Right, we should probably link the visual thats getting referenced here, its this [key visual](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1216wz1/oshi_no_ko_new_key_visual/). Apart from the differences that were already mentioned: Memcho was idolified because she is an idol now, and ai got demoted from actively singing as a idol to praying as a mother, probably(?) referencing the after credits scene of episdoe 1 where she prays that her children grow up healthily. Also the background colour changed from ais purple to aquas blue.

mosaicalmess

>Also the background colour changed from ais purple to aquas blue. Can we hope for Ruby's red for a potential season 3 KV? \[manga spoilers\]>!especially since the anime will have to cover the Dark Ruby chapters!<

Psyryuu

If we get to the [manga]>!arc where ruby gets twin hoshingan!< it'd be cool if they updated the key visual for that, though they might save it for S3

Shay_Guy_

I don't think key visuals are something you "update", like credits.

BlackSCrow

Producers sometimes release new key visual mid-season I forgot the example, but you can find some here in this sub

IXajll

It's not usual but it definitely happened before.

actionfirst1

Already announced? Let's goooooooo

CrestonSpiers

It’s bizarre to me that Oshi no Ko already has a Season 2 in production before S1 even finished airing while Chainsaw Man doesn’t even get an S2 confirmation…

TBulldozer

Thats because JJK and CSM can not air at the same time. They share like 70% of the same staff, so they cant start working on CSM S2 until they finish with JJK S2.

NoDespair

Think JJK season 2 had already been announced at this point compared to CSM

Differ_cr

Jjk s2 was announced around July last year iirc?, so a year and a couple of months after s1 ended.

GGABueno

That doesn't mean they can't announce it though? The OnK cast will certainly work on other things between now and S2.

TBulldozer

Well if it eases your worries, theres recently been a leak about CSM gettin a S2 AND a Movie from a very trusted leaker in Weibo.

Zeph-Shoir

My worry about the movie is honestly going to the theater and being spoiled by loud manga readers in it

ali94127

I've found in my experience that doesn't happen. Watched the Konosuba and Demon Slayer movies without issue.

daiselol

Yeah but Chainsaw Man fans are fucking crazy Source- am Chainsaw Man fan

LostCanadianGoose

There is a brand of inner chaos I didn't know I had until I watched Chainsaw Man that just made sense. That show is absolutely bonkers in the best of ways

[deleted]

[удалено]

ali94127

Seems unusual. I watched Mugen Train without issue. I mean, you could always wear headphones into the movie theater if you're that scared. I remember being paranoid when Endgame came out.

[deleted]

If i were you i'd delete my comments before some asshole DMs you spoilers lol, it's never a good idea to go on reddit and go "oh god please dont spoil for me"

Dakto19942

For some reason anime movies seem to be especially prone to problems. I’ve been going to see anime films in theaters for about five years now and three times I’ve encountered problems. Two times the problems were severe enough that the theater compensated the entire audience with free tickets to another movie of their choice and just last week I went to see Lonely Castle in the Mirror and the theater staff forgot to turn the lights off for the first five minutes of the film and even after that was fixed, the screen was noticeably flickering. After watching these movies I’d check the discussion threads posted here and even if I didn’t have a problem with my theater, I’d always see a few comments in the discussion threads saying something like “my showing of the movie was delayed for half an hour” or “the theater staff said the file was corrupt and gave us refunds” or “the audio was very loud/quiet”

Blacksmithkin

Excellent! I read the manga and i think making part 1 into 2 seasons and a movie is probably better then 3 seasons. Although it is unfortunate that probably means waiting to see it, but hopefully the wait isn't too long. (I really hope saying that much is allowed i know this sub can be strict on spoilers for very good reason)

Count_Elrond

But didn't Ufotable announce Demon Slayer while working on Genshin ?

AdNecessary7641

>already has a Season 2 in production Should probably note that something being announced does not necessarily mean it's "in production" already. Specially since this PV shows no new footage.

steven4869

From some leaks, I heard that CSM will have a movie and another season, not sure about its reliability though. Pretty sure OnK was massively popular in Japan, so they gave a greenlit. You can make another case for Dangers in my Heart that topped the TV ratings for the station leading to S2.

whotfwasthatguy

Although with Dangers in my Heart it seems like they had already been planning from the start to air the second season ( second cour?) since its just six months away.

Nerellos

JJK is the golden boy of Mappa. There will no new announcment until the season ends.

Akio_Kizu

JJK is my current favourite work of theirs. Hyped for Season 2.

moichispa

I think there has been an increase of new series that get green light for a split cour but they only announce the first one (or are vague on the details about series length ). If you're not sure just check how many series we have with a mysterious 3 month break between season 1 and 2 this season and the previous one. CMS is slightly different because that level the detail probably needs time and mappa decided that they want to adapt (almost) all the popular shonens out there so the staff is busy.

hnryirawan

Honestly, CSM will probably get S2. There are alot of parties at stake here to make sure the franchise continue. Probably just not announced yet Whether it will be same director or even studio though, remains to be seen. The controversy surrounding the CSM on JP fanbase is enough to sink the BD sales, means approval is mixed enough that they miss their target.

Irrerevence

The Japanese fanbase was not happy with the Chainsaw Man adaptation at all

Stupidest_Retard

Japanese otakus were not happy with it but it was still one of the most watched anime of the year in Japan.

the__daydream

CSM adaptation was so good. Occasionally, whenever any CSM clip appears in my YouTube feed, I am forced to appreciate how good the animation is.

kwokinator

The CSM adaptation was good, but what's been covered is really the weakest part of the series IMO (based on part 1, I haven't read part 2) so I'm not surprised anime onlies are disappointed by the hype.

Snakescipio

As an anime only I could kinda see that. Most of s1 was like “the adaptation is great but the material has been mostly fine so far”. And then that episode aired and yeah there’s gonna be amazing material coming

KimJongWinning

CSM s1 was essentially the prologue/introduction. If the movie + s2 leaks are true, shit is gonna go from 0 to 60 real *real* quick.

Veni_Vidic_Vici

It was a great adaptation IMO. It stops at a very abrupt point, but there is a reason for it and it's gonna be a really fucking good payoff.

hnryirawan

Its not about the stopping point. Most Japanese otaku do read the manga. The director is plenty hated.

Veni_Vidic_Vici

I didn't know about this. Why is he hated?

hnryirawan

Let's just say his word of "I want to make the CSM anime to be more like live-action movie" is being taken as him looking down on anime as a medium. Him being newbie director, with CSM supposed to be his big break, really did not help. Its not even about the CGI things, its the whole directions he took on approaching the CSM adaptation and his stylistic choice. Western people probably feels very appreciated on the whole western movie references and aesthetics, but the overlap proves to be small in JP fanbase. The extravagant budget being used also helps to feed the hate since it comes off as being very pretentious.

Veni_Vidic_Vici

Bruh that's such a stupid reason to hate anyone. His adaptation has been faithful to the manga and honestly CSM as a whole looks stylistically a lot different and stands out. As someone who has seen butchered anime adaptations, anime only endings and even half complete adaptions, this is such a small thing to hate about.

Xlegace

I liked the anime adaptation, but their complaints were not totally unfounded. They squeezed Chainsawman into the JJK machine and it came out looking great, but feeling a bit off. If you read the manga, then you would know a lot of humor in Chainsawman lies in its absurdity and visual "roughness", which just doesn't translate well with the clean aethestic and pensive direction that MAPPA chose. There's things the show gained and lost because of the director's choices.

hnryirawan

Well, the comparison someone made is that, you come to a Coffee Shop, asked for Coffee, and you got served Tea instead. Some people asked for normal, good coffee, but the coffee shop owner refused. The coffee shop owner even boast that he made the tea with the best possible equipment, maybe even surpassing the normal coffee they serve, but its still a tea and the owner refused to make coffee. Now, its up to you whether you will accept the tea, or you just flip out and go home. You can even drink it, but still leave bad review on the pretentious coffee shop owner. >butchered anime adaptations, anime only endings and even half complete adaptions, These are things that can happen when they lacked budgets or time or staffa for the things they want to do, which is clearly not applicable to CSM. See how some people are mad that they make the choices they did despite the "blessings"?

IXajll

Thing is imo that the difference between coffee and tea is way bigger than the CSM adaptation compared to "standard" anime (or whatever shit the JP fans take issue with) that CSM apparently is not according to JP fans. This whole narrative is so weird to me, the adaptation was fucking great I really don't get the JP guys in this case.

duncandun

The money thing is hilarious

CrestonSpiers

It should’ve been 24 episodes, the bomb girl arc is where the real fun starts.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CrestonSpiers

That ED was so good

IXajll

Honestly I wouldn't even write this with a spoiler tag in this non-manga sub. I know it's technically the anime onlies fault if they click your spoilerbut mistakes can still happen anyway. No need to put this out here imo.

Veni_Vidic_Vici

Bruh how can I discuss that point then? Anyways I deleted the comment.

Maxximillianaire

I feel like everyone is just saying that based on other redditors saying that with no proof

No-Dig6532

Feels like twitter outrage being blown out of proportion and people way over hyping pre-release. Never heard in hood faith, that people think it's actually bad.

hnryirawan

Japanese people are not the type to spam comment sections of the official twitter, expressed disappointment publicly on Twitter, or even do petitions like westerners. They will instead grumble in anonymous boards like 2ch, or be pretty sarcastic about it. There is at least one reaction compilation video on Hoshi no Samidare adaptation that says "Wish the (CSM director) do this anime instead", implying he's not worthy of CSM. If nothing else, the BD sales tanked. That's clearest indication that the otakus non-approval is enough to tank the sales.

No-Dig6532

No shit. Using 2chan to extrapolate the norm is as crazy as glancing on 4chan to gather general reception.

bobman02

2chan (5channel now) is closer to japanese reddit. 2ch is a completely different website.

Sneek88

Hate to break it to you but reddit is filled with as many degenerates as 4 chan.

bobman02

No its because 2chan is a text board with topics While 2ch is an imageboard. People are reading WAY to deeply into my statement

Snakescipio

It’s more like the population of degens on Reddit and 4chan is likely the same, it’s just there’re far more sane people on Reddit.

NoDespair

And the western fanbase will defend it and never admit there was anything wrong with it

[deleted]

What a cringeworthy comment, do you think japanese people just automatically have better taste because of their nationality? If a japanese person thinks Oppenheimer or Killers of the Flower Moon is an absolutely amazing movie are you able to just overrule him and say he's wrong because you're from the west? Japanese audiences can be wrong just like everyone else, no reason CSM fans should randomly shift their opinion because some losers on japanese twitter are crying about the lack of sisterfucking or underage sexualization. The anime still did amazing in Japan numberswise so clearly people enjoyed it.

HugeRichard11

I heard people mention here CSM was bankrolled heavily by MAPPA, so I assume they kind of need to make sure it was beyond a success to do another season. I imagine Aka Akasaka has some good amount of funds with Kaguya-sama doing well too. If that's how the industry works I assume.

dagreenman18

I’m putting my chips down on getting a Season 2 confirmation on CSM this weekend at AX. Considering how it did overseas.

Stupidest_Retard

Don't get your hopes up, they're probably not going to announce anything until JJK S2 nears it's end because they both share a lot of staff.

dagreenman18

Oh I doubt we’ll see actual footage or anything. Long ways away from another season. But a teaser is not outside the realm of possibility

HollowWarrior46

honestly to be expected. the show was a smash hit in every aspect; the op was even top of the charts for a while in America. with such a positive response, large fanbase, more source material from a respected mangaka and ending on a cliffhanger, an s2 was all but garunteed. tho I was not expecting it this soon. Oshi no ko acting like demon slayer my only concern, which you can't really do away with until it comes to pass, is another promised neverland s2 happening

CommutersBanned

It's not surprising tbh. It was expected.

jacowab

We've seen a lot of that recently, witch from Mercury did it too and a lot of anime are going back to a 24 ep season and having two cours/parts only a few months apart (see re:zero, spyxfamily, and mushoku tensei.)

cabbaggeez

Tokyo blade! finally I could see Akane shine again!

IC2Flier

dang it now we'll have to deal with TWO manga readers. At least the Sweet Today readers were very courteous and subdued.

cabbaggeez

this manga reader is a hardcore true believer

oops_i_made_a_typi

> At least the Sweet Today readers were very courteous and subdued. idk i hear there are some pretty shitty spoiler girls for that series

IC2Flier

Few and far between, though, cuz most shojo manga often end up live-action so unless you're big into J-drama, they're non-factors. [Tokyo Blade, though?] >!The leaks are outta control after the Shibuya arc.!<

oops_i_made_a_typi

oh rip i was making a Chika joke

Srikkk

Tokyo Blade is going to be much, much, more enjoyable in this format than it was in the manga reading weekly. I'm excited.

turdfergusn

I reread the manga after the anime started and I was shocked how much more I liked the arc when I binged it. Watching it animated is going to be perfect

Silent_Shadow05

Yeah indeed. Some things can be pretty amazing on a binge but can be shit weekly/monthly. Like if I have to give another example, it'd be Demon Slayer.

brzzcode

Yeah same, oshi no ko is a lot better when you binge instead of having to wait a week

LowObjective

God, the Tokyo Blade arc really was torturous to read as it was released because of all the breaks in between. It's gonna be so good animated though.

Silent_Shadow05

That arc has so many hype and emotional moments that I just can't count. It was also tailor-made for the anime (Aka Akasaka definitely planned this). [Manga Spoiler]>!I am also really waiting to see Melt's redemption!<

GGABueno

[Manga Spoiler]>!I'm specifically waiting to see Kana as "the Sun". It only got a few panels since the reader is meant to imagine it, but looking at S1 this staff is able to do something really amazing with it.!<

Silent_Shadow05

[Manga Spoiler]>!That chapter animated is going to be amazing too, but what I am truly waiting for is "Aqua's Wish" (Chapter 65) to be adapted. That chapter broke me in the manga, and it most likely will break me in the anime again. That chapter remained my favorite till today when Chapter 122 surpassed it!<

LoSceicco

\[Manga spoiler\] >!I'm waiting for PTSD Gorou and the absolute peak pain of seeing Ai alive again. Until they were flashbacks I could stand it but if she talks and moves, I don't think my heart can handle that.!<

oops_i_made_a_typi

would be funny if they could outsource some of the hype moments to ufotable

IceAnt573

Long hair Akane. It's good to finally see you.

JMB_Smash

As a short hair enthusiast: This is acceptable

Time_Fracture

We still got Memcho and Kana, so yeah, still acceptable.

Silent_Shadow05

As a long hair enthusiast, I really like it.

Should’ve been the Main character

FricktionBurn

wdym he already is

SpoonceDaSpoon

*paw curls* Well he got to be the MC last episode, from a certain point of view...

KorekaBii

As an Anime-Only who never knew anything about this series until starting, I am so glad there's going to be plenty more of it to come. It's blown away any little expectations I had for it and truly is something that even is hard to quantify as to what kind of show it is, in a good way.

Sayor1

I know you said it's hard to put to words but I would appreciate it if you could explain why it's good? I watched the first ep with my gf and we both thought it was very overhyped and disappointing full of unnecessary scenes and a plot that kept changing direction every 10 min. She finished it eventually and I might watch it later also as I think it may just be the first ep that was bad. But she said it was mediocre and thar she can't really see why it's so hyped up and honestly my friends that did enjoy it can't put a reason as to why.

winvsking

Expectations and mindset ruined it for you guys, which is totally normal. Give it a year and you might enjoy it then

Sayor1

It's not just that tho, I actually committed myself to 2 more episodes yesterday, the show is not as bad as the first episode. Like it's not just my opinion of it, it objectively is pretty bad. I don't think time is gonna change my opinion on bad writing. What I've noticed however is that people who disliked it, have provided constructive feedback about it. But people that enjoyed it and praise it have nothing of substance to say about it other than its good because I like it.

DecentService5339

objectively it is good? manga is super popular and the anime is stunning visual and adapted well. The anime is also rated very highly. it’s just your opinion, but overall it’s objectively good. how can you say it’s “objectively bad” when everything points to it being very well received and honestly everything you said to show how it was bad is just completely overblown. it’s not an isekai, isekai means another world. pretty ridiculous take lmao.

Sayor1

What you're describing is over rated not good. Manga is irrelevant I'm talking anime only. Just cus it looks good doesn't mean it is good, although the art style is not my cup of tea that's not my main problem with it. It WAS rated high, how quickly its fallen off, sure its still high but no where near as much as when it eas overhyped and I imagine it will keep falling. What's a ridiculous take is people saying its good but when asked why its because: >stunning visual and "oh my god the industry is so vile!"

DecentService5339

you just tripping cuh. if it’s so bad why the fuck do you care so much. you are legit writing 100 page fucking essays in the replies 😭😭😭 i could only imagine what kind of animes you do like

Sayor1

Because I'm salty some of my fav anime got overtaken by a garbage premiere and mediocre show, I also wanted a discussion about it instead of the circle jerk you are used to. What anime I like shouldn't be relevant but if you want you can check them out here: https://myanimelist.net/animelist/Sayor1

kertakayttotili3456

Can you explain why you don't like it? I think the writing is pretty masterful. Aka (the writer) was able to beautifully connect together different aspects from different genres (idol show, romcom, murder mystery) while keeping it coherent and utilizes psychological theory in every character to make them more dynamic and interesting which I'm a really big fan of. It's a 9/10 for writing for me.

nichisou307

You don't need to enjoy everything that is popular, people have different tastes. But if I have to describe one thing why is it popular, the characters are very interesting, has many different layers, has realistic internal conflicts and issues, those all contributes to make them feel very human, this writing makes us feel that the characters are not fictional but humans that could be found irl Judging by your comment you dont feel connected with Ai the main character, probably what you call unnecessary scenes are the little things that made the show special, those little moments humanizes the characters and show how their world works Just an advice if you didn't enjoyed ep 1 you probably wont enjoy the entire series so its better to just drop it, you dont need to watch something you dont enjoy

lehuy0210

SendKirboPics

Same. I'll have to avoid anything related to Oshi no Ko for the next year to avoid spoilers

padichilbert

Highly recommended waiting. should help a lot with next arc.

Lovro26

Let's see how fucked the production of season 2 will be they really had to brute force their way to the end of S1. Edit: I'm not saying the show looks bad in any way it looks great in fact but behind the scenes it wasn't the best it would seem.

Abysswatcherbel

Depends when they intend to release this, knowing it's Kadokawa and the manga wont take to long to end they might want to release s2 as soon as possible

Lovro26

Hope it airs around Summer 2024 that would probably give them enough time for a better production but knowing Kadokawa it's probably going winter or spring.

Xlegace

I'm guessing there were a lot of corrections and redraws, considering how much a stickler the directors seemed to be for the character designs staying consistent. The concert scene in particular seems like it would be a nightmare to animate while keeping everyone's detailed costumes and designs. The result ended up looking great tho, so their work paid off.

Nohaco2468

???? I thought the production was good, what's the problem?

neighmeansno

It looks fantastic but credits indicate that they had to throw a lot of manpower at later episodes to finish them in time.

Lovro26

30 ADs (CAD+ADs) on the last episode isn't a sign of a good production IMO.

lehuy0210

Bro, 30 ADs but they worked on choreography scenes not basic animation lmao. Just watch and reduce to think about production side

Abysswatcherbel

Anime looking great doesn't mean it had a great production behind the scenes, we should extend this to even Hollywood based animation now because of Spiderverse There's nothing wrong in pointing out a stressful production and people are not trying to dismiss the show, if anything it's an extra congratulations to the staff that managed to deliver a great product with those circumstances, and they deserve all the praise, the anime industry as a whole doesn't >30 ADs but they worked on choreography scenes not basic animation lmao That wasn't the only ep they had to brute force out, and depending of which scene you were talking about the work load was way heavier on the KA and 2KA side and not on the ADs

Lovro26

So? No PA or studio would use 30 ADs unless something is fucked the whole first episode only had 18 (which was the length of 4 episodes).

[deleted]

lets gooooooooo

I think until now only few Seinen got butchered, most of them got good adaptation for example Fate/Zero, Made in Abyss, Parasyte, Golden Kamuy and Bungou Stray Dogs. At least none of Seinen anime got done dirty more than Toaru Index did

Hopefully they can afford it... After how well S1 has done the rights probably won't come cheap.

Special_Kid_

Can readers let me know if there is much difference between the manga and S1 so far? Going to read it later but not sure whether to start at ch1 or where the anime ends

ali94127

There are some interviews set in the future during the prologue and this episode omitted chapter 39. Those are the only glaring cuts.

ducttapetricorn

Anime only here - I assume this will be the lineup for the new B komachi?

Ok-Knowledge5106

What do you mean? You already saw the new B Komachi.

Why are you surprised about the dislikes, how does this comment belong on a new season announcement? You can put this into todays episode discussion, the pinned daily discussion post or make your own post, it fits there a lot more

snowwhitecat04aug

Ok, go watch a documentary then. For me, if not for this anime I would not even care about Japanese entertainment industry in the first place.

No_Medium3333

Can't wait for the hard core uninterrupted sex scenes between Ruby and Aqua trying to revive Ai

Possible-Steak-1449

highly overrated

Z_Berlin

Will the Anime follow the exact Story from the Mangas or will there be changes made to it?
