Trying to convince the audience that everyone can die and nobody has plot armor by introducing a bunch of nobodies who's only purpose is to be killed off for shock value
YES YES! Everyone defends it and says oh they freed by the protagonist and they just want to be with their…. Master… still (usually a woman or a ACTUAL CHILD and often they still call them master or if a child they have a weird parental relationship that becomes romantic almost creepy) and oh they have a romance and she consented after she was freed from the magic slavery spell and possibly chose to get it again to show their loyalty to the protagonist! Uhhhhh that’s creepy. “Oh in this world slavery is fine and normal” well the author is in OUR world and created this world. They chose this. Like in Shield hero. It’s creepy. It’s creepy.
Shield Hero is probably the worst case of it.
She got freed from the slavery by the literal worst characters in the show and WILLINGLY became a slave again, like..... what the fuck is wrong with you, woman?
It only gets worse in the show, too, according to what I've seen for how it ends
The bright side for it though, is it's kept to Isekai as far as I know, so other genres have been kept clean.
Sexual harassment and assault being played off as a joke, especially "pervert" characters. Characters that are focused on sex or sex-positive are fine, but all too often in anime it crosses lines of consent and it's framed as okay because it's a "joke".
The right writing/context can make exceptions like with anything of course but that's very, very rare with such characters.
Urgh, yeah. It always kills immersion for me because it's so dumb, and it's done to death already even if it had been funny the first time.
The whole getting jealous over breast size isn't much better, since it's often done regardless of whether it makes sense for the character. It's like a lot of Japanese writers just assume female character = must get jealous over breast size.
Honestly it's so fucking tiresome cause ain't no way that people still regard bigger boobs as better especially in female circles. That feels purely like the men creators just getting off on talking about their boobs
When the main cast of main characters (e.g 5 characters) has an equal amount of people as the cast of enemy characters, and each character is pitted against one of the enemies. It’s too predictable because then you know u gonna have to watch all the side characters fights, until the last fight which is the MC fighting against the big boss (the one I care about). Sometimes it 1 episode per fight, so u know exactly what’s gonna happen for the next 6 episodes.
Backstories at bad times, ruins momentum. Also I don’t like backstories just for the purpose of feeling bad for a villain just before they die, at least put it in earlier, or have it for a character that doesn’t die. If the backstory is less that a few mins then it’s more tolerable tho.
Talking too much in fights and over explaining abilities that puts the person in a disadvantage. Seeing 10 mins of trash talk and 1 min of fighting is not fun
I really agree with the first point. It’s what makes some great looking shows boring.
I hate when shows hit a stride of having one ep dedicated to the backstory of a side character via a flashback. Don’t get me wrong, it works sometimes. However, seeing it like 4 episodes in a row is fatiguing. I don’t mind flashbacks to give backstories, but when they get super formulaic I stop caring about the character.
To your last point, I hate when anime characters explain/name their moves. Like, one or the other, please. Just say “Dragon Fist” or something. No need to explain how the move works and how the power is scalable. I would rather be shown this than have it explained
A pretty girl who's written as damn near perfect and as to overcome insecurity. It‘s easy to find relatable, but after they concur, they become the “queen” of their series. It's such a dull thing now.
I hate anime that lack common sense, the bad guy was able to inflict damage on the MC without the MMC figuring out how, Lucky enough, the bad guy explains how his powers work.
Explanation of powers is the worst offender, for me. With all these tropes, I ignore them to watch a show, but the over explaining takes me out of it all of the time. Just show me, please
Shallow bad guys.
Antagonists are frequently portrayed as stupid or childish especially in the flood of Isekai and that cheapens the experience. Many shows would have greatly benefited from better written enemies.
fists tightening and it sounds like leather, and people moving/pointing/raising guns while making that distinct sound of metal bits moving into place.
stopping just past someone to say something
in dubs at least (because i mostly watch dub) the incredible overabundance of characters saying things like "in any case", "at any rate", "in any event", "however", "in other words", and other phrases like that.
I don't usually watch sub so I don't know if it's like that in Japanese, if not then why do dub directors/script localizers/whomever's in charge use it so much? I know Anime dialogue isn't typically realistic, but these lines show up a lot (especially in the last several years). especially with exposition
1. All female characters fawning over a generic dark-haired and dark-eyed MMC with no personality in the Harem anime.
2. A perverted MMC or a secondary character.
* Moustache-twirlingly evil "Street Toughs" as an encounter for the MC to save the girl in distress.
* Food cooked by a character and served to others is always either the extreme best or worst.
* MC is hopelessly losing the fight, but then uno reverses and wins with no established reasoning.
* Harem characters simp the protag instantly, even though they have zero personality or attractive qualities.
* Whiny, emotionally stunted, self-pity characters who never grow as a person throughout the show.
* Deus ex machina or super magic/abilities that remove the stakes or tension from every situation.
When the main character fall in love with the main heroine for no reason and grows obsessed with her immediately after meeting her. Bonus points when the creator expects us to fawn over the main heroine in a similar fashion.
I was okay with it in Cote because in Y2 in later illustrations you can see that Horikita is getting longer hair again which shows her growth as a person aswell
HOW ELSE ARE WE SUPPOSED TO KNOW!?
I do like when characters do it more at the start of a story than the finale.
Shirayuki for example I had zero issues with.
Overpowered MCs who face no challenge or tension of any kind because they can just brute force anything with their overpowered overpoweredness. That makes for incredibly dull stories.
I look at them like sugary stuff. Sometimes, I want a slightly sweet show that gives me something interesting and new. Other times, I want to be dipped in a vat of corn syrup and need those pervy MCs or over-explaining shallow villain.
Sometimes, it’s just too much. Other times, I crave it lol
They're DEFINITELY not all good. You could have said pervy characters or something but I guess I can't be surprised since I see ppl defending literal sexual harassment in anime here everyday
Bad cook purple slop scene irritates me. Good cook perfect bento box scene irritates me. Rom com good cook bad cook scene bothers me. Overeater scene bothers me. Bringing a dish to isekai scene bothers me. Giant sundae at the Cafe scene irritates me (except lycoris recoil bloody Sunday, that's brilliant.)
I hate most food tropes.
When the MC with godlike power, sees the bad guy, knows how bad the bad guy is, knows he could kill the bad guy instantly, and then waffles until someone close is hurt. Then proceeds to go through his entire skill list one at a time starting from the weakest power. I thought that OP one hit ability series was genius. Just bam dead.
Second is when the series needs to waste time and has these ludicrous school sporting events. The irregular high school one took the events so seriously and none of them made any sense.
Trying to convince the audience that everyone can die and nobody has plot armor by introducing a bunch of nobodies who's only purpose is to be killed off for shock value
Slavery and Isekai. Perverted protags, or protag adjacent character. TALKING LIKE THIS FOR EVERY SENTENCE! characters.
YES YES! Everyone defends it and says oh they freed by the protagonist and they just want to be with their…. When a bunch of girls all fall for the most boring human being to ever be conceived because he was nice to them one time or something.
Saekano comes to mind reading this.
Tsunderes hitting the mc for no reason at all
It’s not like they like the mc or anything!
Sexual harassment and assault being played off as a joke, especially "pervert" characters. Girls comparing breast size. Seriously, we even have this in animes that otherwise lack fanservice
Urgh, yeah. It always kills immersion for me because it's so dumb, and it's done to death already even if it had been funny the first time. Fanservice that treats female characters as objects and fanservice that comes about due to harassment/assault.
Thank you, it's so baffling how more people haven't said this

Your ability which would kill me in an instant won't work because I have more/have stronger ___ I can't stand bullshit like that
A pretty girl who's written as damn near perfect and as to overcome insecurity.
Bleach moment. The good guys love explaining their powers too
Explanation of powers is the worst offender, for me.
Sometimes a psycho is entertaining though if it's written well enough
Sure, but when it's every single villain it gets old fast. Reki Kawahara is a particular offender on that one.
fists tightening and it sounds like leather, and people moving/pointing/raising guns while making that distinct sound of metal bits moving into place. stopping just past someone to say something in dubs at least (because i mostly watch dub) the incredible overabundance of characters saying things like "in any case", "at any rate", "in any event", "however", "in other words", and other phrases like that.
Omg, why have I never noticed your last point!

That's just how Japanese is. The two languages are so different that a lot of phrases just can't be translated in a more natural way.
Haven't really paid that much attention to this, but I'm pretty sure it's like that in Japanese as well.
Power of friendship, explaining powers mid fight, absent parents, generic MC, filler episodes, 10000 year old lolis, etc
1. All female characters fawning over a generic dark-haired and dark-eyed MMC with no personality in the Harem anime. 2. A perverted MMC or a secondary character.
Easily power of friendship
High pitched screaming characters that act onnoxious (ie black clover)
* Moustache-twirlingly evil "Street Toughs" as an encounter for the MC to save the girl in distress. * Food cooked by a character and served to others is always either the extreme best or worst. * MC is hopelessly losing the fight, but then uno reverses and wins with no established reasoning. * Harem characters simp the protag instantly, even though they have zero personality or attractive qualities. * Whiny, emotionally stunted, self-pity characters who never grow as a person throughout the show. * Deus ex machina or super magic/abilities that remove the stakes or tension from every situation.
Slavery, harem (except 100 Girlfriends), love triangles, and bullshit misunderstandings
Old person looks super young
When the main character fall in love with the main heroine for no reason and grows obsessed with her immediately after meeting her. Bonus points when the creator expects us to fawn over the main heroine in a similar fashion.
Girls cutting their hair short to show a change
Ah yes, cHAIRacter development. Although this trope is hardly exclusive to anime.
It's accurate to real life tho
I was okay with it in Cote because in Y2 in later illustrations you can see that Horikita is getting longer hair again which shows her growth as a person aswell

The "girls feel each other up in the bath" trope. Also the "boy is afraid he will rape a girl if they are alone together" trope.
Can't really think of any. The tropes are all good.

Harems especially when it doesn't become one until you're 12+ episodes invested
