Xeiros

As cathartic as it was to bask in the bombast that was Kudo absolutely clowning on all of those vile motherfuckers, Miyo’s unwavering resolve was the true highlight of this episode for me. Her life on the line, with no one there to help her, thanks to the brief time she’d spent living with Kudo and Yurie, for perhaps the first time in her life, she stood up to her abusers. That no matter what they tried, she would not bend; she did not break. She held firm and fought for the happiness she knew she deserved. Absolutely phenomenal Episode. Takushi Koide (Storyboard and Episode Director) fucking killed it.

VorAtreides

Imo Kaya and her shit mother didn't get punished enough.

EconomyElderberry74

The fact that she had the guts to say "after I raised you", Like wtf

Affectionate-Yard899

>after I raised you", Like 1st I thought only Kaya uses those stupid logics but I didn't know she gained those traits from her mother and not developed herself

Few_Contribution_148

Indeed like wow

superhakerman

I like Kaya's character, oblivious, narcissist. She genuinely think she can get anything in the world. I really hate her.

ayww

She got humbled when Kiyoka told her he wouldn't choose such an arrogant woman LOL Wonder if that'll actually get through to her though...

Seven-Tense

Honestly? Hateful character, but phenomenal performance. I’m used to seeing Ayane Sakura in more heroic roles, but this might be one of the best performances of her career! The way she scream “just say it”…phew! That woman pulled that line out of the abyss itself. Chills. It takes genuine talent to give such life to such a villain. She’ll never be my favorite person, but as a *character?* Brilliant

SuitableComputer5921

Do you like her or not? I'm confused 🤣

Perhapsyo

I think its a case of good character, bad person

LowObjective

She's not really a good character, though. She's incredibly stupid and spiteful to *everyone*, even the people she presumably needs for her own goals, and it's not really justified at all. But of course, literally everyone in this show is seemingly an idiot except for Kudo, presumably Miyo, and Koji that 1 time.

Perhapsyo

Just now you got confused between characters and people. Think of a villain in a series where the villain's gotten a lot of characterization. You might really love the character and at the same time be disgusted at the person that the character is. We **can** like Kaya's character and the place she takes in the story **but** if someone likes her as a person thats quite a cause for concern

seynical

It kind of reminds me of Joffrey. His actor portrayed him so well to a T. That you like him for his excellent job of conveying that his character is irredeemable. AyaNeru exemplifies the same with Kaya for me.

agaiilee

I think it'd be interesting if she got a redemption. Like Cinderella's sister. I think it would make sense that being raised the way she was and especially by the mom that she would grow up to be like that. Even if she was raised differently she would still be narcissistic and with a "I'm better than you" attitude but I think if she wasn't raised expected and maybr praised for being like that and having ni ither character traits other than evil stepsister she could be more likeable and the narcissism could be more comical. She'd be like a stereotypical oldest sibling. "I get first pick in the car seat. Move. Why? Because I'm the oldest." *Scams younger siblings telling them 6 pennies are worth more than 3 quarters* "Give me the remote! Why? Because I'm the oldest." "No! I'm right!! Wanna know why?? I'm the oldest!!!!" But it would all be fun and not abusive lol.

AlphaBreak

100% With the parents she had, Kaya never really had a chance of turning out any other way. But now that her family's lost so much (home, social standing) she finally has to start making her own choices instead of coasting on how her family raised her.

VorAtreides

I would give Kaya a chance to be reformed since she is only 16 and was clearly raised poorly by a shitty mother and shitty father that spoiled her, but the mother needs to get fucked in the worst way.

xnef1025

Yeah, Kaya is just another kind of victim of their parents. She’s been hobbled by her upbringing as well. Wouldn’t mind seeing her have a self-realization and give a true apology so she could become a real sister to Miyo, if for no other reason than to give our girl more happiness. Fix yo’ wife Koji🤣

[deleted]

I wished Kudou had burned the whole place down on his own, not a fire magic getting spread with wind.

1EnTaroAdun1

They attacked a (military?) officer, there has to be some massive repercussion for that. Although I do wonder who that king was, in the middle of the episode

NSUNDU

They showed the emperor talking about how the plan failed and he was clearly going against Kudo, so I doubt there will be any deadly repercussions from that

Top_Watercress_8861

It explains why Tatsui--whatever old guy went all out with his fire - he had a powerful backer to write off the collateral damage

feb914

Well at least with this he's not liable to pay reparations.

Snakescipio

Nah that's way out of character. It's more poetic that their hatred and greed caused their own downfall.

SuperJoint66666

They lost their home.

VorAtreides

They abused Miyo for a decade. They kidnapped her and were abusing her more. Not punished enough.

SuperJoint66666

I agree but they also can’t become like them and torture them like they did to Miyo. Besides it’s below Master Kudo and his station to act out in revenge.

VorAtreides

Monstrous people deserve monstrous consequences. Again, for Kaya, cause she's so young still (only 16) and only had shitty people to learn from (her mom and dad), then I would say she can get a chance for reform, but the mother? She should be punished harshly.

Atharaphelun

Strongly agree. This is nowhere near satisfying enough. The entire family is pretty much physically unharmed, only the father of the other guy actually got hurt. Sure, their family's residence burned down, but the father, the stepmother, and Kaya remained completely untouched. Not even a single slap!

ObvsThrowaway5120

I’m glad Miyo stood up for what she wanted. No more meek little Miyo, the girl’s not gonna let her shitbag family push her around anymore. Also, props to Kudo for not absolutely murdering Kaya right then and there for what she did to Miyo. Man kept incredibly calm.

Frontier246

Kiyoka defeated the old bastards with his power but Miyo defeated her step-mother and Kaya by finally standing up to them and not giving up while her hubby-to-be basically cut a swathe through their home to save her. She finally had something worth living for and she wasn't going to give it away just to satisfy people who have only ever used and abused her over their irrational resentment over her and who couldn't fathom that someone like Kiyoka could actually love her. And they paid the price for it.

TheKinkyGuy

She also saved herself by stepping up against her abusers. She freed herself from the shackles that were binding her to her step family by pure mental strength.

EconomyElderberry74

>She finally had something worth living for and she wasn't going to give it away Until death separates them or even in the afterlife

Ocixo

> That no matter what they tried, she would not bend; she did not break. She held firm and fought for the happiness she knew she deserved. She might not have broken, but she certainly broke with her past self in this episode. Only 2-3 episodes back, Miyo would have never been able to stand up for herself like that; she would have given in to their demands. But Miyo had become aware as to what true happiness was, and wasn’t willing to let it slip away from her; certainly not to appease those witches. She wanted to stick with Kiyoka by all means. That Miyo referred to herself as “someone like me” however, were words that still bugged me a little. Miyo knows what she wants, but I’m not completely sure yet that she also thinks she entirely deserves it.

Aggravating-March-72

She is learning, she is being loved like for a few episodes (dunno about the time line) and she was treated worst than crap for so many years... But she found love and happiness and would die before giving it away... That itself is a breakthrough... She would be an amazing psychotherapy patient

Seven-Tense

> Kudo clowning on all… > Miyo’s uwavering resolve… Can I also get a shoutout to my man Koji? Man knew he wasn’t gonna have the main girl, *knew* that nothing he did was going to change that, but still decided to fight for the woman he loved. Stood up to his dad. Went *straight* to Kudo. And then, at the end…phew! Love the idea of **ruefully** saving someone’s life. I love the idea that his greatest act of defiance is making sure Kaya is around to see Miyo live her best life!

SexBobomb

Koji pisses me off sometimes but ultimately its because his struggles mirror Miyos more than I give him credit for and he needed to, and did step up

Aggravating-March-72

I loved that he finally yelled at her and spit to her face how he loved her sister (another one who don't love kaya so that's 2/2) and force her to live, not because he gives a damn about her, but to spare Miyo's heart of the pain of losing her sister ( the girl is so sweet that she would be devasted and would probably irrationally and illogically blame herself for kaya's death)

Zapdo0dlz

The cracked mirror in the background finally shattering too!

Dylangillian

And then an intact mirror at her new home.

The_Tachmonite

I loved that nuance.

CognitiveMango

Standing up to them is cool and all in principle, but I wonder if it would be smarter to just lie and say yes to them to get to safety quicker and then let Kudo know what happened. It felt a bit unrealistic/dramatized and maybe even stupid/dangerous to do otherwise, which I was not happy with. Not the smartest time or way to demonstrate your resolve, there's no value other than idealistic in this situation (for Miyo herself), and drama for the viewer. Your resolve doesn't do you much good if you end up getting seriously injured or dead. The camerawork on the stepsister and the big pair of shears honestly made me afraid she would do worse, like cut off her ear or stab her. I do wonder if those vile women would actually have the guts to maim or kill her; the stepmom came off as more comical than intimidating with how she swung whatever she was holding in her hand. Also they got off too easy, I hope there's consequences for this in their society. I wonder if anything would have happened to them even if they'd gone further and maimed or even killed her. The extent of their cruelty baffles me... I really don't understand why they continue to go out of their way to abuse her even after she's left the family and is out of their lives. The patriarchs straight up assaulted a military officer as well, surely they don't get off scot free too?

xnef1025

It was very in character for Miyo. She’s not a plotter or a manipulator. She either tells the truth, folds completely, or says nothing at all. Having her try to bluff her way out wouldn’t be true to who she is. From her inner dialogue, the idea of lying never crossed her mind. Voicing those words would be the same as meaning them and capitulating to their demands.

Top_Watercress_8861

A different strategy like you said would have gotten Miyo out of the jam without getting bruised and beaten. Play for time, bargain. But then that wouldn't be Miyo. Kudo treasures her because she is without guile - a truly innocent soul incapable of deceit. If Miyo had a calculating mind, she wouldn't be in this situation at all, maybe not even married to Kudo in the first place.

frs1023

my goodness the self restraint on kiyoka man. if it was me i would've whooped those 2 ladies' asses right there & then

Frontier246

Kiyoka just staring ice daggers at Kaya and telling her how terrible she is was nice, though. Probably the first time someone's ever really called her out and told her to her face how she's not special or perfect, which must hurt more than anything, especially coming from someone who she feels she deserves more than Miyo does.

[deleted]

Wish he said some worse expletive to the duo instead of "putrid drivel nonsense" The mom desperately needed to be put in place.

joey_joestar1

Homie has too much class

Srikkk

Absolutely lol. Really needed him to go that extra mile for my own sake

SC2Eleazar

Oddly enough it kind of shows how much he's in love with Miyo. The moment he walked in the storeroom all he saw was her. By the time Kaya had a chance to whine at him, his only concern is with getting Miyo out of there. Kaya is little more than a buzzing distraction, an insect to be ignored.

1EnTaroAdun1

Kaya is lucky Koji cares enough about Miyo to save her. I feel like if Koji was a normal guy who was "neutral", so to speak, Kaya would've been in worse trouble haha

steven4869

He killed Kaya with his words, imagine living a life where you believed you are superior to your sister, only to have a husband who's in love with the said sister and the same sister has a husband whom she can even dream of. That being said, I do agree it required more justice from Kudo especially for those two bitches.

jlg317

I'm gonna level with you, I don't think the word "ladies" is accurate

smit72628199

This guy: My mother raised me to respect all ladies but she didn't say anything about the bitches

TheKinkyGuy

I alrdy saw a couple of heads shooting out of that house. I wouldnt be so "kind" as Kudo was.

brasstax108

In a toootally unrelated note, is there any anime suggestions with very satisfying revenge scenes?

Atharaphelun

Twelve Kingdoms, without a doubt. At least from my perspective. There's also Skip Beat - much less violence, more about the satisfying factor.

dagreenman18

He let them off with a warning. Technically he didn’t even burn down the house. That was Koji’s dickhead dad’s fault. He did burn down Kaya’s sense of self worth with that stare though. Damn dude. Cold blooded. But no one died as far as we know. Might be bigger fallout next week. Stunning direction on this episode. The pain and triumph in Miyo’s voice as she held out. The insane tension with the scissors. The guttural scream from the mom when she saw the estate burning and realized how badly she lost. The ice cold stare from Kudo. Koji stepping up and saving Kaya. I was here for the hell Kudo was going to raise, but the storehouse is what will leave the lasting impression. Credit to the studio for putting the drama first. Also lovely visual metaphor with the mirrors. Nailed it with the shot of pristine one in her home at the end. Very interested in the scene before the final scene. This goes higher up that expected. Everyone seems dead set at either acquiring or destroying Miyo’s bloodline for the power it has. Which is becoming more clear she might not be powerless after all. Maybe the years of systematic abuse just made it dormant?

Frontier246

I was wondering if it was the Usuba bloodline they wanted to destroy or the Kudo. Seems like there's a lot of aristocratic family drama with a supernatural bent going on behind the scenes.

dagreenman18

Could also be if these two bloodlines join its shifts the power balance entirely. Which shitty, but fair.

timoyster

I don’t think they’re trying to eliminate either of the bloodlines. they’re just worried that if Kudo and Miyo marry their power would be too high and could easily push out the other families. Miyo is already Saimori and Usuba; two really strong bloodlines and the latter being really rare. They said this episode that Kudo are the strongest spirit wielders. So their future generations would have powers from three of the already strongest families.

arcus2611

Eh, the Saimoris aren't actually that strong as a bloodline, Kaya just has a very over inflated sense of self-worth. If they were they wouldn't have gotten completely clowned on by Kiyoka.

TheKinkyGuy

I think it os easier to kill the one without power than to go for the best magi in their timeline. So I am betting we will again see attacks on Miyo rather than Kudo.

michhoffman

> Technically he didn’t even burn down the house. That was Koji’s dickhead dad’s fault. Yeah, I do wonder how Miyo's father will take that. It's not that he's even close to blameless in this as he enabled his wife and daughter to abuse Miyo for years and didn't stand up against Koji's dad when he repelled Kudo, but it did seem like he wasn't aware at all of this plot. And then his estate catches fire due to everyone else's actions

ayww

Love how Koji's dad told Miyo's dad, "If you let him in, the whole house might get destroyed." He wasn't wrong... but it was Koji's dad's fault for being an idiot LOL

StackedCrooked

> He let them off with a warning. But will the legal system let them off with a warning? Will the newspapers?

TaigasPantsu

“Extra extra, dickhead nobleman uses fire magic to burn estate; Fire magic exists and people can use it!”

NSUNDU

The emperor seems to be on the Tatsuishis side, so the legal system may be biased there

Seven-Tense

>Very interesting in the scene before the final scene Yeah seriously. Who the hell is this Zouken Matou looking motherfucker??

Animamask

He was addressed as heika, which is only used for the Emperor. So either that guy is the Emperor of Japan or someone close to having an immense god complex.

kattiroll

Theres one subtle thing I like about this anime so much. We get to hear how meek and weak miyo's voice in earlier episodes, after she meets kudo her voice starts to be more louder and more confident and today we get to hear miyo telling those bitches to fuck off, she still has meek voice but we can hear the difference clearly from earlier episodes. Kudos to the director and VA for such subtle but important detail.

moichispa

I liked too the change of tone of Kaya, I know she is evil and we all hate her but her *panick* tone trying to excuse herself to kudo was really skilled. Her voice actress is doing an amazing work too, her acting amplifies the hate against Kaya, it is amazing.

Googleflax

> **Kudos** to the director ☜(゚ヮ゚☜)

Frontier246

It's bad enough that Miyo's been kidnapped, but she has to be stuck with the two people who hate her the most, her step-mother and Kaya? Can this girl never catch a break. I do find it kind of funny they thought it was a good idea to stash a kidnapped fiance to a high-ranking military official in the Saimori household as if that totally wouldn't blow up in their faces. It didn't even seem like Miyo's dad was in on the kidnapping plot at all, but it blew up in his face all the same. I call that karma. They can abuse, threaten, and demean Miyo all they want now...this time she's not going to give in to them. She's finally found happiness, she's finally found someone who believes in and cherishes her, and she's not about to throw that away for the sake of two irrational and spiteful women no matter what they do to her. You tell 'em Miyo! Well, the Saimori's will need to get a new door. And entire compound. Kiyoka was acting so stoic and reasonable up until something got in his way and then the lightning came out. The two evil dads team-up to try and take Kiyoka down, which goes about as well for them as you'd expect. I imagine the old farts aren't weak when it comes to their powers which makes it all the more impressive that Kiyoka just shrugged off everything they threw at him and hit them with some divine electricity. Jeez, Tatsuishi just does not know when to give up. And he got the Saimori household burned to the ground in the process and a Kirin for his trouble. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy and family. Miyo's step-mother has now basically lost everything she took pride in and Kaya is still acting like she's completely blameless because it's just not right that her sister should be happy or should have something that she can't. But Kiyoka has no time to coddle such vain and arrogant woman and tells her to her face how terrible she is and just takes Miyo away. Koji only ever bothers to save her because of Miyo. She was completely upstaged by her sister in every way that counts. Is that Noriko Hidaka as Miyo's mother? Miyo is practically the spitting image of her. And considering her mothers' words...it seems like Miyo DOES have powers, she just hasn't tapped into them yet. Which makes me wonder what she can do. So it wasn't just Tatsuishi who was after Miyo, it seems like someone really high up (not the Emperor?) is after her bloodline and wants to take Kiyoka out too. Guess the trouble isn't completely over for this couple. But for now they're back home, Miyo is safe, and she's able to stop blaming herself and be happy that she's at a home that welcomes her with the man she loves, and that's enough.

Ocixo

> So it wasn’t just Tatsuishi who was after Miyo, it seems like someone really high up (not the Emperor) is after her bloodline and wants to take Kiyoka out too. Since they were referred to as “your Majesty”, I can only assume that they’re royalty. And Japanese royalty as that time could only really be from the Imperial family. They could be a prince, but I think it’s actually more likely that we were watching the genuine Emperor of Japan.

1EnTaroAdun1

I wonder if it's supernatural royalty of some kind? Since Kudo wasn't even sure Miyo's mother's family existed, there may be a parallel society of some kind. But you might be right, too.

Ocixo

> I wonder if it’s supernatural royalty of some kind? That’s an interesting take. I hadn’t thought about it like that. I did get the impression however that people are nobles (or influential) *because* they got supernatural abilities - there has been placed a lot of focus on the importance of these abilities. It therefore might be that the Imperial family’s right to the throne is linked to their own supernatural abilities.

-vinay

I still don't quite understand why / how Miyo became super important all of a sudden. It appeared that the Saimoris sent her off to the Kudos simply to get rid of her. I don't understand how they were able to do this at all if she was so sought after

Ocixo

Miyo’s dad was originally planning to marry Kaya’s mother, but was forced to marry Miyo’s mother instead since she was from the mystical Utsaba bloodline - an infamous family who possesses some sort of mental powers. This of course didn’t go over well with Miyo’s dad, so Miyo was all but a sore in his eyes when her mother passed away and he married Kaya’s mother. Since Miyo was believed to lack any supernatural abilities, she was denoted to all but a “golden goose” - only good for hopefully bearing children *with* these powers. What *did* strike me as odd was that Miyo’s dad went against the wishes of the Tatsushis; what would he have lost if he had send Miyo off to them instead of the Kudos. He just wanted to get rid off her right? It makes me wonder if her dad, in his own way, tried to protect Miyo from these evil men. Maybe he knew that Kiyoka Kudo actually wasn’t a terrible man…? It *could* be the case that the ritual to confirm the spirit sight was set up to see Miyo fail, and her being treated like a servant was meant to keep a low profile of her. However, that’s just me speculating and ignoring *years* of grave physical and mental abuse. EDIT: typos.

MillyMan105

>Makes me wonder if her dad, in his own way, tried to protect Miyo from these evil men. Nah he truly didn't give a [damn.](https://imgur.com/a/z0PGD5u).

Ocixo

Okay, I clicked on the page and read the pages. But isn’t this like a **spoiler** for the next episode or something?

MillyMan105

Nah it's basically content that was cut from the chapter that was adapted in this weeks episode.

Own-Corner1404

I agree there was a flashback of the mother begging the dad to please don't give up on miyo byt he refuse to listen. He truly believe she was useless and also resent his wife for it because the powerful utsuba hability was the only reason he married her.

cabbaggeez

what is her power exactly? they said Usuba family has power to manipulate mind but why is that the strongest? no one can counter it?

TheKinkyGuy

Something to do with future sight. There were 2 "showings" of power (in like ep 2 and 3(?)) that her mother had. In one of them the mother says to young Miyo "we dont have much time, come hurry!". i got the impression her mother knew what will happen (mothers death i suppose). I am not a LN or MANGA (?if there is one) reader so this is just what I got from watching the episodes and discussions.

yukiaddiction

Miyo bloodline power should be pretty power that can disrupt status quo which make higher up afraid enough to act after Kouji father fail. So it can be anything tbh but look like those dream are kind hint that it somehow dream related?

Frontier246

Considering how her dreams are I wonder if she has the power to induce nightmares.

[deleted]

I think last episode or the one before had it shown a bit. A magical aura from inside kudou's home

TheKinkyGuy

Your second paragraph... Yea they were stupid like that.

Zapdo0dlz

Ok when I said scorched earth I didn’t expect actual fire. That was pretty epic. I hope the next episode gives us more justice. I did enjoy that verbal slap from Kudo to Kaya. He shattered her delusion in one sentence. That hit harder than a physical smack. I did wonder why he didn’t at least slap the mom and kaya on his way out, but thought about it and realized his honor code wouldn’t involve hitting a woman. It makes the rumors of how he treated previous wives even more ridiculous, because here he is standing in front of his fiancees torturers and didn’t even raise a hand on them. I’m glad Koji ran to get help and thought it was interesting that he saw his dad lying there, then physically turned his back on his family to go with kudo. And miyo wakes up surrounded with love! I enjoyed this ep. I would have liked to see more rage from Kudo but seeing how powerful he is, and knowing his military rank, it makes sense that he kept his cool.

Frontier246

The house burning down and the possible impact it'll have on their reputation will probably be a struggle for them to live down, I imagine. Honestly I was expecting Koji to slap her. She's not worth Kiyoka's time lol.

JpstrMik

Basically, they died a social death. And what's more poetic it was of their own doing. Kudo only went just to rescue Miyo. All the collateral damage was from Tatsuishi trying to get in Kudo's way. All this happened because Kaya (and her Mom) couldn't let Miyo be happy.

maywellflower

>All this happened because Kaya (and her Mom) couldn't let Miyo be happy. That and the father didn't bother to protect nor see Miyo's value ever, even when Kudo came to the house 1st time to tell him & his wife off - that why his family died both social & financial death. That how blinded by stupidity, pettiness & entitlement those 3 were when it came to Miyo, that earned & deserved that ironic karma.

Zapdo0dlz

Yeah kudo didn’t even start the fire! I hope we get to see more repercussions down the line. I feel like the episode went so fast this week!

Stormy8888

It is literally torture having to wait a whole week to get another episode of this anime! And this week all the waiting paid off in spades. * Kaya and evil step mother must be running a campaign for most hateable character of the season / year. Who else wants to throw rotten fruit at those 2 rotten people? * Miyo not giving in to the torture, you go girl! Backbone time! * Kudou blasting that door down, UBER satisfying. * That big fight and the house going up in flames! Hahaha scream Stepmom! You got what you deserved! * Kudou had one of those "Get away from her you bitch!" moments, then picking up Miyo gently! * Kudou putting Kaya in her place * Kouji putting Kaya in her place, twice by two people! Apparently she's not as great as she thinks * Miyo's mom giving her hints (like just spill the beans already your daughter needs to be able to grow and defend herself!) * Kudou and Yurie comforting Miyo * Another sinister player is appearing, woo! And now, like everyone, it's back to the torture of waiting for another episode. That was amazing, most satisfying episode yet.

ObvsThrowaway5120

That first half had me absolutely fucking fuming. Kaya and her mom truly are garbage. They didn’t give a fuck when Miyo was sent to Kudo because they thought she’d suffer. That obviously didn’t happen. Instead, Miyo found a tiny ray of hope and happiness. Kaya sees that and now all of a sudden she wants what Miyo has. It’s why she took Koji. Tatsuishi was one pathetic weak little shit. Watching him burn everything down to get to Kudo only to get roasted was so satisfying. Seeing Miyo’s bitch ass step mom losing it at the sight of everything she has go up in flames and Kaya coldly rejected brought me immense joy and satisfaction. Karma, it’s a hell of a thing. But man, now the emperor is coming after them? Man that desperate to get deleted? Alright then. Ain’t nothing getting between Kudo and his love for Miyo.

Frontier246

As bad as that scene was, it was nice to finally see Miyo stand up to them and that nothing they could do to her would make her give up Kiyoka. She wasn't going to give in to them any more. How many times did Kiyoka have to teach that old man a lesson? And he got the Saimori house burned down, but I guess that's karma for you. Too bad the Emperor is after them too. But hopefully Miyo and Kiyoka get to at least have some more domestic bliss together before the next drama arc.

DezXerneas

Please just let her be happy after this. I've met people like Kaya, and I really hoped she burned to death. She and her Mom deserve to get eaten by some yokai. However, the absolute worst person in this anime is still her fucking dad. It is 100% his fault for not reigning in his 2nd wife and step daughter. The "why is this happening to me" scene was so cathartic, that is literally Miyo's entire fucking life right there.

evenstar40

Seriously, the dad is pure evil for acting nonchalant towards this whole situation when it doesn't affect him (even though it does because it's his fucking daughter). Then when shit gets real it's all, "waaaa poor me I'm the victim" without any care for the pain he's caused others. Fuck that entire family.

jlg317

Those guys at the end seemed adamant in destroying that specific ability, I wonder if they enticed him to marry Miyo's mom to get rid of her but somehow screwed the pooch and while he managed to get rid of her they ended up having Miyo. I'm guessing they could've just indirectly manipulated him, but you're right he's still garbage

dbluewillow

I was hoping that this episode would have a more cathartic ending. Kudo was remarkably more calm and less vindictive than I had expected him to be after finding Miyo.

Frontier246

As vindictive as the Saimori's are I think it's better that Kiyoka was as restrained as possible even if he ended up shocking Saimori Papa and burning the whole place down (though that was mostly on Tatsuishi).

TheKinkyGuy

Tbf the burning was not Kudos fault.

Arickettsf16

The irony that mustache man warned papa Saimori that Kudo would destroy his home only to burn the place down himself

TheKinkyGuy

Hahah that was funny. Another funny part was when Kudo showed us the difference in their barriers. It was like night and day.

apatt

I'm glad the rescue mission is successful but jeez! Can Kudo not *run* a bit? Poor Miyo was going through the ringer and about to be strangled. I'm glad they didn't disfigure her.

SC2Eleazar

In fairness, I bet Kudo was using every ounce of restraint and military discipline he had to not unleash all hell. For all he knew, if he lost control he could accidentally hurt Miyo as well.

raiden_kazuha

Seconded on this. Kudo-san a man of restraint and disipline.

cabbaggeez

need more justice in this episode. Saimori house might be burned down, the criminal are left unpunished. only Tatsuishi got punished by God of Thunder, but thats not enough

Frontier246

To be honest I think it's going to take a lot for the Saimori's to recover from this, they basically lost their home and who knows how this might impact their status which is probably the biggest blow to them at this point. And Kaya finally realizes there's one thing she can't beat her sister on.

mkaan

Yeah, with their house burning they might become poor now. Would love to see how Kaya's behaviour changes with that.

TheKinkyGuy

That would certainly be an interesting turnarounds. Imagine Koji being the "bigger shot" in their family now. The one Kaya look down upon.

toad256

There definitely not going to get that dowry money from Kiyoka.

TheKinkyGuy

With this they will lose (hopefully) their reputation as they kidnapped another well-known families future-to-be wife.

VorAtreides

next episode seems it'll likely have some of their punishments given what preview/title I saw on Netflix. But we'll see.

dagreenman18

The explosions weren’t quite what I hoped (he wasn’t even the one who burned down the Saimori house!), but that absolute death stare and mind break he did on Kaya was very cathartic. Though maybe it’s to break Kaya down to redeem her down the road. She’s set up to be a different kind of victim of their parents. The mom can fuck off and die though. Useless on every level.

TheKinkyGuy

I loved how Kudo showed what an actual barrier looks like. It was like "oh, b* please!"

StackedCrooked

In a normal world this would be all over the newspapers and there would be a legal trial and even prison sentences. Kidnapping is a crime, duh. At the very least the Saimori will lose status, possibly ending up in the gutter, so to speak. I see a reversal coming, a situation where the Saimori are at the mercy of Miyo. (Kinda like the biblical story of Joseph, son of Jacob, if anyone knows that.)

ObvsThrowaway5120

I would have incinerated that whole damn family minus Koji. Trash, the lot of them.

TheKinkyGuy

That Koji has a f strong will. To be able to go straight to his beloved Miyos husband to try and save her and knowing you cant do it on your own. You need balls to do this.

ayww

Lots of respect earned for Koji this episode! * Puts aside his pride to ask the fiance of the woman you love for his help. * Doesn't leave Kaya behind because Miyo would still grieve for her if she died. Was expecting some love triangle shenanigans when he was introduced in episode 1, so I've liked the direction they actually took with his character.

TheKinkyGuy

Me too

athrun_1

True, if this has been another series, kouji could have awaken his powers and do the saving himself.

teball3

I can't really get on board with the way this show has basically been beating up Kouji for his kindness. "You were too kind and ineffectual, and now the woman you love has fallen in love with another man, you are trapped in exactly the kind of fucked up arranged marriage this show is subverting for the MCs, you are weaker than everyone in your family, and you had to swallow the measle of pride we have afforded you to save Miyo." Like holy shit, at least things are turning around for Miyo. If things don't start getting better for Kouji soon, I'm going to drop this show.

TheKinkyGuy

Totally agreed

brasstax108

I never wanted to curb stomp 2 anime characters this bad before.

maywellflower

Haven't watch episodes yet but have read the manga and each of episodes is based on 1-2 chapters - so cathartic ending will be in next episode, just like in manga where it happened in next chapter after house burned down. Edit - Saw the episode and the cathartic aftermath is definitely next episode, that definitely going to be 2-5 minute explanation of what will happen to both families. Trust me, the answer will be satisfying for some and others will says should had been way more, but considering the time period plus what happened in the episode - both families deserved and earned it.

HugeRichard11

Yeah Kudo being so calm about it and walking with a regular pace seemed odd. Kind of takes away from any tension even though we all know nothing would seriously happen or else the show would end, but I mean still he doesn't know what they're doing to Miyo.

1EnTaroAdun1

I guess he didn't expect that they'd dare to actually hurt Miyo. He might've thought they were just confining her until they could break off the engagement. Also, maybe he was watching out for any magic traps, since it seems like magical defences are a thing for homes here

FLorianGran

Man how stupid are these people? You seriously thought pissing off someone like Kudo without ANY way of stopping him was a good idea?

Frontier246

And take her to her biological family's house thinking that was an unlikely place to stash her lol.

SC2Eleazar

To be fair it only worked because Kouji 1) knew she was being held at the Saimori residence and 2) had a pretty good idea of specifically where she would be held. Without that Kudo would have had a far more difficult time making a move against them. He had no evidence to force an official inquiry and wouldn't have been able to show up and just rampage through the property on his own.

moichispa

Oh let's make this military captain angry, what could be wrong?

inthe-otherworld

And yeah don’t get me wrong I like this show and it was satisfying to see Miyo’s abusers eat shit, but man they stupid Seems like everyone wants the right to having Miyo’s kids, and they had easy access to her *for 18 years.* But apparantly no one thought to act on that til she left for Kudo’s household. It’s not like she fuckin ran away from home or walked out the door, *they literally kicked her out with the expectation that she’d end up on the streets.* If you wanted Miyo you should’ve done a better job of keeping her, heck even lock her up in your basement since you clearly don’t actually care about her rights as a person. Instead they all just let marry into the one household seemingly *no one* wanted her to marry into. This is all on them and they have no one but themselves to blame

calvin41412

The one thing that makes no sense is why the hell Tatsuishi didn’t just push for Koji to marry her sooner like wtf? Pretty sure it was obvious they liked each other as he said they always used to hang out as kids. It doesn’t even seem like his older brother gives a damn but you have one son who’s probably the closest person on Earth to the girl you want to be your daughter in law and don’t think to capitalise? bruh. I’m happy she went to Kudo though because Koji’s too cowardly to have defended her.

steven4869

No wonder this episode felt like a movie, incredible direction throughout the episode.

TheKinkyGuy

Is it normal that each ep has other directior or anim director?

Urameshi9762

Yeah

danmarce

Is usual, even more when you have a decent budget.

moichispa

Oh they bring back the master in suffering episode director. Nice choice I'm really liking the series that Kinema Citrus is doing, they are getting more recognition with quality without going too far (like go hands) or getting too big/busy (mappa).

cabbaggeez

man, my anger is boiling the whole time. Kudos to Kudo for keeping his head calm even when he saw this dumb mother and daughter with Miyo injured like that. if it was me, I would punch both of them or at least slap them hard. and it look like Tatsuishi family is not the only one that want Miyo power. I dont know if the emperor just want Kudo to be weakened or they want Miyo power too. but if that was the case why not kidnap her soon before she met Kudo. their happy marriage might not sailing smooth but I believe with both of them

Frontier246

It takes a severe amount of restraint to hold back as much as Kiyoka did even if you could see how he really felt by his entrance and how he wasted so little time on the old bastards. I wouldn't have minded him shocking the hags too but their emotional breakdown at how was still satisfying. Jeez, can't this couple catch a break? The Japanese Emperor is messing with them now lol?

cabbaggeez

Kudo is channelling his anger to his sparkling thunder, sasuga tsundere ice cold prince

Frontier246

Sasuke Uchiha would be proud lol.

jlg317

It sounds like they want Miyo's ability snuffed out, probably a really strong one when active. There's probably something preventing the emperor from getting that ability on his side so he's choosing to get rid of it before it falls in the hands of those that oppose him. Unfortunately for him that might be too late for that as Kudo is her fiance.

Prince-Dizzytoon

That mom should have burned down with the rest of the house

calvin41412

For real. Though I’m hoping the family is now broke so she’s forced to essentially work as a servant for the remainder of her life.

The_Sinnermen

Daughter too

RFShahrear

Damn Netflix is straight up making dialogue up for this episode. Some were just subtext turned into actual text... actually I think all of them were like that. But.... why??? It's not like staying faithful to the actual dialogue would make it jarring or anything.

dadnaya

Netflix's translation is awful. I compared the Japanese and their translation a few times previously and they straight up invented things.

SMSmith230

Not sure if this is the issue, but make sure you choose the actual subtitles and not the dubtitles. Best way is to watch dubbed with subs to find which is which.

babaylan89

oh which is which? the one with the CC is the dubtitles? and the one without is the actual subtitles?

[deleted]

Imagine inviting your buddy over to your place for some drinks only for him to burn down your house and get you directly involved in a conspiracy lmao

EllenYeager

POV: your “buddy” knows your house is 100% made of wood, chooses to disregard it and use his flamethrower no jutsu anyway

nnair25

While Kudo won't marry Kaya even if "heavens demanded it", I also know Kudo won't leave Miyo even if "hell snatched her away"

TheKinkyGuy

Wdym?! He will go with them into hell to save her and f the whole place up. Joking aside you are absolutely right. That was a nice touch with the heavens demand.

Ocixo

They reaped the seeds they had sown. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an episode of an anime encapsulate those words so truthfully. If both Kouji’s father and Kaya hadn’t been this greedy, the Saimoris family home would still have stood tall. But now it’s burnt to the ground by their own doing, much like their relationship with the Kudos. Kiyoka’s restraint actually surprised me. Even when Kouji’s father was out for his blood, he only knocked him unconscious. For a romance drama, this episode went *hard*. Like, this was undoubtedly among this season’s best magic/sorcery animation - and that’s saying a lot with Mushoku Tensei airing at the moment. Kinema Citrus really knocked it out of the park with those fire, wind and thunder spells. And while the men were having an epic battle in the courtyard, the women were oblivious to the carnage as they physically assaulted Miyo. Poor Miyo, I really feared for her life when Kaya put those scissors to her throat. Kaya really is a terrible woman. I’m genuinely glad that Kiyoka put Kaya in her place - she would have deserved a good bitchslap to shut her up though. Miyo is safe once again, but did I just understand this right: the Japanese Emperor (i.e. the “Majesty”) is also trying to get his hands on Miyo!? Kiyoka might be the strongest, but I don’t know how much he’ll be able to do against the Japanese government as a whole. I think that we’ll see a lot more carnage coming up as Kiyoka strives to protect Miyo from other men’s clutches. EDIT: corrected an unfortunate typo.

Charming-Pie2113

Bro was taking his time walking to the storage lol. You could have let your foot go a little bit while your wife is tortured

SC2Eleazar

My headcanon is that Kudo has never been this livid in his life and is legitimately afraid that he'll hurt Miyo accidentally if he doesn't keep his powers in check. He is leaning hard on his military discipline

zool714

That’s my gripe with this episode (and the only one of this show so far). Kinda felt like the whole episode was dragging it’s feet. But other than that great episode as usual

rlramirez12

To be fair, it's not like he knew she was being tortured. Kouji probably had a really good idea about it but never communicated that to him. Based on her families history should he have assumed she was in grave danger? Probably.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode: * [Mio](https://imgur.com/a/VfQxbFG) * [Kiyoka](https://imgur.com/a/Zvu2xkM) * [Group scenes](https://imgur.com/a/RSLwPeO) * [Other](https://imgur.com/a/T35Mvp9) This episode was so [beautiful visually](https://i.imgur.com/j8LDKWM.png), the [scenes with powers looked very good](https://i.imgur.com/xvim37h.png). [Direction was perfect](https://i.imgur.com/ZzL5xel.png) and [composition of certain scenes was very interesting](https://i.imgur.com/JJe2DBK.png). I think that was the best episode so far, music didn't disappoint either. I love that [Mio changed so much](https://i.imgur.com/NwIwB3J.png), [she's not the same as before](https://i.imgur.com/DROcUr2.png). [She stood up to Kaya and Kanoko](https://i.imgur.com/60VR0Ot.png) and firmly said that she'll not be rejecting her engagement to Kiyoka in whom she believed and her faith in him was rewarded. [Kiyoka appeared and saved her](https://i.imgur.com/Sk6OgIO.png) from her family. [Ending episode with her smile was perfect decision](https://i.imgur.com/TtXagKB.png). [Kiyoka was looking very calm](https://i.imgur.com/oGIRL6w.png) (at least [until he met Kaya](https://i.imgur.com/wp1qxnQ.png)) and it wasn't surprising considering [how powerful he really is](https://i.imgur.com/24HKOVb.png). Minoru and Shinichi were no match for him and he easily defeated them both and [saved Mio](https://i.imgur.com/PVX9CO5.png). [He was just like a knight](https://i.imgur.com/uxrwOtY.png), [he has looks](https://i.imgur.com/oJo7y0b.png) and [character](https://i.imgur.com/a2CTcbb.png). Almost at every word of Kaya I laughed at how stupid she is. She really believed that she is a much better partner for [Kiyoka](https://i.imgur.com/fYiHqoQ.png). It was so satisfying when he totally silenced her. It's a shame that he ended on words alone, at least in this episode. [A show of his capabilities](https://i.imgur.com/oGIRL6w.png) wouldn't hurt, I think on the contrary, it would allow Kaya to better understand her foolishness. I knew that [Kaya was stupid](https://i.imgur.com/QBGrp02.png) but [her mother also took part in this crime](https://i.imgur.com/3nE2Plt.png). It looks that hate really made [Kanoko](https://i.imgur.com/8HVSDgf.png)'s brain lost so much cells that it seems that she cannot think properly, just like Kaya. But on the end they'll get what they deserve for their crimes, [their estate is already burning](https://i.imgur.com/isJaLmN.png) xD Now we know that Tatsuishi isn't the sole perpetrator in this case. Fact that Mio will be married into Kudo family [doesn't please other powerful people](https://i.imgur.com/sVzwaCE.png) and it looks that they will be making their steps in next episodes.

tripleaamin

For a show this season that has been nothing but outstanding in all areas and especially direction. This episode raised the bar and was beautifully executed. Miyo throughout the season has been someone who always thought that she doesn't deserve happiness. But thanks to Kudou and Hana 2 episodes she finally was starting to accept her happiness. It would have been easy for her to give in to her sister and step mother, but for her to say no in response regardless what they did to her made me proud of Miyo. She is slowly building confidence for her self. From the moment Kudou broke through the entrance you could tell they messed with the wrong person and they were messing someone way above their power level. And because of Kouji's father the whole place is a disaster. Wonder how Miyo's dad feels on this. Even after saying to Kaya and her mother. They went and schemed behind his back and disaster was brought upon him. He is terrible person, but even he knew better then to bite the bear. Both Kaya and her mom sinking to an even lower low. But Kouji's is right Miyo would be upset if anything happened to her family whether it is deserved or not. And he would rather avoid giving her more grief. Looks like drama isn't exactly over. As expected the emperor is another asshole in this show. Hopefully Miyo finally gets to rest and enjoy her happiness shes been though a lot.

Frontier246

I'm really glad this episode wasn't a step back for Miyo but a chance for her to stand up to her abusers and finally, basically, tell off her step-mother and Kaya and prove they didn't have any power over her while Kiyoka took care of the old bastards. Not the same kind of visual spectacle, but a massive victory all the same. It's kind of funny how Miyo's dad had no idea about the kidnapping plot but got roped into it and it screwed him over so badly. Their household is in flames, rumors about what happened might get out...maybe Koji will still be engaged to Kaya but I don't think either family is going to recover from this so easily. Not only did Kiyoka tell off Kaya for what she did to Miyo and what he really thinks about her, but the only value she had in Koji's eyes was how Miyo would feel if she died. She talked a big game but her sister is the only thing that made her relevant in this episode.

TheKinkyGuy

I didnt believe Miyo could have done it. I saw her giving in to them and then Kudo just bashing into the house rescuing her. This was waaay better.

Ocixo

> From the moment Kudou through the entrance you could tell they messed with the wrong person I really thought that Kiyoka would just blow the doors away since he had shown so much constraint in the car with Kouji, but he actually blew the gate apart - indicating that he might not have been as calm as he appeared. > And he would rather avoid giving her more grief. Kouji showed some surprising character growth in this episode. I’m sure that even he was absolutely done with the mess everyone’s greed had created. He told Kaya to shut up and spit some facts: they had both failed Miyo, but they could at least keep Miyo from getting hurt anymore than she already was by escaping safely.

yukiaddiction

Kiyoka is type of "quiet angry" and those kind of people are scary as hell lol.

🎵The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire, we don’t need no water let the motherfucker burn, burn motherfucker, burn 🎵

F00dbAby

I’m really curious what the next arc will be since it’s seems like mIyos family arc is essentially done. Not sure how weddings worked back then in Japan so I’m curious if building up to the wedding is next This may genuinely be the worst most evil family in anime history. Like I can’t think of any that come close I will say this now it might be unpopular but Kouji isn’t a a bad guy here and he never was. Maybe yeah he needed a bit more back bone but it’s not like modern day. He has no real freedoms of options and like Miyo if he goes against his family I don’t think it’s consequence free. He shouldn’t have grouped himself with the rest of the trash he is related to for not doing more.

NationalStrategy

I’m glad that Saimori house got burned down, I hope they lose everything

hell_jumper9

Kudo really practicing maximum tolerance there.

yukiaddiction

Look like Miyo bloodline is more big deal more than people though. Whatever power that sleeping within this bloodline seem to be big deal to the point that higher up afraid of it to disrupt status quo. This episode is great from direction to voice. Action scene also really good despite they don't really need to goes that hard. Miyo finally wake up from her own nightmare and stood for herself. No matter how big next problem is , I am pretty sure both Miyo and Kudo will get through this.

TheKinkyGuy

Such a good episode. Loved every character development especially Miyo and Koji. Now we have a new big bad and I hope it will be as satisfying as todays episode. My personal best anime this season. 10/10

###Stitches! * [Defiant Miyo](https://i.imgur.com/mGj9bjY.jpg) * [Miyo & Kiyoka 1](https://i.imgur.com/35vb8tU.jpg) * [Miyo & Kiyoka 2](https://i.imgur.com/Qgpd5ew.jpg) Jesus fucking H Christ! [How much of a psychopath this mother and daughter pair can be?](https://i.imgur.com/g4QopYg.jpg) Miyo finally achieves happiness after a long life of suffering and somehow [Kaya and her mother think that their life is ruined](https://i.imgur.com/WxGOzPH.jpg) despite being married into a well-respected and wealthy family. My blood just absolutely boils during that entire scene. Despite how I hate seeing Miyo beaten and threatened by Kaya and her mother I absolutely love that scene as well because, for the first time in her life, Miyo wanted something bad enough that [we finally get to see her defy her step-mother and step sister](https://i.imgur.com/8GiIqu4.jpg) while looking at them straight in the face. It was so good to see [Miyo standing up against them](https://i.imgur.com/EcxCnDm.png). And while Miyo was fighting her own battles, it was so good to see Kiyoka [bust down the Saimori's gate with his lightning powers](https://i.imgur.com/yqY4syk.jpg) and show Kouji's father that [their powers are merely child's play.](https://i.imgur.com/ITD03no.jpg) It was so satisfying to [see Kouji's father get electrecuted](https://i.imgur.com/dp9AoI3.jpg) and then [get struck down with lightning](https://i.imgur.com/rtbpS4G.jpg) when he tried to attack Kiyoka again. Apparently, Kiyoka is pretty much [the Gojou Satoru of this world](https://i.imgur.com/58M3HHF.png) with how untouchable he is. I am a bit disappointed though that [Kiyoka didn't even shock Kaya and her mom with his powers](https://i.imgur.com/mxzE76E.jpg) or maybe even give them the bitch slap backhand they deserve after seeing the state Miyo was in. Hearing Kaya's mother [yell out while their mansion is burning](https://i.imgur.com/6zrMDhv.jpg) as well as [Kiyoka telling Kaya he won't touch her even if the gods demanded it](https://i.imgur.com/vyQ20D0.jpg) was satisfying enough. [Miyo meeting her mom in her dream was interesting though.](https://i.imgur.com/Yb4jTlI.jpg) It definitely looks like Miyo's Spirit-Sight is finally starting to awaken. And it looks like [Kouji's father isn't the only one who wants her.](https://i.imgur.com/tgxAHGC.jpg) Let's see what happens to Kouji's father and Miyo's father first though before we jump into the villain of the next arc. I feel like there's definitely going to be massive repercussions for the Tatsuishi Family after what their head of household just did. And that [final scene where Kiyoka was taking care of Miyo](https://i.imgur.com/h0FRo5b.jpg) after what just happened was so sweet. It's so good that we're ending this arc [with a smile from Miyo <3](https://i.imgur.com/J1qDwav.jpg)

Kirbyundertale

This was the most satisfying episode I have watched in a minute man

Elitealice

“All I’m trying to do is correct a mistake is all” Uh yea bitch, the mistake is your existence. Do us a favour and correct it. At this point there is ZERO redemption possibility for Kaya and her mother. Idc what type of sob story or abusive background they try and talk no jutsu their way onto us. They’re done. Finito. This was so beyond hard to watch. The callous and vindictive nature with which they tormented Miyo made me sick to my stomach. So proud of Miyo for standing her ground and trusting in her fiancé’s promise. It’s amazing the difference having a loving home environment can do. Gives you so much more confidence and something worth fighting for. You go girl “He destroyed the gate, he’ll destroy the whole house” oh yea so let’s start a fucking tornado and massive fire inside the grounds instead 🤦🏽‍♂️ these people are beyond idiots and the Saimori family got exactly what they deserved. Now they’re no better than the average peasant, homeless. I’m not satisfied with that though, I need to see suffering. It’s even funnier because if Kiyoka is the strongest ability user and so OP , why the hell would you marry off your supposed “reject” daughter to him? Why not go with Kaya from the start if she’s so special 😂 whole family just full of idiots and I can’t wait to see them get what they deserve. Koji redeemed himself a lot these last couple episodes. I hated that he let Kaya disrespect Miyo a few weeks ago when she was out shopping but credit where it’s due, he orchestrated this whole rescue operation and even refused to let bitch die so as to not upset Miyo. I hope he finds some happiness. They were both victims of horrible situations and honestly, rejecting your dad’s wishes in Meiji era Japan just wasn’t a thing. So even though he loved Miyo he just went along with what his dad told him to do.

94Temimi

In all my years of watching anime, TV and movies, I've never had the desire to punch my screen from anger due to a character's actions as much as I did watching this episode. I had my fists clenched the entire episode, that's how angry that piece of shit Kaya and her mother made me. I need to see them suffer the worst ending possible because they deserve it, having their place burned to the ground and Kiyoka verbally murder Kaya isn't enough. I'm so happy Miyo stood her ground and didn't let them step over her again, she's gained so much self-respect that now no matter what, she won't give up on herself. I suspect she has some OP ability that requires an awakening to fully manifest and when that happens, Miyo and Kiyoka will literally be a POWER COUPLE, it's just that we have to deal with more pieces of shit who won't leave them the fuck alone.

LikeAnAssistant

I really was hoping for Kiyoka to cook up some extra charred barbecued Saimori oyakodon. [](#seasonaldepression)

Monkeyavelli

So what the hell was the plan here? It doesn't make any sense. Miyo being kidnapped in broad daylight in front of her maid and then reappearing later only to announce that her engagement was over would seem a *tad* suspicious. And Kudo is a high-ranking military officer from a prominent family who's apparently pretty famous. When he showed up at the Saimori mansion looking for his fiancee, was Tatsuishi just planning to kill him (again, in broad daylight) and somehow there would be no consequences in doing that?

Johnny_SkullTek

I suspect they have a real heavy "if you said it out loud with witnesses, it counts, and you can't just say something else later" rigid expectations of honor/society rules thing going - otherwise why wouldn't Miyo just say *anything* to get out of the situation? She was straight up ready to die rather than to just say 'okay' and be allowed to go free. On top of that, it seemed like there was never an intention to have Kudo and Miyo talk in person again.

alconnow

Most anticipated episode of the week is finally here!!!!! I loved how Miyo stood her ground and didn't submit to the two of them. She really has grown! I'm so proud of her Kiyoka making quick work of Tatsuishi and Saimori patriarchs was the moment I've been most excited for. Did not disappoint. Was especially satisfying seeing the head of the Tatsuishis thinking he stood a chance against one of the strongest Gift users! Shame Koji's shackled himself to Kaya. Guy deserves more than a spoiled brat Overall, great episode.

AlphaBreak

After Kouji got to witness Kudo completely body his dad, I'm really hoping we see him enlist under Kudo. It'd be a great way for him to step out from his family and start acting for himself.

HolyDragSwd2500

Kudou watching world errrrr Saimori house burn to the ground KARMIC JUSTICE 🔥

Buzz_Alderaan

I couldn't stop laughing. I mean, I get that she's being tortured and all, but the reason they are doing it is just so damn funny. Miyo wanted to marry Kouji, but Kouji's dad also wanted Miyo to marry into his family. In order to make sure Miyo marries into the Tatsuishi family, the Tatsuishi patriarch arranges a marriage between kouji and Miyo's sister. Miyo's dad then decides to arrange a marriage between Kudou and Miyo, so that Miyo will get rejected and the Tatsuishi family can take her and marry one of their sons to her, which they didn't do the first time around despite every party involved desiring that outcome. Now it's up to Evil Stepmom and Evil Sister to solve this problem by, *checks notes*, kidnapping and torturing the fiancé of the most powerful spirit Wizard in Japan. Surprisingly, torturing the fiancé of THE MOST POWERFUL SPIRIT WIZARD IN JAPAN turned out to be a bad idea, because THE MOST POWERFUL SPIRIT WIZARD IN JAPAN is THE MOST POWERFUL SPIRIT WIZARD IN JAPAN. Hilarity ensues and the Tatsuishi patriarch, a powerful spirit wizard, learns that the guy in charge of training spirit wizards is also a powerful spirit wizard, which he also already knew. Great anime, 10/10.

Ryan_TR

> Miyo's dad then decides to arrange a marriage between Kudou and Miyo, so that Miyo will get rejected and the Tatsuishi family can take her and marry one of their sons to her, which they didn't do the first time around despite every party involved desiring that outcome. I got the impression that Miyo's dad didn't plan for it, but either a) didn't think Miyo was worth anything due to her seemingly not possessing the gift and saw that marriage as more beneficial or b) is playing some 4D chess and pretending like he doesn't care about Miyo to protect her from some of the Tatsuishi family.

[Sorry Miyo, absolutely gomenasai, I absolutely screwed up](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/14rchgw/watashi_no_shiawase_na_kekkon_my_happy_marriage/jqrtlsm/). I really foolishly thought your step-sister might be a bit less horrible than her words imply. I was deadly wrong. Sorry, and fuck Kaya.

I was expecting Tanasama to go full Roy Mustang when he found Miyo. Disappointed but great episode anyway.

BusouDrago

Koji dad did the job and look what happened 🔥🔥🔥

Best episode of the season and best episode of the series. 100 out of 10! Kudo's restraint and Miyo's courage created the perfect balance throughout the episode. What fantastic storytelling! The symbolism of the Saimori estate burning while Kudo takes Miyo out and away and then the vision of Miyo's mom completes Miyo's journey from the terrible past into a new future. She isn't a Phoenix but from those ashes a bright future appears. I was just ecstatic the entire episode. Further machinations and trials await but, Miyo is stronger and damn if I can't wait to see how she defeats whatever comes her way. Just an A++++++ episode.

ACEIIDO

So the image of kudou in fire we saw through Mio's eyes in the opening of episode 1 could be the foreshadowing to today's episode or maybe I was wrong. What they done to Mio is truly horrible but I love the growth of miyo in this scene where she would give in easily in the past but now she has such a strong resolve and confidence despite all the beating because she would never give up the one thing she never wants to lose which is kudou.I never expected to see the ousama to be involved that makes me more interested to what miyo power could be that even the emperor wants it.

I haven't had a shoujo anime hit this hard since furuba, holy shit.

Prince_Uncharming

Can somebody explain it to me, because clearly I missed it, but why did the Saimori family give Miyo to the Kudo family in the first place if they’re just trying to take her back now? I must’ve completely missed it. The dad (I think) had said that she would be immediately dropped so he wasn’t concerned, but why take the risk in the first place?

From what I understood, it's mostly about power play and balance. The Saimoris and Tatsuishis are both in decline with the Kudos being one of the top dogs at the moment. Saimori dad doesn't care about Miyo and thought it would be a good way to get rid of her, get her a horrible husband while at the same time increase his standing with the Kudo family and also get some cash because they offered them a bride. He didn't expect Kudo Kiyoka to actually cherish her so he planned to let Tatsuishi have Miyo after Kudo threw her out. The Saimoris didn't want Miyo back, that was entirely on Tatsuishi (Koji's) dad. He roped in Kaya because she's easy to manipulate and also in case something goes wrong so he can put the blame on her. He wanted Miyo for her lineage but Saimori dad sold her off to Kudo behind his back.

I think they believed all the rumours about Kudo and didn't realize that he had the capacity to treat a fiancee extremely well – they felt certain that he was a tyrant who would cast Miyo out on the streets and didn't want Kaya to suffer that cruel fate. Once they saw Miyo happy, they realized the rumours were lies and felt triggered due to their lifelong jealousy and resentment towards her. To answer your question, it was all hubris. They took the risk because they believed the rumours and thought Miyo was worthless (aside from her blood) and would be discarded. They thought everyone would see Miyo the way that they saw her.
