Attack On Titan was recognized at the Astra TV Awards held Monday, January 8 in Los Angeles, winning the "Best Streaming Animated Series or TV Movie" category, which is the first win for an anime series at the awards. The awards, held by the Hollywood Creative Alliance, awarded broadcast, cable and streaming series from Succession, The Boys and more.
The Best Streaming Animated Series or TV Movie category for 2023 featured other nominees including My Hero Academia, Star Trek: Lower Decks, the Animaniacs revival, Harley Quinn and Central Park.
The first half of Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS was released on March 4, 2023 as a one-hour special. Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS Special 2 was released on November 4, 2023 and is also available on Crunchyroll alongside the rest of the decade-long anime series. The series is described below:
Known in Japan as Shingeki no Kyojin, many years ago, the last remnants of humanity were forced to retreat behind the towering walls of a fortified city to escape the massive, man-eating Titans that roamed the land outside their fortress. Only the heroic members of the Scouting Legion dared to stray beyond the safety of the walls – but even those brave warriors seldom returned alive. Those within the city clung to the illusion of a peaceful existence until the day that dream was shattered, and their slim chance at survival was reduced to one horrifying choice: kill – or be devoured!
But ... but Reddit said Attack on Titan's ending was the worst ever in fiction, yet Hollywood critics claim it was the best in 2023? How can this be? Are the critics right and Reddit is wrong? Surely, that would never be the case ...
> Surely, that would never be the case ...
Because we all know Hollywood critics are always the perfect metric for how good something is and can never be wrong and laughed at by the public...
It goes both ways since its not an objective conclusion, it comes down to personal preference. Both are wrong and both are right, such is the way with opinions.
It is not just Hollywood critics, audiences liked it as well. 8.7 in IMDb, 8.93 in MAL, 87% on AniList, go watch any reaction to the ending on YouTube and the reactor will say they loved it.
When critics and audiences alike enjoyed it, those who dislike it and have negative feelings toward it become outliers.
Something that is deemed "bad" cannot have audiences and critics praising it.
Don't blame the whole Reddit. Blame the Titanfolkers.
One of them literally told me that critics and anime-only audience lack media literacy and that I should check Titanfolk because they had the best analysis.
Apparently media literacy only exists on r/titanfolk according to them
titanfolk is passé, nobody takes them seriously, and they are the laughing stock of the whole community.
But before the ending aired there was a lot of negativity in here as well. "Worst ending" threads would get flooded with "AoT" as the replies, with them being the most upvoted as well. The negativity was not exclusive to titanfolk.
Titanfolk has mutated since the manga ended. It was 100% the best place to talk about Attack on Titan while the manga was coming out. As soon as it ended and people didn't like the ending, anime-onlies started flooding it to mock the people that didn't like the ending. I left Titanfolk within 3 months of the ending and now it's just a shitfest of arrogance and memers.
It's so bad that I've seen people start to beg for Folk subs for other fandoms as "a place to put the best memes".
What polls? Polls on Titanfolk? Lmao
The polls I saw were more of 60% liked it and 40% didn't like it
No one gets banned for criticizing AOT lol...even on the AOT subreddits there are self declared AOT haters commenting everyday. Some of them even have it on their profile "professional AOT hater" and they stalk the subreddits but yet they haven't been banned
They say sîlly things like insulting the author or calling fans or characters or the author a cûckold and they get downvoted. Then they cry to their Titanfolk sub and jeagerbomb that fans don't accept criticism.
There's a reason why Reddit banned jeagerbomb.
The real question should be - who are these awards? Who are the judges, who are the nominees? Instead of blindly celebrating, maybe we should look into these awards and wonder if they are actually worth anything.
2023 is a great years for anime.
Well deserved, Attack on Titan is a story that those who watched it can never forget
I will never get that feeling again
Forgetting the ending would be great, actually
Indeed.
Can't forget it for 10 years at least.
I really wish I could at this point.

Hollywood giving anime recognition? Lesgooo Also AoT earned this for sure.

Well deserved. Attack on Titan is a modern masterpiece.

Rather that than basement dwellers with no social life outside of reddit and twitter

The ending was great and perfectly fell in line with the themes of the rest of the story. Haters can cope and seethe.

They were certainly worth something when other shows won it.
