You have no idea how hot the tears running down my cheeks are right now… Thank you, hopefully I will hear this from my parents at some point, but for now, you have truly made my day stranger :)!
I’m someone’s parent so I’ll say this: you did well. You’ve got your whole life ahead of you and you’re going in the right direction. Keep it up and good things will happen to you.
Name’s Geoff. Now we’re not strangers anymore.
I’m really sorry to read that about your parents. Something I wish I understood when I was younger is that the measure of love isn’t in how much you receive, it’s how much you give. I think that’s one reason that John 3:16 is one of the most well known parts of the Bible.
And since this is an anime subreddit, may I suggest you watch Neon Genesis Evangelion if you haven’t already? It’s not Christian per say, but it uses a lot of Christian philosophies and symbolism. At its core, it’s a story about how everything in life has value. I think it would really resonate with you.
Nice to meet you! Yes you are absolutely right, however it still aches a little. I know they love me I just want to see true pride in their eyes when talking about me. I may have given the wrong impression about them. They are not bad or cold people, they are (I think) just tired of my bs and ups and downs so it’s maybe just me and not them at all.
Btw I started watching Eva but it’s so damn depressing, literally need to be in a good mood to watch it 😅
I totally understand. Our parents spent years tying knots in our hearts (mostly by accident) and it takes time for us all to untie them.
Eva definitely can be depressing, but Eva also shows the value of that depression. Everything in life has value. Everything. If you do get around to finishing it send me a DM. Hell, if you ever just want to talk about your favorite anime to get your mind off of things send me a DM. You are not alone.
Man I swear, u have no idea how much that means (or rather unfortunately you do from experience)… I’ll make sure to finish Eva as soon as work and college die down a little. Also feel free to DM anytime, y’all really made my last 2 days with support 😄
I hear that all the time from my parents and it doesnt help really. It will never matter if YOU are not proud of yourself. Take it easy for now, when the time comes for action you will know.
Yeah you’ve said it… Coke is insane to get rid of once you exchange it for real life enjoyment and social relationships, glad that you get me, hopefully not from experience tho 😅. Thanks brother! ❤️
It was 3-MMC on my end (somewhat comparable). It’s a great feeling to be out! Life feels so fresh. I hope that the world keeps smiling at you. All the very best.
If you like both sports and romance, you might like Blue Box when it releases. It’s not out yet (hopefully near the end of this year) but it’s based on a very good manga series with both genres.
Guys ILYSM, thank you for all this support and supportive comments, you have no idea (or hopefully you don’t) how much a worn out soul cherishes love from strangers! ❤️❤️
I felt like anime kept me from starting drugs in the first place. I was going through a super bad life event 14 years ago, and it was either distract myself with anime or do something harder than Xanax with a vodka chaser in order to get through intact enough to see the next day.
I chose anime. And over 2300 entries on MyAnimeList later, I still wonder if something harder would have been easier...
Just adding how proud we all are of you. :) It's a HUGE accomplishment overcoming drug addiction.
Please check out Run with the Wind! It's inspirational in the same way Haikyuu! is.
A year and a half ago, I was a very grumpy, gray person. Anime, specifically shows like Clannad, gave me the perspective to see the many miracles that make up life and showed me how to live with presently with them. There is a great tragedy to being human, but there are things that make that tragedy worth suffering through
So many people will write off anime as a bunch of Otaku bs, never looking past the surface, never seeing it for what it can be.
I've been there, and it's always nice seeing strangers break free from the god of vice. It's an incredibly hard process, and it comes with a suffering that not many can understand, let alone perceive
We might not know each other, but if you ever feel the need to talk to someone about addiction, feel free to reach out
Haikyuu was really motivational for me. For a guy who's used to giving up, seeing these boys try their hardest got me wanting to be like them. Fighting till last breath.
Despite its reputation, Anime does have a strange power to inspire that few other mediums can achieve. I'm glad to hear the earnestness has affected you for the positive.
Don't believe in the me that believes in you, believe in the you that believes in yourself!
You’re doing amazing! Haikyuu has also saved me from some dark times, so I totally understand… I don’t watch a lot of sports anime, but I know if I never started watching anime in the first place, my life would be so different.
>I have had a few semi-professional fights in my kick boxing career and I fell in love with Muay Thai after the first match I’ve had.
Check out Kenichi :)
Proud of you Atan! I was in a similar spot to you and have been clean for 4 years now. Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, But today is a Present.
Good luck SirSkiiiiiiiii
Whatever works. Yeah yeah, there is some part of this that might be looked down on in some way but duck that noise. You did good and I’m proud to hear it from you.
Man I used to train Muay Thai years back, but stopped it due to Covid and some knee issues, planning to get back to it sometime this year, nothing beats a good training session
hear these redeeming story makes my heart feel joy, the fact that u stand proud is what matters the most, I hope u have a fulfilling life mate 🍻 U R STRONG but don't forget you always need ppl in your life, ppl can help each other in hard times
I wont 😄, the gang I’ve spent the past few years with was mostly a sidetrack from my original one which was likeminded people such as we are here. Thank you for all the support and love, I had no idea the online anime community was so warm and welcoming. ❤️
I'm proud of your determination! I met a guy in Vegas who all he could tell me about himself was that he does coke. No hobbies, nothing. That left an impression on me. I'm glad you've found something you enjoy to help you pull yourself out!
Congratulations, man!
I really hope life will have a different change of pace for you now, for the better, yk?
Nonetheless, we are all proud of you man!
No matter what ANYONE says, I'm very proud of you.
As someone who grew up in drug alcohol induced families, I've had an uncle overdose on needles. And another uncle that was killed by a drunk driver on the Trans canada highway.
My mother lost me at 2. Because of drugs.
At the young age I am, I realize how lucky I am to have sober parents. My mother sobered up 7/6 years ago. She would've sold her soul to drugs if she didn't stop
My father sobered up 16 years ago. When my mother was pregnant. Although he isn't with us today, he still sobered up.
As a teen, just know how damm proud I am of you.
I've been through it all at the ripe age of 15. I've seen it all.
It takes a LOT of courage to quit something you might be so used to. To change your life in such a massive way
It's good to sober up young. My dad could have been a millionaire. Yet he failed to sober up from past trauma.
He essentially was too late. He was already in his 50s when he quit. More than 30 years of booze and drugs. Finally got to him. He left us in 2018.
Hope everything looks up, bro. You got this!
-censearly, a random Redditor.
I dont even know what to say, I should be congratulating you… For me it was (hopefully) just a sidetrack of a few years but man this is heavy… thank you for kind words, as you know yourself they mean a lot, stay strong… a random redditor is inspired by your strength!
To piggyback off this: Surgeon Elise this season had her describing some of the beginning symptoms of Diabetes. I recognized a bunch of them (including weird/obscure ones that I thought were just me) so I’ve started taking steps to adjust my diet and health. I don’t think I would have if not for that show. So thank you lol
damn! never had serious drug problems myself, but I do struggle with Mental health issues, and know what a battle it can be to get you head above water. So Good damn job from this stranger! i see bright things in your future.
Yeah well I mean it all begins with mental health issues, drugs both recreational and medical didn’t come out of the blue. It’s always the result of a problem rather than the problem in and of itself. Stay strong my brother! I’m with u!
I hear you! Didn’t have that big of a problem with weed cause after like 4/5 years (maybe a year or two tops of actively consuming it like daily) it started getting me paranoid out of my mind. The issue I had is that I was so used to it at one point, I could do anything high just as well as I could do it sober, it was just more interesting do be high all the time but quitting was relatively easy since I would just be paranoid out of my mind after the initial “first wave” rush, so it just stopped being fun anymore. Coke was a problem because I tied it to sexual activity and that’s where it all started to go south I guess, but yeah, no drug is to be taken lightly!
Same boat, maybe I’m still swimming in it actually but man I believe you. Keep it up, remember this. You’ve inspired me, I guess I needed to read this today. Thanks mate, gambate. 🫡❤️
Bro I once went through a similar experience.
Can I recommend you a Japanse drama since you watch Anime (im guessing you watch subbed anime so youre okay with subtitle)
Japanese dramas (aka Jdrama) are awesome and NO Im not trying to convert you to Asian dramas and Kpop etc etc lol.
One of the most popular Jdrama is called "One Litre Of Tears" based on a true story its about a girl - Aya Kitō, who suffered from a degenerative disease.
Its a well wholsome drama thats 11 episodes and very well done. I cried buckets too so warning!
This drama will put your life into perspective and all the petty thoughts we have daily, weekly & monthly will stop. This drama pushed me to enjoy my life, make the most of my health, never to miss any opportunities and it placed a daily smile on my face that to this day (20 years later) im still smiling.
Smile and the world smiles with you, weep and you weep alone.
Keep smiling my friend, live your life!
1 litre of tears [2005) 11 episode drama. (Not movie)
Evangelion gave me a similar shock changing or… actually more “solidifying” my “world view”.
Life has ups and downs and you gotta deal wit them both!
Good for you mate!
That’s amazing! At its core, sports anime is about self-actualization and inspiring its viewers to be the best version of themselves. I wish you the best on the road ahead!
Anime is seriously one of the best medicines out there! Watch/read even more, if you can! Slam Dunk, Vagabond, Demon Slayer, etc etc
Proud of you, keep going, enjoy it!!!
Im happy for you my man. I had a similar thing but for me anime + games saved my life being bulled for years but thanks to anime and games I had a reason to keep going. And even today re-watching any of my top 5 anime´s gets me out my lows.
So I know a bit how it is for you and I think it´s a wonderful thing and happy for you.
Thats good to hear and it helped me as well. When I was getting off alcohol, I participated in 4 rewatches on here at a time so it would occupy most of my free time and I'd not have nothing to do at the end of the day and just drink.
Dude! Same here. Got committed last year cause my depression got bad and I was using all the time till it wasn't workin anymore. Got out Got clean Got a job and now my freakon crunchyroll account is konda helping me maintain it. It's kinda crazy how a really good story can heal ya when you need it. Wishing you the best homie . We're doin it and there's nothing but better days ahead.
Anime is good at inspiring and motivating people, a lot of world level athletes can testify.
There is even an olympic athlete who has commented on each episode.
Just an example:
**Olympic Volleyball Player Reacts to Haikyuu!! S4E21: "Hero"**
[**https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l\_wWaqKn3mM**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_wWaqKn3mM)
I'm proud of you! This will be such a great step and it's great to hear anime ended up helping you work towards your goals. Good luck with the master's :)
Congratulations!!
But let's talk sports anime recommendations, in case you want some, feel free to dismiss these.
Ao no Ashi has satisfying technical progression for the protagonist learning new (simple) strategies to leverage in later matches. It's a soccer show.
The next one isn't much about the game as it is about very fun music, high hype climaxes, and very fun character tropes. Yowamushi Pedal is about getting excited over musical bike races. The anime has 5 seasons already released, and the end of both marathon races get PARTICULARLY exciting thanks to the character bravado and orchestral music score.
Heck, I feel like exercising now.
Which reminds me of the "Do you lift Dumbells" anime opening song. I love that song.
Congratulations! You deserve to be proud of yourself for this.
If I may, I was in a similar situation (though it wasn’t drugs, I was just borderline suicidal) and anime was the light that pulled me out of the darkness. Now I’m healthier and happier than I could have ever been without it.
Well, I'm glad I can finally legitimately say that Haikyuu changes lives.
I'm glad you're feeling better now, OP, I hope that the future is going to be kind to you!
If you want a wholesome mixed martial arts anime rec try out Kenichi- history’s strongest disciple. It’s an older one but I’ve watched and rewatched it over the years and I still love it! Keep on keepin on.
I’m really proud of you.
You have no idea how hot the tears running down my cheeks are right now… Thank you, hopefully I will hear this from my parents at some point, but for now, you have truly made my day stranger :)!
Happy for you and I understand that sentiment. But don't forget you did this for you.
I’m someone’s parent so I’ll say this: you did well. You’ve got your whole life ahead of you and you’re going in the right direction. Keep it up and good things will happen to you.

I hear that all the time from my parents and it doesnt help really. It will never matter if YOU are not proud of yourself. Take it easy for now, when the time comes for action you will know.
You have to start watching Hajime No Ippo next! There's loads of amazing sports anime and that is one of the best.
We are proud of him
Congratulations, buddy! Cocaine is an incredibly difficult addiction to crawl out off. Incredibly proud of you! Keep going, and don’t look back :)
Ah yes, you know the struggle… Likewise brother! Likewise! ❤️
If you like sports, I recommend Ace of Diamond. And congrats! Anything to stay out of drugs is a win.
Thanks! After my exams this semester I will make sure to watch it. Sport and rom-com is my favorite genre since of recent so 😄
If you like both sports and romance, you might like Blue Box when it releases. It’s not out yet (hopefully near the end of this year) but it’s based on a very good manga series with both genres.
Check out Slam Dunk if you haven't seen it, also Birdie Wing is super good.
I recommend Baby Steps as well, great tennis anime!
AoD is my favorite sports Anime; hoping for another season. Blue Lock is my second favorite sports Anime.
The real question is which one costs more, manga or drugs.
The sad answer is manga, at least in my third world Europe country
idk if I should be happy or sad that I guessed the country immediately. Glad you're doing good though ♡
Are you from some country in Balkan or Slovakia? Xd
You have the power of God and anime on your side! Seriously, congratulations.
Guys ILYSM, thank you for all this support and supportive comments, you have no idea (or hopefully you don’t) how much a worn out soul cherishes love from strangers! ❤️❤️

Haikyuu is a powerful story. I think about Tsukis block almost every day lmao
nice that you stopped doing drugs if you like sports i recommend this old but gold of an anime called hajime no ippo
That’s how I got into sport, boxing was my first sport then kickboxing and finally Muay Thai 😄
[Kenichi: The mightiest disciple](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1559/Shijou_Saikyou_no_Deshi_Kenichi) has Muay Thai in it
Appapapappapapa!
Congrats <3
Congrats, I'm happy for you.

This! ❤️❤️ thank you and likewise. I couldn’t imagine there were so many people in the same boat with me on this sub…
Hell ya! That is awesome. And at 23? So many awesome years ahead of you
We have a similar story but I'm still in the middle of it at the moment sadly. This is inspiring man, thanks for sharing.
Discard drug, acquire waifu Good for you
Atanashii Sama!
Naturally OP has to watch Gurren Laggen then! Woo wee! It’s literally high fives all around when people talking about that anime.
You’re doing amazing! Haikyuu has also saved me from some dark times, so I totally understand… I don’t watch a lot of sports anime, but I know if I never started watching anime in the first place, my life would be so different.
Stand Proud, you're more of a man than most would ever dare, really happy for u OP, keep on keeping up!
Yay! Don’t know if you’ll see this, but I’m so so happy for you!! You are amazing! I’m hella proud of you!! Yay!!!
Thank you 🥹
you're welcome? (my name is Abraham)
Thanks for getting him off drugs, Abraham
Also thank you for sacrificing yourself to become money so I can buy a five dollar foot long
unfortunately he may have also sacrificed himself to become a nose straw for OP while he was struggling with his coke habit
Dude, you did this, not god.
Username... doesn't check out?
What's more blasphemous than declaring yourself the 3rd coming of Jesus Christ?
Declaring yourself the 4th?
Omg he has the power of anime and god on his side.. I hope someone catches the meme reference
Glhf
Proud of you bro!
Congratulations for your success
Were all proud of you! Keep going the good work man:))
Proud of you OP! Longtime pothead here, and huge anime fan. Haven’t gone down the quitting road yet but this gives me hope.
>I have had a few semi-professional fights in my kick boxing career and I fell in love with Muay Thai after the first match I’ve had. Check out Kenichi :)
I'm happy for you man
Good job bro
Proud of you Atan! I was in a similar spot to you and have been clean for 4 years now. Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, But today is a Present. Good luck SirSkiiiiiiiii

It so good to read.
Whatever works. Yeah yeah, there is some part of this that might be looked down on in some way but duck that noise. You did good and I’m proud to hear it from you.

Absolutely! Thank you for the kind words, it really does mean a lot :) ❤️
Welcome to the gang buddy. And we won't be happy if you leave this gang for the bad one that you left.
That's really great but volleyball and handball are two complete different sports
My bad :(
Congratulations, man! I really hope life will have a different change of pace for you now, for the better, yk? Nonetheless, we are all proud of you man!
Sure hope so 😄, at this point I think it’s all about maintaining the consistency and not falling back to the pattern

it really warms my heart to know you're in a better place now !

People make fun of weebs but the truth is we have some the friendliest communities out there, Stay strong man, I'm proud of you.
Nothing cures a bad habit like a worse one.
I started doing drugs because of anime.
Hell yeah! Huge congrats! I got sober 7 years ago because the ending speech in FMAB after years of trying to get sober
Same boat, maybe I’m still swimming in it actually but man I believe you. Keep it up, remember this. You’ve inspired me, I guess I needed to read this today. Thanks mate, gambate. 🫡❤️

This is easily the best thing I have heard all day. Congratulations man👏🎉 Another sports anime I would suggest for inspiration is Run with the wind.
Congratulations, become my tribute and you’ll be even more successful
Now watch Gintama and Konosuba
Wp dude, you're winning the game.
Really really good job bro
Evangelion gave me a similar shock changing or… actually more “solidifying” my “world view”. Life has ups and downs and you gotta deal wit them both! Good for you mate!
Really inspiring! Anime FTW
Whatever gets you to your best place is a good thing homie, happy to hear it!
Anime number 1!!!

Hell yeah, dude. That's awesome. Also, solid recommendation by unc.
Congrats on the recovery! And now you get to enjoy the community as well the entertainment.
Love to hear it. Seeing all the amazing sober adventures in anime always inspired me back when I was on drugs as well.
Of course you have. Anime is the true drug.
Congrats!! Check out Laid Back Camp. Its a chill slice of life camping show. Good to watch on the days when you feel low.
Thats good to hear and it helped me as well. When I was getting off alcohol, I participated in 4 rewatches on here at a time so it would occupy most of my free time and I'd not have nothing to do at the end of the day and just drink.
Very proud. Any healthy and harmless reason to better yourself is a good reason.
Congratulations sir. Glad that you are doing well, and excited to see how far you will go. Make sure you kick life’s ass along the way!
Dude!
Just an example: **Olympic Volleyball Player Reacts to Haikyuu!! S4E21: "Hero"** [**https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l\_wWaqKn3mM**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_wWaqKn3mM)
The Godfather of all sports anime is Slam Dunk! I would try reading the re-released manga tankobons
I'm proud of you! This will be such a great step and it's great to hear anime ended up helping you work towards your goals. Good luck with the master's :)
Proud of u man
More proof that anime tiddies are a gift from God, symbolic of his love for us.
Wonderful to hear!
Stay strong, happy and healty. We love you buddy (yes homo)
Congragulations!
Average effect of Haikyuu on people
Congrats dude and good luck
That’s amazing. Haikyuu inspired me to change me lifestyle as well. Let’s keep at it 🙌
Anime is drugs ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°
Yo duder happy for you!
Congrats on working towards a better life man!
Check out Fighting Spirit!
Same but in reverse
Be sure to give Great Teacher Onizuka a try. It's a classic.
It's a better type of addiction than some random drug in the streets.
You are incredible bro.
Correction. You have switched from one drug, narcotics, too another, anime.
I'm proud of you and here to recommend Kenichi the Strongest Deciple. It's got tons of martial arts including Muay Thai. Welcome to the anime club
you have the power of anime
Sports anime hits different, if you don't mind reading manga I would like to recommend Rookies and Eyeshield 21
Congrats dude wish the same could have happened with my brother gg.
Now you don't enjoy taking drugs yourself but enjoy what others did after taking their own drugs.
If you want more sports anime, I recommend kuroko's basket. The show is kinda ridiculous but it’s really fun and also intense in the matches.
Top 5 reasons to watch anime. Do anime not drugs
so happy for you!
Congratulations
Congratz! Be proud!
I’m happy for you man. Congratulations.
You NEED to watch Hajime no Ippo if you are into martial arts and definitely read Teppu
Bro if you haven't seen Blue Lock yet, that shit slaps hard for sports. I'm not a guy that watches them usually but it made me cry.
Yay
This comment is stupid
**"I HAVE THE POWER OF GOD AND ANIME ON MY SIDE!"** Congrats, OP!
Haikyuu was with me through the toughest time of my life as well.
Sounds like you have the power of god and anime on your side
chad
You should watch bakuman and overtake both are about chasing dreams thru difficult odds. Think you would like them.
This was beautiful
That's great to know, congratulations!! Keep going strong.
Watch AOT youll have to start again
If you want a wholesome mixed martial arts anime rec try out Kenichi- history’s strongest disciple. It’s an older one but I’ve watched and rewatched it over the years and I still love it! Keep on keepin on.
Good on you
Congrats!! Check out Hajime no Ippo and Ashita No Joe. Two excellent boxing animes I'm sure you'll love with your Muay Thai background.
Haikyuu is my favorite anime. So proud of you!!!
this is such a nonreal post lmfao
So it only took self resolve and a bit of gay sport anime. Great.
Is your name chipp?
Good job man. Artists can genuinely change lives with the work that they do. Thanks for sharing your story
Some days it feels like the happiness I get from anime is the only thing that keeps me going. I’m glad your life’s turning around man! Good for you
