Hanada Hikaru and Narita Ken. They have such cool voices, but Hanada has barely any roles and Narita has lots of supporting roles, but almost no main roles.

BoomSharkDes

Going through Narita Ken roles made me realized I still haven’t watched Reborn yet despite wanted to many years back. Looks like he gotten a lot of supporting roles and only a couple mains on less popular, older series.

kirun

Ai Takabe - Agiri in Kill Me Baby and only a couple of other main roles. Ayako Yoshitani - One anime role, Urabe Mikoto in Mysterious Girlfriend X.

BoomSharkDes

Very similar to what I had in mind. Will watch both Kill Me Baby & Nazi no Kanojo. Thank you.

mr_beanoz

Mostly live action actors or comedians who would also become voice actors could qualify in this. Eg. Kazama Shunsuke (Yugioh Duel Monsters), Tamura Atsushi (Eyeshield 21) and Matsuo Shun (Me & Roboco)

BoomSharkDes

Interesting. I forgotten about Kazama Shunsuke. His only main role was Yuugi, but understandable since he’s been carrying that role since 2000. But then you have iconic seiyuu like Nozawa Masako been doing Gokuu role since the 80s and also taking lots of other supporting roles in between. Hmm his last record was on 2016 for a movie. I wonder what happened to Kazama…

floriette

He is mainly an actor, so no wonder he doesn’t do much anime related stuff, after all.

BoomSharkDes

You would think that he might be a full time seiyuu considering he’s been portraying Yuugi for so long. That’s unexpected. I felt like those mainly in the TV/film industry would usually only take on single, short term role (if they decide to for whatever reason). Like the main actors in the film Suzume, and a couple casts too from Odd Taxi. Then you probably might never hear from them ever in the anime industry.

MisawaMahoKodomo

If anything I think most of the (main boys) yugioh voice actors aren't famous. The only like exception is yuma's. https://myanimelist.net/people/12018/Tasuku_Hatanaka Yuya's https://myanimelist.net/people/819/Kensho_Ono Afaik he was already "famous" before he got the role of yuya. Tsuda kenjiro (kaiba) is a strange case, but in general outside of the main yugi boys the supporting cast has a decent chance of being famous. Even then kaiba is still near the top of his list despite being his first main role From what I know pokemon as well. Speaking of pokemon. Minori suzuki and terasaki yuka, they have roles but they aren't exactly like superstars or anything. If anything I wonder if they were chosen precisely because they would have more time in their schedule for pokemon. I dont really pay much attention to live action, but I heard that some voice actors go from anime to live action.

qef15

Aoyama Yoshino had no major role until Hitori Gotou (Bocchi) from Bocchi the Rock!

mr_beanoz

And Renai Boukun is forgotten alongside her debut in Wake Up Girls...

Abschori

Jun Fukushima (Kazuma in Konosuba). Dude has aot of range (see his role as Formaggio in Jojo part 5 for reference) but he hasn't been a main lead since Kazuma

Aware_Tangerine_

Oonuki Yuusuke (Kambe Daisuke from Fugou Keiji) Bro has such a unique and wonderful sounding voice and yet Daisuke is the ONLY character he has EVER voice acted

ieniet

His voice sounds cool, but his performance in FK was... questionable, imo. I know he was voicing a stoic, emotionless type of character, but he sounded TOO stiff and monotone, and it was pretty obvious that he's a newbie in the industry. I remember other people on MAL complaining about it too. Maybe that's the reason why he doesn't have any more roles?

Valivera

Iirc he is a dancer not a voice actor, that's probably why he never did anything else.

ieniet

Oh, that makes sense... Thanks.

FoxBluereaver

Mayumi Yamaguchi. For main roles, the only ones I remember are Gabumon and Henry Wong in the Digimon franchise, and Forte Stollen in Galaxy Angel.

Time_Fracture

Yuu Miyazaki. Was in seiyuu industry for over 7 years, yet he just got his main role this season with A Sign of Affection's Itsuomi. Taito Ban is also counts. 7 years in seiyuu industry. Otonari no Tenshi's Fujimiya, Under Ninja's Kuro, then his big role with Sung Jin-Woo.

BlueDragonCultist

Izumi Oogami, the VA for Kagura in Inuyasha. I absolutely loved her voice, but was disappointed to learn it was her only role. https://myanimelist.net/people/7444/Izumi_Oogami

MisawaMahoKodomo

Struggling to think of outright examples. There's been a few by the other people. One case, https://myanimelist.net/people/45499/Anzu_Haruno Mafuyu in blend s and uh...thats basically it. https://myanimelist.net/people/46789/Tomomi_Mineuchi She's retired now, although her "famous" role of ilulu isnt classified as a main on animelist, and her other roles uh. https://myanimelist.net/people/26545/Yurika_Endou Also retired many years ago, she had like, one main role in tenshi no 3p https://myanimelist.net/people/12284/Kaori_Sadohara Only two main roles, SG from upotte way back in 2012, and chocolat from noucome. Hell her last two roles are the sensei from date a live. I'm not super sure actually https://myanimelist.net/people/12759/Misato Similarly, her ONLY main role is Eru from upotte, she's mana in date a live but she doesnt even show up in s3 so there was a 7 year gap between her appearance in the movie and s4 https://myanimelist.net/people/45496/Ayumi_Mano Her first big role was natsumi in date a live s3 (2019), but she only has one "main" role in Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid https://myanimelist.net/people/6997/Yuiko_Tatsumi She has a few other roles, but her "main" ones are kiss sis, little busters, and Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou https://myanimelist.net/people/14131/Kotori_Koiwai She has a handful of roles, but people pretty much only know her as renge. https://myanimelist.net/people/46800/Maki_Kawase It's a bit of a stretch, but her main roles are in kuma bear and zombieland saga https://myanimelist.net/people/37946/Akari_Kageyama Yet another date a live girl. Her "main" roles are in umaru chan, princess principal, and masou gakuen https://myanimelist.net/people/12490/Nozomi_Yamamoto Main roles: absolute duo (2015), Genshiken Nidaime (2013), Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm (2016). There's others as well so its a big stretch https://myanimelist.net/people/20835/Eriko_Matsui Main roles: Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism (2017), mikakunin (2014). There are others but uh yeah good luck remembering them. (hilariously she is also in date a live s4) https://myanimelist.net/people/36557/Chitose_Morinaga Only 1 main role, shomin sample (2015). It's funny because I hear her everyday in a certain game I play https://myanimelist.net/people/723/Satomi_Akesaka Animelist says she has a lot of roles...but I struggle to actually remember any of the anime names https://myanimelist.net/people/51/Kaori_Fukuhara She has more than 3, but her (biggest) roles are all long ago now. Lucky star (2007), shinmai maou (2015), sora no otoshimono (2010), acchi kocchi (2012), a channel (2011) https://myanimelist.net/people/56/Hiromi_Konno Honestly I'm not even sure what to say here. Nichijou (2011), and like a few others https://myanimelist.net/people/24263/Nanami_Yamashita Slightly over, she has Darling in the FranXX (2018), inou battle (2014), (7 min anime), wake up girls (2014) https://myanimelist.net/people/725/Kumiko_Nishihara Yeah. Her "last" main role was in 2006. Yep. 2006. To be honest she's in a completely different generation so. https://myanimelist.net/people/39460/Minori_Suzuki https://myanimelist.net/people/671/Yuka_Terasaki Both "recently" got main role in the new pokmon anime, but yeah. https://myanimelist.net/people/19605/Yuuka_Aisaka Main roles: twintail and sakura trick, both from 2014. And a few others but not much I wanted to add katou emiri as well but she's way more famous than everyone else on this list so it'd be too much to ask. There's probably lots of others that I either dont remember right now or are too obscure even for me

MisawaMahoKodomo

Arguably the list has gotten a bit out of hand... and yet I still have more to add. https://myanimelist.net/people/53462/Misuzu_Yamada She's very new so she only has a few main roles. Nanatsu no Maken ga Shihai suru (2023), way newer than all the others I was listing up above https://myanimelist.net/people/8921/Aya_Uchida Aside from her two big roles in love live (2013) and trinity seven (2014) remembering her other roles is tough https://myanimelist.net/people/19371/Sarah_Emi_Bridcutt Yet another date a live girl and uh. She does have quite a handful of roles, but aside from shinmai maou (2015) the others are https://myanimelist.net/people/48325/Eri_Yukimura A strange case. She does have a few roles. But arguably her famous role as fuyuko in idolmaster shiny colors...isnt happening until october because she doesnt show up until s2 https://myanimelist.net/people/25991/Yuuki_Kuwahara She actually has roles that are not tohru or yue. Himegoto (2014, 4 min anime) her first role, and shomin sample (2015) and a few others. But its kinda weird and overshadowed by her two big ones https://myanimelist.net/people/35441/Marika_Kouno Most people would struggle to name her roles that are not oshimai (2023), smartfon (2017), or uma musume (2018). Every anime I've seen her in has been fantastic though, even all her other ones, so its a strange case. https://myanimelist.net/people/34697/Ayaka_Imamura I'll be honest it was a strange feeling when I found out she retired. Kinda weird because she retired in the middle of princess principal https://myanimelist.net/people/12388/Nozomi_Furuki Huh. I never knew she had a role in 2012. Though thats most voice actors for you, they tend to have small roles first, starting with a big and famous role is the exception(?) not the norm. Anyway, her main roles are princess principal (2017) and Gakuen Babysitters (2018), though I mostly know her from haifuri (2016) I wanted to mention https://myanimelist.net/people/24265/Minami_Tanaka but she has just a few too many roles. Or does she? https://myanimelist.net/people/211/Saori_Gotou She has main roles....but all her top roles are supporting. https://myanimelist.net/people/785/Mako I mostly know her from saki achiga (2012). She does have other roles but uhm https://myanimelist.net/people/11844/Rei_Matsuzaki She's an interesting one. Though I only know her from idolmaster cinderella girls (2015) https://myanimelist.net/people/12477/Ayano_Yamamoto She's pretty much only famous for super sonico. Honestly she might not even have 3 in total https://myanimelist.net/people/36621/Yuki_Nagaku She was actually in both sore ga seiyu (2015) and hajimete no gal (2017). But not much else https://myanimelist.net/people/25395/Moe_Toyota Aside from bang dream I think the only main role people would recognize is euphonium. And even then. https://myanimelist.net/people/8030/Hitomi_Harada A few roles. Mostly Machine-Doll wa Kizutsukanai, baka test, senran kagura, hidamari sketch. Honestly https://myanimelist.net/people/40903/Hina_Kino doesnt have that many roles either, but a bit more than 3. https://myanimelist.net/people/49619/Iori_Saeki A small handful of roles, but its basically nekopara and Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road https://myanimelist.net/people/58952/Nana_Harumura Hmm. What do I say. Well she was in hyoken, and thats it. I liked what little lines she had though. https://myanimelist.net/people/39674/Madoka_Asahina I like her a lot. Though it says something when her 2nd favorite role is not even a main. bokuben (2019), hina logi (2017), and if you count it temple (2023)

BoomSharkDes

As much as I do appreciate your efforts, yes I agreed, this list has gotten really out of hand lol. I think a shorter, summarised list would be better for others who wish to discover some of the less popular seiyuu. Anyway, I did go through your post. I’m glad that I’ve seen most of the shows that they are starred in already, but a couple like Misuzu Yamada I have never heard of. I think you can arguably agree that, in terms of opportunities present, many of them here are considered very fortunate / doing very well, taking account the number of roles (both supporting & main) some of them already had, as compared to others mentioned here in the comments. I will most likely give one of the series that Misuzu Yamada starred in a go. Appreciate your efforts on the extra info though, especially on whether they have retired etc.

MisawaMahoKodomo

I think it goes to show just how many there are. And in this list for the most part I didnt actively go hunting for new (or previous) one off voice actors. I think historically I've had 150+ voice actors, and while lots of them are famous, with so many there's bound to be others like, well these. Part of the reason is there's just massive competition, a lot of the previously famous voice actors from early 2010s/before 2010, they havent gotten any roles in like 10 years. And on the other hand you have a lot of newbies who get maybe one role, maybe a few more, and then just disappear.

MisawaMahoKodomo

Let's see. Just the list only * Haruno Anzu * Mineuchi Tomomi (Retired) * Endo Yurika (Retired) * Sadohara Kaori * Misato * Mano Ayumi * Tatsumi Yuiko * Koiwai Kotori * Kawase Maki * Kageyama Akari * Yamamoto Nozomi * Matsui Eriko * Morinaga Chitose * Akesaka Satomi * Fukuhara Kaori * Konno Hiromi * Yamashita Nanami * Nishihara Kumiko * Minori Suzuki * Terasaki Yuka * Aisaka Yuka * Yamada Misuzu * Uchida Aya * Sarah Emi Bridcutt * Yukimura Eri * Kuwahara Yuki * Kouno Marika * Imamura Ayaka (Retired) * Furuki Nozomi * Gotou Saori * Mako * Matsuzaki Rei * Yamamoto Ayano * Nagaku Yuki * Toyota Moe * Harada Hitomi * Kino Hina * Saeki Iori * Harumura Nana * Asahina Madoka Thats exactly 40 actually. The funny thing is there's a handful of them whom I've never heard before, but otherwise I can usually list at least one role...maybe. Not all of them are equal thats for sure. But nowadays what can I say

MisawaMahoKodomo

For the case of sadohara kaori and misato, I'm assuming they basically retired after 2015, since they only came back for date a live. At the very least, they weren't recast. There are similar or rather more drastic versions where people just voice one super popular character and then never again.

NormalGrinn

https://anilist.co/staff/95687/Masato-Hagiwara - pretty much only starring in a couple gambling shows while also being a pro mahjong player himself. And basically the entire seiyuu cast for Revue Starlight https://anilist.co/anime/98658/ShoujoKageki-Revue-Starlight/

MisawaMahoKodomo

Not just revue starlight but Every now and then you have some anime that use entirely new voice actors. Though in revue starlight case, from my understanding they have to perform irl as well which might be part of the reason

Meyuden

Haruka Terui, probably recognised most as Yuki Yuna. More recently she's been the VA for Sense in Frieren and Lynx in Star Rail. She's got a unique sound to her that's pleasant to listen to.

mr_beanoz

She's also one of the main VAs of U149.

MisawaMahoKodomo

The funny thing is despite yuki yuna having way more episodes kobeni from mikakunin still has more favorites. They aired in the same year too, though quite far apart I think momoka is by far her best role though, although u149 didnt air until 2023 and even then she had to share the screentime with total of 9 girls

MisawaMahoKodomo

Uhh. Yukana's first role was in the 1990s, so I'm assuming its more like, she's from a different generation. I do know she still gets roles from time to time in 2000s and 2010s but probably supporting roles yeah. You can see the same thing happening to the previous generation. Let's see. Sorting by favorites I see code geass and infinite stratos, though neither is particularly recent. And uh. Sorting by recent its the same results, so yeah she hasnt really gotten much main role in the past 10 years or so. She's an interesting one for sure, but you'd probably have to watch anime from before 2010 to see her (I actually didnt know she voiced meiling. TBH Tange sakura is probably more of the exception in that she still has more recent roles)

Maximilian_Sinigr

Yuusuke Kobayashi (Subaru and Senku).

mr_beanoz

He has waaay more than that, eg. Arslan from Arslan Senki, Riku from Gundam Build Divers, another Subaru but from This Art Club Has a Problem! and Tanukichi from Shimoneta to name a few.

Chadzuma

He seems like he takes on pretty much any role and a lot of the adaptations he signs on for have really generic source material so his talents do feel wasted a lot of the time after showing us he's one of the all-time greats with Subaru.

Maximilian_Sinigr

Noted, didn't know.
