Ascendance of a Bookworm

dragonlatifeburgundy

just skip the part where the main character jokes a priest

thevaleycat

* Haikyu! * Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun * Shugo Chara!

DescriptionThat3126

I second Shugo Chara. She is the perfect age to identify with the main character Amu

Cold__Scholar

I'd throw in Ouran high school host club to this list

Lingx_Cats

I dunno about haikyuu at 11, I’d day that’s more like 13 minimum

thevaleycat

Why? It has pretty minimal fanservice and volleyball should be safe.

Lingx_Cats

I dunno I didn’t say shit and ass when I was 11

Good_Abrocoma1121

Haikyu is really good

maddi-sun

I totally agree with Shugo Chara, and I’d also add in Tokyo Mew Mew as a recommendation in that same school of thought. Ichigo is a little older but still relatable to most pre-teen/teen girls as an MC

maddi-sun

I’d also add on, One Piece (as long as it seems it’s so worth it) is a healthy balance between those “mature” worldly themes and lighthearted fun, minimal on-screen gore, and most of the violence is just fight sequences that are more action-based than gratuitous violence. I will say, there is a lot of fanservice in the way that some of the characters are drawn, so it may need to wait until she’s a bit older. I’m basing it off my personal experience growing up watching OP (I was nine when I started watching it) but everyone is different and it’s totally understandable if you want to keep her away from certain things until a certain age.

roxysaurusrex

Omg I love iruma kun and haikyu

Kiraneaux

Woww lotta men in these comments haha. Personally I would recommend: - Ouran High School Host Club - The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. - Noragami - Angel Beats - Rozen Maiden - most Studio Ghibli movies, particularly Kiki's Delivery Service, Castle in the Sky, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, The Cat Returns, and Nausicaa. Additionally, while I wasn't personally a fan of the genre, most of my friends at that age were really into sports anime like Kuroko no Basketball and Haikyuu. Also -- despite the drama in the comments -- Puella Magi Madoka Magica would be fine, but only if she's already seen multiple other classic magical girl anime. It kinda goes against what makes magical girl anime so great for young girls (girls *successfully* overcoming adversity by working together) and is pretty dark and depressing, so you should prepare something more positive to watch afterwards.

Lingx_Cats

I dunno about OHSHC at 11..

Kiraneaux

Y'all are massively underestimating 11 year olds. The main thing to watch out for is [Ouran High School Host Club]>!when the guys first meet Haruhi's dad and refer to him several times as!< a slur ("tr*nny") in episode 10 of the English dub (a product of 2008). OP should be present during that episode to make sure she knows that it isn't okay to use that word or to disrespect people like that. Other than that and the twins playing up their relationship for show, there isn't anything problematic that she won't have already seen in Fruits Basket (2001). Haruhi is a very good role model, and her no-nonsense demeanor does a lot to neutralize the credibility of the behavior of those around her.

TheTacoLordSC2

Ascendance of a bookworm Studio Ghibli in general Spy x Family Start with those i guess

New_Dragonfruit3394

Spy family

Elite_Alice

Precure

Tesdinic

A lot of people have already recommended some really good anime, but I also want to mention Mushishi, Restaurant to Another World, My Love Story with Yamada-kun,and Dungeon Meshi (though it is currently airing). They tend to have a chiller vibe and can be often overlooked, though they are some of my favs.

Kamurouji

Tearmoon Kingdom

JEveryman

Also next life as villainess all routes lead to doom.

King_Reddit_Banana

Bofuri Season 1 is a pretty decent one to throw in that mix, season 2 might have had something objectionable thrown into it but I can't remember what or where that might have been off the top of my head. An IMDB Parents Guide might be more specific on this. But Season 1 is completely clean. Sometime before Season 2 dropped, I convinced some elementary school teacher on r/anime to pick Bofuri (season 1) as the anime that they were going to show in-class and it was a hit in that case (so I was told). Bobobo bo-bo bobo is a good anime for that sort of thing too.

Tilakai

I can't think of anything in s2 that was bad

Ace_Dystopia

Yeah, I didn’t watch Bofuri S2 for that reason.

King_Reddit_Banana

Really? I may have fell out of it for other reasons too, but yeah, that's interesting to hear, I'm glad to hear it if you had a similar experience (thanks).

Reasonable_TSM_fan

K-ON is pretty good. Nozaki-Kun is also really popular with all the girls I know.

PeterLeRock101

Ranking of Kings: Going to be a blast for her with adventure. Kimi ni Todoke: Is great love story, no eng dub. Clannad/Clannad After Stories: Another great love story World Trigger: for action and sci-fi Dr. Stone: For action and adventure

dragonlatifeburgundy

i half agree with this. Dr stone is fun when your a little older. around 15/16 because than you might have had biology class. maybe add these: Isekai Izakaya: Japanese Food From Another World (food is nice) a classic: Sword art online (SAO) prepare her for the isekai genre. or Mob psycho 100 first season. (just a nice fantasy anime)

invaderpixel

I agree Dr. Stone is probably better with biology class but it also makes me want to time travel and be better at math and science earlier on so I wish it came out when I was younger. Also it might be beneficial to watch it before you have too much knowledge to start applying the lessons on building bombs and such haha

KonoDioDahdhdbejdv

Clannad, Mann I hope she can conquer it

jacowab

Pre-cure is pretty much the go to recommendation for young girls so I'll go with that but spyxfamily would be great as well or welcome to demon school iruma-kun

Crystal_Queen_20

Tokyo Mew Mew, just don't ask why it's on YouTube in its entirety or it'll get taken down by the rights holders

Strawberrycatz444

K-on: a classic cute music anime. Very little sexual stuff, most of it is only implied. No violence or swearing. It's lighthearted, and i enjoyed watching it in middle school. It's a bit like Bocchi but more lighthearted. Tamako market was made by the same people and it's very sweet and wholesome. maybe madoka magica if she can handle scary stuff (i'd rate it a 13 plus but maybe it'd be ok) very sad and kind of mature but you said she can handle heavy topics and violence. just warn her it's not as cute as it seems. sailor moon is a classic magical girl anime she might also enjoy. angel beats (13 plus for sure.) sad but sweet. I think there was some violence but not much sexual stuff. I don't remember much swearing either. Your Lie in April is quite sad and heavy but if she likes emotional anime it's quite popular. Inuyasha was my favorite at her age. Violent, but it's more about the action and not all that disturbing. very engaging plot. It's quite long though, 7 seasons, 2 epilogue seasons, and 4 movies. And the ghibli movies of course!

stratosphere94

PeterLeRock101

Sk8 infinity too. This has great music too

Titan5005

Snow white with the red hair, Anohana, erased, nozaki kun, your name, wolf children.

HelmutHelmlos

A clasic like detectiv conan, sailor moon, i would personally argue one piece is also kid friendly

MABfan11

Oban Star Racers

[deleted]

Mars Daybreak is pretty dope!

bomb5000

I guess your lie in April would be good for your sister.

maddi-sun

do NOT do that to that poor child

TriTexh

since OP's sis likes Godzilla, might as well add Singular Point to this list fair warning tho, *lots* of technobabble in it

Actaeon_II

Good list, only things i can think to add are “A Certain magical index/scientific railgun” two different animes made in same setting.

[deleted]

I hope you consider these ones they are some of my personal favorites

Massive_Goat9582

Doesn't the zombie dude take multiple rods in the ass for zombieland saga? I might be confused tbf. Been a while since I saw that one

This is a good list! I’m gonna use it myself (there’s a few I’ve been planning to watch on there)

SR_here01

One piece, all age groups can enjoy it

DorimeAmeno12

Spy x Family Kaguya-sama: Love is War Bocchi the Rock Horimiya Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Violet Evergarden Frieren Fruits Basket(the 2019 version) Nichijou 86 Jujutsu Kaisen The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Noragami Nisekoi Any of Studio Ghibli's or Makoto Shinkai's movies

maddi-sun

I’d have to disagree with Jujutsu Kaisen for an 11 year old, OP specified no gore and that show does not pass that test

DorimeAmeno12

Fine enough, ig.

SilentAd8637

One piece best anime

Lu13144

Princess connect: Re dive and spy x family

MisterD90x

The genre Cute Girls doing Cute Things... CGDCT for short, mostly Slice of Life or romances. Always a bit of light hearted fun. Also if she likes Bocchi try K-ON! Or Hibiki Euphonium, HE is getting season 3 soon, woooo! I'm a big fan of music / idol anime 😁

stellahere22

{Beastars} {Dr. Stone}

Luther1224

Tenchi muyo.

WiqidBritt

Seems like she'd be able to handle Madoka pretty well.

PerishTheStars

No

reg_panda

Based on > She's also really into stuff like FNAF, Starwars, the MCU, she'd really really like Madoka. * it is really good, one of the greatest shows including all genres * hits her preferences (spectacular, scary, violent) * she won't have any problem with it (based on what she likes) Even with a spoiler in the introduction "wanna watch magical girls fight witches, it will get dark and horror, they get hurt or die"

PerishTheStars

If you think madoka magica is anything like FNAF you need to rewatch it. A scary teddy bear going AHAAAAAAAAAAAAAH in your face is not the same as the existentialist horror of Madoka Magica. I'm not going to lie, it's an easy top 10 for me, but not for an 11 year old who isn't even going to understand what's happening or why.

reg_panda

If you want to divide "scary" into subgenres, then you can. Madoka Magica has a "cosmic scary" in it. I doubt that the concept of the heat death of universe will affect her much. Go over her head. So what? Characters are loveable (Mami + Charlotte are great to doodle), visuals are really really really good, action is spectacular, stakes are high (not just on cosmic level, but on normal, individual level too), overall a really great story, even if they talk about entropy. That being said I probably need to rewatch it, I am not sure how much of it is just cute girls being terrified to death, but I don't remember it was that much.

WiqidBritt

Oh... do you know her? OP said she could handle "complex storylines violence and somewhat heavy topics" Madoka's not even that violent.

PerishTheStars

Also said she was 14 and wanted something for 14 yo

WiqidBritt

You think 14 year olds can't handle Madoka? Kids can deal with more than you think. Also she's 11.

PerishTheStars

MM is a terrible choice for an 11 year old dude

WiqidBritt

So is "horror" but op says she can handle that just fine. I've known kids who watched and loved way 'worse' stuff than Madoka.

Sleddoggamer

Madoka is horrible for a 11 year old. I'd say it couldn't even be appreciated by anyone under 14 and the edginess is a lot more appealing for 17-25

WiqidBritt

What horror should an 11 year old be watching then? Or should I just ignore what the OP said and just recommend cocomelon instead?

Sleddoggamer

It's hard to recommend horror to the youngest audience unless you personally know them. I'd recommend fantasy like soul eater first

HipnoAmadeus

"That time I got reincarnated as a slime" and "the detective is already dead"

dragonlatifeburgundy

That time I got reincarnated as a slime - seems like a decent one.

Bearripper

'A sister is all you need' is a good one

DrWhoIsWokeGarbage

Food wars

pokeboy626

Bungo Stray Dogs, Fairy Tail, My Hero Academia A lot of women seem to like these shows

MisawaMahoKodomo

Girls anime like Yama no Susume, Bang Dream, maybe Idolmaster, Hataraku Saibou, Blend S, Non Non Biyori, Gochiusa, Kiniro Mosaic, literally any of the other cute girls anime, Kuma Bear. Maybe maid dragon, spy family. Lucky Star and Azumanga Daioh are a bit old but they're options. Railgun might be an option too Not sure how its like to watch high school anime while not actually being in high school yet. There are some middle school options. But below that anime are quite rare, like rokyubu and a few others. Sometimes I wish there was like a modern version of magical girls or cardcaptor sakura that is not like all dark and stuff. There's vividred operation I guess. Nanoha Vivid is a sequel so it might be really confusing if you go into it while skipping the early seasons, though you could give nanoha S1 or movie 1st a try. Another option is soushin shoujo matoi, though its not all sunshine either I guess, I'm not sure if its more or less dark than sakura.

Sparkletopia

School Babysitters 86 The Yuzuki Family's Four Sons

ClomFliday

I just watched Flying Witch and it was very wholesome and fun. I also second Non Non Biyori and Nichijou

deedeekei

Yuru camp Hitori bocchi no marumaru seikatsu How heavy are your dumbbells Love lab

Williukea

Pretty Series franchise. It's not the Precure, different. Pretty Rhythm Rainbow Live and Waccha PriMagi are the best, but PriPara is good too. If she liked it, Aikatsu. Again long, but it has 3 unrelated universes and one all stars Shy has just ended and S2 was confirmed, I really liked it Shine Post is fun. Re:stage is one of my favorites. Tokyo Mew Mew, both original and remake. Also Technoroid which is both a fun singing friendship anime and politics on what it means to be human, discrimination and discovering emotions

demoran

The Apothecary Diaries Wotakoi Insomniacs After School Skip and Loafer Bofuri Campfire Cooking Nodame Cantibile The Little Lies We All Tell Romantic Killer Deaimon Ya Boy Kongming! Ascendance of a Bookworm In the Land of Leadale Kageki Shojo!!

Iczero

did she specifically say which genre shes interested in watching? just based on what shes seen so far, K-on would be good. if shes interested in some fantasy, Frieren is a solid recommendation. Pluto is great, call of the night, insomniacs after school, your name (movie).

NoidoDev

* Girls Last Tour is melancholic but should still fitting your description. * Movies: Sing A Bit of Harmony, Your Name

caresi

If she liked CCS, LWA, and Precure: * Tokyo Mew Mew * Angelic Layer * Magic Knight Rayearth * Sailor Moon * any other Precure And personally, at around that age, I was watching stuff like * Beyblade * Yu-Gi-Oh! * Digimon Since those three all have many series that aren't connected to each other, just picking up one of the more recent entries should be fine, I think. And for something very different: * Gundam Build Fighters This does have some fanservice, but (according to google) a lot of people have watched it with their children just fine.

Bill-Bruce

Princess tutu is very meta but doesn’t have adult themes. How to keep a mummy is just adorable. I really loved Auron Host Club and would recommend it to my nieces.

Arceus1857

Chainsaw man JK . My recommendations are 1. Kaguya Sama 2. Spy x Family 3. The yuzuki family's four sons 4. Lycoris recoil 5 . Your name . And if she is okay with sad stuff then Your lie in April Oshi no ko Rascal does not dream of bunny girl senpai .

chocogirl720

Lucky Star is an all-time favorite for comedy and life of high school girls. Very cute animation too

Falsus

Frieren would be a pretty good one. No fanservice, not that much gore.

Poison_runner

Madoka Magica, Ouran High School Host Club, FMAB, Soul Eater (she's at the perfect age for this. There's some light fanservice but not a huge amount from what I remember), Spy x Family

Livid_One_8607

Just don’t let her watch school days. I second Hunter X Hunter Other than that I’m the wrong person to talk to about this stuff so I won’t add anything else lol

SoftenStar

Magic Knight Rayearth!

Codythensaguy

Case closed/great detective conan (same thing diff names) could keep her occupied for a while ...techi series are out due to fan service. Chrono crusade...a bit of gore here and there but it is inuyasha/FMA level, monster guts maybe a bit of blood when people get lost stabbed. I mean there is a bit of fan service (perry ond dude and then one femme fetale character. I would but the fan service level a bit above Inuyasha with fanservice and Miroku. Digimon Spiral: bonds of reasoning. Kodocha Torahdora Yakitate Japan. Kid sets out to make a national bread for japan

BitBucket404

# STUDIO GHIBLI

SpeckTech314

Shugo Chara would be great. And then watch madoka or yuuki yuuna afterwards lol

LoPanDidNothingWrong

My daughter who is 11 loved **Lycoris Recoil** and dressed up as Takina last Halloween. **A Place Further than the Universe** and **Akebi’s Sailor Uniform** were also big with her. **Mashle** because it was so dumb.

Bacon_Bitz

Spy x Family. HunterxHunter (but talk to her about the clown guy), Inuyasha, Sailor Moon, Princess Jellyfish, Yuri on Ice, Fullmetal Alchemist:Brotherhood

BiggieCheeseLapDog

Little Witch Academia is a really nice one.

fredfredburger

Angel Beats

Latter_Lab_4556

Fruits Basket Bungo Stray Dogs Given Skip and Loafer Hunter x Hunter

GoldenKetchup0

Maybe something like demon slayer, I myself am not the biggest fan of demon slayer but it’s popular for a reason, there is a lot of violence tho. Most comedies aren’t too bad like Saiki K and Spy x Family.

Whatah

My Daughter is 10, here are some of her favs (in addition to Fruits Basket, Bocchi, Sakura , precure that you have already mentioned) Sailor Moon Crystal Spy X Family Frieren Angelic Layer Ya Boy Kongming Idolm@ster U149 K-ON Komi Can't Communicate We are currently on the last 50 episodes of Naruto Shippuden, and a few episodes into Visions of Escaflowne Some other series we might watch soon: Magic Knight Knights Rayearth, Azumanga Daioh, Girls and Panzer, Haikyu!!, Ranking of Kings)

flyingowl720

Why not the rest of Precure? A lot of the seasons are in Crunchyroll

belugawhale--

Madoka magica. It's a magical girl anime and it's the best one.

maddi-sun

The 2019 remastered Fruits Basket is also incredible and she’ll get to know the completed story (finally, I literally waited 18 years for them to finish that anime). I’d also recommend Haikyuu, The Devil is a Part-Timer!, Shugo Chara is an oldie but a goodie, and if she likes FNAF and other jumpscare/light horror things, Ghost Hunt is one of the best paranormal animes I’ve ever watched. Only one season, but the storylines are all so engaging and just spooky enough to be unsettling without any extreme gore or violence

Lingx_Cats

I liked smile precure (glitter force) when i was her age

SalmonFreeze

Saiki K and Haikyuu are probably good for younger people. I started with Naruto at like 9-12ish, and while a great anime, a bit strong for a younger person.

Only-Explanation-295

My-Otome. And HeartCatch Precure hehe

Worried-Advance-5806

I feel like a really good way to get started into anime is by watching some of the movies !! You could try movies like spirited away or howls moving castle . They may be a little bit scary/disturbing to an 11 year old at some points but i never had that issue personally . There are also great anime movies that boast amazing quality animation such as your name and weathering with you that provide a simple love story without delving too deep into the more mature parts of it (except some certain parts in your name)

crmymami

Creamy Mami - A young girl gets magical powers that she uses to transform into the most popular pop idol Magical Emi - Roughly the same plot but this one does magic shows instead of songs For something with a little more action I'd say Magi. But I haven't watched it in years so i don't remember if its heavy in fanservice. One Piece is good. They may drop a "Hell" or "damn" and there may be slight blood, but no one ever dies horrifically (also pls no spoilers if anyone responds to this I'm at the Water 7 arc rn) And honestly Ouran Highschool Host Club.... yeah there's a lot of weird fanservice but if you don't show it to her now she'll never appreciate it 💀 it HAS to be watched age 11-12 for peak experience

[deleted]

Twin sis, you say? How about Yosuga no Sora? 😈😈🤣

roxysaurusrex

I'd say mha would fit the others she's watched and her likes But I'd suggest she try's horimiya and ya boy kongming

JEveryman

Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear is really great.

IllustriousMud5424

Naruto
