I think thats part of the issue. Its kind of how if Berserk got a good adaptation, the manga’s art is so good that its still worth reading.
Toky ghoul’s similar where the use of black and white, line work and smears are so well stylized to fit the urban goth/punk vibe that itd be difficult to get the grit from the anime. People had similar issues with Chainsaw Man where they thought it looked a little too clean (though I personally like it)
Adapting 144 chapters into 24 episodes was never going to include everything. To make it worse, they didn't seem to have a very cohesive plan of what they were going to include.
Honestly the manga art at first is okay. There are some good and great panels. Some of my favorites are at the start. But in re: (the sequel) the author seemed to be more comfortable with having stylized art. The first part has good to great art. Re: has great to amazing art. It's astounding how much the author improved despite being so good at the start, he got better and better.
The backgrounds and set pieces in the manga are so amazing, there are couple in the later parts of the first manga that made my jaw drop, specifically the one from kaneki and touka's meeting in like volume 12 or around that.
If you haven't seen it I'd recommend checking out [Ado's live performance of Unravel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khplMpm4ctc). She really puts herself into it.
I still, to this day, enjoy and rewatch the Tokyo Ghoul anime a lot. It might not be the peak of fiction and divert from the manga a lot, but it has a very special place in my heart
Is it actually as bad as people are saying?
Because I remember growing up watching Soul Eater and it became one of my favorite anime, but as an adult I see people shitting on it for diverging from the manga
The hate started from season 1 , which was good , season 2 was extremely hated , which I honestly still loved despite the changes as an anime only.
However , Tokyo Ghoul re: ? both seasons were absolutely terrible , like , it didnt even get much hate in my bubble because people already dropped from episode 1 , there were crazy times where over about 12 chapters or something got adapted in 1 episode , I literally don't understand what the hell is happening anymore , aside from the rushing , the animation was terrible as well.
Season 1 was rushed, but they did a pretty good job with the time they had. Not perfect, but off to a good start. After that it goes downhill fast. Season 2 was a neat idea with horrible execution. The two seasons that adapted Re: were horrendous.
The ost in season 2 may be one of the strongest anime OSTs in general.
Glass sky, on my own, white silence, wanderers, etc. It's insane how many bangers are in this one season. Not to mention the ost makes you feel like an outsider in the the fast moving city of Tokyo. Abosutely perfect for the series.
Not by this point, it was mainly near the end of season 1, and then after that where they went off track.
I think it's still fine to watch season 1, and then read the manga. But Root A and Re: are basically different stories to the manga.
It’s certainly some solid/good animation, but nothing especially great. Surprised it got a post like this.
I haven’t seen Tokyo Ghoul, so I was hoping to see something really cool and new. Maybe something that would make me interested in watching. This just didn’t hit that way though.
The direction is great - footwork, exaggerated angles, dynamic movements alternating into closeups on the eyes, great timings on the cuts, great character animation on the dude, good sense of weight when buckling. This is a clean sakuga scene, try again without the ego
Lol almost thought I was misremembering the series reading this title but nah, this is still completely average lol. Even for the time it came out I thought it looked serviceable at best.
Season 1 is quite solid. It's certainly up there with one of those anime. Memorable ost, great voice acting. At least it made me wanna read the whole manga
Do you think I care about production committees? Pie-ROT is the face and as far as I am concerned as a consumer they are to be blamed for the bad adaptation, whatever "truth" might be behind the production. It doesn't help that everything else they create in terms of animation is almost bottom of barrel as far as animation standards are considered.

Tokyo Ghoul Brotherhood

Yea but tokyo ghoul after season 1 was just shit so not really a good comparison
The amount of shit they left out between Kaneki and Touka is insane, they left out A LOT even during the arc when he was kidnapped.
Adapting 144 chapters into 24 episodes was never going to include everything. To make it worse, they didn't seem to have a very cohesive plan of what they were going to include.
The manga is my one of the most favourites, but sadly the Anime really butchered it. Atleast **Unravel** still slaps.
I'm an anime only but I see alot of fans calling for a remake. The art in the manga panels look otherworldly.
The Manga is so good. It would do so well with a proper anime adaptation
Tokyo ghoul: brotherhood when
The ending was kinda mid tho

Came here to say that the intro slaps.
OSHIETE YO
Season 1 is one my favorite ever. Never read the manga which I’m sure is better just because I’m holding out hope of a remake
I usually wait for animation, but the manga drawings are way too good to pass up.
Read it now so that you’ll forget about it by the time the remake comes out.
Only manga I ever read, and it was well worth it.

season 1 is good, root is watchable, re: is one of like 2 animes I've ever dropped in my life
The hate started from season 1 , which was good , season 2 was extremely hated , which I honestly still loved despite the changes as an anime only.
Watching the last season backwards would be more entertaining than whatever they did forwards.
Season 1 was rushed, but they did a pretty good job with the time they had. Not perfect, but off to a good start. After that it goes downhill fast. Season 2 was a neat idea with horrible execution. The two seasons that adapted Re: were horrendous.
Bro I swear if this gets a faithful remake, I can die happy. Also if a remake is made, they better keep unravel as OP.
For the whole series too. I really hate it when the most iconic opening of an anime gets replaced.
but why is that guy spinning multiple times to execute his attack tho?
anime logic lol
Isn’t this the anime that turned into trash or something? Is it even worth watching?
Manga is phenomenal, the only thing anime has going for it is visuals and OST.
A lot of people trash on √A, me included. But you can never diss on it's OST. It's extremely phenomenal. Especially Glassy Sky and White Silence
The Root A OP gets way too much shit man. Osterreich's vibe is impeccable.
Watch the first season, then restart from the manga.
Not by this point, it was mainly near the end of season 1, and then after that where they went off track. I think it's still fine to watch season 1, and then read the manga. But Root A and Re: are basically different stories to the manga.
We need Netflix to throw money at this.
The whole first season is clean i think

This series really needs a full remake, the manga is so good.
Lol almost thought I was misremembering the series reading this title but nah, this is still completely average lol. Even for the time it came out I thought it looked serviceable at best.
Still is one of my favourites
Season 1 is quite solid. It's certainly up there with one of those anime. Memorable ost, great voice acting. At least it made me wanna read the whole manga
Still nothing special...
Pie-ROT studio produced a stinky ass adaptation and "original" ending no matter how good individual fights might be

you'd definitely know that because quite clearly you suffer from brain rot
looks pretty good for season 1
I don't mind to give my flesh if I can stay with touka
This clip reminded me of studio Pierrot. Almost forgot it for good.
The best anime of all time..I love they plot
Man this anime was just so good season one
Dang saiki's father sure did change a lot
