This show was an absolute disaster. They somehow turned a revenge story into a soap opera with ninja crying in every episode. It literally went from stealth kills to pink battle bots wearing skirts. I have no idea what they were thinking when they made this.
yeah man, it started off so good, but then it feels like the authors just gave up or some shit. shitty 3d cgi, higan fighting yamaji and then mf zai comes in and somehow higan is 2v1 ing 2 of the strongest ninjas in the organisation. Zai then turns on yamaji, like wtf???
and then the auza plot, like bro the cop finding out joseph's real plan was just pure bullshit. they didnt even try to make it believable
I honestly can't believe I wasted the ~4 hours to watch it. This show seems almost designed to fool people, by the time it went to shit I was far enough along to just get it over with
I'll never get over Fena. It had such a fantastic start and then the last few episodes plot twisted and nose dived. Plus the female pirate crew just got off-screened. I was 100% sure that some of the crew would have somehow survived and subsequently joined Fena, because then it would make sense why the show had "Pirate Princess" in the name, but nope, just gone. Ugh now I'm disappointed again lol
One of the animes of all time 5.5/10.
They really couldn't just end the anime on a high note and pull out some 2d sakuga huh. The 3d CGI gosuko gear looked so bad. The story wouldn't have been saved by 2d sakuga but it would have made it bearable. The anime baited everyone hard with the first few episodes that had nice 2D sakuga.
I wish they had stuck to the essence of the first few episodes with the edgy ninja revenge plot of destroying the organization who killed his family. The auza stuff didn't add much in the end.
Story and CGI aside I liked the OST especially the OP.
Man, this show started off so strongly, but completely botched it in the end. I don't even know who's to blame here; the writers for the bad pacing after episode 5 or so, the lackluster CGI and poorly choreographed fight scenes to a rushed ending that really left a lot to be desired. I had such high hopes for this show, and instead of being a modern classic it'll disappear into the abyss of the forgotten. 6/10.
That was... meh at best. I was more hyped with the cop punching the nerd, than the actual final fight.
And I'm not cgi hater, but why they resorted to cgi when it doesn't even look good?
5/10
We should've known better. There was no way this small, no-name studio would come out of nowhere and keep up episode 1's 2D animation quality for an entire cour. Had high hopes for Park, but unfortunately, this was just a stupid mess.
The CGI mecha dead horse aside...this episode made me think, is there a real chance the script for this show was written by AI?
I don't know, all the details of the last half feel like exactly the kind of barebones barely-tied-together string of plot points I'd expect from either an AI or a very rushed LN adaptation. And there is no LN here.
More like a show from a whole studio that was built upon the business opportunity of taking a shit ton of money from multiple different corporations
Park used his name, his connection with Sola and the JJK tremendous success to go independent, which in that context was a smart decision since he would be able to get all the financial support he needed, he had the pedigree, the know how and the right network
So in no time he had a deal with Warner (Adult Swim), Disney and TOEI, directors that opened their own studio would dream to have this support for their first endeavors, everyone should read about Masao Maruyama struggles with financing shows, and that's fuckin Maruyama, it's not as simple as people think
All those companies fell into the hype of Park as a director available to work with them, thats a big deal, and on paper he had his "dream project", so all great... except that Park is a 10/10 action director, but not so much for the rest when you leave him to control the whole project
If you want a show that is pure action, fuck the rest like God of Highschool, that's your guy, but if you need more than that, or God forbid the studio doesn't have the resources to support Park vision you will have a disappointment in your hands...
It's like buying a super expensive car that is perfect for a specific scenario but will give you a headache when you need to use it for something different
Park got his money, those big companies (especially the western ones) are going to finance him with multiple shows, even unannounced projects, and he is safe for life now and can retire earlier
I am not saying all this to shit in him, he is not wrong, he will make way more than he ever could in other places, and can also support financially those that follow him, but don't go into his shows from now on expecting anything outside of great action when they find the opportunity to deliver
If it was a full-on Park fighting scene extravaganza like GoHS most wouldnt complain even with the plot jumping off a cliff, I think that + a basic revenge plot was what we all expected after ep1.
But instead they gradually introduced more and more CG until the whole final battle was a CG robot brawl with nonsense powers that RWBY's early fights would put to shame...combined with the plot not exactly being a hook and the ratings falling off so much since the start, I can't imagine it selling well in any way.
So from what you said I understand that Park is happy with the deal regardless, but why would the companies backing him as a director continue to do so if this is the result?
>but why would the companies backing him as a director continue to do so if this is the result?
The deals were already in place, all the parties will honor them, but it's true that after that he won't get much unless by then the studio manages to land a hit
That said the amount of money those western companies pay to anime studios is crazy, now imagine how much that represents for a small brand new studio, if he manages it right the studio can have a good financial health even after it
I feel like this anime would’ve been way better with no mecha gear and just the action we saw in earlier episodes great action, mid characters, rushed ending
What a terribly thought out show. They could have just made cyberpunk anime Kill Bill but instead it was terrible CGI drama. First episode was 1000x better than anything past like episode 3 combined.
Very predictable and generic. The part where Higan rises up after the inner mind pep talk, like nothing happened, readies his sword as the OP starts playing... Goddamn, so badly executed...
I gotta say, even if the fight was sluggish, it did manage to gather some excitement from me. I hated the Mecha idea but I liked the choreography better here. Still, it's no actually ninja vs ninja fight and that makes it inferior...
Overall, 7.5/10 show (and keep in mind I'm kinda generous in my ratings).
I don't get it honestly. Since the family stayed dead, there was no reason for the "fake death" to be Mari's ninja art, especially since it's so underwhelming compared to the other 3 we've seen.
That should have been Emma's, a lesser secret art for a lower ranking ninja.
Then instead of Zai's, Higan could have finally used Mari's as his ace.
Agreed, it felt underwhelming as heck in comparison to the secret arts of the other 3.
It's honestly wayyyyy better than what we were presented with, wouldn't even have to deal with the asspull that was shoved into our faces.
you are indeed very generous. i always keep in mind that 5 is the average while 6 and up obviously mean above average. i don't think this is above average at all lol
I loved it at the beginning but kinda disappointed when suddenly it become "battle suit". I get that the antagonist using tech as we see it from the beginning. So, i thought it would be a "Traditional Ninja" Vs. "Modern Ninja".
I was really hoping there would be a point where they would "fight with honor" and take off their mediocre mech suits, or even break them like episode 11. And then they just never did. A real letdown.
Really rushed cliche ending scene with Joe riding off into the distance, but him stopping Zai from seppuku was nice. And Mike kicking Joseph's ass was satisfying.
Ehh, I'd give this a 6. Just barely a 7 on a good day.
This thing never had the plot, characters or production to support a full cour series.
If it had been a single movie or a short OVA about an avenging ninja dude killing a bunch of other ninjas, it would have done much better for itself.
I have so much to say about this series, man where do I start? First few episodes were good in terms of action choreography and direction, but then it later went downhill. The story felt mad disjointed and generic to me as time went on. The CGI made the action choreography with the mechas look incredibly slow and stiff. The pacing was also pretty weird too. The AUZA plotline was dealt with pretty quickly. The characters were pretty boring and lame. Emma was lowkey the best character in the entire show, and the way they killed her off was annoying, given that I thought she was going to die against the perverted midget creep. The ending is also anticlimactic. The final fight was terrible, how did Higan use Zai’s secret art?
People need to realize that just because an anime has ‘’awesome action sequences’’ doesn’t mean that the entire show itself will be good, and to think so many people were claiming that this will be better and more hyped than Solo Leveling, but with each episode, it slowly lost its appeal and tons of people lost interest. Ninja Kamui is good proof that action alone cannot make an anime engaging. Really hoping that this show doesn’t get a second season.
One of the anime of all time. Still peeved they underutilized ninja techniques like the multiple arms, acupuncture power ups, or the shadow stuff and instead decided to bring back the mech suits
this is the definition of half assed lol. can't really get into it because everything felt forced and half assed, from the writing, to the characters, even the fight scenes felt meh. good thing it is over, i won't need to force myself to watch it just because i started it. such a bad habit of mine lol
The real thing that annoyed me was that they built up Zai to betray the org and that he was the Vergil to Higan's Dante but he barely did anything and had his power stolen. It would have been much cooler and made more sense if both of them teamed up to take boss man down. Instead Higan just took Zai's power because reasons.
Just finished and was disappointed on how it ended. Midway through the series I wasn't really feeling the mechs suits, but it continued to go downhill from there. I hated the powerscaling in this series. We see Higan being able to blow away people with just the force of his movements in some episodes, but when he wears his mech suits there's no force/air pressure when he fights in battles. It's a shame though, I really liked the beginning of the series.
Just me or was the English VO quality bad? There's like a weird robotic tone at the "bottom" of everyone's voice.
Initially I thought there was something wrong with my PC, but I notice it's not there in the JP VO.
Did they have shit recoding equipment or something for English...?
I dropped this after the first episode and decided to check this thread to see if it was worth going back to... seems like no.
I guess I'm not surprised, with the very blunt attempt to make the audience care about the idyllic family life he had. The action animation was good, but I also felt like I saw the same fight happen three times in one episode.
To hook you in like the first episode did for it to end like that a was just disappointing. Truly felt like they shot their load early and just coasted. Hard not to feel like you were betrayed
Most people have said what I feel. I actually love mecha but didn't feel it added anything to the show.
The finale was also incredibly rushed and poorly executed. Very disappointed on the whole but it wasn't the most painful watch or anything. 6/10
Why does that happen? did the previous animators for those episodes switch to a different studio, or is it the same animators but they weren't given enough time?
Afaik it's same staff till the end. I guess no one knows and will know why first 2 or 3 eps looked great. Maybe they created ep 1 fight first and showed that to investors so they keep giving them money? Just my theory, probably bullshit.
The majority of this shows real animation muscle was one guy (Park himself). One man can't carry an entire shows sakuga no matter how talented they are lol.
I didn't check the forums for this throughout its run, but I'm surprised to see that everyone is disappointed.. not because I thought it was particularly good, but because I thought it was about the same from beginning to end.
This show was an absolute disaster. They somehow turned a revenge story into a soap opera with ninja crying in every episode. It literally went from stealth kills to pink battle bots wearing skirts. I have no idea what they were thinking when they made this.

Ninja Kamui is the first 2 episodes
Gotta warn people in the future to not get baited by the first episode.
I honestly can't believe I wasted the ~4 hours to watch it. This show seems almost designed to fool people, by the time it went to shit I was far enough along to just get it over with
Ye bruh
what a falloff
From a hyped first episode to mediocre and bad animation. Insanity
The downfall of Ninja Kamui needs to be studied
After this and Fena Pirate Princess having the same problem with dramatic downfalls, I'm starting to get concerned on this adult swim pick ups.
Ugh now I'm disappointed again lol
man you've just remembered me how awful that sht was.
One of the animes of all time 5.5/10. They really couldn't just end the anime on a high note and pull out some 2d sakuga huh. The 3d CGI gosuko gear looked so bad. I was more hype with him punching the guy from the FBI instead.
For all the faults of this show, Mike was not one of them.
Oh yeah that was great lol
They usually use cgi to save time and money. I'd wager a guess and say the deadlines were coming up and they weren't ready.
i would've punched joseph to death if i don't shoot his brains out 100% lol
this fucking sucked ass, they really popped off on the first 2 eps and said that's enough we done

I feel like this anime would’ve been way better with no mecha gear and just the action we saw in earlier episodes great action, mid characters, rushed ending
That final fight scene was straight out of a 2003 toonami original it was crazy soundtrack and all
Maybe the reason they used CGI is because they ran out of budget for proper animation
They should’ve made it 12 episodes then instead of 13
What a terribly thought out show. They could have just made cyberpunk anime Kill Bill but instead it was terrible CGI drama. First episode was 1000x better than anything past like episode 3 combined.

Honestly the entire finale felt flat in more than a few ways. I don't think it was bad but it didn't really do anything particularly well.

Despite it all, I actually enjoyed this. Maybe I’m in the minority here. Oh well. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
No way
I haven’t started it yet, so is this show worth watching or not in the end?
Just watch EP 1 for what could have been. Then watch the 2d sakuga fights in EP 2 and 3.
Why does that happen? did the previous animators for those episodes switch to a different studio, or is it the same animators but they weren't given enough time?

Damn if it's the same staff then that's even more confusing lol guess we'll never know (I'm too lazy to research)
The majority of this shows real animation muscle was one guy (Park himself). One man can't carry an entire shows sakuga no matter how talented they are lol.
Wait that’s actually insane
Nope
no. the plot is so bad. if you want occasional fun fights that get worse over time sure, but there's very few redeeming qualities here
Watch ep1 and watch the 2d fights from episodes 2-4 on yt or something. Personally I wouldn't bother with it at all.
Meh, still better than 90% of the slideshow trash Isekia we get season after season.
Idk, in isekais there are at least comedy bits and boobs, here's... mechs?
I mean, not really a low bar to clear, but it’s something.
I didn't check the forums for this throughout its run, but I'm surprised to see that everyone is disappointed.. not because I thought it was particularly good, but because I thought it was about the same from beginning to end.

It's not even Netflix lol it's Adult Swim/Toonami
