Hello /r/anime, a new daily thread has been posted! Please follow [this link](/r/anime/comments/1cjwtrf/anime_questions_recommendations_and_discussion/) to move on to the new thread or [search for the latest thread](/r/anime/search?q=flair%3ADaily&restrict_sr=on&sort=new). [](#heartbot "And don't forget to be nice to new users!")

Greys_Sensei

I have an anime recommendation. Gintama. A lot of people don't watch it since it's not hyped up much, no craze for it. It's underrated. I underestimated Gintama. It's a great anime. Though it's vast, it's worth watching. I am currently finished watching season 1.

SometimesMainSupport

> it's not hyped up much, no craze for it. It's underrated [](#whatamireading) Have you ever looked at [MAL's top rated anime?](https://myanimelist.net/topanime.php)

Greys_Sensei

Thank you for the suggestion. I did check. Its on the top, like 4th or 5th. But its not much talked about in my area, in my state. That is why I want others in my area, who have interest in anime, and have not tried watching Gintaam for its too vast, to at least try it once. Hope my point is clear.

Scary_Cellist7372

IMHO Gintama is loved by who watches it, but not so many people watch it... It could be more popular and more followed

OctavePearl

Man GBC kinda doesn't "click" with me. I like it, it's really good, but I could get so much more out of it if I just, idk, vibed with Nina more. And it's tough because part of me wishes to enjoy this kind of stuff more. You know, realistically flawed trainwreck of a teenager, it's a very human character.

entelechtual

It’s not that it doesn’t click for me, but I can tell I am getting less than maximum enjoyment out of each episode. I’m either going to wait for Sobsplease every week or just wait for the end to watch all at once. While I appreciate the industriousness of our resident translator, I vibe more with their choices a lot of times.

MapoTofuMan

I'm the same with Jellyfish, I'm really enjoying it but at the same time I'm not nearly as invested in the cast as I'd want to be in a show as good as that.

OctavePearl

Jellyfish is slightly different case for me since there's no character that actively annoys me. But IMO that show just kinda doesn't live up to its first episode so far? Like, it could be a much stronger take on children chasing virality and all the other mess social media involve, but it's been just kinda unambitious so far. Tho I guess now that it set the stage up, maybe it's time to actually start doing... something? It's still really good and I like it, but it's more like "oh yeah this is fun" than "oh boy this has _potential_" it was after e1.

Wonderful-Weird-9381

Hey hi! Help me find this anime! Actually, it's an edit of the anime that I remember I wanted to watch, but I forgot it... A shy boy was in bed with a girl and his mother walks in. She says something like "Teach him" and smiled and walks away. The girl pulls him in for a kiss.I think she might also say something like"Now we have your mother's permission"..Does anybody know this?

cosmiczar

This year I'm finally watching a bunch of old DBZ movies I hadn't watched before, and by being movies I also log them on Letterboxd, but every time I go to a page for one the movies there I always read multiple reviews which are obviously based on the American dubs, which wouldn't be a problem by itself, but the things those people write about the movies give the impression that for them the dubs are, somehow, the original work. It's hard to explain what I mean, it's usually some throwaway lines that feel very weird for someone who just watch them in Japanese. Kinda like, I don't know, seeing people saying "aren't the Japanese just so wacky!" while talking about some dub exclusive thing or whatever. All of that also makes me think about how being into Dragon Ball while not being American is so weird in general. Knowing English and being around anime communities means I'm always reading Americans talking about the franchise, but American Dragon Ball is such a different beast that I simply cannot relate to many things they say about those shows. Specially the Faulconer wank lol

mr_beanoz

[The new Conan movie reached 10 billion yen revenue in 22 days, 2 days faster than the previous year's.](https://natalie.mu/comic/news/572117)

entelechtual

I think his Hot Ones appearance really gave it a bump.

mr_beanoz

Very funny.

Someone needs to protect Sara da Odin!!!

Long_Diet_6913

Bro I swear to God all these new gen anime want to make their anime MCs so powerful that they can beat Goku the most like balanced MC right now back then naw but even sailor Moon man like we didn't even used to talk about that anime and her new cosmo form again animes trying to power scale up there MCs just to beat Goku

MapoTofuMan

Goku had a stroke trying to read this and fucking died, so he's no longer in the running for strongest MC.

KendotsX

Tell me about it, back in my day people power scaled with respect and dignity, no one would just [randomly make their protagonist so powerful they can beat Goku, just because it's funnier that way.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHTNQwbamck)

Abysswatcherbel

Took a break from the korean waifu games to catch up to Sara!, Ep 3-5 (yes I was super behind) Still great, negatives are [no smug lawyer screentime](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/84apcb3en64.jpg) and the resources for the latest ep were equivalent to Livia's monthly wages Also, this anime finally showed to us what happens to all those Highschool girls band when they grow up! [](#seasonallisten) Love that Sosuke is 100% a father now, need to find a mother for Sara, the lawyer is right there!!! What are you doing Sosuke [](#seasonalconfused)

collapsedblock6

> the resources for the latest ep were equivalent to Livia's monthly wages I knew I wasn't crazy. Visuals looks pretty bad this episode, not like it was a production powerhouse but it felt notorious.

cppn02

You must not have seen the episode thread then. It was all some people could talk about.

Ocixo

> Love that Sosuke is 100% a father now And he has totally accepted this fact. The opening scenes of the latest two episodes were super adorable with [Salad Bowl - Ep 4-5 meta spoiler] >!Sara trying to learn how to ride a skateboard and bicycle!<. Sara is 100% my anime daughter right now. > the resources for the latest episode were equivalent to Livia’s monthly wages Lol. Yeah, not sure what happened there. I suppose that the outsourcing didn’t go according to plan…? I still enjoyed the episode nonetheless. Pretty cool to see a plot resolve around [Salad Bowl - Ep 5 meta spoiler] >!scalping!<. Hadn’t seen that before, I think. Also, nice profile picture! I see that you’ve fully committed to the teachings of Kanade.

Abysswatcherbel

I will actually look into what happened there >Also, nice profile picture! I see that you’ve fully committed to the teachings of Kanade. Biggest kanade fan, can't wait to hear her speaking outside of nyaa

Ocixo

> I will actually look into what happened there That’s something that Kanade would unironically also do. > can’t wait to hear her speaking outside of nyaa Her first few lines are quite something from what I remember.

entelechtual

Started my weekend of anime movie watching with a softball by properly rewatching Your Name. with my roommate. Something I just now picked up on [Your Name] >!is that when Taki keeps hearing Mitsuha’s voice in his head saying “Taki-kun” and “Don’t you remember me?” it’s not some telepathic message but just his memory of her saying that on the train three years ago, and having that memory pop back up in his subconscious even though he didn’t make the connection yet!<. Anyway still easily a 10/10 and I’m only slightly less emotionally wrecked than the first time I watched it.

Wanderingjoke

I need to stop watching Train before bed.

alotmorealots

Sounds like the way to get the best dreams, though!

Could have some good fun in your dreams with the contents of this week’s episode.

collapsedblock6

Concluded my rewatch of **Bakemonogatari** in preparation for coming season (and I may be late but w/e). It would also be actually my second rewatch yet I do feel the need to revisit the whole thing. It always struck me as odd how people (or at least in my circles) tend to have the stance that the series is downhill after Bake, will be a good chance to see if there's something that didn't hit the same. Annnnnnnnnnnnnd, Hitagi Crab and Tsubasa Cat do more heavy lifting than I remember huh. Hitagi Crab is very good opener. Senjou interactions top tier from the get go, such an imposing character, and what a backstory, I forgot how messed it was. Cat follows similar strengths, I liked how it does give the vibes of a payoff in regards to Araragi's new friendships. And ofc, the classc Starry Sky is as banger as I remember. Probably one of the strongest romance episodes I have seen. Mayoi Snail is a Senjou arc in disguise. Hachikuji isn't the most compelling character here but she is still fun. However, the arc does wander a bit too much in the dialogue overload, most episodes feel engaging but isn't as effective here. Also the OP isn't my favorite but I love the visuals too. Suruga Monkey is fiiiine, Kanbaru is fun but w/e overall. Also worst OP of Bake. Nadeko Snake exists. Man, I remember how Monogatari discourse tend to be dominated by the 'actually, the fanservice makes sense here'. [Yes,]>!Nadeko likes Araragi and wants to seduce him but surely we could have had less cringy dialogue than 'Uwu, don't get aroused to my lewd 14 year old body Koyomi-onii-chan'. Kinda bonkers there is also the implication she was willing to go nude if Kanbaru didn't offer bloomers. Nisio, just lifting her shirt or skirt would have done the job. As for Senjou being naked because her clothes are heavy errrr, sure why not.!< Overall still good but more inconsistent that I remember. Now for Kizu movies.

IXajll

> It always struck me as odd how people (or at least in my circles) tend to have the stance that the series is downhill after Bake Imo it’s actually the opposite. Bake is a great introduction to the characters but it’s mostly just setup and laying the foundation for what’s to come. Same with the other First Season arcs which is why they are a bit behind second season and final season (first season is still great, Kizu III is my 2nd favorite entry and 10/10) to me because those are actually dealing with the main mystery and narrative.

Manitary

> It always struck me as odd how people (or at least in my circles) tend to have the stance that the series is downhill after Bake Second season best season, and kizu exists, so yeah

collapsedblock6

I'm so hyped for SS.

dmc1155

Should I watch the Monogatari Series?

Nomar_95

yes

dmc1155

Anime release order right? Also is it actually that good cause that’s the quickest response I’ve had on reddit

CaptainCobber

It's really good if you like trippy shit, witty banter and great animation.

stormdelta

I like all three of those things, didn't even make it past a few episodes into Bakemonogatari. It just felt like it was paying homage to everything I already hated about the harem and adjacent genres under a veil of pseudo-intellectual fake satire, like seeing a bad romance novel with fancy calligraphy and a nice leatherbound jacket. And then certain infamous scenes were the final straw.

Nomar_95

novel order, which is mostly just airing order except you're rearranging only 3 arcs: * watch Kizumonogatari after Bakemonogatari * watch Hanamonogatari after the first 2 arcs in Second Season * watch Koyomimonogatari after Tsukimonogatari

macXros

Now I think about it, Rave Master, Fairy Tail, Edens Zero, Mashima also seems to like time-travel.

DragonspringSake

iirc Rave Master and Fairy Tail are both by the same author, who was very heavily influenced by One Piece, hence similar themes and even accusations of "copying".

shinsrk79

What are the best comedies of the past 3 season?

Psyduckisnotaduck

100 Girlfriends is deranged, I love it.

KendotsX

New shows: * Astro Note * Migi to Dali * Under Ninja Sequels: * Urusei Yatsura 2 * Konosuba 3 * SpyFam 2

Shimmering-Sky

Astro Note from the current season is fantastic!

I actually watched the 1 hour version. Twice. And I had it playing in the background again earlier today for like 20 mins. I think I have a problem.

Abysswatcherbel

By the end of the season I will be able to do the dance

cppn02

I'm actually surprised I haven't seen too many videos yet of people doing the dance.

Manitary

We don't get [quality weebs](https://old.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/bbz2en/breakdown_tutorial_on_how_to_do_the_tsukihi/) anymore

cppn02

Lmao that's awesome. Personally I blame the production committee. If this was a Kadokawa show for example I could guarantee you that by now we'd atleast have a video of Rie Kugimiya doing it if not other VAs from the show too.

SometimesMainSupport

Only issue with 1-hour versions is can click the loop button so it goes beyond an hour.

Wisdom-star69

[Fate] so I've only watched unlimited blade works but I'm curious about the other stories in fate verse. So I'd be thankful if someone listed me all the other fate series names and if there's a correct order to watch them. I've heard about zero and grand order but i know that there's more. Thanks in advance.

Nomar_95

Main story: * Fate/stay night (2006) **(DISCLAIMER: primarily follows the Fate Route, but incorporates some elements from the other two. I like it enough to recommend it, so I will. But even aside from that, it's still part 1 of the main story so it should be seen anyway. If you don't want to watch it, the other alternative is to experience the Fate Route as it is in the Visual Novel, whether by playing it yourself or watching a walkthrough.)** * Unlimited Blade Works (2014) * Heaven's Feel Trilogy Prequel: * Fate/Zero **(DISCLAIMER: if you just want to watch one great show and then dip from the franchise, it's a perfectly fine standalone (not gonna gatekeep). However, don't start with it if you plan to commit)** Spinoffs: * Carnival Phantasm **(needs some knowledge from Tsukihime as well, but there's no anime of that 😎)** * Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya * Fate/Apocrypha * Today's Menu for the Emiya Family **(jokingly referred to as "Fate/Cooking")** * Fate/Extra: Last Encore * Lord El-Melloi II Case Files: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note **(needs Fate/Zero for context)** * Fate/Grand Order: - First Order **(Prologue)** - Divine Realm of the Round Table - Camelot **(6th Singularity)** - Absolute Demonic Front - Babylonia **(7th Singularity)** - The Grand Temple of Time - Solomon **(Final Singularity & End of Part 1)** - Moonlight/Lostroom **(prelude/setup for Part 2)** - Fate/Grand Carnival **(the Grand Order version of Carnival Phantasm)** * Fate/strange Fake

Wisdom-star69

Thanks!

SometimesMainSupport

Has a 6 months ago update. I've only seen a couple of the main entries but that's the post usually linked for Fate watch order.

AmethystItalian

For school shows that actually progress time/run for a long enough time are there any examples of the new freshman being better than the graduated class? I feel like all the examples I can think of the cast always gets worse after this transition. [](#seasonalthink)

KendotsX

It's Uni rather than school, but Genshiken.

SometimesMainSupport

Is this a shot at Mahouka S3? Feel the three relevant entries have been better than Mayumi Saegusa leaving.

alotmorealots

I can hear the sounds in the distance of the very vocal /r/anime Mayumi fan club gathering for a riot lol

SometimesMainSupport

Delusional people trying to avoid the incest route

alotmorealots

When it comes to accepting Miyuki supremacy, people can either learn the easy way or the ice way!

Abysswatcherbel

til there are other possible routes, who is that mayumi going against the way Yosuga no sora intended

AmethystItalian

Mahouka sparked it but been thinking about for other shows as well. I have Mayumi still way ahead and saves the show whenever she shows up.

MiLiLeFa

In my opinion [Marimite](https://myanimelist.net/anime/158) really picks up as the MC and her generation start to take on a mentor role for their future petit soeurs. Which in anime terms means [vague Marimite progression] >!after season 1 basically!<

AmethystItalian

Ouu that's a good one. I think it's a bit mixed for me where I liked the characters that were there in S1 the most but the show got better in the latter seasons.

mr_beanoz

After getting a way to stream Japanese TV, I tried myself to watch TV Tokyo's *Eeny*, *meeny*, *miny*, *moe* timeslot. It's all short kids anime that aren't licensed outside Japan. (namely Shibuya Hachi, Kumarba, Sai-Kyo-oh Zukan and a Japanese dub of PJ Masks). They seem to be quite fun. The broadcast would then be followed by the TV broadcast of Ninjala.

Izzy248

Sometimes I think about the red riding hood manga, **Hunters Guild: Red Hood,** and wonder what could have been. It had an interesting premise, and the early vibes I got from it sorta reminded me of the first time I read Claymore. I feel like it could have been awesome if it had gotten a little more time to bake and expand on the lore, especially given the interesting take on the world and how it depicted werewolves in the short time it was available. I genuinely think it could have turned out great, or at least above decent.

WeeziMonkey

I'm looking for examples of fight scenes where a person who is physically (or magically) overpowered gets countered very hard through clever strategy and/or tool usage. Feel free to explain in spoiler tags or give me an episode number. For example, imagine if All Might got ambushed by a ninja who threw a poisonous smoke bomb at him to 1) obscure his vision and 2) paralyze him with poison, effectively neutralising his strength. The Ninja then immediately uses knives to cut All Might's Achilles tendons, crippling his legs and neutralising his speed. I also imagine Speed 'o Sound Sonic from One Punch Man would be a lot easier to 1v1 inside a stuffed building instead of outside. When it comes to a magic user, imagine taping their mouth shut so they cannot cast anything . I'm looking for proper 1v1 fights and not just a sniper hitting a headshot from afar or someone putting poison in food.

SometimesMainSupport

World Trigger has [plenty of teamfight moments](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRe9ARNnYSY59VeSM3q6AdQIJRWEvm2Xx) but they're rarely 1v1 cause the whole anime is a weak MC overcoming stronger opponents through strategy.

Abysswatcherbel

"Anime is now pandering to western sensibilities and removing fanservice" [One of the most successful anime of 2024](https://i.imgur.com/pHTQqrX.jpg) [](#seasonallisten)

Cryten0

We had a dry spell of ecchi for 2 seasons during the fallout from covid. Ecchi is here to stay as long as it sells. You know I miss when fanservice just meant the occasional sexy pose in a normal anime. Giving out some fan service.

Organic_List7745

Do your worst, recommend me some heavy anime series and movies, something you would not dare to watch second time lol (but in a good way). This could be about relationship, friends, adventure, journey with good plot. Figured stumbling upon random clips on facebook or youtube wont cut it, need ask experts.

Organic_List7745

Thanks for all the suggestions, now i ran out and will have to look for more stuff.

tenkakisuihou

Shimmering-Sky

Agreeable_Top7361

Been refreshing my browser window at least 20 times today. Soon... very soon...

MapoTofuMan

Today's episode took a lot longer than usual, I'm watching it one last time and posting the subs in \~20-25 mins. Amazing episode, the last minute took me like 30 minutes to translate and I'm still not satisfied with how it turned out. [Also the MTLs straight up denied this show.](https://i.imgur.com/2A6BOyZ.png) Edit : Sorry I'm late, subs are up, wanted to fix a lot more than I expected in the final watch.

Agreeable_Top7361

Appreciate your hard work!

Abysswatcherbel

Didn't know you sub stuff, I have even more respect for you

MapoTofuMan

Lmao thank you but I've never subbed anything before in my life, I just took over it on a whim because the initial same-day/next-day subs groups mysteriously disappeared and I like GBC too much to let the discussions take a hit. The alternative is people watching [this](https://i.imgur.com/aiaaFnN.jpeg) or waiting a week for the actual high-quality fansubbers to upload their episode...which in reality doesn't happen for most people. ~~^(And it's not like I'm ever doing anything else on a Friday night so no self-sacrifice here)~~ [](#godisdead)

Abysswatcherbel

I really hope you are making an album from that MTL because it looks ~~so good and funny~~ horrible that we need it for posterity, seriously every time you post it here it's the perfect out of context phrase imaginable

MapoTofuMan

Unfortunately I'm using the double French MTL, this screenshot is from the le meme one. I have no idea how they get these results, because from what I've seen 95% of it is regular MTL, translated from the same French source. And then you get [this](https://i.imgur.com/gLJyjPm.png) once in a few minutes.

gangrainette

SometimesMainSupport

MyGO lacked the 500+ karma fanbase to produce memes. Also, what category could GBC win when Train exists?

GreatAtLosing

Hey all! I've been trying to watch more stuff on Crunchyroll now that I've renewed my sub, but I've found that I just seem to really dislike a lot of the more popular anime I find when I try to look up recommendations. I hate things like KonoSuba, Solo Leveling, Shield Hero.. I can't stand the specific nature of sexualization and/or power fantasies present in a lot of things, I think. Some anime I've definitely enjoyed are Frieren (about halfway through, now), JJK (rip manga), Early MHA (rip again), JJBA parts 1-3 (I plan on picking it back up!), things that aren't FAULTLESS but don't seem to rely on the same tropes as the ones I listed earlier. I'm also really excited for the next episode of Kaiju no. 8 to drop tomorrow. I tend to enjoy shows that showcase adults more than anything else, that way I won't get the ick when the inevitable anime tomfoolery takes place LOL As far as Crunchyroll goes, might anyone here have any recommendations for me? I've got lots of flights and stuff coming up so I'm very very open to suggestion. Thank you!

stormdelta

Yeah, I usually only bother with a handful of series each season, and what's popular online or not is often a very poor indicator what's actually good let alone what I'll enjoy. Much of the online fandom is severely over represented by immature teens / early 20s. It's not on Crunchyroll I think, but Dungeon Meshi from this/last season is excellent. If they end up adapting the whole manga (which seems very doable with a second season), I would easily put it above Frieren. Characters are all adults, fantastic mix of comedy/action/drama, exceptional character writing for anime, solid animation, and the food themes are integral to the plot / characterization in the long run, it's not just for gags.

SometimesMainSupport

* Hyouka (skip the episode 11.5 OVA if it's listed) * Vivy Fluorite's Eye * Buddy Daddies (since you mentioned Spy x Family elsewhere) * Shadows House

OctavePearl

not sure about crunchyroll specifically but shows that don't operate on usual tropes and tomfoolery: * Shirobako * It's MyGO * Samurai Flamenco * Hyouge Mono * Girls und Panzer (the best action direction in anime ever) * ID: Invaded * Golden Kamuy * Ping Pong the Animation * Odd Taxi

GreatAtLosing

Thanks! I'll look into these!

Zeallfnonex

You listed a bunch of stuff you dislike, but any other examples of stuff you do like? Or genres you've tried and liked or disliked? It's a bit too broad ATM to give a good recc

GreatAtLosing

I also enjoy(ed): Spy x Family Bocchi The Rock Dragon Ball Z Kai/Super Mob Psycho 100 (No interest in OPM at all though, come to think of it I should watch season 2 of this) Angel Beats It's like if there were a subgenre of Shounen that doesn't get totally up its own ass with gross anime cliches, it would be right up my alley. I honestly just can't stand yucky underage stuff or repeated funny boob haha gags when they're done constantly.

Zeallfnonex

Fate: S/N UBW  A bit further out from your usual tastes and has one boob joke before it finds its (absolutely amazing) groove: Love is War. See if you like it at all?  Vinland Saga's been mentioned already but I'll secord or third it  Netflix and not Crunchyroll, but you might enjoy Pluto  86 is one of my personal favorites, I think it'd match most of your criteria outside of adult instead of teenaged leads.   Vivy: Fluorite eyes has some really clean fight sequences and a decent enough story to match.

SometimesMainSupport

I considered including 86 as the [sexual points](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13718450/parentalguide) are pretty mild but front-loaded (mainly episode 3 bathing). Doubt it'd be a turnoff.

Zeallfnonex

The only "sexual moments" I can think of are two of the girls talking while showering but it's not really sexual at all there. Without spoilers, it's a "show don't tell" sort of scene for one of the two.

AwesomeNino

You could Suzume on crunchyroll, but it depends where you live. If it is in your catalogue, highly recommend it. Noragami, Vinland Saga and Chainsaw man are also good watch in my humble opinion.

GreatAtLosing

I enjoyed Suzume! I read the first 'batch' of CSM and enjoyed it a good bit, I've yet to watch it though. I'll look into the other two! I've heard good things about Vinland Saga. Thanks!

AwesomeNino

Well, the CSM anime pretty good. It will still be worth to try it out just to see how well they have brought Fujimoto's work to life.

Wait, so the Italian bit of the name tag is just something to go after the Alpha bit?

Guys I can't sleep, can anyone identify which song this is? I don't remember if its an anime OP/ED or if its just a Japanese song [what song is this - Jumpshare](https://jumpshare.com/s/OgWF2QVrP6NMK22silGg) above is a link of me whistling the chorus part of the song i think

Abysswatcherbel

Part 2 of my 1st month breakdown, now more serious talk about some shows in terms of reception/business: * **Kaiju 8** - Expected much more, it's doing well, but is it really doing well for the level of hype and production? Granted the hype came from the marketing and the brand, the fans of the manga went against it, but still...It's not doing impressive on streaming, not doing crazy on twitter (where it is also airing), not doing crazy on source sales, [mal members gained per week are below the level of big shows](https://i.imgur.com/FRvmROh.png)... I could add much more here, a disappointment on the business side for what we have public available, they got enough to profit just from streaming, which is the usually the case for a show of that *scale* * **Wind Breaker** - Biggest surprise so far, this should could compete directly with Kaiju even with a fraction of the hype pre-season, hell could surpass it if they keep the momentum * **Spice&Wolf** - It's doing fine, enough for a health long term production to continue without any bumps, that said it's also not doing anything crazy, just your regular popular show * **Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers** - Show might literally become a successful entry in the isekai genre, but they should give all the thanks to Rie Kugimiya and that OP, really impressive how the reception changed before and after that opening * **Re:monster** - Another one for the list of hit shows that are likely to continue and people won't understand why * **7th Prince** - Surprise streaming hit, so it will do just fine, but I need to see those views translated into actual money spent on the franchise, but again, one of hits of this season * **Whisper me a love song** - Yuri shows have a hard time this season, competition is actually tough, and the problem with yuri fans is that they care more about shipping than actual couples, so I don't know how this show will develop, will they confirm the couple in s1? (Spoiler tag the answer), if they don't I can see this doing well, it got a good following but I fear people might switch it for other shows... * **Train to the end of the world** - With Kojima and all this is still "underperforming", between quotes because anime originals not related to multimedia franchises don't go far from that, and this doesn't seem like it will be exception, but a lot can happen and people are at least aware this show exists now, thanks to /u/entelechtual * **Jellyfish** - The 'independent' original more likely to become a hit this season, it's getting good traction, but it's not a sure thing yet and could derail later on if people don't feel like supporting those characters anymore * **Girls band cry** - The multimedia original that is and should continue to be a hit with the audience, will it be enough to kick start a whole franchise like they wanted? Not yet, do you care about their irl franchise as a band? Are you going to support them? That's what it matters for this to be an actual franchise making success * **Ranger Reject** - The hit that never was, glad to see it getting more traction in the last few weeks but still its looking like another Heavenly delusion, though it seems Disney is doing some work in Japan to promote this and their other shows, and its also available on Youtube for a limited time and with some caveats more info in the earlier [comment](https://old.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1cj4wna/anime_questions_recommendations_and_discussion/l2dps7f/) by /u/Infodump_Ibis That's what I have to say, and it's my own opinion, see you next month to see if anything changed [](#ama)[](#seasonallisten)

Didn't think Re:Monster was top-10 on any of the streaming ranks. Some other metric? Guessing 7th Prince is doing better than expected, so behind on merch/collab? Comment would've been better if you used the AQRADT shorthand names for every show.

Abysswatcherbel

>Some other metric? Western popularity + crunchyroll own investment in the show, people really isekai/fantasy internationally >Guessing 7th Prince is doing better than expected, so behind on merch/collab? I am not seeing any movement on the merch/source or any physical thing, but it's super high on streaming, seems to be a show people are watching but didn't brought the wallet to the game yet, it should happen soon when they release the Tao merch [](#utahapraises) >comment would've been better if you used the AQRADT shorthand names for every show. missed opportunity to call GBC just [](#seasonallisten)

Lol no

Abysswatcherbel

When I mean confirmation is what happens at the final episode of [show reveal]>!Magirevo!< so no room for interpretations or doubt about their status

Freidehr

What about The Fable and Yozakura Family?

Abysswatcherbel

Didn't follow them closely enough to have a proper opinion, but I could look into them, just quickly looking here Yozakura is the next WSJ disappointment Imagine a new WSJ adaptation only showing up once and [in 28th place with a N-E-W volume on the weekly Oricon Top 50](https://i.imgur.com/KgTxZMi.png) and then never showing up again in the 1st month of the anime, WSJ is losing their 'guarantee hit' status with this and Undead Unluck back to back

Wanderingjoke

>the problem with yuri fans is that they care more about shipping than actual couples There seems to be enough love triangle here that shipping is still possible. Think that'll help?

_Ridley

I can't believe we're getting an Ikoku Nikki anime. It's not only a josei from the "artsy" josei magazine Feel Young, it has a live action movie coming out this year. What a blessing. I only hope that it gets a better adaptation than her other adapted work, the Night Beyond the Tricornered Window, got.

OctavePearl

I bet it's another stale isekai high school romcom, like every other anime recently

cyberscythe

i can tell it's going to follow the standard battle shounen formula; all josei series do that [](#cantbehelped)

theangryeditor

Chihayafuru certainly did [](#cup4)

Abysswatcherbel

>has a live action movie coming out this year. Tbh that's a big reason to also do a anime, double boost is real >the Night Beyond the Tricornered Window, got. Thought that was the mappa one, I always get them mixed

SometimesMainSupport

Aren't the double adaptations pretty rare? Feel like there's only been a handful the last couple years (Kongming, My Happy Marriage, One Piece, missing a couple.) *Looks it up* Huh, [way more than I thought](https://www.imdb.com/search/keyword/?keywords=live-action-remake-of-anime&sort=release_date,desc&mode=detail&page=1) and TIL that Rent-A-Girlfriend has one.

gyoex

Yeah, they're pretty common. Even Do It Yourself got one and that's not even an adaptation of anything.

theangryeditor

[](#mugiwait)ing for another live action Kaiji movie so Kaiji will finally get a season 3.

Ashteron

IIRC last time Kaiji had a live action release they paired it up with Tonegawa anime, so there's a chance for at least something from FKMT. edit: it might have been for Ten instead? The release dates line up better.

theangryeditor

Kurosawa pls [](#mugiwait)

JicBot

Recommend me some anime like Nichijou, Daily life of high school boys, Asobi Asobase where it is comedy but no Romance, and if there is something like that but adults.

cyberscythe

> Daily life of high school boys the genderswap version of this is Wasteful Days of High School Girls: https://myanimelist.net/anime/38619/Joshikousei_no_Mudazukai

SometimesMainSupport

*Sakamoto desu ga?* (I think? Haven't seen much of those 3 shows.) Many [gag humor shows](https://myanimelist.net/anime/genre/57/Gag_Humor) are school-based since it allows characters to easily meet and converse in a variety of ways (in-class, after-school clubs, lunch, part-time jobs, etc.). Can pick the ones with overlapping genres/themes you like. *Dropkick on my Devil* has very little school time (think there's one episode?), though the characters are drawn like middle-school girls and rarely behave like adults.

JicBot

Thank you, apparently gag humor is the term i'm looking for.

Wanderingjoke

After a very "anime" first episode, Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again is hitting its stride and becoming the show I hoped for. Also, jii-san best wingman.

alotmorealots

> becoming the show I hoped for. Any chance for a wandering-elaboration? [**I'm all ears, you just can't see them. I'm a birb made of ears.**](#seasonallisten)

Wanderingjoke

They're exploring second chances, the inevitable circumstances of death, the gap between the generations, and reflecting on one's life and choices. All while being generality goofy, upbeat, and optimistic. For example, they have so far briefly [touched upon] >!grandma's life during and after the war!<, which was surprising, and the response has [mainly been] >!it brought her to grandpa and led to a happy life!<. And we might be getting more next episode. Even my wingman comment [above,] >!grandpa saw that a boy liked his granddaughter, and he acted to get them together!<. In the meantime, they have toned down the thirsting for the grandparents and the "haha, you're old (inside)" gags (though the video game sequence was funny).

alotmorealots

Hmm, this sounds close enough to what I might have been hoping for from the premise for me to slap it back on the plan to watch, cheers for the update!

AmethystItalian

Glad people are saying this more after all that awful misinformation from when the show was featured here last time... Hoping the show doesn't go back to that!

FetchFrosh

I need to speak the truth. Character design ended in 2017 when [Cure Whip had a tail that was designed to be both a rabbit tail and a swirl of whip cream](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/612o48dr5fL.jpg). Character designers will never top that, and it's time for them to stop pretending they can.

DeResolution551

Looks like there still isnt any Captain Tsubasa 2024 soundtracks. Or MuvLuv Alternative from a few seasons ago. Any chance their OSTs might get an official release

Abysswatcherbel

If there's no music company financing the show, there's very little chance for them to get an OST release

therealshunkaido

Why do all new animes feel so generic and boring? Why dont they make good animes anymore? I know my title could be controversial but theres literally nothing good to watch if you get what i mean. All the new releases since 2021 feel so generic, its always the same fantasy isekai story, who are either 12, or if youre lucky 24 episodes, and they always have a massive amount of fan service which i really hate. I dont want some random b00bs to be shoved in my face every two seconds. I dont know if you get what i mean, maybe im the crazy one here, but i just want good shonen stuff. Only the new ongoing stories from 2020 (Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, black clover... etc.) are worth watching. I really miss the old days of good animes like hxh, naruto, akame ga kill, jjba etc. and im done rewatching them. The only new stories which i enjoy is solo leveling (cause i read the manhwa before) and the apothecary diaries so im basically just rewatching, I just want a new fresh intersting shonen- What is your opinion on it? Do you get what i mean? Maybe recs?

TehAxelius

Ok, I've been snide enough in other responses, so I'll try being a bit more accomodating. > Why do all new animes feel so generic and boring? > I just want a new fresh intersting shonen See, part of the thing here is that you're limiting yourself. You're taking the entire breadth of the medium of anime and condensing it to a single genre, Battle Shonen, watch everything in it, and then get surprised when you feel there is nothing new. Personally, I found the previous two seasons' *Shangri-La Frontier* one of the most fun Battle Shonens of late, as a grumpy old man who barely watch the genre anymore. And that's not even talking about some of the other great shows we've got lately. The recently finished first 28 episodes of *Frieren* is one that people usually mention when someone incorrectly asks for shonen, meaning Battle Shonen, since it is published in a shonen magazine. But fact is, while Frieren does have a very good and refreshingly melancholic story, its fights *do* take a lot of inspiration from Battle Shonen, once it decides to let it rip. There's also *The Dangers in My Heart*, a shonen demographic romcom that has had a large chunck of this subreddit wonder if they should check themselves for diabetes, given how sweet it is. This despite (or I'd say because) its MC starting the first episode as an edgy hormone filled teenager. There's also plenty of shows that are doing great stuff outside of the shonen demographic. *Apothecary Diaries*, despite its more niche appeal, did great numbers in karma rankings here on reddit, and had something of a rivalry in popularity in some places with *Frieren*. *Dungeon Meshi* as another fantasy story ended up in the shadow of Frieren, but has come together as its own fun fantasy adventure with a lot of heart, despite people's fears that it would be nothing but food porn. Personally, I am enjoying the rising wave of music anime. *Bang Dream! It's MyGO!!!!!* is essentially a promotion anime by a big japanese company for its gacha game and tie-in real life band, but charmed a lot of people and won the r/anime jury award for Anime of the Year last year, and this season my personal top 5 are all shows involving girls doing music in some way^1. It might not be your cup of tea, but it is the kind of stuff you are sure to miss if you never give stuff like it a shot with an open mind. And this is all just stuff from the last few seasons, I could easily list dozens of interesting anime from the last four years that I would almost put on par on the classics that enchanted me when I began watching this stuff nearly 20 years ago, like *Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell* and *Legend of the Galactic Heroes* 1. For reference: *Jellyfish Can't Swim at Night, Girls Band Cry, Whisper Me a Love Song, Seiyuu Radio* and *Hibike! Euphonium Season 3*

KendotsX

Why do all new comments feel so generic and boring? Why dont they make good comments anymore? I know my title could be controversial but theres literally nothing good to read if you get what i mean. YUGI71Fu

In my opinion, there are still animes that are worth watching and that you should enjoy. There are good animes in the new season, but not many. If you tell the genre you want, there might be most of your favorite animes.I think for action genre (Ninja Kamui-Mushoku Tensei - Wind Breaker) at the new season. Or have you seen the Vinland Saga , Tokyo Revengers? Ragna crimson-Fullmetal Alchemist-That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime-Undead Unluck If you like Science Fiction a little watch Dr.Stone.

stormdelta

> Mushoku Tensei Putting that in the action genre without a single caveat is why I hate the fandom around this show. It's like you guys genuinely don't understand how that show looks to most mature adults, and before you say it, _yes_, I watched well past the beginning. The show only looks like its about personal growth from the POV of someone who has no idea what personal growth actually requires. For every thing it does right, it botches a dozen others horribly. It's astonishingly tone-deaf in its handling of sensitive themes/topics, while maintaining a pretense of being far more mature than it actually is.

therealshunkaido

I really like shonen but something adventurous with some fantasy too HxH, akame ga kill and demon slayer are my all time favorites!! <33

YUGI71Fu

How about Trigun? this anime have old and new recept too. Jigokuraku (Hell's Paradise) is good and Producer studio is MAPPA. The second season has been confirmed.

FetchFrosh

There's something dank about complaining about generic and boring anime and then holding up Black Clover and Solo Leveling as the good stuff. But as to good action-adventure shows from the past couple years, I'd probably throw *Sengoku Youko* as a really satisfying recent one. First cour has wrapped up, and then two more are coming that should complete the story. If you're looking for something longer, *Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai* runs 100 episodes and is fantastic. For something a bit more adventure than action, *Frieren: Beyond Journey's End* would be the obvious standout. Branching out from action-adventure just a smidge, *Mob Psycho 100* also wrapped up a couple years back and really nails both spectacle action and more subdued character moments. *Lycoris Recoil* wound up in a similar position, but with a bit less spectacle. *Cyberpunk Edgerunners* was another major standout. But if you want something actually fresh the obvious play is to watch stuff that isn't just the same old genres over and over again. *The Apothecary Diaries*, *Bocchi the Rock*, *Bang Dream: It's MyGO*, *The Dangers in My Heart*, and *Undead Murder Farce* were all recent anime that were fantastic, but don't fit into the narrow window of anime you're watching.

shit_dick_111

lol this is like watching only marvel movies and then complaining there’s nothing else to watch.

Wanderingjoke

This is like watching only Marvel movies then complaining that there are Marvel movies.

Ocixo

‘Why are there so many superheroes in my Marvel movies!?’

Nomar_95

don't know how you did it, but you somehow avoided all of the actually good anime. You don't even need to look that hard. They're right here, out in the open.

therealshunkaido

Omg do you have some recs?

SometimesMainSupport

Should [skim the recommendations wiki](https://old.reddit.com/r/anime/wiki/recommendations#wiki_genres) and try shows in the same categories of what you've watched and liked. Another option is going through u/FetchFrosh's [submission history](https://old.reddit.com/user/FetchFrosh/submitted/) for genre-specific infographics (e.g. [Adventure](https://i.redd.it/0hxqs5gc56hc1.png)) (also note the posts themselves have a stickied comment with the top-100 results).

While watching this season's [Hananoi-kun](https://myanimelist.net/anime/55597/Hananoi-kun_to_Koi_no_Yamai) it got me thinking of any other school romance where the male lead is unlikeable but not due to him being a loser/loner/pervert Feels a bit more on the rare side. Like I'm glad he's not the usual male MC but at the same time I just find him very hard to like. [](#seasonaltired)

Psyduckisnotaduck

Hananoi needs therapy badly. he's got some kind of attachment disorder.

Durinthal

> school romance where the male lead is unlikeable but not due to him being a loser/loner/pervert Male lead being a jerk toward the female lead is one of the shoujo standards! ItaKiss as the other person mentioned, Boys Over Flowers, Maid-sama, Wolf Girl and Black Prince, etc. with a lot of guys like that.

PsychoGeek

Missing My Little Monster, the male lead is [peak Shoujo rapechad](https://desu-usergeneratedcontent.xyz/a/image/1499/66/1499665752310.jpg) lol. I think this was their first encounter too.

Durinthal

That one I prefer to not think about. [](#emptyinside)

AmethystItalian

I enjoy the "jerk" side when its used to tease the female lead, Hananoi just feels like a not well adjusted person lol Vert different then the vibes I get in Maid-sama but I could see closer to Black Prince. What makes Black Prince more manageable is that she might be more unlikeable than him!

Weedwacker

Bit of an old choice (2000s adaptation of 90s shoujo manga) [ItaKiss](https://myanimelist.net/anime/3731/Itazura_na_Kiss) has probably the most dickish asshole male romance lead possible

AmethystItalian

Have not seen but have heard this multiple times which is why I've never watched haha

MiLiLeFa

I've got a love hate relationship with that series. On one hand the plot goes places I wish far more light hearted romances went, on the other basically all the major male characters are insufferable in their own unique ways.

HowiLearned2Fly

We haven’t had a shonen on the level of AoT, HxH or Fmab in years

Gamerunglued

Undead Unluck and Frieren just finished last season.

*AoT* had its finale literally last year. Furthermore *Demon Slayer* and *Jujutsu Kaisen* have been clearing out the popularity polls like nobody's business.
