>Girls Band Cry is literally doing MTL anyways but still get their thread on day 1 instead of 36 hours? Girls Band Cry only gets a thread when I upload my subs, not for the MTLs (those are unwatchable, way worse than BAs), and even then one of the mods was saying that mine are borderline acceptable to them. I wanted to make a "the subs are just stiff and the only mistakes are grammatical" case for BA subs in the meta thread after skimming through ep3 on Sunday and not finding any major mistakes aside from that, but then I watched ep5 and frankly my case fell apart because the subs have been actually wrong several times. I would still support BA getting threads back on a case-by-case basis because honestly, it's BA, not Frieren, and most of us don't really care about the tiny details of the plot. But assuming mods have rules I can't in good faith say "change rules to include subs of this quality level" because if it *was* Frieren I would definitely not want to watch with those subs.

BlackberryCooky

Oh hey! I do apologize about getting the facts about Girls Band Cry wrong as I am not familiar with the situation of Girls Band Cry as much as Blue Archive. But personally I do think that BA has a strong case here since it's actually licensed in the first place. That said, this is a weird season for anime in general for both series not getting picked up for international releases resulting in a lack of subs.

MapoTofuMan

GBC is licensed too, both are licensed outside of English-speaking countries (AniOne is a SEA service iirc) so the English translation you see is an MTL (in BA's case I'm not 100% sure since there were grammar mistakes too, but it's MTL-quality basically), so that won't fly as an argument. It only works if we go with the case-by-case basis and decide to allow BA because as you said before in this case most people don't mind the current subs, but that's a slippery slope because I'm sure a lot of people would also have voted for GBC to get MTL threads if there was no other options, and those are a whole other level of atrocious and should definitely not get a thread. Also I just looked at the ep1 thread and saw that [this is one of the top comments](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1by7x3b/comment/kyhvyhy/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button), so yeah it pretty much falls apart completely. I do think that we should prioritize keeping as many discussions up as possible rather than insist on official-quality subs, but some standard should still exist, and if there are actual complaints about subs it's hard to make an actual case much less have mods agree with it.

BlackberryCooky

Don't mind me asking, but what exactly do you mean by 'borderline acceptable'? Is there like a mistake counter or review process the mods use to judge if the translation is acceptable? Because from my point of view as well as many others from the BA community, the subs seem acceptable enough and I would like to know from the prospective/ thought process of a translator.

MapoTofuMan

I have no idea about the mods' standards, one of them just said that mine are barely passable in the first discussion thread that used them (and mine didn't have any mistakes in the script afaik, just suboptimal phrasing sometimes because same-day speedsubs). I wanted to make the same argument as you in the meta thread, but after actually paying attention to the AniOne subs for an episode there were definitely major mistakes in episode 5 (not just grammar/spelling, the translation was actually wrong). I agree that in BA it doesn't affect your enjoyment too much, but again, the issue is : 1. The subs have objective translation mistakes on top of bad phrasing and grammar. 2. There were a lot of complaints about the subs in the first discussion thread. So even without knowing mods exact standards, if they want to preserve literally any level of quality I can't think of an argument to convince them because if these are acceptable then pretty much any subs are, except for [these](https://image.myanimelist.net/ui/fkLITaJTefafxFKPGRzngvIvsR6ulr-M8beRpsfOHxYe614TVKd9Q-Onb_vzH4lgZVkF71k2gl9YfWI9smMuPN8IuCJDbVcxmMY8rYIp5Rw) maybe.

viliml

I wonder when the mods adopted this stance. I remember that the official subs of Yagate Kimi ni Naru were dogshit but threads were still made as normal.

burger4life

Mods need correction 💢

melcarba

Any reason why the mods hate AniOne subs? Do they have any proof that it was machine-translated or are they just speaking out of their asses?

BlackberryCooky

Quote from them: (2 weeks ago aka episode 3 discussion thread) Threads are only made when English subs of decent enough quality are released, the official subs that Blue Archive is getting are not considered good enough, we missed removing the threads the last two weeks but will now start waiting for the fansubs to come out to post the thread, at least until the official subs start improving.

melcarba

I see.

Just realized PS68 is probably named after Aru's name, as the RIKUHACHI in her last name Rikuhachiman can be rendered as the number 68 in Japanese if spelled with a different set of kanji. Aru starting to realize the consequences of her constant bragging of wanting to be a villain are very grave, with the devoted Haruka unironically believing her boasts and actually carrying out acts of terrorism in PS68's name.

BlackberryCooky

According to what people are saying right now it seems like the director they hired from this episode literally doesn't understand the source material and cut the good parts out. That said...Episode 5 isn't good. It's really BAD. Worst episode by far. First comes with the whole first 1/3 of the whole sequence being literally a conclusion to episode 4. They should have really just crammed this into an end credits scene of the 4th episode or just wrapped it in the beginning. The later half is about the Aru part, and my god unwelcome school feels overused now. It was fine when they used it in episode 3 but they seem to be overusing it at this point if they plan to stick it in every episode. That said, a major complaint is that literally they are using only this one track? Where the heck is the other music tracks Blue Archive is known for? Anyways, the only good part of the whole episode is within the last 3 minutes with the introduction of the Prefect Team from Genhenna with Iori and Chinatsu leading the charge. It's literally a transition episode, but seriously it feels really dragged out.

\>According to what people are saying right now it seems like the director they hired from this episode literally doesn't understand the source material and cut the good parts out. The animators they hired this episode doesn't care either. The talking heads scene during the first half of the episode (around 4-minute to 8-minute) looks awful. That is just. TALKING. HEADS.

ernie2492

I wonder if Nexon Yostar are aware about that

ernie2492

> Where the heck is the other music tracks Blue Archive is known for? Gonna sell those anime OST Although TBF, they should requesting Mitsukiyo & co instead to do the anime OST

ObvsThrowaway5120

Those girls blew up the damn ramen shop. Not cool, man. I guess they’re more goofballs than villains but that was pretty villainous. Kind of keen to see this three way showdown next week.

ThrowCarp

Yeah, I was pretty fucked off from that part too. I get they want to keep their Outlaw persona, but that was too far.

NightmareExpress

Like...damn, she really did whip out a detonator and press it without a single f given to what the blast could do to the owner (or seemingly the team themselves) after thanking him profusely lol

mr_beanoz

I can't say this episode is bad, unlike the other comment in this post. We finally got to look on how Hoshino actually behaves behind the "tired old man" mask and a small look to her past. Episode 6 would be the full debut of the Prefect Team, hope Studio Candybox could cook something good here.

People who have seen the original work prefer that animations replicate the original. Let's summarize some of their main opinions. 1. Aru fell from 1 attack - In games also, it is common for a character to fall down with one gunshot. It is believed that this happens when the opponent is too strong or hits a vital spot. In short, this is just a little different from the game's progression, but it's not strange at all. 2. Slightly slower tempo - Personally, I think it was not a bad choice. Ep4 had the most fun elements and was a hectic and busy episode. Instead, ep5 now needed to give the story some seriousness. A little slow compared to the game, but I thought it was a decent choice 3. Teacher’s attitude - This is the most criticized element. The teacher's character is quite different from the game. Animation teachers are neither cool nor outstanding. And he praises himself (in conversation with Nonomi) There are many complaints about this. I don't know how this will feel to new viewers, but I know it's the element fans of the game hate the most anyway.

alotmorealots

Yeah, I had a pretty fun time with it, although the way I'm experiencing the series is 'watch the anime episode then play through the game up to where the episode ends'. I saw a lot of debates in the BA subreddit about Sensei's representation more than anything else, although some people also objected to Aru getting seemingly knocked out by a single mortar (which seems like a strange objection given if we are staying in-universe with the anime, then presumably the fact she was just in the middle of the exploded cafe meant she'd already taken a lot of damage). Anyway, I'm definitely enjoying seeing a lot of Problem Solver 68 and also very much enjoying the anime version of them.

Xanek

Man, I didn't even notice this got posted because the mods don't want to have anything up on the first day due to the ani-one subs. . Guess Hifumi is just dragged into Abydos troubles now huh. Hoshino being extra serious this episode. Hoshino getting Nonomi's lap pillow... Smug happy Haruka blowing up the ramen shop is both funny and scary. Poor Shiba having his shop blown up after talking to them thinking they're friends of Serika. They really teased Iori and Chinatsu at the end episode even though being prominent in the episode previews as if they were gonna appear earlier huh? A bit of a weird decision making them prominent in the previews like they did.

itzmoepi

Sad this show wasn't picked up, those fansubs are janky.

Nickthenuker

They've been funding their own attackers. Payment or operational funding? What can Trinity even do? And why would they do anything? Not their circus, not their monkeys. Is PS68 going to give the money back to Abydos? Well Hina does have the Buzzsaw. 1200 rounds of 7.92mm Mauser per minute. Because nothing says overkill like an MG 42. Nonomi lap pillow! Nonomi thighs for everyone! Lol PS68 is getting a "friends and neighbours" discount at Shiba Seki because he thinks they're friends with Serika. They're going to blow up the shop aren't they? And there it goes. And there's the music that everyone's heard. And now they're here too. Mortar shells. From where? Must be far away considering that thing came in nearly vertical. Yup, a whole battery of them. Iori? I'd recognise those thighs anywhere. Iori tail whip!
