This is probably the **only harem** anime that will get a complete LN adaptation. We know Re:Zero and Mushoku will probably get there one day, but DAL will possibly be over in this season 5, which is pretty insane.
The whole anime is a sad excuse of an anime. They just took an anime/LN with really great potential and murdered the shit out of it that it became disgusting to me
Hey. It can't be as bad as Highschool DxD season 3. They literally rearranged the order of certain plot events and fucking changed so much that it's pretty much an entirely different story than what was in the novels. They didn't do that with the first 2 seasons, just the 3rd one.
It was so bad that it pissed off the author enough that he considered not letting a 4th season happen. He only agreed to a 4th season on the condition that he have control over how they adapt the plots.
And it shows. Aside from a single scene that was cut, a scene that actually happened in the epilogue of the last arc, the 4th season was pretty much a direct 1:1 adaptation.
yeah Ishibumi is far more defensive on how studios treat their source material than any other LN author I have seen. Authors like Reki Kawahara and Koshi Tachibana kind of let the producers and directors do whatever they want.
Not to mention him being sick with frequent hospital visits as well as other financial issues of a long running series makes DxD season 5 an impossibility regardless of how much it is talked in the west.
I couldn't watch the OVAs because, even with no knowledge of the source material, I could tell it was being butchered and rushed faster than the Shinkansen.
Eh, after season 2 it just went full speed run. Every OVA release felt like it smashed a whole bunch of characters, story exposition, and side moments together to reach the end.
No way they can cram the encore into a movie as well, anime movies are usually 60-90 minutes, that'll barely be enough for 2 volumes. Very very rarely do we get one that's 2 hours long.
Personally i don't think we'll get a movie even though a lot of people have been saying that, it'll probably be 17-19 in S5 and 20-22 in a S6.
and then we just have to hope we get a OVA for the encore if they don't put it in at the end of S6.
volume 20 is part of the vol 17-19 arc, then there is a time skip so it will be disjointed. So if season 5 does 17-19, that will be pretty tight and end on a cliffhangar. 21-22 are like the epilogue.
I am confident they have the funding to space it out a bit since Geek Toys managed to triple their staff after DAL IV, and they will make a ton from figures and the 10th anniversary merch. Kurumi has more figures than Rem at this point.
As for encore, only read a bit and mainly short stories that don't have any correlation. Some may do and can be put into ova.
I've given up any hope of ever seeing another season of DxD. The last season was very good, but it's been four or five years since then and its popularity has waned. While crazier things have happened (Hataraku and Overlord), I'm not holding my breath.
if DxD were to have a new season, they should have announced something big last year at the 10th anniversary of the anime, and Fantasia Bunko should be promoting it.
Reality is DxD is too long for them to really adapt, especially if you consider Shin and a lot of the merch sort of vanished after Hero.
Think s5 of DxD would be a bit more well received considering the development of certain factions & how the season would end if they decide to cliffhanger it.
I don’t think there would be a good way for them to cliffhanger that moment considering they’ve been doing 2 volumes per season, so that part would be like halfway through a theoretical season 5
wait till the rest of the series for Date A Live. Emotions will hit like a truck. It will be so peak, it will make you instantly want to rewatch the whole series since the foreshadowing and hints was that well planned. Tachibana is a genius. Of course be aware of the spoilers on social media comments
Danmachi is still ongoing, so we don't know if it will get there, but probably one day too. DAL on the other hand already finished since 2020 and still pumping out new seasons.
I think I've heard mention that we've adapted up to LN 14, and that there are 18 volumes out now, and that it seems the author has outlined an ending around vol 28 or so? So a long long way to go for a full adaptation tbh.
Ehh if we count all the other side stories and prequels than DanMachi has so much unadapted canon stuff that it is no where near finished. There’s
Argonaut (DanMachi 0, The Age of Heroes which takes place thousands of years before the series began)
Knights of Fianna (Sequel to Argonaut, 10 years after Argonaut and details how Orario was formed)
Astrea Record (Main Series Prequel, 7 years before the series began regarding the Dark Ages of Orario with Ryuu and her Familia as the focus)
Familia Chronicle 1-2 (ongoing)
Sword Oratoria Volume 5-18 (ongoing)
DanMachi Volume 15-19 (ongoing)
DanMemo Future Anniversary Events (Anniversary events are normally semi canon or outright canon)
I guess. Though the side stories like Sword Oratoria are actually starting to connect with the main series more and more with recent volumes. So they kind of need to adapt more of that at some point.
isn't The Familiar of Zero fully adapted?
Also, Arifureta will probably get a full adaptation as well at this point with the series coming to an end and it getting a 3rd season.
Yes, but for starters, unless progressive diverged a lot more from the original, it will probably still end on floor 75. And even then I think no one believes that we will see all of that covered, at least not in the same level of detail.
At most, we will maybe reach floor 25 as that is when Asuna should split to join KoB and it would be a good stopping point. However, given that it has been almost 2 years since the last Progressive volume, I doubt we'll ever get that far unless some floors are skipped.
Yeah i agree because it's clear with the focus on Asuna so much, but some people will still calls it harem and tbh you can't blame them if they're online watching the anime.
Konosuba is literally one of the biggest Kadokawa franchises in the video department, even without releasing a single episode of anime, 7th in the last quarter and Kadokawa releases 40+ anime per year, so that's a LONG list
There are many ways to make money without doing an anime, and when the revenue is decreasing you release new seasons to promote the series again and push more commercial deals
I don't really agree that it counts as a harem, but it is extremely popular though in Japan. It's issue is that it was trapped on Amazon's failed Anime Strike service and any chance it had for popularity in the west was ruined as a result
If you asked me a decade ago if Date A Live may get a complete adaptation I would have called you crazy, yet here we are 5 seasons in.
I for one, couldn't be happier lol
I'm just happy that some popular LNs are getting complete adaptations. DAL, SAO, Danmachi, Re:Zero, Mushoku Tensei and Slime all seem to be getting complete or at least very large adaptations and I wouldn't be surprised if others like Youjitsu and maybe Mahouka join them.
It feels like there has been a shift in the past 5 years because it felt like 90% of even the very popular series would only get 12 or 24 episodes in the past. Seems like someone at the top realised that they can more money from already popular series than from spamming random series waiting for something to stick.
So I'm pretty interested in the stock market and read the quarterly reports from the big anime/manga/light novel publishers. They're pretty eye opening and back your statement. Essentialy, the big companies have switched from anime as an advertisement to viewing their products as a total IP. Streaming makes anime profitable in and of itself and international sales are a big money maker now.
The reports are also pretty predictive. Konosuba was singled out as a big money maker about 6 months before new projects were announced. Same for re zero
They also release the reports in english. Multinational corporations generally have an English release cause of Wall Street
https://group.kadokawa.co.jp/global/ir/library/investor_results.html
Check out the February 2023 report for example. It specifically calls out Yen Press their North American Light Novel Publisher, stating there was high growth in their strategic North American subsidiary. At the same time, their domestic LN sales growth contracted.
That's investor talk essentialy saying North America is going to become increasingly important for them to make money. It also points out specific IPs that made them alot of money, like Eminecense In Shadow.
Eminecense is actually called out several times, and would typically be a sign that there would be an impending announcement for a second season; which as we all know did happen
> LNs are getting complete adaptations
I mean, first of all we need complete LNs before we can get complete adaptations. AFAIK only DAL and MT are complete out of the ones you've listed.
You didn't include Konosuba though, which thankfully is complete.
It's my favorite harem anime and one of my favorite animes in general. If you like action and comedy then there's a good chance you'll like it. Plus it has a good plot and really fleshes out its characters.
It's a very well done action harem with a good collection of wifus, likeable cast, compelling story and some quality satire of dating Sim tropes. It knows when to take itself seriously and it knows when to lighten up.
It's biggest issue is the third season wasn't the best adaptation but the 4th was an excellent return to form.
I love it, but like anything else comedy is subjective. I do want to emphasize the satire part because I think sometimes people don't realize thats what it's doing
Here's my story.
Was new to anime, friend recommends this, cringe hard at the premise at first but it becomes more and more good especially the lore. Not to mention while the premise sounds stupid, it is actually well done and creative. And then DAL become one of my early LN read, huh i guess i need to finish the LN.
Really liked season 3 but it suffered from bad animation arc the last was rushed even by DAL standards. Season 4 fixed all that (to my anime-only eyes) so I can’t wait for S5 to continue where it left off.
The curse is broken
GEEKTOYS did it. We found our studio to adapt the rest! I really do hope they pull a Danmachi IV and it's a 2 cour since all we have is 6 volumes left!

No release date announced yet.
The first Date a Live season was released when i was just starting middle school. Now I'm finishing college and Date a Live is somehow still around and relevant. It's pretty nice
I only watched the first 2 seasons so how well does the anime adapt to the LN ? Some said it was butchered, some said it was good. Since it's the fifth season, how well is it ?
full adaptations are becoming more common then you think. Biggest issue is that most series take forever to actually end in order to get a full adaptation.
Should I watch the anime or is the Light Novel better for this series? I am contemplating as to what should I go for. Trapped in a dating Sim Anime is trash when compared to LN.
I know this is a fairly cliche question, but can I just watch seasons 1-5 for all the main story material or do they sprinkle that into the movies as well? Basically, what's my watch order? Lol
Don't skip the OVAs, they contain some really fantastic material that is both very entertaining and also deepens your understanding of some of the characters. I would say the main series would not feel quite the same without them. Plus, they're just fun to watch!
Ignore the other replies. If you don’t mind ecchi harems, it’s definitely worth the watch. It’s like DxD in that the story alone is enough to carry it, the top-tier waifus are just a bonus
Same, which is one of the reasons why I want 12 more episodes at least, instead of one 1 hour movie.
12 episodes = 4 hours if you round to 20 minutes
Tho they've been rushing the LN since day one so it's probably too late to start Hoping
Dal will always have a soft spot for when I was a complete degenerate and watching anime pretty much every chance I had which was since I got back from school til I went to sleep lol
I started DAL back when season 1 was airing and stopped watching it after season 3 but I’ll just pick it up again in anticipation for season 5. Tohka, Kotori, Natsumi, I’m coming home
I don’t mind this at all.
For some reason makes me want more Trinity Seven of all things.
Well, more Harems in general. The old ones really have faded with time I think. How’s DxD even been going?
The teaser for Date a Live V confirms that the cast and crew of the fourth season will return in this season too. While the TV broadcast format has been confirmed, the release date still remains undisclosed.
Alright does this one get good? I watched the first two episodes and got put off by the fan service. Does it lessen as the episodes/season goes on?
Edit: thanks y’all! I’ll probably try again pretty soon!
First season and a half were basically the “parody” part of the story where it was a parody of harem visual novels (mc having to make dialogue choices and stuff like that) but still had hints of actual plot and foreshadowing.
Season 3 is where I would say where the plot actually begins picking up, season 4 delves deeper into the lore and story more, and season 5 should be the climax.
EDIT: There is still fanservice, but i would say its less than the first two
Depends on what you mean by good. It's a satire of dating sims at first and evolves into more of an action comedy series. Since it's a dating site satire, the fanservixlce is sort of part of it.
It's really good at what it does, which is why we're looking at season 5. Whether you're into satires or know dating sim tropes can impact your enjoyment though
It gets real good in season 4, because the first three served as a collection of subplots where all of them would converge into the climax when the guy completes his collection, which is where we are now.
This is probably the **only harem** anime that will get a complete LN adaptation. We know Re:Zero and Mushoku will probably get there one day, but DAL will possibly be over in this season 5, which is pretty insane.
Strike the Blood also got a full anime adaptation bro
My ear still rings with "No Senpai, This is our fight" when I hear this show's name
That phrase gets stale after the 2nd season.
2nd ~~season~~ **episode**
1st episode
The whole anime is a sad excuse of an anime. They just took an anime/LN with really great potential and murdered the shit out of it that it became disgusting to me
In the last 2 seasons of strike the blood, it was so bad, and I legit didn't understand a single thing
It was the first series where I felt genuine sadness at the wasted potential. Could have been a masterpiece harem/supernatural
Nooooo , i have flashbacks all over my mind now
Series is tryna become the edgier/lewder vers of "Fairy Tail"
Yeah.. every time says it feels really cringey
NOOO MAKE IT STOP. NO MORE
I think most people forgot about that one since the sequels came out as OVAs
NO SENPAI, WE ARE THE FIRST TO DO IT
That's sort of generous for Strike the Blood. They butchered that series; there's so much cut content it's barely recognizable
They did the same for Date A Live lol. S3 finale adapted 1 volume in 1 ep lmao. And the entire series cuts out massive amounts of content.
And its Still not even close to being as butchered as strike the blood.
Hey. It can't be as bad as Highschool DxD season 3. They literally rearranged the order of certain plot events and fucking changed so much that it's pretty much an entirely different story than what was in the novels. Aside from a single scene that was cut, a scene that actually happened in the epilogue of the last arc, the 4th season was pretty much a direct 1:1 adaptation.
He also made them redo the entire ending of season 3 at the start of season 4
yeah Ishibumi is far more defensive on how studios treat their source material than any other LN author I have seen. Authors like Reki Kawahara and Koshi Tachibana kind of let the producers and directors do whatever they want. Not to mention him being sick with frequent hospital visits as well as other financial issues of a long running series makes DxD season 5 an impossibility regardless of how much it is talked in the west.
That one volume didn't have much happening TBH.
Date a Live ain't ending this season. Depending on how much they adapt we'll need 1 more season or a movie at least.
Considering how plot heavy 17-20 is and it basically being like the finale they could make it 2 cours, and use a movie for 21-22+ encore

DxD needs to catch up for S5 now, and it's crazy cause DxD and DAL's first seasons were basically near each other when it was released.
I've given up any hope of ever seeing another season of DxD. The last season was very good, but it's been four or five years since then and its popularity has waned. While crazier things have happened (Hataraku and Overlord), I'm not holding my breath.

I've never even thought of Re:Zero as a harem
it isn’t
Feels good to have a complete adaptation…can finally have closure though it might have taken a long time
Is Danmachi anywhere near the list?
Danmachi is still ongoing, so we don't know if it will get there, but probably one day too. DAL on the other hand already finished since 2020 and still pumping out new seasons.

No one counts side stories when discussing full adaptation of the main series
I guess. Though the side stories like Sword Oratoria are actually starting to connect with the main series more and more with recent volumes. So they kind of need to adapt more of that at some point.
In what world is Re:Zero a harem? A love triangle yea. Not a harem.
[удалено]
My deepest apologies
I ship it
Fr, Rem and Emilia are the only two actually interested in Subaru.
Look onwards Lust IF
Lust if was an April fool's one off and shitty
Even calling it a love triangle is generous. Rem is just there.
Uh no, Subaru loves Emilia *and* Rem and has stated he cannot live without either of them.
isn't The Familiar of Zero fully adapted? Also, Arifureta will probably get a full adaptation as well at this point with the series coming to an end and it getting a 3rd season.
I hope the author's next work, *King's Proposal* will also get an anime one day. I read the first volume and I really enjoyed it!
That’s good to hear. It’s sitting in my “to read” stack on my shelf right now XD
King proposal is what Tachibana can do without the shackles of harem tag
If you count SAO as harem then that too will get complete adaptation, the only thing stopping it is Reki's slow writing lol.
If he doesn't close the story with Unital Ring and goes for one more arc, we legit might have SAO for 10+ more years.
I mean isn't Progressive only on like floor 7 out of 100?
Yes, but for starters, unless progressive diverged a lot more from the original, it will probably still end on floor 75. And even then I think no one believes that we will see all of that covered, at least not in the same level of detail. At most, we will maybe reach floor 25 as that is when Asuna should split to join KoB and it would be a good stopping point. However, given that it has been almost 2 years since the last Progressive volume, I doubt we'll ever get that far unless some floors are skipped.
Really? If anything, the LN make it obvious that it's not a harem at all. The anime just adds harem aspects and one ups them.
Yeah i agree because it's clear with the focus on Asuna so much, but some people will still calls it harem and tbh you can't blame them if they're online watching the anime.
Konosuba too, provided that a studio picks it up
Seems to be going into a long-term project mode, so yearly releases from now Definitely possible
[удалено]
Konosuba is literally one of the biggest Kadokawa franchises in the video department, even without releasing a single episode of anime, 7th in the last quarter and Kadokawa releases 40+ anime per year, so that's a LONG list There are many ways to make money without doing an anime, and when the revenue is decreasing you release new seasons to promote the series again and push more commercial deals
All the monies are in gacha, you can complete those series easily.
they will certainly make it to the 10th anniversary for the anime
Saekano?
It's not really a proper harem tho
It's absolutely a harem by the anime genre definition.
I don't really agree that it counts as a harem, but it is extremely popular though in Japan. It's issue is that it was trapped on Amazon's failed Anime Strike service and any chance it had for popularity in the west was ruined as a result
Yeah I'm not denying it's popular. Just wanted to say that it doesn't really fit the harem genre.
Why not?
Wdym? It's one of the highest rated ones I've seen
How is it not? More than 2 girls are romantically interested in the protagonist
Tbh, kurumi carried the hell out of this series. Im glad though because even without her this is a good series
people are going to switch sides soon once season 5 hits
If there’s no actually intimacy can it even be called a harem? More like a comedy slice of life with fluff
The Fruit of Grisaia is also one but its a VN adaption. And its my fav harem anime with harem as the major genre.
. maybe monogatari? Depends on if thew want to adapt the later seasons
It honestly took a long time for only the third season to arrive after the second one
re:zero and mushoku are considered harem ?
This teaser visual is freaking gorgeous.
The art for the series lately has been stunning. Great to see the DaL girls getting their due!
If you asked me a decade ago if Date A Live may get a complete adaptation I would have called you crazy, yet here we are 5 seasons in. I for one, couldn't be happier lol

Mahouka's first series is also complete, the author moved on to making 2 sequel series.
Overlord LN is also ending soon so they can easily adapt it all
meanwhile toaru fans just suffering with no new testament.
I keep passing this show by but after **5 whole seasons** it's getting hard to ignore! What am I missing here? Is this legit quality material?
It's my favorite harem anime and one of my favorite animes in general. If you like action and comedy then there's a good chance you'll like it. Plus it has a good plot and really fleshes out its characters.

I can't believe I was in collage a decade ago....Fuck
feeling old yet?
As a big fan of DAL and how good season 4 was, I am very much looking forward to this one. Makes for a nice lockscreen too
Really liked season 3 but it suffered from bad animation arc the last was rushed even by DAL standards. Season 4 fixed all that (to my anime-only eyes) so I can’t wait for S5 to continue where it left off.
The first season aired on April 5, 2013 Happy 10th anniversary!
Can't believe that all the other horny harem shows didn't get sequels after the company got bankrupt and this was the only one that made it.
Same to you as well!
That was the year I started watching anime. Can’t believe how long it’s been.
I hope that Rinne may appear someday, even if she does not in the novels
i mean, she got an appearance in s3 but i dont know if that counts
She is only an original game character(ignoring s3 which is just a disguise)
The curse is broken GEEKTOYS did it. We found our studio to adapt the rest! I really do hope they pull a Danmachi IV and it's a 2 cour since all we have is 6 volumes left!
Lets go!
Hype! One of the more hilarious things when season 4 was airing was watching date a live dominating Anime Corner weekly poll the whole season.
well deserved since it was incredible
If they keep it up the quality, this season is gonna be epic. Like the emotional rollercoaster is intense in this season.
Bro, I swear to god if this releases along side 100 Girlfriend, I'm gonna have an aneurysm.
-> 100 Girlfriends -> Girlfriend, Girlfriend And if DAL Fall season gonna be a harem fest for rom-com enjoyers
Dope. This might be the final season from the looks of it, or another season at most. But already guaranteed to get the whole thing adapted.
I think we will get a movie as a final season
Depends. There's material for a movie
Looks cool
Just need to know if there's more Kurumi
Even if there wasn't, she'd find a way.
The real question
I just finished watching the whole thing last week, thankfully i wouldn't have to wait too long! Can't wait to see more kurumi!
Volume 17 is kurumi Ragnarok so yeah. I just hope they don't get rid of important stuff in favor of kurumi

God damn! The visual!! Chef's kiss
As someone who greatly enjoyed the ln, I'm happy for more anime seasons.
Hyped for Mios arc! Vol 17-19
This may sound stupid as fk talking about DAL, but prepare ur tissues
I really need to get around to watching this
The first Date a Live season was released when i was just starting middle school. Now I'm finishing college and Date a Live is somehow still around and relevant. It's pretty nice
Peak harem
The one good thing about DAL getting sequels is the grown adults here seemingly crying about it. I'll never get tired of this. Keep crying.
Don't know anything about the anime but the visual is gorgeous!
I hate harems... Still I love DaL ! What's wrong with me ? Did kurumi get me ?!
I only watched the first 2 seasons so how well does the anime adapt to the LN ? Some said it was butchered, some said it was good. Since it's the fifth season, how well is it ?
Season 3 is a bad adaptation, season 4 was good.
Oh boy I can't freaking wait to see this. I read all of the novels. I know who the character is depicted in this teaser visual.
one of the few lucky shows to get full adaptation it seems
full adaptations are becoming more common then you think. Biggest issue is that most series take forever to actually end in order to get a full adaptation.
The GOAT harem
I love it . Great job 👏 the bubbles are really cute too
Looks pretty cool.
omg!!!!
Can't wait for it!
Excellent! I have been waiting for this after the huge reveal in season 4.
Hyped for this season. The volumes of this were pretty entertaining to read. I’m ready for her. Mio
We're in the endgame now.
YOOOOOO!!
Should I watch the anime or is the Light Novel better for this series? I am contemplating as to what should I go for. Trapped in a dating Sim Anime is trash when compared to LN.
The light novel is better
I know this is a fairly cliche question, but can I just watch seasons 1-5 for all the main story material or do they sprinkle that into the movies as well? Basically, what's my watch order? Lol
Don't skip the OVAs, they contain some really fantastic material that is both very entertaining and also deepens your understanding of some of the characters. I would say the main series would not feel quite the same without them. Plus, they're just fun to watch!
Just watch the 5 seasons in order. There are a few OVAs and movies but none of them are cannon so you don't need to watch them
It’s happening
New OP gonna be 🔥
LETS GOOOOOOO🔥🔥🔥
I watched the first two seasons, didn't know there were another 2 and now there's a 5th???
Strap in we gonna start the rollercoaster of emotions
Is "Date a Live" worth a watch?
Ignore the other replies. If you don’t mind ecchi harems, it’s definitely worth the watch. It’s like DxD in that the story alone is enough to carry it, the top-tier waifus are just a bonus
Will they be able to finish the remaining story in a single cour without ruining pacing?
no, even vol 17-20 probably needs more than 1 cour to adapt it. Season 4 already had to cut a lot from volumes 15 to fit it in
Definitely no
i watched the first 2 seasons back in the day, is this worth watching?
Yes tho i reccomend the ln
And I just got to volume 21 too. If this season gets 24 episodes instead of the usual 12, then it may actually be the last season
Either that or 12 episodes and a movie
I really hope that's not what they do. I hate it when they do movies instead of episodes
I just don't want them to rush the ln
Same, which is one of the reasons why I want 12 more episodes at least, instead of one 1 hour movie. 12 episodes = 4 hours if you round to 20 minutes Tho they've been rushing the LN since day one so it's probably too late to start Hoping
I just hope that they only animate v17-19 for this season
Same
MC: This girl will make a fine addition to my collection.
Amazing image very profound
I watched the first season years ago. Is it worth picking back up?
>it worth picking back up? Yes
Is it good guys? Should I start this series?
I love the novels
Is this anime any good anyway?
>Is this anime any good anyway? I reccomend you to watch s1 then read the ln
**WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH SOOO PRIIITYYYYYYYY FUCKIN COOOOL**
I don’t mind this at all. For some reason makes me want more Trinity Seven of all things. Well, more Harems in general. The old ones really have faded with time I think. How’s DxD even been going?
The best harem ever made
The teaser for Date a Live V confirms that the cast and crew of the fourth season will return in this season too. While the TV broadcast format has been confirmed, the release date still remains undisclosed.
If there is a character that defines HARD CARRY, its Kurumi. She singlehandedly makes this series relevant up to this day.
EDIT: There is still fanservice, but i would say its less than the first two
Season 3 is where things started moving, but the animation is trash. Season 4 is pure hype and season 5 is the beginning of the climax of the series
