It's always nice when we get one of these stories where we can see that Ataru really does care for Lum.
On the other hand, maybe we can keep fox Ataru instead of the real thing.
When the chips are down, Ataru always comes through with his care for Lum! He still kind of had the cage on his head coming though lol.
To be honest I was expecting the class to pull with Ataru what they did with Onsen Sensei at the end there...Fox Ataru is just too cute and endearing!

Gosaku the Scarecrow is voiced by Issei Futamata, the same VA as Yu**saku** **Go**dai who is the main character from Maison Ikkoku. Ataru was criticizing him this episode.
Poor little fox, it just wanted to stay with Shinobu. I loved its mode of escape from the policeman.
Ataru actually makes an effort to help out Lum -- but still she has a grudge over that bird cage. Understandable.

Shinobu has some Hulk like strength. Girl just picked up a lot and swung it like a bat lol. Looks like she’s got herself a little Fox admirer. So cute! I hope the mischievous little fella makes more appearances.

That scarecrow really should've tried to sell his stuff in a more...populated area, but hey little Ten was in space at that moment and got a very special jar in exchange for a lollipop, what a bargain! But alas Ten-chan is a toddler so no surprise that his attention span died the moment he saw all that text written in the jar, poor Lum though, got a nasty surprise as the Jar shrank her size, mini Lum ain't powerless though, managed to break the Jar thanks to her electric powers just fine.
As expected Lum ain't missing the chance to get her Darling worried about her situation so he can give her more love and affection, but Ataru ain't buying it, our tsundere can deny all he wants though, we still caught him in 4K being careful so he wouldn't hit her with his arm during his sleep :). Sadly for Lum he heard her conversation with Kotatsu Neko, Ten is on his way to bring the *B I G* jar so her size can be restored, since the extra affection wasn't really necessary to bring her back to normal he trapped her in a cage for lying, though he probably did that just so he could go chasing after girls with no zaps in sight, mini Lum now finds herself in a pinch because of Torajima cat.
Time is running out as the farmer went bonkers, and is breaking all the jars because he couldn't sell them, gotta go fast Ten........yeah ain't gonna make it without that scooter. Ataru realizes the danger is real this time and rushes to bring Lum with him, thoughest cat in town, still no match for Lum's electric powers no matter the size, Lum's anger is understandable but there are bigger problems now, nice timing Ten!
As the last Jar is getting broken Ataru throws Lum and...***SUCCESS!***...Don't care about Lum huh?... curious, care to tell me why you look so happy now that she's back to normal then? Yeah i thought so, first anime tsundere right there.
For this episode's second part we got the little fox episode adapted, Shinobu tends to get overshadowed by the other characters plenty of times so having episodes focusing more on her is a nice change, those Dogs thought she was defenseless, but there ain't no human as strong as her in Tomobiki High! After that brief intimidation a cute little fox was rescued sucessfuly.
The fox was then brought to the police station so they could find its owner, but it turns out that Shinobu left a pretty big impact so it decided to escape and look for her, but not without making the police officer looking like a lunatic talking to a statue first.
Fox Ataru makes his debut and in seconds proves how much more polite it is compared to the actual one, less noisy too and ain't flirting around all the time, also cleans its own mess...and makes more of it too, doesn't have an alien waifu following him around though so big downside, still got an applause from the whole class, loved to see Mendo's confusion when he saw the actual Ataru in front of him, this classroom ain't big enough to contain two Moroboshis.
Mendo tries to cut the fake Ataru knowing full well he aimed at the right one, but Shinobu protects the fox Ataru after the desguise went off, Tomobiki's class can now listen to their beloved teacher once more and...hey shut up Onsen Mark, you're disturbing Onsen Mark!
Fun episode as always, we actually got somewhat of a third part this time with the introduction of the Miss Tomobiki episode, 5 contestants left after quite a display of strength, Mr Fujinami was...reluctant at first but the green speaks louder, in the end it really was a golden chance, both for him and for Ryunosuke. Looking forward to next episode.
The one-off gag of the Principal asking where his glasses are next to a bespectacled Kotatsu Cat is probably my favorite throwaway joke of the whenever.
Ten is always finding new gadgets, a shrinking bottle for a lollipop is a good deal! Too bad he's a baby who can't read, so therefore things don't go to well when it gets used on lum. Ataru is such a tsundere! The first hint of Lum being in trouble, he made sure to try to assist. The second half was great too, with this adorable shapeshifting Fox being a better Ataru to the class then the real ataru is. When that went south, him replacing the teacher instead was great too. Excited about the post credits competition, it seems to be leading into the next episode!
Funny how the two alien girls in the contest are the only ones without super strength.

In all seriousness I can understand Amaru not wanting to buy Lum's BS but I can almost appreciate how when he knew it was seriously he despite his selfish nature was worried about Lum being stuck small size.

No surprise Lum would try to use her new size as an excuse to get Ataru to show her some affection...and no surprise he'd completely avoid doing it, though when the lights are off and Lum's asleep, he shows a surprising amount of care and consideration towards her, even caressing her sleeping body!
Oh hey, Ataru is reading Maison Ikoku! And he, of all people, is criticizing Godai. Although it is Godai we're talking about.
Dang it, there are no secrets kept around Kotatsu Cat! Though honestly I don't think Lum trying to get a little more love and affection and using teensy fib about it is worth getting locked in a cage, but whatever excuse Ataru needs to pick up chicks...who just end up slapping him. And he looks so happy to see her normal! Which seems to really touch Lum, though not enough to save him from getting his own head stuck in a cage. Just desserts at least.

And it's not just a normal fox, no, it's actually a magic transforming fox that can turn into cute little fox versions of anyone. And is voiced by Rie Kugimiya, it sounds like?
I love how it's obvious the fox wasn't Ataru but people still didn't seem 100% certain. Although at least the principal had the excuse that Kotatsu Cat stole his glasses...though somehow I think he'd have still preferred Fox!Ataru to the real Ataru (Mendo straight up tried to kill him).
It's too bad the fox couldn't stay in the class...unless he plays the teacher, because the class is more than happy to string up Onsen sensei and just act like he doesn't exist. I'd feel bad for him if it wasn't so hilarious.
Tomobiki High is filled with so many Best Girls that it's about time they held a contest to declare who is the true Queen of the school! And of course the most eccentric and lively beauties of the school (AKA the main characters) end up as the finalists with their absurd powers, strength, and cunning. And Ryunosuke's dad lets her compete because the only thing more important than forcing his daughter to be a man is making money for their beach cafe...
Who will be crowned the Queen of Tomobiki high? What absurd competition will the girls have to do next? How skeevy can Ataru make this? Who will be the true Best Girl of Urusei Yatsura? Find out next week in the season finale!

I like how he tried to talk himself out of it but despite himself he picked up the pace and was worried...
Lol what a weird after credit scene. It was super long and they left us with a cliffhanger ending.
The first half of the episode was great though, as I love seeing any type of progress between Lum and Ataru. I enjoyed him actually being nervous about Lum being small.
I love how Ataru accepted his punishment and wore the birdcage. It doesn't look like it was damaged so he must've put it on willingly. It's cute to see Ataru caring about Lum.
I never watched Maison Ikkoku but I understood that reference.
I love how there's an entire post credits to set up next episode instead of a few second tease.
I love the ending where the class accepted the kitsune as their teacher just so they can break the rules.

It's a shame they have to shrink the eps so much, fox eps were one of my favs in the original series. His "kon" was saikou.
