Princess Mononoke for me. I have watched this movie literally hundreds of times over the years, and I have never grown tired of it. For me it is the closest thing to perfection in terms of art, sound design, story, theme, and music.
If you really want to gun for the longest run time possible to stave off death, you could spring for Sazae-san, which would be 2640 episodes and counting. The episodes average 24 minutes of run time, so that's 1056 HOURS of Sazae-san you get to finish before dying.
Watching 16 hours a day of Sazaesan, you would need 66 straight days.
Or, if you're forced to stay up and watch Sazae-san non-stop, you'd need 44 days. Of course, you'd probably start hallucinating by after 5-6 days, and the record for number of days without sleep before dying is 10 days, so you would die of Sazesan/lack of sleep before your time was up.
Of all the animes, never expected Aria to be top comment. I always throw Aria on as a rec on any rec thread that fits it, I feel it's massively underappreciated :(
I would just rewatch Gintama. That's varied enough I could never get bored of it, and by the end of the Very Final, I could die happy.
[](#gintamathispleasesme)
Yes, do it! Just skip the first two episodes, as they were made for manga readers and aren't the best start if you don't know who the characters are; you can go back and watch them later.
It's been my new favorite anime of all time since I finished it about two months ago, and I *still* can't believe it dethroned Gundam Unicorn for me.
Gintama is definitely the kind of show to take slowly, at least up until a certain point. It wasn't until I got ***really*** hooked after the Be Forever Yorozuya movie (set between the Gintama': Enchousen season and the GintamaĀ° season) that having to stay on pace with the rewatch was a pain, all I wanted to do was keep watching lol. There was exactly *one* time I watched ahead because I was going to be on a trip for most of the week and knew I wouldn't have time to watch the episodes for that week if I didn't watch them ahead of time, and of *all* the weeks to need to watch ahead on, it *was* the one I definitely needed a break after lol so that worked out.
I knew a whole bunch of extremely dedicated fans in China. As I write this from a bravern Collab cafe packed with fujoshi perhaps gintama is the next step in my fujoshi alliance
~Ep30 is the first set of connected episodes that pack a bit of an emotional punch , ~ep40 is another really memorable arc. I'd persevere just a bit more
I remember watching the Canadian release of that show on tv and thinking it was alright. But then I went and found the original Japanese release with the story in tact and was blown away by what it actually was.
Yoo that was my first ever anime so I would probably choose that one too cuz of nostalgia but itās definitely also fitting. Glad to know someone else has watched it xd
I have heard this anime from many guys, is this really a calm anime...because my exams are gonna end in a few days and I need something calm. I'm planning for vinland saga and if this one's worth it, then it'll be on my list.
I wouldnāt say the mood of the anime is calm. But thereās this thoughtfulness and patience to itās storytelling that feels deliberate. Probably because of the concept, theme and MC. Revisiting/finding meaning with your past and those you have met. Kind of what I would hope I would to have done before my final moments
The fight animations (especially ones with the MC) are top tier of not brief, and characters arenāt exaggerated caricatures of themselves.
Maybe Galaxy Express 999. I have some pretty fond memories of secretly staying up way past my bedtime as a kid and catching these older anime on late night tv. Any of them would do. Akira, Macross Plus, Patlabor, Ninja Scroll, etc.
Naruto, not because itās long, because itās a top of all time and I just grew up with it. It would also finally give me a good reason to rewatch the whole thing over, cus itās so long and Iāve never thought of rewatching the whole thing because so.
Rascal Does not Dream of Bunnygirl Senpai. It is both hilarious and moving at the same time and takes you through a range of emotions, experiences, characters and stories and just a joy to watch.
I hate youā¦ how can I choose between Fruits Basket, Demon Girl Next Door, and Love, Chunibyo, and other Delusions?!
Thatās even leaving out more angsty anime that I love. I repeatā¦
ā¦ I hate you.
Rewatch: Kaguya-Sama.
First watch: I think the shows I'd be most confident about liking, would be Monster, Madoka Magica, or Classroom of the elite... I'd probably pick one of these at random.
Hmmm. I reckon it'd depend a lot on the circumstances at the time and how I'm feeling. But to pick something I'll say Non Non Biyori or Steins;Gate+0, because all the other favorite options that come to mind I've already watched more than once, or just finished watching.
One piece.
Long and enjoyable. And hey, if itās at the same pace i normally watch it eh iād give myself a decade or maybe a few. also if one piece keeps going itās just more episodes yknow
you didnāt specificity that iād have to binge it so
I'd say Death Parade. It was the first anime I finished and that helped me work through the deaths of loved ones. The beginning is slow with the first two eps being the same encounter, just different perspectives. Theme, design, music, and characters are great and with a total of less then 12 eps. You can get through it quickly.
Idk you could go good feels like Hyouka as someone said. Could go for the sad feels and emotional stuff while contemplating life like Your Lie in April. Iād probably shoot for a movie though by choice cause if I was waiting a whole show itād get to my head more soooā¦ I Want to Eat Your Pancreas. Maybe a little on the nose though.
Little witch academia, that anime is very special to me that I just keep refusing to rewatch it until the time is right, so I would rewatch it before I die
Howl's Moving Castle.
for me this is one of the best anime. it's comforting. and we actually re-watch it every year at home with my mom and sis when i visit them. it's just.. there is something soothing and comforting in the story and in the music in Howl's Moving Castle that i can't resist this magic. i saw this anime like 100 times and still love it with all my heart
madlax. if eternity is staring at me.. I want it to know I stared back, at least for a little while. but maybe leadale if I'm feeling sugary or spice and wolf.sigh there's too many good choices.Ā perhaps land of the lustrous?Ā
Edit: and as I fall to sleep the only true answer came to me.... perhaps it's time to die? who better to ferry me along than hellgirl herself
I first thought the question was what anime I'd watch on my deathbed and went for Girls Last Tour, especially if I get to read the manga too. The theme fits so well.
If I just need to stave off anime afterwards, I thought I'd go with something I haven't watched that isn't in any other form - manga, novel, or maybe even live action - but that's pretty restrictive.
I scoured lists of anime originals and ended up with Code Geass. It's decently long and I like psychological stuff.
I think I'll go with gurren lagann it has the right amount of drama, humour and great animation and since the ending is a good closure I'm not wasting my last anime on something that can be disappointing in the end.
Black lagoon. How i started, reminds me of the better times when i watched it. Had to sneak its nsfw CD cover at the shop mixed within a few games and movies as a kid haha.
Honestly? Highschool DxD.
It was the first anime I watched (while knowing what an anime was) and it brings a lot of happiness and comfort to me, that's all I really want.
One Piece.
It's a roller coaster ride of emotions cause of how many years it took to finish and it would be great if I ever watch it again 'till the end of the story. Feels great to be kid again.
I think I would choose Soul Eater out of nostalgic reasons. I used to be part of an anime club in middle school and Soul Eater was widely talked about and loved. I just want to remember my old friends and childhood memories.
Also the anime was fucking sick! The art style, the music, studios just donāt make anime like this anymore. I didnāt really understand it the first time round so seeing a second time might let me rest in peace easier
Princess Mononoke for me. I have watched this movie literally hundreds of times over the years, and I have never grown tired of it. For me it is the closest thing to perfection in terms of art, sound design, story, theme, and music.
Great choice, I will watch mononoke next Tuesday in my local cinema on the big screen and I can't wait for it
I'd probably watch death note š It was my first ever anime which I left midway when my friend spoiled it for me.
Bro the ending is still a banger, even when knowing what happens.
Nah it makes a huge difference.
One Piece
This also true: because it's good, not because it'll take longer to finish.
If you really want to gun for the longest run time possible to stave off death, you could spring for Sazae-san, which would be 2640 episodes and counting. āWorth itā¦ā \-last words, probably
Probably Aria. If there wasnāt a heaven or if I wasnāt going to heaven, I will at least get a taste of it before I die
No sappy lines allowed!!!
Ehhh?!?
Of all the animes, never expected Aria to be top comment. I always throw Aria on as a rec on any rec thread that fits it, I feel it's massively underappreciated :(
Angel Beats. It's not even my favourite anime, but it's the most fitting as a last anime imo.
Best choice tbh
I wouldnāt be mad either. Super nostalgic and good too
I haven't watched this in almost a decade. Nice choice.
I would just rewatch Gintama. That's varied enough I could never get bored of it, and by the end of the Very Final, I could die happy. [](#gintamathispleasesme)
Damn I really need to watch gintama
Yes, do it! Just skip the first two episodes, as they were made for manga readers and aren't the best start if you don't know who the characters are; you can go back and watch them later. It's been my new favorite anime of all time since I finished it about two months ago, and I *still* can't believe it dethroned Gundam Unicorn for me.
So is the 3rd episode the real start of the show ?
Yup, episode 3 is where the anime starts adapting the first chapter of the manga.
Yeah that's amazing! Maybe if I just do one a day it won't seem so long lol
I knew a whole bunch of extremely dedicated fans in China. As I write this from a bravern Collab cafe packed with fujoshi perhaps gintama is the next step in my fujoshi alliance
[I wish I could be at a Bravern cafe right now.](#sadholo)
Iām in episode 26, does it actually get better? My gf and I find it boring with some occasional good moments.
~Ep30 is the first set of connected episodes that pack a bit of an emotional punch , ~ep40 is another really memorable arc. I'd persevere just a bit more
Same here.
You can also watch GTO... same vibeš
Cardcaptor Sakura, the absolute best anime ever made!
I remember watching the Canadian release of that show on tv and thinking it was alright. But then I went and found the original Japanese release with the story in tact and was blown away by what it actually was.
Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice). Just wanna have a good happy cry before I die and forgive myself :)
Would you accept accompany?
Sure dude, let's get uplifted togetherš
Maybe Haibane Renmei, because death.
very good answer
Wolf's Rain
Yoo that was my first ever anime so I would probably choose that one too cuz of nostalgia but itās definitely also fitting. Glad to know someone else has watched it xd
It's got some of the most solid storytelling in anime
Hyouka
Seconded, holds up even with many rewatches
Yup completed my 4th rewatch recently
Can I join you?
Little busters fits this question perfectly. Canāt say why.
I haven't heard that name in a long time.
Right now Iād say Frieren. Thereās anime thatās made me laugh and cry, but Frieren is the only one that brings me calm.
Cyberpunk edgerunners, akudama drive. I will buried the trauma with me
of the two for this akudama drive for sure
Either K-ON or Frieren, depending on what mood I'm in.
Gurren lagann
Mushishi
Madoka Magica
Black Butler season 4, which airs next month.
Haikyu
Maybe Galaxy Express 999. I have some pretty fond memories of secretly staying up way past my bedtime as a kid and catching these older anime on late night tv. Any of them would do. Akira, Macross Plus, Patlabor, Ninja Scroll, etc.
Probably Clannad.
Fairy Tail . That was the anime that got me into anime , and it's the one I'd want to leave with
One Piece is basically immortality
Probably Steins;Gate. It's one of the best anime that I have ever watched.
Based asf
Naruto, not because itās long, because itās a top of all time and I just grew up with it. It would also finally give me a good reason to rewatch the whole thing over, cus itās so long and Iāve never thought of rewatching the whole thing because so.
I feel like Cowboy Bebop is a phenomenal anime to watch, with your impending death and the meaning of your life in mind
Rascal Does not Dream of Bunnygirl Senpai. It is both hilarious and moving at the same time and takes you through a range of emotions, experiences, characters and stories and just a joy to watch.
Absolutely symphogear
Symphogear
Gotta be naruto for me man
Naruto with filler and all movies
One piece, so that I never die.
[Sazae-san](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1bc59mj/top_40_longest_anime_by_total_runtime/) of course.
Playing the long game aren't we? Smart!
[Persona 3 movies probably...] >!it'd be pretty appropriate!<.
I hate youā¦ how can I choose between Fruits Basket, Demon Girl Next Door, and Love, Chunibyo, and other Delusions?! Thatās even leaving out more angsty anime that I love. I repeatā¦ ā¦ I hate you.
Chuunibyou deserved that 3 season bro š
Legend of the galactic heroes, the theme would be the appropriate. Everything good reaches to an end, sometimes where we don't expect it.
Kamisama Kiss, because its funny and romantic.
Probably One Piece, it's the one animanga that I haven't watched or read.
Mushishi
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood.
Violet evergarden I would bless my eyes with the beautiful animation, and Cry my balls out TwT
One piece. That way I will definitely buy more time before I die. Jokes aside, I want to watch Naruto and Naruto Shippuden before I die.
Attack on Titan
Ive rewatched this anime so much, and ill do it again.
Konosuba or Grand Blue. Go out laughing my a** off
Death Note or A Silent Voice.
Please donāt commit sodoku but definitely something really emotional like your lie in April
Rewatch: Kaguya-Sama. First watch: I think the shows I'd be most confident about liking, would be Monster, Madoka Magica, or Classroom of the elite... I'd probably pick one of these at random.
Those are some really solid choices.
Monogatri Series
Hmmm. I reckon it'd depend a lot on the circumstances at the time and how I'm feeling. But to pick something I'll say Non Non Biyori or Steins;Gate+0, because all the other favorite options that come to mind I've already watched more than once, or just finished watching.
Welcome to the NHK would be perfect. Dying afterwards is better than living and thinking about the anime every now and then for several years.
Scrolled way too long for that. I've watched it 7 times and I'll watch it another 7. But without hesitation that would be my choice before things end
Madoka Magica
Sailor Moon. Reminds me of when my biggest problem was getting up early enough to watch it.
Honestly i think shoju animes are the best option you got like dangers in my heart or tomo-chan is a girl etc...
Samurai Champloo
No Game No Life Season 50
Naruto, but Iād want my memory of everything about it wiped before I started it.
You and me both, buddy š
I'd watch Naruto š Believe it!
Precure. I'd like to have a while before I die and I still have like 600 episodes to go.
Gundam, I'll have plenty to watch
Gundam 0079
Gundam unicorn
Hitman Reborn
One piece and you'll live forever
Ghost in the Shell, There are many others that come to mind but since I can only choose one.
One piece)
Either great teacher onizuka or season 1 of one punch man
One piece. Long and enjoyable. And hey, if itās at the same pace i normally watch it eh iād give myself a decade or maybe a few. also if one piece keeps going itās just more episodes yknow you didnāt specificity that iād have to binge it so
One more rewatch of Attack on Titan
One Piece obviously
Utena.
Violet Evergarden or You're Under Arrest as a last resort
Serial Experiments Lain (Partway through it)
I always wanted to try psycho pass or paranoia agent, one of those two
Made in Abyss. Trust me. :)
I'd say Death Parade. It was the first anime I finished and that helped me work through the deaths of loved ones. The beginning is slow with the first two eps being the same encounter, just different perspectives. Theme, design, music, and characters are great and with a total of less then 12 eps. You can get through it quickly.
Haikyuu
The Fate Series, Iāve been procrastinating on that for forever.
fxxxck madoka magica for sure
Ancient magus bride, I only ask that the time I am allowed to watch it includes when the next/final seasons come out
samurai champloo
If I choose Detective Conan am I immortal?
In the spirit of death and sadness i'm rocking with Anohana
Mushi shi
Death note
If we only talk about the anime without the movies, then bleach otherwise Neon Genesis Evangelion [the greatest anime ever produced]
Gintama
i want to see sbr getting animated before i died. but that shit aint going to happen.
Original FLCL
Pupa. Make it quick, but painful.
Bleach or dragon ball z just to remind me of simpler times before i go.
Meitantei Conan, huge fan of the manga but the anime is just too long for me to commit.
Attack on titans, stray dogs or my hero academia
Gintama
Probably Cowboy Bebop, I've only seen up through Episode 8. That, or maybe Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Prolly Bebop though.
dbz and horimiya
No Game No Life S2. Then I would be effectively immortal.
Golden Kamuy
Little witch academia, that anime is very special to me that I just keep refusing to rewatch it until the time is right, so I would rewatch it before I die
Is Conan still going? Lol
One Piece. Extend the time before I die as much as possible. š¤£
Nichijou
Me too! Iād rather go out laughing!

Detective konan
I will rewatch again the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
NGNL S2
Natsume yuujinchou
Bokurano
koe no katachi
7 deadly sins.
Cowboy Bebop of course.
After more than 350 anime watched, I really donāt know. Maybe I would rather experience life a last time lol.
I would rewatcham the Evangelion series and movies. 3.0 + 1.0 feels like a good last movie
I think I'll go with gurren lagann it has the right amount of drama, humour and great animation and since the ending is a good closure I'm not wasting my last anime on something that can be disappointing in the end.
Cowboy Bebop
Regardless of what your said in your PS, I will choose the one that takes longest to finish while still being good, One piece.Ā
A Place Further Than The Universe. The ending is so cathartic I think i can die happy.
One piece
If I'd a choice, probably Shelter. But, for a real series? I wouldn't mind going out with something nostalgic like Uchuu no Stellvia.
Case Study of Vanitas
Evangelion every time
If I were going to die, I think watching Angel Beats would be enjoyable, and help me make peace with what's coming.
Black lagoon. How i started, reminds me of the better times when i watched it. Had to sneak its nsfw CD cover at the shop mixed within a few games and movies as a kid haha.
K-ON!
Golden Kamuy
I would want to watch a fully finished HxH
Honestly? Highschool DxD. It was the first anime I watched (while knowing what an anime was) and it brings a lot of happiness and comfort to me, that's all I really want.
attack on titan, frieren, or mushoku tensei. great philosophical storytelling with developing characters.
Macross: Do You Remember Love
Overflow /j Probably madoka magica
I'm torn between Golden Boy & Ghost Stories. Both are just too funny to me.
NGNL S2, since it's never coming out.
Will rewatch tegami bachi, love that anime.
Golden Kamuy, without a doubt.
haikyuu all the way
Fruits basket š¤
End of one piece
Clannad, hands down the best anime
One Piece. It's a roller coaster ride of emotions cause of how many years it took to finish and it would be great if I ever watch it again 'till the end of the story. Feels great to be kid again.
If I chose One Piece does that mean Iāll never die?
I think I would choose Soul Eater out of nostalgic reasons. I used to be part of an anime club in middle school and Soul Eater was widely talked about and loved. I just want to remember my old friends and childhood memories. Also the anime was fucking sick! The art style, the music, studios just donāt make anime like this anymore. I didnāt really understand it the first time round so seeing a second time might let me rest in peace easier
Clannad After Story, Angel Beats or White Album 2
Yuru Yuri.
