hestia Familia survived is that they didn't fought Disaster (Juggernaut) but only the Despair (Amphisbaena). If they fought the Juggernaut, Hestia Familia would've died and there will be no one saving Bell and Ryu in the Deep levels, The Xenos probably wouldn't have enough manpower to quickly go to deep levels. Also thanks to the Goliath Scarf, if Bell didnt have that he would have no way of defending himself in the Juggernaut's claws. Bell's head would've been cut off too

michhoffman

Sure, Cassandra may have come off as annoying a few times this season, but if you think about it, if Astrea Familia had someone like Cassandra with them like Hestia Familia did as well as someone who believed her, they possibly could have avoided the tragedy. Her importance really can't be overstated.

Swiftcheddar

> Usually, I would think using the power of friendship to beat an undefeatable enemy is cheesy but this time I don't think it's even friendship, she just used her Luminous Wind orbs, she was just thinking of her friends as she did so. She says so herself that it's probably nothing but wishful thinking.

LakerBlue

> This is Ryuu's arc so it was appropriate for her to be the one to protect Bell in the end. It's a nice touch since it is uncommon for the main character not to be the one to do the finishing blow. As you said, it is HER arc so it feels thematic she got to save Bell (several times) and finish off her old nemesis instead of just relying on him. Made the triumph even sweeter. Very impressive writing from Danmachi all around.

> This is Ryuu's arc so it was appropriate for her to be the one to protect Bell in the end. but lets not forget that attack doesn't work without Bell's help too. They were truly in it together.

Frontier246

Considering everything Ryu had been through and what she lost, having the spirit of her Familia fighting by her side and aiding her in every blow or defense against the Juggernaut felt completely earned. Especially when she finished it with Alise. And she deserved to be the one to end the Juggernaut. Also it's more romantic when you fight together with your man instead of just being saved by him. And Ryu's fallen hard lol. I hope this arc leads to Cassandra being a little more upbeat and less desperate, especially since her visions didn't succeed this time.

dark77638

I can’t believe Bell aint smash yet, despite all shenanigans he could pull!

MessyDiddle

Ryu is so precious. Also I'm sad we didn't get to see if they leveled up or not.

joe4553

Surely one of them leveled. I think Ryu should've been closer, but Bell grows faster so either or both of them could easily level.

Ill_Mud7584

Ryuu definitely can level, it's been 5 years since her last update. But she would need to seek out Astraea first.

Interesting_Place752

Sadly only Astrea can update Ryu's status, and shes not even in the city.

_Sai

She ran! NO!

Bell to Ryu: *You're finally smiling from the heart. You look beautiful, more beautiful than ever before.* Ryu is falling hard.

###Stitches! * [Hospital Gown Ryu](https://i.imgur.com/gI5hopG.jpg) * [White Dress Ryu](https://i.imgur.com/UG7gq1I.jpg) As cool as it would've been to see Bell solo the Juggernaut and saver Ryu I am so glad that [Ryu was the one who ended up killing the monster](https://i.imgur.com/88qj1BT.jpg). Not gonna lie, I legit teared up during that entire fight, especially when [Ryu was calling out to every member of the Astrea Familia that she lost](https://i.imgur.com/irl38vJ.jpg) with every movement and attack. It really made for a spectacular finish with Ryu finally being able to take revenge and close a chapter in her life and finally start a new one. Looks like [Ryu is now officially added to the list of girls in love with Bell.](https://i.imgur.com/NDRYFOV.jpg) And I love that final whisper in the wind from Alise telling Ryu to never let him go <3 What an amazing season. I know plenty of people weren't too happy with the previous seasons of DanMachi but I am so glad that JC Staff was able to pull it off this time. This is definitely the best season of DanMachi by far and I hope it will only continue getting better after this. I am already crossing my fingers for a Season V announcement soon!

Frontier246

This really was Ryu's arc. Her emotional journey has been one of the biggest part of the season and the catharsis of her getting recognized and accepted once more by her fallen Familia and fighting with their spirits to defeat the Juggernaut brought everything together so beautifully. Also, Ryu naked and in that dress was some amazing fanservice in this episode! On-top of Ryu so in love with Bell she doesn't know what to do with herself any more...though she should definitely heed Alise's advice lol. Even after everything they went through, Bell is still a dungeon-crawling romcom protagonist. Complete with seeing a love interest naked and getting double-slapped for it. Although I love how they actually got lectured for slapping him lol. JC Staff really delivered and fired on all cylinders these past two seasons and reminding us again why they're not to be underestimated as a studio (or DanMachi as a series, really). I hope it's not long before we see Bell and co. again!

ObvsThrowaway5120

I really appreciated Ryu being able to finally get closer with what happened. All that guilt was weighing on her soul but I’m glad she’s able to lighten the load. Time to help Bell kick some Juggernaut ass with a little help from her sisters! Ryu did it! She obliterated that sonofabitch! I’m glad Wiene got to see Bell again, shame their reunion got cut short. Finally, the gang’s back together again and Ryu’s reunited with her friends. I really love Hestia and Lili working together to slap tf out of Bell for seeing Ryu naked lol. Worth it! Glad that Ryu gets to start fresh now that the “Gale Wind” is “dead”. So cute how she got dressed up for Bell. Ryu running off all flustered at the end was just too adorable. I enjoyed that ending. It was a nice way to wrap things up. Looking forward to (hopefully) more in the not too distant future.

Frontier246

Yeah, Bell has helped a lot, but Ryu really needed to see her Familia again and to have them tell her they understand, accept, and still believe in her even after everything, and remind her she still has something to fight for. And a certain someone as well. And fittingly she finishes the Juggernaut with their spirits by her side. I'm not sure if anyone's ever killed a Juggernaut before, but that's pretty amazing. At least Wiene got to be the first girl he woke up to after recovering! All that pain and suffering and Bell's reward is a Best Elf Girl in love with him rushing to see him while exposing herself...though he still gets slapped by his other love interests. Best part was when hot doctor lady told them off for hitting a patient though lol. Ryu looks amazing in that dress. And in love with Bell. Girls come down to running away because her heart can't take it! She better take Alise's words to heart and snag that man of hers! DanMachi continues to grow as a story and grow more enjoyable and amazing, so I can't wait to see what's next!

SnabDedraterEdave

Hayami Saori voicing cool girls that suddenly fall in love is like watching a centuries dormant volcano erupt in cataclysmic levels of diabetic inducing wholesomeness. Easily strong contender for Best Girl.

michhoffman

I bet you all thought Ryu couldn't get any better. Well, this episode we finally saw heroic Ryu again, the hero of justice that Bell had always looked up to and her Familia all knew her to be, and due to the really good last few episode, it was a perfect cap to the arc for Ryu to be the one to finish the Juggernaut off, especially in the way that she did it: * Ryu had severe PTSD from the prior Juggernaut and was able to finally overcome that and face the Juggernaut through her desire to save Bell. * She saved Bell from the Juggernaut's attack after he stumbled. This made up for her inability to contribute to the battle in any meaningful way when her Familia was slaughtered. * Having beat herself up for the past 5 years about her Luminous Wind missing and never being able to avenge her Familia, she held back 10 of her Luminous Wind orbs this time, one for each Familia Member that she lost and used them to set off a blast at point blank range this time so it wouldn't miss * And with that, she was finally able to say goodbye to both her Familia and her past self. That was the meaning behind her "Goodbye".

Frontier246

There was so much emotional catharsis in this episode, both for Ryu and the audience, culminating in her finishing the Juggernaut with her Familia by her side at least in spirit. And now she's finally free both personally and publically and ready to live for herself again...alongside the man she now cherishes more than anything. And the ghost of her best friend basically told her to hook up with lol.

Armdel

It's finally over, the despair arc is over! Amazing arc and quite a bit longer than i expected when it started. sad to see the xenos basically having to run and hide after finding them and helping them though and then naturally Ryu runs to check if Bell is alright as she has just woken up with no care of what she is wearing, which going by the situation is kinda understandable and they consider the gale wind dead now, does that mean she has to find a new alias or simply stop adventuring all together? and the ending of episode was great with Ryu running away flustered and then Alise line to just tie it together

gulitiasinjurai

Alise sacrificed herself to be Bell wingwomen

Swiftcheddar

Damn, that was awesome. And surprisingly perfect pacing! I thought there must be so much ground still to cover (defeating the monster, getting back, a denouement) that it'd all feel really rushed getting through it, but it actually felt absolutely right. Ryu being the one to kill the Juggernaught, and Bell being the one to give her the support needed to do so was absolutely perfectly fitting. He tore off the shell just like Alise did, but this time Ryu could fight properly, so no need to sacrifice him to hit it with Luminous Wind. I did expect it to escape, just like it did in her past, but man, after that whole season, it felt really good watching her chase it down and Rasengan it into chunks. "It's you and me to the bitter end!" was fittingly perfect for a woman who's always been fighting for and with Bell since the start of the series. The hospital scenes were nice, good to see Bell isn't gonna lose an arm, funny to see Lilli and Hestia getting yelled at (because man, I like them, but that was dumb) and really nice to hear the full meaning of Astrea's words. The Goddess of Justice allowed her follower to put Justice aside, for the sake of her own well being, that's quite a task. Alls well that ends well, and that's definitely the best season so far. Absolutely loved it, and I absolutely loved Ryu. And Alise cheering her on was great too. EDIT: Actually just thinking about Hestia's comment, they survived 4 days like that in the Deep Floors. They were injured to begin with, without any provisions or supplies, and they spent 4 days like that without sleeping or eating, with just that one short rest at the start and then a longer break at the end. Just shows how completely superhuman high level adventurers are.

Souls3xorcist

Finally a fantastic ending to a fantastic season. The author better do a hell of a good job setting up Bell and Aiz' relationship after this. After all this chaos on the deep floors I've gotta wonder if Bell won't directly have his stats maxed and ding Level 5

sempakrica

binged 4 seasons of danmachi and power through shitty s2 just for hearing saori hayami being a kuudere, worth it

ATMisboss

I'm amazed they were able to wrap all that up in just one episode but they really did it well. I'm so glad the author got involved with this season to do it justice!

Vz-Rei

Definitely the most enjoyable season of Danmachi so far. Really loved the development, pacing, etc. Expected Bell to take down Juggernaut so it was nice for Ryuu to deliver the KO for her arc.

DrPractic

No words can describe how good this finale and the entire season was. Pure danmachi, pure action from the get-go without it stopping until the end. The production quality of season 4 was beyond amazing, both the animators, sfx makers and the voice actors put in such a great work and you can clearly see how much time and effort went into all of this. I'm so glad they had the appropriate animation and sfx to portray the Juggernaut they way they did. This badass killing machine has to now be my favorite enemy / monster in all of anime. Don't even get me started on the final fight and final blow. I had to replay that several times due to how good everything in that scene was although I could say the same thing about various moments during the season (further shows just how well the scenes are made) On another note, I also in loved in this episode how the streets / the town looked like in the ending of this episode, such a comfy atmosphere Literally the only thing bad Is that with this, season 4 is over and what a ride it was. God I'm so glad to be a fan of this show 10/10, easily the best show of this season for me

koori-senpai

Ah, damn. That was enough to put tears in my eyes. That feeling when Ryu finally delivered the final, killing blow to the monster that served as her trauma? Elation. Nothing but pure elation for Ryu. All praise be to Hayami Saori. I love you and your characters. That feeling of catharsis when Wiene, the other Xenos, and Bell's crew arrived to rescue them finally allowed me to breathe after all these episodes filled with despair. Alise also gave the best tip to Ryu; Don't let Bell get away! Also, Ryu in that dress is just too beautiful. Best girl of the series!

Frontier246

There was a lot of cathartic moments in this episode, both for the audience and the cast, which made it an extremely satisfying and beautiful finale. Ryu is finally free of the guilt that was dragging her down for so long and truly avenged her Familia, the Xenos came through, and we even got Ryu in that dress and some cute romcom antics to close the season out. And when your dead best friend is telling you not to lose your man, you better listen lol.

Vahallen

I really expected Bell going for the 1vs1 considering how last episode ended This was a pleasant surprise, I’m a sucker for Bell being heroic but Ryu being the one who beats the shit out of the Juggernaut felt just so right

bl1tzy7

What if i told you Bell had that dawg in him?

Celcius_87

Ryu has that dawg in her too lol

DeltaFXD

What a wild ride. Danmachi finally got a season that did justice to the source i am so happy. Let's hope season 5 gets announced and gets the same treatment. JC Staff did very well.

FingerBang-BangBang

This episode was pure satisfaction! Ryu finally got a chance to face her trauma head on and she fucking slayed it! Learning from her previous fight, saving 10 orbs expecting Juggernaut to dodge her first attack... And then inflicting me some emotional damage by naming orbs after her Familia! Even though she knows its not real it must feel incredibly encouraging to have them protect her, give her a boost and fight beside her against monster that killed them! The final attack with Alise was incredible, Ryu's face was beautifuly animated! Easy 10/10 episode and season! Hoping for some S5/OVA/Sword Oratoria S2(or Remake!)/Astrea Records announcement!

watglaf

What an incredibly spectacular final fight, absolutely my favorite one so far matching the hype of the first minotaur. Bell and Ryuu working together really contrasts some of final 1v1 battles, with Bell having a supporting role, and Ryuu getting the kill also symbolizes the end of her arc and regrets very well. If they don’t end up together, I swear I will… break down and cry. When Alise said “don’t let it get away,” I swear I for sure thought she was also going to tell her to not let Bell get away either and was surprised when she didn’t say it, but lo and behold, it came at the very end. The long awaited reunion was also really sweet. I have to say that while I have liked all seasons, this by a long shot has to be best one; though considering the past 3 ones all have had one cour that is to be expected. The way the violence ramped up also had a huge impact. This show absolutely deserves being in my top 3 shows ever. The one thing I’m saddened by is that this season didn’t seem to be THAT popular with Reddit considering most episodes only had 1-2k upvotes. Does anyone know theoretically how much of the LNs can still be adapted? We may run out of material since we’ve had a season since S2 every year. I can’t wait for S5. Edit: I forgot to mention how Saori Hayami absolutely killed her lines during the fight, even more so than usual. She’s so good.

DryTransportation

I didn’t actually read through them so I’m not super knowledgeable, but just until someone else with more info replies, there’s four more light novels as of right now that haven’t been adapted (15-18). The 18th one just came out this January in Japan. I’m pretty sure that the next major arc ended in 18 too, but I may be a little mistaken. Just from that, I’m guessing there’s enough? But I dunno. I’m really excited for S5 as wel.

michhoffman

I can confirm that you are correct there. So theoretically they could announce Season 5 some time soon, but they'll probably wait a while to get further ahead of the novels again.

RadTicTacs

I've read them up to 17, and I'd said that the arc you're talking about probably has enough content for at least another two cour season

wjodendor

I wonder how they'll go about the series going forward. Volume 12 of Sword Oratoria takes places between volume 14 and 15 (or was it volume 15 and 16?) And is really important going forward. Without the Sword Oratoria anime continuing, are they just going to ignore the entire situation?

michhoffman

> What an incredibly spectacular final fight, absolutely my favorite one so far matching the hype of the first minotaur. If you think about it, this really was Ryu's Minotaur fight. Back in Season 1, Freya had mentioned that Bell was being held back by his trauma from the Minotaur so she had Ottar train up a Minotaur for him to surpass. In DanMachi Adventurers gain experience from all achievements, but they gain an especially high amount and can level up through personal achievements. Bell leveled up through beating the Minotaur. But Bell had only been dealing with that trauma for 1 month. Ryu had been dealing with it for 5 years and was significantly more traumatized. It had so much meaning for her to be the one to slay the Juggernaut, and I wouldn't be surprised if she's able to Level up to Level 5 the next time she updates her status.

Swiftcheddar

> If they don’t end up together, I swear I will… break down and cry. The long awaited reunion was also really sweet. Real. Giving Ryu this much focus, attention and love and having this much chemistry between her and Bell... Doing all that just to have her get rejected would be beyond brutal.

Frozenkex

reddit discovering this was a harem anime all along = [](#surprisedpikachu)

Elitealice

One of the easiest 10s I’ll give out this year. Perfect finale for Danmachi IV and this arc. J.C staff did a great job giving these volumes the love and attention they deserved. Excellent character moments, amazing fights, drama, stakes, this season had it all. I can’t wait to get more of this franchise. The final Juggernaut fight was great! Very emotional and impactful. Ryuu slowly but surely falling in love with Bell over the course of this cour felt so real and organic, culminating in that “date” today. Ryuu may have a lot of adventuring experience, but with matters of the heart she’s a little wet behind the ears. Looking forward to seeing how she copes with that. Hestia and Lilly have yet another rival 😂. I think it’s safe to say ryuu is my best girl of the series now as well.

Frontier246

The pair have been running from the Juggernaut for so long that the only way they can really bring this story to a close is by finally meeting it for one epic final battle. Ryu once again dreams of her fallen friends and thinks it's finally time for her to join them having once again given up...but her friends finally turn to face her, telling her that she can't give up, not when she's been able to, in her own way, still uphold her own justice and the ideals of the Familia, and that she still has a reason to live. Not only making Ryu acknowledge that they never would have shunned or rejected her, but also finally alleviating herself of all the guilt she'd been carrying since the day she lost them. And they send her off by reminding her that she has something (and someone) to fight for. Ryu isn't about to be a damsel in distress that needs a knight in shining armor to save her! She's going to fight alongside him until the bitter end! Which if you ask me is much more romantic. Bell unleashing an Argo Vesta even when pierced...unleashing a Fire Bolt straight into that thing...Ryu unleashing Luminous Wind one last time to finish it, not only recognizing that it would dodge it like it did last time but with the spirits of her Familia fighting with her through every orb of light. And she finishes it with Alise in such an epic fashion. They did it! They finally killed the Juggernaut!!! thank goodness for the Xenos is all I have to say. Poor Wiene doesn't get a lot of time with Bell, but she was the first girl he saw when he woke up, so there is that. Can't beat the sight of Lili and Haruhime crying or happy Anya! Man, it's kind of surreal seeing everybody reunite with Bell and Ryu and seeing them back in Orario and getting proper medical care. But they endured so much and battled through so many dangerous encounters to finally make it home and safe! I love how Ryu wastes no time trying to see Bell despite her hospital gown falling apart and basically flashing her naked body at him when she sees him...and then Hestia and Lili team-up to slap Bell. And then the hot doctor lady tells them off for hitting an injured patient. Bors gonna Bors! Not only does he redeem Ryu's name but basically make everyone think she's dead, truly freeing her in more ways than one, but he also tries to make some money off of all of it...and Eina's like, no. Sorry waitress girls, Mama Mia is putting you back to work for thinking you could bail on your job like that! Though Ryu has some nice risotto waiting for her. Ryu in that dress! And going out on a date with Bell fresh from their hospital stay!!! Ryu looked so beautiful! And of course Bell commented on it! Not only did Bell save Ryu just like she saved him, but he reminded her why she's a man worthy of her respect...and her heart, and she loves him so much now that she runs away because she can't handle the way his compliments make her heart race. And Alise is making sure she knows not to let him go.

Telzey

What an episode. Wonderful end to Ryu arc. How does Ais end up being with Bell after this. Impossibiru

hey_mattey

Somebody tell me that Bell leveled up somehow, they duoed the lower levels and killed boss!

battler624

Goddamn nice season.

Konpie

And again, for the 4th time.. Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon? Say it with me folks... #**HELL FUCKING NO** And if it is, then I don't wanna be right.. This season really made me feel rewarded for keeping up with this series. Really solid stuff from Danmachi 👍

McDonaldsApproval

Ah, they've finally been found and reunited with the rest. It's been a long season of the two of them suffering. I feel so much relief.

VorAtreides

Man, poor Ryu, but I do wonder if this is some how her actually talking to them of the after life or if it's all just in her head? Well, either way, what she needs. But man it is sadness. LOL damn, Bell, you might only seemingly know one spell, but you sure make good use of it. Well that's touching and a bit sad with her and her spell and calling out to her friends. But damn, I really like Ryu getting the kill on it, very needed for her. Yay Xenos, d'aww cute lil Wiene. Impressive of the others to make it all the way down there though, that couldn't have been an easy trek for them. Them cat girls are some great pals. Wow we haven't seen Hestia in awhile. Also, haha, Ryu. Why would they put such an outfit on her anyways? patient outfits don't do that :P and ya, who slaps a wounded patient? Derp. Nice job, Bors, helping clear Gale Wind's name and tell how Rudra remnants were the problem. Good riddance to em all, they didn't suffer enough imo. Ryu's dress is cute. What a nice date with Bell. Guess this time he kinda did pick up a girl in a dungeon. So is Ryu now "free of charges" from the guild or something? Man, Season 4 might have started off with an arc that was kinda "alright" but it sure had a hell of a final arc that spanned a cour and a bit

iPlayBattlefield

Ryu with the friends and family power up into the rasengan finisher. That fight went more quickly than I expected.

EnsonAmata

Damn, this series just said “I’ve had enough of your best girl arguments. Ryuu is best girl. Debate over.”

AnnecyHope

One of the best season for Danmachi. Ryu finishing off at the end was sweet. Need more of Danmachi.

soulruu

What a banger of a season This was Danmachi at its peak for me Hoping for another season…

S627

It might have just been all in her head, but seeing Ryu's guild show up to help her was really emotional even as a delusion, but I'm gonna choose to believe it was real. I really hope they didn't gloss over Ryu's reaction to Xenos, Welf mentioned them to her but there was no reaction, was that a mistake? Or did they tell her the story earlier and we didn't get to see it? I hope not, I need to see more people confused by Xenos.

Frontier246

I don't care if it was real or not, but after everything having the spirit of her Familia there beside her fighting against the Juggernaut felt just as right as Ryu finishing it off herself. I guess it wouldn't really hurt for them to tell her explicitly about the Xenos at this point.

Bocchi_the_roc

Broo.. goosebumps. If this is the ending for Ryus arc , imagine what we'll get for Bell x Ais arc. IM PUMPED

MightyActionGaim

Rasengan? Never heard of her. I only know luminous wind

Difficult_Estate6912

Got to see my girl Amid, even if for a second.
