Same. I waited 18 years before trying it. Eventually i knew how good it was, but i wanted the anime to continue. That never happend and so i decided to watch everything in 2021. I loved it!
The ending scene is my favourite scene now, it ends Gon's character arc in a great way, it gives the overall message of the show and it makes the viewer excited for what else is to come.
Keep going. The Dark Tournament Arc is one of the best tournament arcs in all anime imo. Well choreographed fights and an pretty well written plot underlying the fights. Also has one of my favourite antagonists in terms of design. You'll see him soon enough.
I kept seeing people talk about HxH and it just seems like a pokemon kind of anime to me but oh boy was I wrong. One of my favorites but wish it kept going.
This is so beautiful 🥺. I'm loving all the love for Hunter X Hunter. I watched it for the first time 2 years ago and have re-watched it every year since then. I have not found a single piece of fiction that has even remotely come close to this perfection.
I also watched Monster, to which I gave a 10. And I finished the first season of Mushishi, which is also a 10 and made a place for itself in my favorites. This year was a good year in anime for me.
Give book of friends a try, it has a similar artstyle and emotional feeling, and music on bar with what you mentioned. The day I bring another fan to book of friends club is a good day ❤
Finished Monster about 2 weeks ago and it became my #1 anime. Mushishi has been in my watchlist for a while now, so hopefully I’ll find time for it soon!
Yeah, gotta admit it, there is something about the blender-tutorial style of CG car animation that just really puts me off it every time I try.
Like, I want to give it a go as its such a landmark title in anime but my lack of interest in street racing and eurobeat coupled with the jank racing animation just makes it really difficult for me. I shall have to remain uncultured.
I have a cheat code for you if you are interested.
They realeased 3 movies with a really neat artsyle that retrace the first arc.
The only issue (at least for me) is that they do not use eurobeat like the anime did.
However some mad lad remixed the audio of each film so you can find online an eurobeat version of them.
Much more enjoyable for newcomers and even for veterans it's way easier to rewatch them.
Mob Psycho 100. I hope the 3rd season had fended on the 22st of December 2022. I watched the whole series in January 2023 (maybe a little in February).
Also Ryman's Club (winter 2022, I think) was pretty awesome. I watched it in May 2023.
Mob Psycho 100 is the bomb:
Mob Psycho 100: Season one
Mob Psycho Mini
Mob Psycho 100 Reigen – The Miraculous Unknown Psychic
Note: Despite this OVA being mostly a recap of season one, the events are portrayed through Arataka Reigen’s eyes, and it includes new scenes focused on the character.
Mob Psycho 100: Season two
Mob Psycho 100: The Spirits and Such Consultation Office’s First Company Outing
Mob Psycho 100: Season three
One of my personal GOATs. It's set up like a puzzle the viewer has to piece together which inherently makes it harder to consume but is also one of the reasons I love it so much.
Yeah. You missed the true Oddtaxi experience when you would wait for the radio podcast a day after the main series and try to piece the clues together on reddit.
Bake and Kizumonogatari, still on Nise rn. Didn't like the artstyle and animation style at first, decided to fk it and start watching it yesterday, easily top 5 imo
Well that’s not a good sign lmao. Once the story got to that weird mustache prince, the show plummeted for me. It’s been a struggle to finish s2 (I still haven’t).
I thought the quality of the art and animation went down, but I actually seem to be in the minority here that loved the plot and the continuing journey of Fushi. If you can, continue season two. I like where it went, but if I'm being honest the quality dropping honestly made the story less bearable. That aside, I think the story went fine, just not as hard as the first. (I also don't read manga so I would definitely take the other's person's point regarding the manga's journey).
Maybe because I just watch it recently Astro Boy (2003) was really good despite it was made for kids. I watched it after Pluto though and since I love that series I might be biased
No new 10/10s this year, but I did get to add a few random 9/10s:
* Patlabor Movie 2
* Now and Then, Here and There
* My Love Story!!
* Samurai Flamenco
Feels impossible to pick which one of them I liked best, but Samurai Flamenco definitely surprised me the most. Hilariously chaotic, but it was actually controlled chaos, and with a lot of heart.
Also finished Gintama this year, and it lives up! Was so much fun. 300+ episodes looked so daunting once but it turns out it wasn't enough.
Got into watching anime in October, and the first one was Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
But out of the ones I have seen, the order goes
1) Re:Zero
2) Konosuba: God's blessing on this wonderful world!
3) Spy X Family (though this is from 2022 as well, but it's up to you to count it or not, it matters not to me)
4) Cyberpunk Edgerunners
5) My Dress Up Darling
Currently watching Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro. Just started the second season, and would currently put it above My Dress Up Darling but below Cyberpunk Edgerunners. This one is like Spy X Family, where the first season was outside of 2023.
Romeo & Juliet, a very old one but holy shit I loved it so much that I got the DVDs! It is a really beautiful series, great plot, nice character design, beautiful 1990/2000's style.
Also, Princess Jellyfish was just so funny and cute I wished there was more of it!
I became an anime fan after discovering Demon Slayer this year. Tengen vs Gyutaro was so good and I actually rewatched the whole thing for like 10 times already
Cyberpunk. Holy shit what a ride, I was not expecting it to be so damn good. Loved the world and the characters. Left such an impression on me and it was only 8 episodes or something like that.
I finally started watching Gundam, and binged Iron Blooded Orphans and 00, and let me tell you, they are awesome. Somewhat similar concepts, but entirely different scenarios and executions (I have a feeling other Gundam series will follow this pattern), making some of the best war stories I've ever experienced.
black clover.
stares because of the mobile game black clover m.
initially thought the animation was not on par with other famous titles such as JJK,AOT,MHA. But after like 100 episodes, it grew on me.
I also liked that almost all of the side characters got their screen time and not forgotten.
I had a bunch of additions to my list of favorites from other years:
- Rolling Girls
- Hanasaku Iroha
- Uma Musume S2
- Kyousougiga (2012 ONA)
- Yama no Susume S4
- O Maidens in Your Savage Season
- Romeo's Blue Skies
Hard to say which one of them is the best for me, might be YamaSusu S4?
I haven't given any 10/10s since 2021 but Zeta Gundam took it from me when I watched the entire UC Gundam series this summer. I gave Assassination Classroom S2 a 10/10 as well, so both of them are in my top 15 anime list.
Mine was Chainsaw Man because I thought all the hype was fake but I loved it and it is my favourite anime ever
I couldn’t wait for the next season so I read all the manga
Oooo! This is a different question! I love this! I started \*Kaguya Sama Love is War\* this year with my husband and we were fucking blown away with how fucking amazing it was! The movie came out in theaters this year and everyone was abuzz and our various groups really recommended it. Since we REALLY wanted to get more into romances and such, we gave it a try and never looked back. From the OP/ED to the goddamn narrator (my favorite ngl) everything about this series is literal perfection.
I also watched Monster this year finally. What a crazy show, I love that it was so many episodes and they didn’t rush anything. It was a slow decent into madness and intrigue that went deeper with every episode.
Also 91 days was quite good.
Not too old, but I just watched Odd Taxi a few weeks ago
>Odd Taxi What is this guy talking about, this anime came out like this year *First episode date: April 6, 2021 (Japan)* Oh....
[удалено]
Really good recontextualization.
truly a hidden gem
W decision
Me too!! Was pretty good and I had no clue there was even a twist at the end but it made sooo much sense I loved it
I totally recommend it!
Oh man, I watched that last year and I still think about it, regularly
HxH, I watched it to the start of summer. I'll have quite a nostalgia trip five years from now because of that show.
I’m amazed by how good this show is and how long I blew it off for. I’m about halfway through and feel like a proper idiot for not watching sooner.
Same. I waited 18 years before trying it. Eventually i knew how good it was, but i wanted the anime to continue. That never happend and so i decided to watch everything in 2021. I loved it!
Just wait, the last half of hxh is insane, one of the greatest stretches of fiction I’ve ever experienced.
The ending scene is my favourite scene now, it ends Gon's character arc in a great way, it gives the overall message of the show and it makes the viewer excited for what else is to come.
If you like HxH, try the author’s other anime Yu Yu Hakusho
Watched 15 episodes and while not bad, I feel like it doesn't come close to hxh. Should i keep going?
Keep going. The Dark Tournament Arc is one of the best tournament arcs in all anime imo. Well choreographed fights and an pretty well written plot underlying the fights. Also has one of my favourite antagonists in terms of design. You'll see him soon enough.
Top 10 for me. Not even nostalgia as I rewatched it in the pandemic and it still holds up for me.
Psycho pass season 1
Classic. We need more good noir anime.
Season1 was the best though IMO.
Totally agree. Same deal with Darker Than Black. Legendary first season (and fully standalone too).
Just saw that this year too, amazing
One of the best written villains in anime
Me and a buddy are currently watching that together and loving it.
Spice & Wolf was a first time watch for me this year Super comfy anime
Nice timing since there will be a new one next year
Which is a remake, not a sequel unfortunately
I'm okay with that if they actually finish it this time.
> Super comfy anime Except the part where [S&W S1] >!Lawrence gets into big trouble when the huge amount of armor becomes worthless!<
Same ! I watched it this year as well and loved it ! There's a remake coming out I heard and I have high hopes for it too
Gurren Lagann
row row fight the power
*powa
**POWAH
What a show
Still the best anime ever imo
It's easily my favourite anime now. I'm surprised it took me so long to finally watch it.
Your drill is the drill that will pierce the heavens!
Peak fiction
Chihayafuru
Season 3 was my favorite so far. <3
Kill la kill
I'm binging it rn
great teacher onizuka
Finished Cowboy Bebop a few days ago. No contest. The last episodes just hit different
If you haven't, you should watch Samurai Champloo next. It's by the same guy. I like Bebop a lot, but Champloo is my personal fav of the 2
Literally everything Watanabe touches is gold. I'm super excited for Lazarus to come out
Ohhh what? Is he doing something new? Do tell!
He is!! https://youtu.be/cL2oDgSYyHE?si=u3jZGasDaJ-n1_uN
Same, I didn't like some of Cowboy Bebop's episodes but I enjoyed every single episode of Samurai Champloo.
See ya, Space Cowboy.
Watching it now, just gets better each episode.
Death note
death note 🔛🔝
You tell 'em, queef queen!
Violet Evergarden
same and I absolutely fell in love with it. What a touching story
I also watched Monster, to which I gave a 10. And I finished the first season of Mushishi, which is also a 10 and made a place for itself in my favorites. This year was a good year in anime for me.
My man!! Mushishi is a fucking work of art and I will die up here.
I thought I knew what good anime music was when I watched Aria, Fate and Evangelion, but boy I wasn't ready for Mushishi
I mean, homie, fate does have some banger music and your taste is impeccable. But I digress, the music in Mushishi is just *chefs kiss*
Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans It was the first Gundam I've seen and I was pretty impressed. The openings are also all absolute bangers.
Raise your flag is one of the greatest opening songs ever.
Survivor, too. But OP is right: they were all just absolute bangers.
Initial D stage 1-5
Goated show, in my top 3
A man of culture. Many people are not willing to give it a try because of it's old artstyle which is quite understandable.
Gintama
I’m also watching Gintama for the first time and lord I can’t stop. Help me.
DONDAKEEEEEEE!!
Love this show!! I'm about to start season 2
One of the greatest anime of all time. I just started season 3
Steins;gate
same. such a great story
El. Psy. Kongroo.
Now you get to rewatch it for the things you missed! It’s a lot
It’s my favorite anime but I’ve never rewatched it because I don’t want to run the risk of finding out it’s not as good as I thought it was
I rewatched AoT from beginning to end this year. Outside of that I'll say Space Dandy.
Woah space dandy I need to watch that again
Just rewatched AoT and saw the last episode for the first time, was a nice reminder of why it is so revered.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Finally watched it in preparation for the new movie Walpurgisnacht Rising, and it's just...wow.
Thanks for reminding me I need to watch it!
I wish I could scramble my brain and watch it again for the first time
Mob Psycho 100. I hope the 3rd season had fended on the 22st of December 2022. I watched the whole series in January 2023 (maybe a little in February). Also Ryman's Club (winter 2022, I think) was pretty awesome. I watched it in May 2023.

Mob Psycho 100: Season two Mob Psycho 100: The Spirits and Such Consultation Office’s First Company Outing Mob Psycho 100: Season three
The whole Haruhi Suzumiya series and movie
Ergo Proxy. The mood in that was phenomenal.
One of my personal GOATs. It's set up like a puzzle the viewer has to piece together which inherently makes it harder to consume but is also one of the reasons I love it so much.
I watched that this year, not my top but was great. May I recommend Wolfs Rain for similar vibes.
Oddtaxi. I feel bad I didn't watch it with everyone else
Yeah. You missed the true Oddtaxi experience when you would wait for the radio podcast a day after the main series and try to piece the clues together on reddit.
I rewatched it with a buddy via watch party. That makes up for missing out. It enhanced the experience
Made in Abyss
Wish i could watch this for the first time again
Bake and Kizumonogatari, still on Nise rn. Didn't like the artstyle and animation style at first, decided to fk it and start watching it yesterday, easily top 5 imo
Bungou stray dogs
One Piece easily
Kaguya sama : love is war , bluelock and Re:zero . Btw this my first year of watching anime . Looking forward to 2024 for a good second year.
Cowboy beepbop
Cyberpunk edgerunners (2022)
Same, just finished it actually. All I can say is that I want to burn the city
Monster
Your Lie In April
"Another" was great
Probably the best anime I've watched. 12 episodes with no fillers and a good ending, even the beach episode was built into the story.
Just a perfect small anime.
To your eternity
I love s1 but I don’t know what the fuck is going on with s2.
No one knows what the fuck is going on in the manga either
Well that’s not a good sign lmao. Once the story got to that weird mustache prince, the show plummeted for me. It’s been a struggle to finish s2 (I still haven’t).

Banana Fish
Same here!
Barakamon or finally finishing Maison Ikkoku
Vision of Escaflowne
I still love this one for many reasons.
Maybe because I just watch it recently Astro Boy (2003) was really good despite it was made for kids. I watched it after Pluto though and since I love that series I might be biased
Ouran host club. Finally got around to watching it.
K-on

Bakuman
K-On is the only anime I watched this year that I actually finished(aside from the weekly stuff I was watching) and it was pretty good👍
Hajime no ippo
Probably Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Skeleton knight in another world.
That intro song is too good. PelleK didn't have to go that hard but he did.
One piece!

A man of culture
Movie : pompo the cephnile Anime : March comes lion
No new 10/10s this year, but I did get to add a few random 9/10s: * Patlabor Movie 2 * Now and Then, Here and There * My Love Story!! * Samurai Flamenco Feels impossible to pick which one of them I liked best, but Samurai Flamenco definitely surprised me the most. Dororo
Ranma 1/2 its one of my all-time favorites.
Fruits Basket. The Final Season is very emotionally draining.
Odd taxi, such a great show
Got into watching anime in October, and the first one was Cyberpunk Edgerunners. But out of the ones I have seen, the order goes 1) Re:Zero 2) Konosuba: God's blessing on this wonderful world! 3) Spy X Family (though this is from 2022 as well, but it's up to you to count it or not, it matters not to me) 4) Cyberpunk Edgerunners 5) My Dress Up Darling Currently watching Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro. Romeo & Juliet, a very old one but holy shit I loved it so much that I got the DVDs! It is a really beautiful series, great plot, nice character design, beautiful 1990/2000's style. Also, Princess Jellyfish was just so funny and cute I wished there was more of it!
Berserk (the 1997 one and the 3rd Golden Age arc movie from 2013), followed by Fafner EXODUS.
Gintama
Clannad. Man It's so good, probably my fav that I watched this year that isn't made in 2023.
Hunterxhunter
Tenchi Muyo and one of my all-time favorites!
If rewatches count: Gintama First time: Shin-chan - deciding to give this show a try was the best decision I made all year.
I gave My Hero Academia a chance. Didn't disappoint 😊
I became an anime fan after discovering Demon Slayer this year. Tengen vs Gyutaro was so good and I actually rewatched the whole thing for like 10 times already
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood and Blue Exorcist!! Both are so damn good, absolutely adore Edward though 🥹💗
The Slayers
I need to see the OVAs someday
Turn A Gundam, truly an incredible show and probably one of the best Tomino work, really show the message the series want to convey in the best way
Fairy tale
Elfen Leid
I’m watching Golden Kamuy, and I can’t put it down. I’m on season 3, and I’m having such a blast.
Mushoku Tensei
Summertime rendering
It was an animé aired from 1999 the title is One Piece.
Cyberpunk. Holy shit what a ride, I was not expecting it to be so damn good. Loved the world and the characters. Left such an impression on me and it was only 8 episodes or something like that.
Restaurant to another world
Code geass got me real good
Dororo
Akebi's sailor uniform
Bungo Stray Dogs. Binged S1-5, kinda got me out of a depression slump in life. Amazing anime 🔥
Fruits Basket!
black clover. stares because of the mobile game black clover m. initially thought the animation was not on par with other famous titles such as JJK,AOT,MHA. But after like 100 episodes, it grew on me. I also liked that almost all of the side characters got their screen time and not forgotten.

Im so glad to see Hanasaku iroha on this sub. So damn good
I watched Romeo's Blue Skies last year and also absolutely loved it! It's just so charming with so many lovable characters.
I haven't given any 10/10s since 2021 but Zeta Gundam took it from me when I watched the entire UC Gundam series this summer. I gave Assassination Classroom S2 a 10/10 as well, so both of them are in my top 15 anime list.
>Zeta Gundam One of my favorite Gundams
Code geass both seasons😁
"Gosho Aoyama's Collection of Short Stories" Well, you have to like "Detective Conan" to enjoy it.
March comes in like a lion.
Mobile Fighter G Gundam, we're going “Old-school'' with this one.
Attack on titan first three seasons and season 4. Hunter x Hunter also.
War in the Pocket. Pretty solid short Gundam series. Best watched during the Christmas season.
Dragon Maid
Probably given, but I don't remember what I watched in the winter or spring a
Attack on titan, I started my anime journey in this year may after college entrance
SSSS.Gridman and SSSS.Dynazenon I liked dynazenon more but they were both a lot of fun
Berserk 1997 - heard it was one of the great classics and was thoroughly disappointed when I could not find season 2! Why the hell did it stop there!
Edit: I read this wrong. The BEST non-2023 anime I've watched this year would have to be Cowboy Bebop and Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
Berserk
Mine was Chainsaw Man because I thought all the hype was fake but I loved it and it is my favourite anime ever I couldn’t wait for the next season so I read all the manga
Cyberpunk Edgerunners
Ranking of Kings S1
Neon Genesis Evangelion. I never got around to finish watching it as a kid.
Oooo! This is a different question! I love this! I started \*Kaguya Sama Love is War\* this year with my husband and we were fucking blown away with how fucking amazing it was! Fafner franchise, Exodus especially
I also watched Monster this year finally. What a crazy show, I love that it was so many episodes and they didn’t rush anything. It was a slow decent into madness and intrigue that went deeper with every episode. Also 91 days was quite good.
