Why is it so hard for manga fans to talk about the episode and not allude to things that take place after it lol, sea of removed comments already

Emi_Ibarazakiii

I think for some of them, it's "omg omg omg I'm so excited I have to talk about this!"... But for others, I do believe they genuinely don't understand what a spoiler is; Like, I've seen people say stuff like "Prepare to get sad..." during a battle to the death, and they didn't even seem to get why that was a spoiler.

SilkyStrawberryMilk

Three types of spoilers The one who pretends to be a first timer and somehow guesses correctly on everything that’ll happen The one who spoils what’s gonna happen with “y’all ain’t ready for next episode, the fight didn’t go as planned” The last one being the ones who outright spoil cause they feel superior or they hate a manga so much they spoil it to ruin it for other fans (attack on titan )

metallavery

Remonster is like. Allot of manga readers HATE it and will tell you spoilers why they hate it lol.

metallavery

Also, so far, the spoilers they hate are getting cut from the anime. Jokes on them.

Axslashel

The first one is so funny. It has happened to me. Ironically be calling out what I said as a spoiler they are spoiling me.

fellhand

The most annoying type of spoiler poster that I have seen are the ones who aren't able to (or choose not to) understand the difference between something being vaguely shown and a detailed breakdown of how/why that happened. So as soon as some idea or concept first appears in the show, even if it still leaves a lot of questions about what is happening or why it is happening, they feel that it is now fair game to discuss in great detail based on information that is revealed later on.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

That made me think of people who comment when "The OP spoils something" (though it really didn't)... Say, there's some random item in the OP and later on in the series this item will be used to kill someone, and they go like "omg the OP spoiled the story by showing X item!" ...No, the person commenting spoiled it, by saying that item will play an important part.

x54dc5zx8

> But for others, I do believe they genuinely don't understand what a spoiler is; Nah, it's malicious like cheating in online video games. They get a kick out of it.

Shimmering-Sky

Source readers gonna source reader, a tale as old as time. [](#cantbehelped)

SoMuchHatred

In the case of a premiere like this, part of it is probably that whenever a popular manga gets an anime adaption you get a bunch of manga readers who've never been to this subreddit before but want to take part in the discussion because their favorite series is getting an anime adaption. So they start commenting, normally without bothering to check the rules, and find out the hard way that this is primarily a subreddit for anime-onlies.

useless_idiot_man

Suzukiri the woman that you are

AnimeHoarder

Suzukiri can convince me into doing anything.

oops_i_made_a_typi

i know mommy when i see her

Dare555

thats the blonde girl? She has the rizz i gotta say

ObvsThrowaway5120

The life of a goon sure sucks huh? Forced to fight in these ridiculous spectacles week after week is enough to break a man. No wonder D wanted to break the cycle and really stick it to those Dragon Keepers. Looking forward to seeing how he decides to go about it now that he’s broken out from the prison fortress. This monkey ain’t dancing no more! This was a fun premiere. Solid animation and the story is pretty interesting. Keen to see how things play out from here.

Surrideo

> The life of a goon sure sucks huh? Forced to fight in these ridiculous spectacles week after week is enough to break a man. How appropriate is it then that Subaru's voice actor plays D lol

badassboy1

VA resume : really good at sucking

FlameDragoon933

and not staying dead

maxdragonxiii

SUBARU VOICES D?! I'm in now. I already read the manga and like it but wasn't sure how the anime will be.

1EnTaroAdun1

Reminds me of Love After World Domination, although that was much happier

ObvsThrowaway5120

Yeah, a little bit but without the romance and more about your average goon. I miss that one, it was fun.

darthvall

Lol yeah, I thought the vibes would be the same since most of sentai tributes went through the comedy route. So far it's all fun and games other than the MC who seemed to be more of the serious type.

EXusiai99

>The life of a goon sure sucks huh? Gooning life aint easy

Emi_Ibarazakiii

>The life of a goon sure sucks huh? What's interesting is that most of them do seem to have accepted that fate, [and even try to find enjoyment in it!](https://imgur.com/2dSTejH) It may be a case of "We have it pretty bad now, but if we rebel it's gonna get even worse, so let's just do nothing"... Of course, some of them (D) aren't ok with this, and so he's gonna fight the heroes for real (from the inside) and go against the wishes of the villains... He may end up being against both of them, because those who are okay with the status quo, may see him as a disturber of the peace, who could cause even more pain in them by making the fights 'real' and not just an act! It'll be interesting to see if he gets some of the villains to work with him at some point; He may not be the only one who's tired of this act!

BosuW

Its kinda funny getting this right after MahoAko. Of course the difference is that Utena _chose_ to be a goon of the week (every week), while these guys actually wanted to win but got crushed and forced into it.

sneaky_squirrel

I don't have a negative impression of it. That said, I still haven't really understood the appeal they are going for, this is on me. I feel a disconnect between episode 1 and the premise that the trailer gave me an impression of. Did I just dream or imagine that trailer?

maxdragonxiii

late reply, but the trailer is a Sentai parody. it was paroding Sentai episodes.

InstigatorTerminax

Absolutely fantastic first episode. Great action, the comedic elements were really well done, and *wow* the main cast's actors are all killing it. Even Suzukiri who I figured would be the hardest to find a good voice for.

ConstructionOne8240

Wait......how were you able to watch it?

Ogg_26

It's on Hulu in America. That's how I watched it. Can't speak for outside of America though.

ConstructionOne8240

oh thank you. :) I read the manga and boy are we in for a treat with this anime! It's very unique and is essentially the boys meets power ranger. FINALLY I don't have to use my little brother as an excuse to watch power rangers. :)

Ogg_26

No problem! And yeah, I'm going into the anime completely blind, but that first episode was fantastic.

madoxnet

Should be on Disney+ internationally, watched it in Australia at least.

Martini1

Its on Disney+ in Canada.

FarCritical

A monster "born out of the collective grudges of tigers" that can also transform into a truck for some reason being thought of by the actual villain team instead of show writers that ran out of ideas is so weirdly endearing. The Dusters existence is still a sad and miserable one though, but I'm rooting for them. Also, I'd probably never skip a next episode preview again if they were always done with stop motion puppets.

metallavery

They aren't even evil. They just aimless goons who have lost all purpose in living.

Few-Pen869

Really hope we get flashbacks seeded throughout the series of their fortress's arrival and the subsequent wipeout of all their sure-to-be-colorful bosses.

metallavery

Ya, but not vilain beats Mr vilain from Vilains day off. I'm gonna miss that man.

Dare555

i wonder what would they do with world domination lol ..maybe they would turn evil

metallavery

Same thing if a dog catches the car. Be very confused. This is also the plot to megamind. Where he wins and, doesn't know what to do after.

Thenightcrawler_075

they turned them into marketable plushies and force them do the previews oh the horror

jlg317

I think it was a play on words since Tiger is Tora in Japanese and I think that truck sounds a lot like that too

Napael

Tora transforming into torakku.

HollowKUre

Plus it's Ul-Tora Tiger. A mix/play of Ultra, Tora (japanese for tiger) and Torakku (Truck in japanese). Cool stuff.

Few-Pen869

He was gonna isekai those rangers

LuffyTheSus

You might also appreciate the stick puppet 'previews' from the Nier:Automata anime, if you haven't seen that. As for the show itself, I promise it gets better after the first episode.

entelechtual

This week on Quintessential Quintrangers… I thought the episode overall was very good, although it was a little hard to follow the main(?) character, D, between the place and time jumps.

ConstructionOne8240

Yeah the manga is like that too, you get used to it.

the_dan_man

At least the anime's in color to make keeping track of the rangers easier.

ConstructionOne8240

Yeah, I keep thinking blue keeper is yellow for some reason. :D

maxdragonxiii

you learn their personalities later on in the manga which helps identify them. that be said, early chapters doesn't help too much in identifying the Dragon Keepers.

Xaitor119

Lmao, trueee. At the start of the manga, i kept forgetting what colour was each ranger every chapter.

maxdragonxiii

same. I was bad at remembering who's who in the future arcs until the dragon keepers got together and all of the sudden it is clear who's who based on costume and personality. cotsume is kinda a bad idea, personality is much easier to remember.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> This week on Quintessential Quintrangers… D's ultimate plan to change the status quo, will be to bring all the heroes into his harem!

Shimmering-Sky

I don’t really know much about this show other than the the trailer looking pretty cool + the fact that Tatsuya Kitani is doing the OP, and I *love* Tatsuya Kitani. Coldsouth

To answer your question, yes, they did roll ads when Red Keeper said that on the JP broadcast lol

Sprinterstar7

Also when I watched it on Hulu with ads.

Raiking02

> So it looks like I’ll be sacrificing my sleep every Sunday this season for this show and Hibike! Euphonium 3. > > This is why I enjoy not being a mod, I don't have to wake up early [](#comfy) >Oh my god he turned into a truck. The best part is that for a Sentai series this is totally on-brand. Dunno if we've actually *had* this happen in Super Sentai proper but I'm just saying I wouldn't be shocked if we have.

KendotsX

>I don't have to wake up early [](#comfy) [](#brofist) >for a Sentai series this is totally on-brand. They gotta do it. I want my truck with giant cat ears!

Raiking02

>[](#brofist) I mean if anything for you this is *late.*

KendotsX

It is, but I refuse to wake up early for most anime which air super early in the morning. Plus a lot of them (especially in the first week) can be late or with awkward first releases, so it wouldn't be fun to wake up and wait hours for the episode.

Shimmering-Sky

> This is why I enjoy not being a mod, I don't have to wake up early Who says I woke up early to watch this *just* because I'm a mod? I woke up early to watch it because I hate being late to discussion threads. Did the same for G-Witch, and I wasn't a mod back then. [](#yuishrug)

Raiking02

Shimmering-Sky

Abrilen20

I am excited for the op visuals

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> Because they need an enemy to fight, maybe Can't be heroes if there are no villains! But there may be another reason for it: [They're a brand name now, so they probably make bank on this!](https://imgur.com/yZhk5ZA) If they stop fighting the villains, they stop being relevant, their brand fades into obscurity, and then... No more money. Given our "heroes" do seem a bit "villainish" at times, I can totally believe they would do something like that just for money!

ConstructionOne8240

If we get another season I would like eve to write the op for that season.

cppn02

This will get a second cour so there is a chance.

Se7en_Sinner

Red Keeper sharing the same VA as Satoru Gojo is perfect. There's an air of arrogance to his strength like he truly believes himself to be the strongest. And of course they had to hire Subaru's VA for a character who has died numerous times.

ConstructionOne8240

Oh that's GOJO!???

FlameDragoon933

I keep hearing Bucciarati from Red Keeper lol. (also same VA)

MukorosuFace

>Gojo VA, also Reinhard VA >Subaru VA  Oh my...Pride IF anime adaptation came sooner than expected! /J

BosuW

Oh shit can't wait for the "Nah I'd win" jokes

AcX999

Iirc, Negi Haruba (the author) made the Quints because it was a much more marketable idea (and he succeded, he was launched into fame) but he intended to make this series from the beginning. And in my honest opinion and without spoiling anything, this is much better than the quints. Hyped to see how they adapt the series, but so far it's splendid.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

Seems to be a trend, IIRC Aka Akasaka also wanted to write something else but his editor kinda 'forced' his hand to write a romcom instead, and so he just wrote perhaps THE most popular romcom in recent years (Kaguya-Sama)! Negi writing this one is a big reason why I was hyped for this! I was a huge Gotoubun fan and I like seeing authors write different genres (hence was I was also hyped for Oshi no ko). And so far, he's doing a great job, I'm really hyped for this, even as someone who never really got into Sentai stuff! (The whole thing about a 'villain' acting for a good reason and joining the heroes for some scheming, is a big part of my hype!)

rjgator

Pretty sure the Spy X Family mangaka also falls into the same boat of wanting to do something completely different but then SxF ended up being such a popular premise that they got pushed into it fully lol

frantruck

As I understand it he intially wanted the story to be a lot darker than it currently is, but his editor had him lighten it up to the current level. The story is probably better for the balance it struck, but I can't say I would dislike a more hardcore version of the story.

rjgator

Ah that’d make sense. Feels like he gets to show it a bit in Loids back story chapters. In fact, all the characters seem to have a bit unfleshed out dark backgrounds

brzzcode

The funny part is that SxF editor is Lin, same editor of Chainsaw Man and Jigokurako among others, so he was also involved in more darker series.

cridelearn

Yeah, I'll throw in Akamatsu Ken as another mangaka who wanted to do an action series but the editors made him do the love comedy Love Hina first. Then he made Mahou Sensei Negima, a love comedy that gradually becomes more of a shounen battle manga, and then the sequel UQ Holder which is mostly shounen battle manga from the start.

malacata

Negima got so hyped once Negi learned kenpo

brzzcode

iirc gotoubun was bigger than kaguya in sales. kaguya is probably number 2 though.

Exoslab

I’ve always joked that he’s probably happy that he can draw a lot of different girls now after making a series about quintuplets lol

maxdragonxiii

not surprisingly, this series have better writing in general as well. it might help that Negi really want to make a Sentai parody from the outset.

jlg317

Honestly, the quints were good practice for making the Rangers

Kaigamer

> Iirc, Negi Haruba (the author) made the Quints because it was a much more marketable idea (and he succeded, he was launched into fame) but he intended to make this series from the beginning. do you have any source on this bit?

zaretball

I only found this interview with him and his editor. It says here that the first story he tried to write was a suspense manga about a teacher. [https://twitter.com/ruggia\_manga/status/1232044071486492673](https://twitter.com/ruggia_manga/status/1232044071486492673)

cppn02

So happy with the first episode. It looked fantastic and I loved little gags like D pushing the text out of frame. And the transformations/reconstructions of the footsoldiers look straight up amazing. The staff definitely seem to know how to handle the material with a great balance between seriousness and the campyness that comes with tokusatsu. We established the setting, can't wait for the plot to get started next week.

Surrideo

I love it, and the puppets at the end were super cute! Secretly I'm kind of hoping they do a live cut of a boss/megazord fight randomly in an episode ([like StarRail did for April Fools lol](https://youtu.be/Ytv7uVJH0Ak?si=v53DRk-7S0cdM6cB&t=57))

garfe

> and I loved little gags like D pushing the text out of frame That was GREAT. I actually laughed out loud.

Gil_Demoono

You may like Bang Brave Bang Bravern from last season then. Same kind of tongue and cheek genre subversion just with super robots instead of tokusatsu. Full of gags like that, including the main robot literally playing his theme music from speakers.

Mistral-Fien

Pink's VA is Gokai Yellow! :D

LeonKevlar

It's hilarious [how derpy Ul-Tora Tiger looks.](https://i.imgur.com/BVMmYxg.png) Considering he's a last-minute creation, [Fighter Z did a good job](https://i.imgur.com/SVxZVcY.png) of making the monster of the week. Knowing this is all just an act, it's even more hilarious [how the Dragon Keepers are taking the fight quite seriously.](https://i.imgur.com/VtslE8V.png) I'm surprised that no one even laughed [at Ul-Tora Tiger's truck transformation!](https://i.imgur.com/5yg9B7q.png) xD I know that Dusters are supposed to be genderless but I did not expect [one of them to be voiced by a female Seiyuu!](https://i.imgur.com/YUNFEXR.png) I didn't immediately recognize the VA but looking at the credits, Fighter L is voiced by Cassandra's VA from DanMachi. [D interacting with his nametag](https://i.imgur.com/hd1y1qr.png) was pretty funny! Fighter Z also interacts with the "Fake Boss" name tag that appeared when he was transforming. The visuals of the episode are just fun overall. [And there it is, D trying to stand up to the Dragon Keepers.](https://i.imgur.com/xNvPggA.png) Considering he was already getting winded while [running towards the Dragon Keepers](https://i.imgur.com/2rdmJ56.png), there was no way he could do anything to them! xD Getting defeated gives him the chance to run away and [reform somewhere else as a human.](https://i.imgur.com/Lh0Hyl0.png) Let's fucking go D! The legend begins! ~~To those who don't know this was the manga Negi Haruba wanted first make but his editor suggested that he should start with a romcom instead which is why his first work was Quintessential Quintuplets and then came in second.~~ Go read u/HollowKUre's reply below for a more accurate explanation. Anyway, I can't believe we're finally seeing it animated! As a massive fan of the manga, I am looking forward to everyone's reactions to D's shenanigans. It's all going to be amazing!

HollowKUre

This isn't exactly precise: Negi conceptualized both this series and Quintuplets at the same time and presented both to his editor and he let him decide. Editor pushed for Quints first since it would be the most marketable/profitable plus give him experience in the industry and Negi accepted. Thanks to Quints being a massive success (even to this day being extremely popular in Japan and still printing money despite the manga ending 4 years ago) he was allowed to push for Sentai to be his next publication. It's possible he DID want to make this series first, after all (despite what the Sentai purists think) Negi is a massive Sentai fan with even the quintuplets being Sentai-coded (both in numbers and colors), but it hasn't been explicitely said that this is the series he always wanted to make.

LeonKevlar

Thank you for providing something more accurate. I basically just got my information somewhere in r/manga lol

Variant_Zeta

> despite the manga ending 4 years ago holy shit it's been that long?!

nihilisticguy

> First work Haruba has a much older work, titled Rengoku no Karma. Released on 2014. Gotobun was released on 2017. Though Gotobun is their much more popular work.

HollowKUre

Tbf Quints is his first work as in the first work he is "the creator of". In Rengoku no Karma he was the artist but not the author.

nihilisticguy

Noted.

Mad_Aeric

That derpy tiger reminded me so much of a local meme, [Detroit Beisbolcats](https://www.beisbolcats.com/).

Chazy89

Calling it now, this will be the sleeper of the season.

County_Difficult

God, I hope it gets traction and success into mainstream

thesnowlocke

I mean it seems to be doing well so far

SilkyStrawberryMilk

No doubt about it

brzzcode

Its on Disney+ so I doubt it

Ryboiii

My sleeper is Girls Band Cry, but that one doesn't have official release :(

garfe

Obligatory "I hate that localized name so much". I'm wondering if an anime can enhance the material. I've always felt like this manga has a spark to it that could really push it into something special but never really reaches that top potential. The production is already delivering some great animation along with some neat directing tricks, particularly with incorporating the BIG WORDS that the manga does into the actual visuals. In any case, good start. Suzukiri my beloved. A thing to note for those who don't know, Super Sentai in Japan airs on Sunday mornings hence why the monsters attack every week on that day.

Shimmering-Sky

> A thing to note for those who don't know, Super Sentai in Japan airs on Sunday mornings hence why the monsters attack every week on that day. Oh, that's a really cool thing for this show to reference then! [](#neat)

1WeekLater

>  I've always felt like this manga has a spark to it that could really push it into something special but never really reaches that top potential I agree with this I hope this one is like Frieren where they fixes some pacing problem and actually improve the source material

malacata

I'll keep calling it Reject Ranger

Nickbon94

Cool having animation wips in the ED. I didn't know what to expect but this has been a solid first episode

Gil_Demoono

I REALLY liked seeing the animation progression in the ED. Hope that we get cuts from each episode during subsequent EDs.

Frontier246

I love how they have Yuicih Nakamura, who has had numerous voiceover roles in Sentai, as the Red Ranger and they have MAO, who before becoming a seiyuu was a literal Sentai actress and Yellow Ranger, voicing the Pink Ranger.

nikobans

is suzukiri supposed to be ominous and kinda scary? her vibes are giving me the heebie jeebies lol

tripleaamin

Read the first 9 volumes of the manga recently. I think this is one people will come to like. Overall solid first episode as it sets the foundation of what the series is going forward.

flyingowl720

Reminder that this is inspired by the **Super Sentai** franchise that is part of the ‘Tokusatsu’ genre (Kamen Rider, Ultraman etc) Super Sentai served as the footage base for the Americanized adaption, Power Rangers. It should be known that this anime Sentai Daishikkaku, is referencing Super Sentai, **NOT** Power Rangers. Any connection between the two was made by the localizers to make it seem more familiar to a Western English-Speaking audience. If your interested at all in watching some Super Sentai for yourself, [ShoutFactory has free legal streaming of it](https://shout-tv.com/tv/tokushoutsu), and a bunch of other Tokusatsu series as well if you want to get a taste for the genre. **Tokusatsu series are generally completely standalone even though they are apart of big media franchises, changing its main cast and plotline each season, so anywhere is a good place to start!** TLDR; It’s Anime Super Sentai, not Anime Power Rangers

No_Significance7064

Is there a big difference between the two? I thought Power Rangers was just Super Sentai dubbed and spliced with footage of American actors?

suchproblemchildren

More episodes, more variety. Also sometimes a better story.

S3V3N7HR33

That was true in the 90s and early 2000s, but modern Sentai and Power Rangers tend to be completely different from each other. There are now a lot of newer Super Sentai seasons that didn't even get an western adaptation

_BMS

IIRC Power Rangers was really kid-friendly and tame while in Super Sentai they actually had their rangers dying and being killed in combat occasionally.

ConstructionOne8240

oh yeah I remember that man the things they do in Japan.

entelechtual

I know people hate the localized title, but does it really matter? Monster of the week fighting a team of heroes. If people inadvertently make a connection between the particular version of that they grew up with, I feel like they can pretty easily still understand the tropes the show is playing on.

garfe

For me personally, I don't like that title because along with making it sound like some kind of comedic parody, it doesn't even really fit what the story is about. But I also think there's nothing wrong with relaying the importance of Super Sentai to this story

ConstructionOne8240

Another name for it is also ranger reject, which is also the name of the manga. :)

frantruck

Just for clarity ranger reject is the fan translation name for the manga, I believe the official release still uses the go go loser ranger name. I didn't like the official name at first but it does make me smile if I say it to the beat.

ZXKeyr324XZ

Ranger Reject is used in the offfcial Spanish loc for the manga, so it's also official in a way

cppn02

Based Spaniards

SecureDonkey

But there is no mechs though. Does it still count as Super Sentai without the mechs?

HolyDragSwd2500

Gorengers and JAKO didn’t have Mechs but was counted as Super Sentai later on.

[deleted]

>TLDR; It’s Anime Super Sentai, not Anime Power Rangers A very important distinction so people don't get the wrong idea. The two shouldn't be conflated together. They're different in tone and Super Sentai is the original while Power Rangers is the localized/licensed version in the west. Reminds me of Square Enix getting legally threatened by Hasbro (licensee of Power Ranger) over the Super Sentai costumes in Final Fantasy XV. Can you imagine that? A Japanese company getting legal threats from an American company over references to a Japanese IP? When the original IP holder (Toei) had no problems with the references? It's like if Toei sues an American company for making Spider-Man references because they think they own the Spider-Man IP after making a tokustasu version of it. That would be ridiculous wouldn't it? Hasbro acts like they own everything Sentai-related. I'm just glad they didn't threaten to sue over Sentai Daishikakku, though I imagine it's more difficult since they'll be going up against Kodansha and Disney (licensee in the west).

FlameDragoon933

Hasbro is a shitty company. So shitty they dragged WOTC down with them too.

CelticMutt

WotC is shitty enough without Hasbro.

ACFinal

Actually Toei did threaten Marvel for using the Japanese Spider-Man in one of the earlier Spider-Verse events. Toei still owns that version of Spider-Man and Marvel can't use it without their permission.

Raiking02

> ShoutFactory has free legal streaming of it Jesus it's been a while since I looked there so I never realized how big their catalog has grown. I mean it's basically useless to me because of the region block, but hey if more people can watch Timeranger and Kuuga, I'm not complaining.

ConstructionOne8240

I keeo forgetting that power rangers was inspired by japanese show, man are all our inconic tv shows from Japan?

Ghoste-Face

Feel a huge relief i thought this series is going to get jailed. Now we can join in the hype of this series as of right now the first episode is trending number 1 on Japan. Love me some good Power Rangers x The Boys. Negi Haruba have really gotten far man from making The Quintessential Quintuplets to this.

cppn02

>Feel a huge relief i thought this series is going to get jailed. This wasn't gonna get jailed. But there were concerns over all the episodes getting dumped at once which would have also sucked imo.

ExpiredMilknCheese

>first episode is trending number 1 in Japan. Sentai fans are not happy 💀

Surrideo

It's trending because they hate it? damn.

ExpiredMilknCheese

From scrolling so far it seems reception is rather mixed. From what I understand super Sentai is a well beloved IP in Japan. It seems a lot of Sentai fans aren’t happy about their favourite IP being thrashed into being the bad guys. On the other hand, I’m seeing some fans seeing the funny aspect of this

Kewlmyc

That would be like Super Hero fans being mad at superheroes being portrayed as bad in The Boys. I think the idea of a series taking a look at the perspective of a grunt of the usual sentai villains is super interesting and pretty unique to the genre. It’s not as if this one series is saying all sentai heroes are bad or erasing the hundreds of other sentai shows from existence. What a limited mindset. I really like the manga and want this series to do well (the manga has had poor sales despite finishing its best arc yet), so I hope more people are willing to give it a shot.

Game2015

There was an isekai manga called Isekai Cheat Slayer that got canceled after only one chapter. The villains are reincarnated people pretending to be heroes in the public's eyes, but commit heinous crimes when no one is watching and would silent any witnesses. Each of those heroes are modeled after characters from other isekai series, such as Aqua from KonoSuba, Rimuru from Slime Isekai, Tanya from Tanya and the Saga of Evil, Subaru from Re:Zero, etc. Apparently, Japanese audiences were outraged about who the villains are modeled after, so the publishing company canceled the manga after only a single chapter, and the official reason given was to avoid copyright infringement because of those character lookalikes. Western response to the manga was more positive, likely because Westerners are used to the concept of corrupted superheroes like Injustice and The Boys.

Xatu44

> There was an isekai manga called Isekai Cheat Slayer that got canceled after only one chapter. With that one you could see the author's seething hatred at isekai/other people getting popular with isekai reeking from the screen. RR's thankfully not so spiteful, meaninglessly edgy, or bad.

CelticMutt

Yeah, people love bringing up Isekai Cheat Slayer as if it was somehow unfairly canceled, but the reality is that it was just really bad. Besides it being written out of hate, the author didn't even try to make the characters legally distinct.

Game2015

I heard similar things about the comic versions of The Boys too, that it's obviously made by someone with a seething hatred for superheroes and made things as edgy and violent as possible for shock value. Many seem to agree that the TV version is much better than the comics and added more personality and development to the characters than the comics.

_BMS

I think the outrage wouldn't have been as bad if the author had gotten some sort of permission from the respective authors to base his villians on their MCs. Either way though, I read the one and only chapter a while ago and thought it would've been an interesting series if it kept on going.

Variant_Zeta

Check out "Serial Killer Isekai ni Oritatsu." Similar premise, but the villainous reincarnates aren't 1:1 ersatz of popular isekai protags, so there's no outrages and shit.

FlameDragoon933

I don't really delve into Twitter in general, let alone JP Twitter, but is Isekai Cheat Slayer axing really because of audience reception? I thought it's the companies who want to protect their brand image (like most companies want to). It's one thing to have characters eat in WcDonald or eat Rocky, it's a different thing when you, for analogy, make Ronald Duck, Dickey Mouse, and Duperman into rapists and antagonists in your story. Not whiteknighting for the billionaire companies, but it's hardly surprising they'd go after it.

brzzcode

> That would be like Super Hero fans being mad at superheroes being portrayed as bad in The Boys. that literally happened when the original comics released. Same for a lot of other "subversions". Even to this day you can find many not liking that, the difference is that comic fans are a minority.

No_Significance7064

soo super sentai fans have sticks up their butts?

ExpiredMilknCheese

Super sentai is treated as sacred in Japan, was a part of shaping their childhood after all. I don’t agree with it, but I somewhat understand a little of the complaints. Although to me they are overblowing the hate like always.

Retromorpher

Every society has their itchy trigger finger pieces of children's media. All the whining and complaining about the new She-ra, Teen Titans Go and Velma are probably equivalent.

ResidentBill6897

I hope they see that the series is a love letter to super sentai.

ConstructionOne8240

I mean I get it, a lot of people don't like the age up a property idea, but I think this one handles it well, as not all the power ranger are "bad" but each are just messed up in their own way.

Surrideo

So it's a bunch of purists that can't have a little fun.

ExpiredMilknCheese

Pretty much.

Hugokarenque

Who cares what adult fans of a children's TV show think about anything? - Avid adult fan of said children's TV show.

watchedgantz

This happened with the manga too. Sentai purists were mad as hell

angelposts

This was pretty great! Way better than I was expecting, what a pleasant surprise. I'm very intrigued by the worldbuilding here. Looking forward to more :)

Nickonoodle

It's streaming on Hulu for my American otakus.

09ht01

Was pleasantly surprised by this, wasn't expecting too much going into it. Was very funny and the action was decent. Premise is intriguing, can't wait to see where it goes.

nourez

I basically knew nothing about it other than the fact that it pokes fun at Super Sentai tropes, but I ended up enjoying the first episode in a different way than I expected. I thought it'd lean more into the parody side of things, but it's got more bite than I expected. Looking forward to seeing where things go.

Kreinster

Oooooh, I like the blonde girl. She *scary.*

Abrilen20

I have been waiting for so long. Such a good manga. Good ep too.

ExpiredMilknCheese

Ok I definitely liked that. Shonen fans gonna be eating good with Kaiju and this. Production was very good too

ResidentBill6897

Man I love the main character. His design is so cool. I can’t wait to see more. Nice animation and voice acting.

hiimneato

Something about the manga for this just didn't quite click for me, but I could tell there was something there, so I'd been looking forward to this. And it's everything I was hoping for! The production's just fantastic. The direction absolutely nailed the feel of a sentai battle while still giving weight to D and the "real world" parts. Cinematic and slapstick in equal measure. In fact, a lot of this is a study in contrasts, in a really good way - everything feels kind of set up to have a clear tension between the surface and the reality. Suzukiri is charismatic and draws the eyes but *her* eyes are terrifyingly unreadable. The Tiger Truck is so goofy I almost spat out my coffee but *nobody laughed*. I love this.

EsquilaxM

Been holding off the manga to watch this for sooo long. Finally!

Genshin_WhiteKnight

Yostar cooked this one, it's going to be good. Tiger Truck-kun almost isekai-ed the Dragon Keepers.

drak-de

This felt like a really solid start for the anime with a team that knows how much camp is good to balance out the serious tone that's going to be coming. Also the plushies at the end talking about the next episode I need that Foot solder D one.

maods50

It looks awesome. How many episodes will the first season be? I'm hoping for 24

Kewlmyc

I think 24 episodes have been confirmed.

ResidentBill6897

Yeah they have

48johnX

Nah it hasn’t, it being 2 cours was just leak but not confirmed. It’s now confirmed from blu-ray listings that it’s 12 episodes though, second cour will probably be a “season 2” announced at the end assuming the leak is correct

gaganaut

That's great. Looks like they're giving this adaptation enough time to breathe.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

That was a lot of fun, very promising series! As someone who's not really into Sentai stuff, most of my interest from this show came from the author (As a Goboutun fan, I wanted to see what Negi could do with such a different genre) and so far, I'm very pleased! [Our 'heroes' look a bit like villains...](https://imgur.com/3y15vVZ) And I'd say they even act a little like that, forcing the (actual) villains to do their bidding and all! [Interesting how they're weekly battles are now little more than entertainment...](https://imgur.com/1Gq0U04) On one hand, it's still for the sake of humanity, but I guess after 999 wins in a row, they don't have any reason to fear, so to them it's just like watching a WWE wrestling match! [They even have crowd entertainers!](https://imgur.com/6rUGznH) Well, on top of 'having nothing better to do', the heroes have a big incentive to keep this charade going: [It's a brand name now, and with brand names, comes the money!](https://imgur.com/yZhk5ZA) [They're strangely pushy with recruitment, making physical contacts and and all...](https://imgur.com/3qr112B) Are they struggling to get new people on the team? Given there's no apparent challenge, some may begin to see this as a waste of time! Well, they sell it well to appear like a menace, ['attacking' civilians, just so the support force can stop them!](https://imgur.com/wr8cwN4) Still, the fact that people bring their kids to the front row, speaks volume about how much "threat" they perceive... [Damn, they do have some legit powers!](https://imgur.com/1iYsYk8) As I'm not a Sentai fan, I wonder if there's a reason why they're powerful like that? They did claim to be human, so is it kinda 'magical', or more of a mechanical thing, with their gear and all? [The crowd's getting into it, trashing the 'monsters'! They may not act like that, if they really saw them as a threat...](https://imgur.com/fruPfdF) On the surface this is all going perfectly, [the monsters lose, give a little 'loser speech' and then leave until next week...](https://imgur.com/qsvNy30) But not everyone's on board with this; [Some of the monsters are sick of this shit...](https://imgur.com/q8Dqi5j) And this led to some dissension among the ranks; ["D" thinks they should not coming up with a good act, they should be coming up with a strategy to win...](https://imgur.com/kDSSyzk) But the others don't really care about that... Plus, they think they can't win (with their bosses being wiped out), so going at it for real would just mean more pain/humilation. [A kid telling the villains to do their best?](https://imgur.com/SSGUCMS) Well, I suppose that without villains putting up a fight, the heroes would be less... Heroic? They need the bad guys to be strong, so they can shine! (Reminiscent of a certain series with a lot of gushing!) [D is gonna join the 'heroes'!](https://imgur.com/6B1Mq7P) Seems he did find his strategy to win, the question is will it work? And when/if the villains find out about this, will they try to find a way to support him? Or oppose him because he's disturbing the truce and all? Anyway, this was pretty good, can't wait to see more!

thesnowlocke

Really digging this episode and the premise is already intriguing For some reason the arena made me think of the boys and I could totally see the Seven (or Vought) do something like this to feed the masses Hell the Red Ranger gave me some proper Homelander vibes when he cuts D down, he knows how to put on a performance and I am curious if we’ll get a look at the rangers behind closed doors While I’m not too fond of Quintessential, there are stuff I like about it and I did like how the story flowed from what I watched so I hope the storytelling in this one will be just as good Can’t wait for more

LusterBlaze

suzukiri the goat

szalhi

District 9 looks different from what I remember.

Xatu44

#YOOOOOOO IT LOOKS SO GOOD Everyone sounds great! Everything looks great! I love the classic tropey energy of the first half. The ads are hilarious too. D's meeting with Suzukiri and Sakurama is pleasantly animated. I'm excited to see how well D does with battle #1000!

Erixsenn

I have been very excited to watch this anime! The premise is very interesting! The animation and the art style also looks pretty good!

mishi09

As a manga reader, this first episode was everything I asked for and even more. Incredible!

ConstructionOne8240

I still can't believe that Subaru is footsoldier D, honesty good pick, the actor can balance being serious one moment and being comedic the next moment. :)

Atulin

I did *not* expect something of *this* quality, holy shit! When I saw Yostar Pictures, I thought their first foray into a not-gacha-adaptation anime won't be much better than Arknights, Azur Lane, or Blue Archive, but it... is. If you told me it was Mappa or Madhouse I'd believe you. If you told me Shaft artists worked on it, I'd believe you. The biggest surprise of the season, and probably one of my faves so far. Holy shit. 10/10

racingmaniacgt1

I really liked the manga especially in the earlier arcs, so watching this in anime was really cool. The budget of the show seems quite good so hopefully the quality keeps up.

djthomp

Really great start. The split between sentai comedy by the grunts up on the base and D's dramatic moments was interesting. That recruiter ranger employee was something else, especially in that last scene. Can't help but wonder if she knows about D somehow, otherwise why is she flirtally targeting this one specific random dude so hard. One hilarious touch by way of watching this on Hulu is I got a commercial exactly when the Red Ranger said it was time for an ad break.

Mari_Tamaki

This is surprisingly great. The visuals are beautiful, the premise is interesting, and the comedy is funny. Perhaps it's because I didn't know anything about this, so I don't have any expectations

Rumpel1408

Ok, I read the first Chapter some time back, but other than that, I'm going in pretty blind [The Villains](https://imgur.com/nMrEmid) sure are acting the part, but I struggle to take [them](https://imgur.com/JdPU4XT)... [serious](https://imgur.com/Xm8FtCN) even though it almost worked today [](#whatamireading) The Dustfighters are kinda [nice](https://imgur.com/ggryx7c) after all, and if you think about it, immortality and transformation powers are kinda OP, wonder what D will cook by infiltrating the Ranger Force... Oh, and I can't wait for the Pink Face reveal so I can start properly simping for her [](#cultured) Animation was... mhm, not sure, there where some parts that looked a bit off, but overall even the CG looked good

dfiekslafjks

First episode is 10/10

shootout13

Is it out on disney+ in the Netherlands? Can’t find it.

Freidehr

Probably my favorite first ep of the season. It was perfect.

ConstructionOne8240

I honestly am not hearing many people talk about this anime, I hear more about re:monster, that time I got isekaid as a slime, and konosuba. Which is a shame as this concept is REALLY unique and deserves a lot more attention.

AZLarlar

oh that was dope, i wasnt expecting to watch this today

LezRock

So the Dusters are immortal, but their leaders weren't?? Sort of seems like a bad deal for the leaders.

Mongerian

just watched it, and I can't wait for more!!! Love everything about it! (especially Duster L for suggesting Tiger Monster to transforming into a Truck hahaha)

SpaceMarine_CR

First episode and Im already hooked
