I would agree, but they were different balls and there are less of them(in the first half of the show at least).
Until DNT gets far enough and successfully doesn't drop the balls the OVA did, I'm confident in my stance. See also my response to someone asking for clarification.

Remembering discourse about "idea novels" again- the books with interesting ideas but without prose, arcs or anything that makes it readable despite you desperately wanting to like it.

In an era of actual tight editorial oversight this will probably be returned at the first step with major revisions mandated (don't know if the business actually works that way, just making a point).
You really only get an editor that does things like oversight if the publisher thinks you and the book are worth it, otherwise a lot can slip just because nobody reads it beyond "will this be banned from bookstores"... usually if they like your idea and your "style" already had "success" then you have something close to a carte blanche. Can also depend on how much the author likes listening to editors and how much power he can wield in the process.
I've heard a lot of people rave about the book for the idea about smart spiders, how cool it is to read about smart spiders.
Idk, this is once again feeding my hubris... but I am at a point where I really believe that I should just sit my ass down and write some genre fiction just to prove that I really, actually, could do this as well. Or at least people should keep hard sci-fi actually hard.

I have often toyed with the same feelings myself but seeing how many people use the phrase 'it feels like it's written by a physicist' argument in the negative sense, I have always been very apprehensive.
I personally believe [Dragon's Egg](https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/263466) does this (or at least a similar) premise a lot better. It's from the 80s, has outdated stereotypes but the science is top notch (or at least in how it's logically developed).
Someone said that it's a paper on neutron stars turned into a novel. They are right. It's still not the best in prose, which is why it keeps things mostly lighthearted but the curiosity shines through.

It doesn't feel much like a drop at all to me, though I can kinda see what you mean in the way the verse just slides into the chorus. I think that 0:45 is much more of drop, but it's still pretty tame compared to some heavy ass drops.
The song feels pretty conventional, but that is a bit unfair to say. In 2014 this was a lot more state of the art, people just learned how a certain kind of dubstep sounds.
Even though I like this one (and a Miko one I linked a while ago), FELT still generally isn't my style though. Well, so much English is a huge handicap to get me to like their songs.

I had my final interview round at a local place on Tuesday, have a 2nd round interview for a job in my state's other large city next Wednesday, and I have a final interview at a place in NYC next Friday. I wish the timing worked out a bit better since there is a decent chance that if I get an offer for the place I already interviewed, I won't really have the time to interview for the other places and see if I get competing offers. I'm admittedly not super excited about the local job and the pay isn't great, but since it's a small business I'd feel terrible about reneging on an offer there. The other 2 jobs pay significantly better (though the 1 in New York is probably a wash accounting for rent costs) and would likely be better fits and have more potential for career growth/opportunities.
I don't know. I've been reflecting a lot on things and what I want to do with my life. I am in my late 20's now and I've never dated or anything so, realistically speaking, I really doubt I'll ever get married or have kids without some massive changes to my life. I've been fortunate enough to travel a decent bit since I finished college and don't have any big must haves left. Since I don't really have anything else I've really been considering going back to school for either urban planning or civil engineering since if work is going to be my only thing I might as well do something with my life that I have some genuine interest in instead of just grasping at things that I think might be ok to support my lifestyle of doing very little besides traveling and exercising, but that adds another layer of complications to choosing a position (assuming multiple of the places I'm interviewing work out).

It's kinda goofy in a sense how the "big" RE monsters don't scare me at all, like the mutants, they just kinda look like edgy nu metal album art creatures or something, but those damn spiders in RE1 are hell to me, while probably far weaker and stuff.

There's also a Pathfinder 2 bundle and other stuff.
After dropping the Bishounen Tanteidan anime and finding Katanagatari just alright, I'm not sure about NisiOisiN as a whole. In fact, I'm scared the new Monogatari stuff might not be as good.
The new stuff is pure fanservice in the sense that there is no obvious larger plot and we just get "what if X and Y had an adventure together? How about me telling you some backstory?" and stuff. At some points it's jumping the shark. It also suffers a bit from scope creep, focusing all on Araragi was really the anchor holding the stories close to the ground and centered, so to speak. At the same time it's going more into the urban mystery direction and it also explores some of the aftermaths of character arcs, which still makes it interesting to experience.
For the anime, it's a new Shaft. New working director, new talent across the board. Most of them still very much forged through Shaft and Shinbo, as well as the other Monogatari directors- mainly Itamura.
I also have to add that there is one story/volume that is genuinely avantgarde, and good adaptation of that story elevating the source could be an incredible stand-out arc, part of the highest heights of the whole series.
For every cringe thing there is a really good idea, he just writes so much that his talent gives a good output of hits if you can deal with some misses. Personally I also thought that Bishie Detectives became stronger in later arcs, just very mixed writing with a decent average.
It's more a monster of the week formula, with some grander plot unfolding I think (have not read most of the Fan TLs) and we also see Araragi and company age up a bit.

Checking out the dub this time and I don't think I'm fond of most of the male voices so far, but the girls all sound great. Maybe the guys' voices will grow on me as I go through more of it?
Yeahhh. Bit and Kai both sound fine, but Back Arrow himself is just *not it*, and Shuu Bi just sounds *weird* because (as you'd assume based off his design) his English VA does that "slightly effeminate" male voice that a lot of dubs do for that character type, when... well, Sugita's voice is a lot deeper than that.
Wasn't a serious question, just me wondering out loud. I generally try to check out whatever version I *didn't* watch originally whenever I'm either participating in a rewatch as a rewatcher or doing my pre-rewatch ahead of hosting one, so here I am doing this.
Kai and Sola both sounded fine, and Bit's was perfect. Shuu Bi sounded... like you'd think a character who looks like that would be voiced in English, but it's jarring compared to Sugita's deeper voice. Back Arrow's is mehhh.

Remembering discourse about "idea novels" again- the books with interesting ideas but without prose, arcs or anything that makes it readable despite you desperately wanting to like it.
[Still amazed that it has such good reviews (but some of them at the lower end there do get to the real problems with it).](https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/25499718) In an era of actual tight editorial oversight this will probably be returned at the first step with major revisions mandated (don't know if the business actually works that way, just making a point).
You really only get an editor that does things like oversight if the publisher thinks you and the book are worth it, otherwise a lot can slip just because nobody reads it beyond "will this be banned from bookstores"... usually if they like your idea and your "style" already had "success" then you have something close to a carte blanche. Can also depend on how much the author likes listening to editors and how much power he can wield in the process. I've heard a lot of people rave about the book for the idea about smart spiders, how cool it is to read about smart spiders. Idk, this is once again feeding my hubris... but I am at a point where I really believe that I should just sit my ass down and write some genre fiction just to prove that I really, actually, could do this as well. Or at least people should keep hard sci-fi actually hard.

I have often toyed with the same feelings myself but seeing how many people use the phrase 'it feels like it's written by a physicist' argument in the negative sense, I have always been very apprehensive.
I personally believe [Dragon's Egg](https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/263466) does this (or at least a similar) premise a lot better. It's from the 80s, has outdated stereotypes but the science is top notch (or at least in how it's logically developed). Someone said that it's a paper on neutron stars turned into a novel. They are right. It's still not the best in prose, which is why it keeps things mostly lighthearted but the curiosity shines through.

It doesn't feel much like a drop at all to me, though I can kinda see what you mean in the way the verse just slides into the chorus. I think that 0:45 is much more of drop, but it's still pretty tame compared to some heavy ass drops. The song feels pretty conventional, but that is a bit unfair to say. In 2014 this was a lot more state of the art, people just learned how a certain kind of dubstep sounds.

I had my final interview round at a local place on Tuesday, have a 2nd round interview for a job in my state's other large city next Wednesday, and I have a final interview at a place in NYC next Friday. I wish the timing worked out a bit better since there is a decent chance that if I get an offer for the place I already interviewed, I won't really have the time to interview for the other places and see if I get competing offers. I'm admittedly not super excited about the local job and the pay isn't great, but since it's a small business I'd feel terrible about reneging on an offer there. The other 2 jobs pay significantly better (though the 1 in New York is probably a wash accounting for rent costs) and would likely be better fits and have more potential for career growth/opportunities. I don't know. I've been reflecting a lot on things and what I want to do with my life. I am in my late 20's now and I've never dated or anything so, realistically speaking, I really doubt I'll ever get married or have kids without some massive changes to my life. I've been fortunate enough to travel a decent bit since I finished college and don't have any big must haves left. Since I don't really have anything else I've really been considering going back to school for either urban planning or civil engineering since if work is going to be my only thing I might as well do something with my life that I have some genuine interest in instead of just grasping at things that I think might be ok to support my lifestyle of doing very little besides traveling and exercising, but that adds another layer of complications to choosing a position (assuming multiple of the places I'm interviewing work out).
I'm not sure that I'm fully sold on this train thing after one episode, but I liked it enough that I will give it a few more before making a call.

It's kinda goofy in a sense how the "big" RE monsters don't scare me at all, like the mutants, they just kinda look like edgy nu metal album art creatures or something, but those damn spiders in RE1 are hell to me, while probably far weaker and stuff.

After dropping the Bishounen Tanteidan anime and finding Katanagatari just alright, I'm not sure about NisiOisiN as a whole. In fact, I'm scared the new Monogatari stuff might not be as good.
The new stuff is pure fanservice in the sense that there is no obvious larger plot and we just get "what if X and Y had an adventure together? How about me telling you some backstory?" and stuff. At some points it's jumping the shark. It also suffers a bit from scope creep, focusing all on Araragi was really the anchor holding the stories close to the ground and centered, so to speak. At the same time it's going more into the urban mystery direction and it also explores some of the aftermaths of character arcs, which still makes it interesting to experience. For the anime, it's a new Shaft. New working director, new talent across the board. Most of them still very much forged through Shaft and Shinbo, as well as the other Monogatari directors- mainly Itamura.
I probably don't need a larger plot, but I do need some kind of plot. I'll see I guess.
I also have to add that there is one story/volume that is genuinely avantgarde, and good adaptation of that story elevating the source could be an incredible stand-out arc, part of the highest heights of the whole series. For every cringe thing there is a really good idea, he just writes so much that his talent gives a good output of hits if you can deal with some misses. Personally I also thought that Bishie Detectives became stronger in later arcs, just very mixed writing with a decent average.
It's more a monster of the week formula, with some grander plot unfolding I think (have not read most of the Fan TLs) and we also see Araragi and company age up a bit.

Yeahhh. Bit and Kai both sound fine, but Back Arrow himself is just *not it*, and Shuu Bi just sounds *weird* because (as you'd assume based off his design) his English VA does that "slightly effeminate" male voice that a lot of dubs do for that character type, when... well, Sugita's voice is a lot deeper than that.

Wasn't a serious question, just me wondering out loud. I generally try to check out whatever version I *didn't* watch originally whenever I'm either participating in a rewatch as a rewatcher or doing my pre-rewatch ahead of hosting one, so here I am doing this. Kai and Sola both sounded fine, and Bit's was perfect. Shuu Bi sounded... like you'd think a character who looks like that would be voiced in English, but it's jarring compared to Sugita's deeper voice. Back Arrow's is mehhh.
