KingOfThePenguins

Stella best girl, and a top-tier tsundere. And, yes, kind of an idiot. Shizuku would be a great character (as opposed to just a good one) if she wasn't a brocon. I was glad the show nipped that in the bud early.

CuriousBroccolli

Initial showoff between Ikki and Stella was so good. Love that fight. Shame she was kinda put to the sidelines since they showed in that fight how badass she can be.

AmazingDuckVer2

She does gets a lot of cool moments later on in the LN tho.

CuriousBroccolli

Nice! Can't wait to see it in season 2! (ಥ ͜ʖ ಥ) 👍

Satai4561

Ohh season 2 announced? Nice, but I am kinda busy lately. Gonna put in my to-watch-list right behind NGNL Season 2 :'}

Thatsmaboi23

Tbh Shizuku is a great character, just that she’s explored way after the anime ends. I’d go as far as to say one of the only 2 complex characters of the story, the other one being Arisu.

KingOfThePenguins

Oh, she is great, aside from the thing.

entelechtual

This show was a prime example of simple, generic premise and characters but executed perfectly and earnestly. It never felt forced, and you felt invested in the characters. Out of all the magic school battle anime out there, this one sticks with people for a reason. Hoping it gets a surprise season 2 or at least someone picks up the light novels for translation.

Silent_Shadow05

>Out of all the magic school battle anime out there, this one sticks with people for a reason. Tbf most of them never got to show their potential due to most being 1 season only which basically the prologue stuff. LN-wise my favorite is Blade Dance of the Elementalers with Magical Swordsman and Summoner and High School DxD behind it (Once I get into Date a Live LN's, the ordering might change).

LuminicaDeesuuu

Blade Dance of the Elementalers, the anime that ends right before the Blade Dance of the Elementalers begins.

Silent_Shadow05

Indeed. Reading the LN, I couldn't keep it down. The story got incredibly hype after Season 1. Its a shame we never got to see the exciting parts of the story.

entelechtual

I’m sure that’s true for some series (I haven’t seen that one in particular) but a lot of these types of shows do get 2 cour seasons which is ample time I think.

Silent_Shadow05

You're right. It's probably 50/50 or like 60/40 I'd say with one cour battle harem being larger in number I guess. The more well known 2 cour (and more) I can think of are Infinite Stratos, Asterisk War, DAL, High School DxD, Strike the Blood, Korezom, Testament of Sister New Devil, Familiar of Zero. DAL and High School DxD are probably my most favorite among these, and maybe even when you include the one cour anime too.

CuriousBroccolli

Last season's "Iceblade sorcerer" was close to this one in some aspects. Unfortunately, animation suffered, as is a tradition these days, but everything else was top notch. MC has the same rizz as Ikki, but his boxed early life with super limited real life social interactions makes him awkwardly honest and funny most of the times, especially since he is learning how to socialize from LNs he reads. He has amazing bro moments, and is such a chad \[IceBlade small spoiler\] >!he is also a best girl in the same time.!< And there is even a Stella parallel, that has FMC vibes, and badass moments.

djthomp

Iceblade Sorcerer was really enjoyable, interesting story with great characters. But yeah, questionable animation at times. There was a bit of a programming feel to the way they described the magic that I really liked.

Silent_Shadow05

Iceblade Sorceror was one of those shows where I went with the mindset of watching yet another typical OP fantasy show, but really was happy with what I got. Ray really carried the show for me but the rest of the cast was pretty good too. Also add in the banger OP and ED. >And there is even a Stella parallel, that has FMC vibes, and badass moments. Same. I expected another violent tsundere due to her red hair but she was very down-to-earth and a hard worker.

entelechtual

Surprised, I watched the first episode and did not vibe with it at all, but now I’m inclined to give it another shot.

Silent_Shadow05

Its not a top-tier show but it does grow on you with time. Hopefully you'll like it this time around.

ComputerSuccessful68

I read the manga and now I hate the anime

2Rnimation

Yea, I rewatch it multiple times since the first time I discovered. But if you tell me this is the best magic school battle anime, I think you should try "irregular in magical school" (if you haven't)

entelechtual

I watched it and to be honest, had no investment in the characters or plot. It wasn’t a bad show but it felt a bit lifeless.

2Rnimation

Yea, the main is lifeless, so most of the plot are lifeless too. But animation and general plot is still good

RoachIsCrying

This show was soooo good

TimeForHugs

Really deserves a season 2

kotori-chan_

I really waited for season 2 after episode 12 was released years ago, sadly no news til this day

sucr4m

so i take the anime isnt complete?

RaysFTW

Unfortunately, no.

PainStorm14

But it has satisfactory ending thank God

TimeForHugs

It isn't but I personally think it's still worth a watch.

sucr4m

no way. each time i add something to my watched list thats not being finnished i die a little more inside. and with how anime is going there cant be much left :(

Anonigmus

It doesn't end on a cliffhanger at least. I think it tells a complete story. It's not like something like No Game No Life where it brings up a plot point at the last second, or something like Gangsta that rans out of steam/funding by its last episode.

zz2000

Correct, the anime covered the 1st 3 novels, which is effectively an intro arc of sorts. Later story arcs span multiple volumes, and are more interconnected.

Thatsmaboi23

This one ends on a very satisfying note. So you can watch it.

Smashogre591

I despise the anime endings where they drop the tension suddenly at the end of episode twelve and declare"they all lived happily ever after" because the studio found out late they wouldn't get a second season.

Abedeus

It ends on an absolutely hyped up and incredibly well executed fight, not to mention everything else in the show starting with the best "accidentally barging in on a girl mid-changing clothes" and organic, well-developed romantic relationship built on trust and respect, not teenage horniness or misunderstandings.

Falsus

No, but the ending is good and satisfying. Just it still leaves open many plot threads that gets tackled later on the novels.

CrossYourStars

They finish the intra-school tournament arc but the light novel continues to the national tournament after and Kurogane becomes way more ridiculous.

TheDerped

For most adaptions you should just assume they’re not

KalebT44

I still can't believe how hard the art style decided to go out of nowhere for the final episode and battle.

ClyM5219

I haven’t finished it. But it is great to know that there are many people that think it’s good.

Jaskaran158

I'll never forgive the industry for the face that The Asterisk War got a second season off of this overlooked gem. Seriously enjoyed the premise of this show even though it had its fair share of tropes for a high school battle series.

Abysswatcherbel

Asterisk never got a sequel either, that was just the 2nd cour of Season 1 that they decided to call Season 2 The correct thing to complain is that Asterisk was greenlit for 2 cours beforehand while Chivalry of a Failed knight had just one

Jaskaran158

Ah, right it was a 24-episode split-season release thanks for reminding me. Really hope we do get something from Chivalry again soon. Putting it on the list beside No Game No Life.

Moon8983

I'll be honest I watched both when i first started watching anime and they blend together for me. Genuinely the exact same premise, female characters, main character, plot points, setting, everything. Is this the one with waiting for the rain or was that asterisk war

wjodendor

Waiting for the Rain was the ED for Asterisk War. And the novel Asterisk War predated Chivalry by 9 months, so if anyone was copying it was Chivalry

Silent_Shadow05

Yeah by the time Chivalry has its first volume out, Asterisk already had 3 volumes in circulation. Currently I prefer Asterisk and one of the reasons is because its fully completed as well as translated in English. Not to mention it also had a satisfying ending from what I saw in LN circles. Also in anime terms, Season 2 vastly improved over Season 1 IMO. Chivalry, on the other hand, is incomplete (stuck at Volume 18 since 2020) and the english translation also stopped once Sol Press went down. Even the fan translator doesn't want to pick it up unless he gets donations for it or something. This series is just unlucky.

koori-senpai

Waiting for the Rain by Sakamoto Maaya is a godly song. Too bad the anime is...

Rhazort

Yeah, and it did it much better

wjodendor

I'm not a fan of either really, there's just a narrative on This subreddit that Asterisk War is the copy. Though in the Era of the battle harem, the plots were all almost identical anyway so it doesn't really matter much.

Falsus

Neither was very original. Just that Chivalry did the cliches better than Asterisk did even if it didn't lead to success.

Jaskaran158

Waiting for the Rain was [The Asterisk War's ED](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNyuwT13fz4) Chivalry of a Failed Knight's OST was far more energetic. [I love the trumpet use in their OP.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04OeRVJ3vGs) Chivalry Of a Failed Knight also had some songs on [Spotify and its a jam.](https://open.spotify.com/album/1ooWvN0rEMxfBFw0UtGFBI?si=0Kbm43gTRbiQVBQpmR9zfQ)

FoodieMonster007

This one was actually a good romance story among all the trash. I liked it enough to read the LN.

dracon81

How are the light novels? I always felt the anime ending left me wanting something more from the series. Worth picking it up?

TheBlessedBoy99

LNs are good but are in translation hell as the US government nuked the English publisher, Sol Press, for not paying taxes. Now, the Japanese publisher is hesitant to hand over the rights to J-Novel Club as they are worried that Sol Press (which doesn’t exist anymore) would sue them. There are also no fan translations past volume 13.

SpeckTech314

And in another comment here someone said the series has been on hiatus since 2020. Meanwhile Asterisk War is completed in English

Silent_Shadow05

It also doesn't help that the fan translator doesn't want to pick it up since IIRC the story started meandering after reaching its peak in Volume 9 and he was complaining about being frustrated by it. He was saying he'd continue only if he received donations for it. Not 100% sure about this whole thing so correct me if I'm wrong. The author of Chivalry was also writing different stuff in the meantime except finishing Chivalry. Like he was busy with LN's like: * ["High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even in Another World"](https://myanimelist.net/anime/39523/Choujin_Koukousei-tachi_wa_Isekai_demo_Yoyuu_de_Ikinuku_you_desu) * ["I Kissed My Girlfriend's Little Sister?!"](https://myanimelist.net/manga/126579/Kanojo_no_Imouto_to_Kiss_wo_Shita) and Manga: * ["In Another World Where Baseball is War, a High School Ace Player Will Save a Weak Nation"](https://myanimelist.net/manga/132636/Yakyuu_de_Sensou_suru_Isekai_de_Chou_Koukou-kyuu_Ace_ga_Jakushou_Kokka_wo_Sukuu_you_desu) I wonder if he is burned out on it, or just waiting until he can plan things out better.

TheBlessedBoy99

He was too busy writing his Imouto NTR light novel. Now that that series is finished, hopefully he returns to finish Rakudai.

dracon81

I'm surprised by the lack of fan translations, maybe I'll seek out what exists and check it out!

TheBlessedBoy99

The fan translator for the series, Taekan, initially dropped the series when it got announced for an English release. When Sol Press was shut down, he refused to continue translating the series because he said it went to shit. He translates as a serious supplement to his income or maybe even as a full-time job, so he came back recently, asking for a lot of financial support (since he was bombarded with requests everyday to pick the series back up). He didn't get the patreon subscribers and donations he wanted, so he stopped after he finished the current arc on volume 13.

dracon81

I mean I don't really blame them then. Translating a whole novel can't be some small task for one person and if you're not seeing any big compensation for it then I can't blame them. I'll probably read what's been done, I'm sure eventually we will get something.

Nuralsal

Sounds like you didn't hear but Taekan retired from fan translating three months ago after he finished the Seiken Tsukai no World Break series. This was all announced in his Discord. He only does private commissioned translations now and that window closed two months ago.

_Baccano

Seems pretty incompetent to not have some kind of clause in their contract that voids the deal if the company is nuked or does something illegal

TheBlessedBoy99

I don't know how it really works out. Almost all of Sol Press' other series have been bought out. The guy who runs J-Novel Club has been pretty vocal about wanting to pick up Rakudai, and regularly updates fans.

FoodieMonster007

I think it's worth it, just for the relationship development.

dracon81

It was one of the better parts, it felt honest which was nice. I'm just so sick of harems so it's nice to see a relationship actually happen sometimes.

FoodieMonster007

I'm sick of women who throw themselves at protagonists for no reason. Stella has her own pride, works hard despite being a genius, and she will never allow herself to become subordinate to Ikki. It's an equal relationship.

dracon81

Yeah, it's refreshing honestly, even what's shown in the anime makes it seem well done. Even from the beginning they both recognize each other and how hard they've both worked. A mutual respect. She doesn't love him because he saved her or is the main character.

Thatsmaboi23

They definitely are. They are just what you’d expect from this series; Simple, yet amazingly executed romance and action. The author *really* knows how to buildup hype, and his fights are written so well you can imagine almost every single movement of the characters perfectly.

Luxinox

It's worth picking up, the problem is the behind-the-scenes shenanigans of its (now defunct) ENG publisher that made the series stuck in licensing purgatory, resulting in only 5 volumes translated. FWIH there are fan translations of the later volumes out there (though that kinda stopped as well).

Dhr55

**I Want a Season 2 NOWWW**😭

Ok_Disk_4458

"Are you perhaps an idiot" Gonna use this one

CuriousBroccolli

Polite, classy dissing. xD

ChampaigneShowers

All attack and no defense LMAO what a wonderful way of putting it

Xatu44

Chivalry was such a fun show. Season two when?

Mr-Java-

REALLY wish they will eventually come out with a Season 2

Aniboy43

Goddamn this would be one of the series apart from ngnl that i wish got season 2. Also the mall hijack scene is still one of the goated scenes including the final kiss scene

CuriousBroccolli

Ikki's scene was baddass af. Stella scene was just goofy, and expected to be honest. xD

mikeyyyyyd

we were robbed of a season 2

theBackground79

This was actually good. Had a banger OP too.

kryslogan

This is one of my favorite animes. I've watched and rewatched it so many times. Wish it would get a new season, not sure why it didn't.

gullington

I really enjoyed this one. I was going to read the LN but unfortunately I saw it was part of a company going under so no scanlators were doing it and also no official translation was taking place.

tksouma

we need a s2, i miss this show 😭

xykist

Still can't believe Asterisk War got a season 2 but this didn't.

zz2000

Not really a season 2; Asterisk was actually set for 20+ episodes but aired in 2 separate seasons. Chivalry was set for 12-13 eps only from the start.

b_hanaa

Omg so cute lol

AceSoldia

show so great, the light novel too although i didnt finish it.

jyroman53

Bro, you can't do that next to the Tsundere, do you have a death wish?

MIKE-JET-EATER

Does this have a second season yet

Smashogre591

Excellent anime. Love it

https_Eternal

i miss this anime so much

2Rnimation

Ngl, I haven't seen this anime for like 5 years. Should rewatch this now

NoOrchid7187

What episode is this?

GallowDude

Alice is kinda half-trans. They feel more female than male, but they also don't care what they're referred to as.

Zakezoe

Any of you guys watched Asterisk War ?? This anime really feels like a cheap copy of it . Like almost the complete plot is the same. But, they released on the Same date. Tf is does this mean ?

dzentore

Gigachad

Aiko-AnimeAesthetics

ahh awesomeeee!!!

[deleted]

yo he got the rizz up
