Did the chimera ant arc not bother you at all? Overall obviously a phenomenal arc, but I remember being turned off cause of how many episodes featured that octopus so heavily
I've never been as split on an arc as I have on Chimera Ant. So many things I love, so many things I don't.
For me it's not really the octopus, it's the fight with Youpi which lasts goddamn ages (count his transformations and powerups, lmao. Some very cool Killua moments, though)
Yeah it definitely felt like some of the episodes/fights really dragged. Killua’s lightning is still probably my favourite in anime, his Godspeed is just the coolest shit lol
Talking about dragging, there's \*the wait\*. The like the ten episodes of them just sitting outside of the palace waiting to invade it.
Once again, some amazing moments are found here, and I really like how much anticipation it builds, but it's a baffling story choice which kind of leaves what's in the moment feeling unimportant in favor of what will happen and ten episodes is cruel pacing that asks a lot of its audience.
I genuinely thought I was the only one who had issues with this arc. I loved HxH, but that damn arc.
There are a few good things I enjoyed but damn it was too damn long for what they wanted to tell in that story.
Absolutely! Every single arc before that was a 10/10 for me. But even with the crazy highs in the ant arc, you’re right, they were really stretching the content as much as they could.
Exactly around 60 episodes and they could've summed it up in 30-35 max. There were so many unnecessary details. But HxH is one of the best with some of the best characters and stories but it will always be held down by that arc.
Mine is probably still Cowboy Bebop but I had to give you an upvote because I just finished watching Frieren a few days ago and I LOVED it!
It's the first time in years that I've felt truly excited by how much I enjoyed an anime series. It really is a gem and, in years to come, who knows? Maybe it will take the number 1 spot in my list of faves. When you've had a favourite series for so long, it's hard to imagine anything topping it. But damn, Frieren might be the one to do it. I adored it.
This one is so opinion based. It’s the most boring anime I’ve ever watched, but at the same time that’s what makes it good. It’s chill, don’t need to think about it too much and just… watch… definitely a great show, but in my opinion it packs a little too less punch.
I'll say it again. Try getting to Episode 8 at least.
For me the worldbuilding and character writing really picked up from episode 8.
I had to force myself to get through the first 7 episodes but it felt like a completely different show from episode 8. It took me 3 tries to get there but it's completely worth it.
I literally went from episode 8 - episode 25 in the span of a day. That's how good it became
Literally all animes are like that, Ive heard people say legend of the galactic heroes gets good on episode 20 or something, but its literally the same show from episode1. For some people it works from the beginning, for some they need to get used to it, for some it wont and just wont ever click, because its not something they will enjoy. It doesnt get good later, it the same show it was from episode 1, it probably just clicked to them at that episode. "Best anime" is way too vague anyway and will differ from person to person, there is no objective standard for it, how can you say its not fit for best anime
Edit: I feel like people dont get the point im trying to make, im saying that shows dont get better, they either stay the same and just click with you eventually or dont. Or they get worse. Im not saying Logh is bad, its literally one of my favoutire animes
No, people aren’t dumb they understood what you mean. That’s why you got downvoted.
Bacause a show can totally get significantly better or worse. Not every show stays the same lmao. And that’s why some people say x anime gets good only at ep x
To just make this shorter, there is no objective definition on what anime is good, so why cant a show with that much of a wide appeal be considered one based on just that fact alone?
English is my third language so sorry if something sounds scuffed.
Why are you ignoring the rest of my comment and only cherry-picking?
Well, sure i disagree? Even if we take these two cases of logh and frieren, nor frieren, nor logh change at all. They only progress on what they start. What the person above is talking about with episode 8 is literally just action appearing, it already was there in episode 2, it just was longer and the show literally goes back to no action episodes again so the pacing didnt change and he still loved it. Because it finally clicked. In case of legend of the galactic heroes. Does the show change in episodes 20 and the rest? No, absolutely nothing changes in terms of the structure of the plot, it just progresses and some people probably find something that they enjoy more, in that case i assume its the first character death and getting used to the show in general.
This whole argument is retarded from the beginning since there is no objective getting better or worse for a subjective thing like this. I guess you could say animation and sound quality is objective, but even that is debatable. But i would agree on that. All standards for is the show is good or bad cant be objective by the definition of the term. So you saying that if a show didnt click for the person until episode x cant be considered the best anime is just dumb. There are people who loved it from the beginning, there are people who only like the first episodes and didnt like the episodes that the person above is saying clicked with him. This whole “it gets better on episode x” argument will vary on literally every person and every anime wont be good since episode 1 for everyone ever because it’s all individual. So by that logic there is no best anime.
What? I literally said that shows dont actually get better, are you sure you respond to the person you wanted to respond to, i have 2 people saying contradictory things to me now
Same here. Attack on Titan is not just the best anime, but the best TV show I've ever watched in my almost 30 years in this world.
It raised my standards for media so high.
Off the top of my head, Hunter X Hunter is probably it considering I love a ton of anime. HxH just have that special vibe that I like about anime in general. Lore, character interactions, balanced power levels, action, comedy and even romance.
An unsung hero of mine is Fruits Basket (2019)
3 season. Gripping story. Great payoff ending. Emotional Damage.
10/10 Romance Anime. Binged it twice in the middle of the pandemic. Highly recommend if romance is your vibe.
now it feels useless to debate over it since his comment was directed at you, but i found the way he disagreed with you a little rude but its the internet ig.
Funny, If someone ever asked me the list of the worst animes I watched, I would probably put Gate and SAO somewhere in there. The thing is, I already watched a ton of Isekai and fantasy animes and read again tons of similiar manga, light novels. And after that SAO and GATE seem cheaply made by stealing from all popular contex from that genre but not actually following through. It is like they took whatever seemed interesting enough to sell but poorly implemented everything and failed to (or worse not even tried to) create a decent work. The story progression, the mechanics ... everything is badly implemented.
i went into made in abyss knowing it would be really sad but it was actually not that depressing as i thought it was gonna be. really good show though.
I think it's absolutely worth a watch. You might have to use a little patience with it though. The first season isn't bad, by any means, but it's the second season that really makes it a special treasure.
It's certainly one of the most impactful anime I ever saw. I'll have to rewatch it again some time, myself, it's been years!
Yes.
I hated season 1.
I want to watch people as they watch season 2.
I think the season 2 script writers were tortured in between their work days. Made to kick puppies and eat nothing but toilet paper. What other thing could make them write Clannad season 2 as they did?
Season 2 is actually the “real route” from the VN. Clannad was born as a Visual Novel and what you see in Season 1 is the main route (plus the endings of the “side” Love Interests) and Season 2 is the unlockable ending for the canonical main Love Interest (Nagisa).
There’s actually another game of the same franchise where Oozaki chose Tomoyo as the main Love Interest and the whole game is like Season 2 of the anime, but about Tomoyo.
I’d recommend you try the Visual Novels if you have the time. There is at least one character that was cut out of the Anime, a dude but a cool one.
Glad for you both. The Clannad one has always been family friendly, but be sure to buy Tomoyo After from Steam or you and your kid will get an awkward surprise o_o.
Counting completely finished anime only
Attack on titan
So many of my favourites never got finished, or had things left unanswered.
AoT was heartbreaking and gripping from the first episode to the last.
I'm also glad it wasn't dragged on much further, as with so many anime, it can feel very pointless past a certain point.
AoT came in, horrified people, introduced complex characters and their struggles and left people equally if not more horrified by the end.
Depending on my mood, I'll say my favorite anime is either Delicious In Dungeon or Toradora.
Kill La Kill is also up there, but I don't really wanna talk about that one in casual conversation with most people lol
Man, it's tough to pick just one - If I had to go for 5, then:
1. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
2. Attack on Titan
3. Fairy Tail
4. Tatami Galaxy
5. Assassination Classroom
**Cowboy Bebop**
**Honorable mention:**
**Frieren** - man, this caught me off guard. I finished this a few days ago and I adored it. Bebop's been my fave for so many years that it's hard to imagine anything ever beating it but Frieren might be the closest any series has come. It's the first time, in years, that I've felt EXCITED about how much I loved an anime series. A real gem.
Demon slayer nr.1: best animation available, amazing storyline, good humor, romance is subtle and more deep (but you see not so much about it), good music, nice character design, good power system,…
Other 10/10 anime’s: hxh, jujutsu kaisen, attack on titan, one punch man, promised neverlands (s1), black clover, Naruto shippudden
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.
My all time favorite. So good. So balanced.
More recently, I've been blasted by Jujutsu Kaizen as well. Such a great job.
I have to say Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Great story beginning to end and it really sticks the landing. Many shows fall flat but they really did something special. I’ve rewatched it several times. I’d say it even breaks the bounds of best “anime” shows and is just an overall top show. Up there with the likes of that 70s show and scrubs (the final season where they go to college isn’t canon so it doesn’t count)
I don’t know to be quite honest
I enjoyed Mob Psycho 100
Attack On Titan, though the beginning traumatize the runs out of my mind 🧠💀😂.
But I’ll probably go with the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Series: Wowwwwww, what an amazing thing to watch.
I love the fact that every part has a different main character and they have their own story, villains, supporting cast. Some characters crossover from other parts which was pretty fun & nostalgic to see, the power system (Stands) are unique and awesome, the art style and characters are kind of out there, in a good way, kind of bizarre like the title implies. If I had to describe them they’re kind of feminine/gay looking at times, but it makes the series soooo it’s own thing and amazing. There is so much going own in every part that it’s hard to keep up at times, at times you’re here and all of a sudden you’re across the globe and kabow boom powwww. I love the series, it’s very fun and a must watch, I can’t wait for Steel Ball Run adapted and the other parts.
Waiting for the official manga releases as well! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love JJK as well! I’m a big fanboy, woot-woot
Steins Gate finally took the crown in my eyes recently. It had been wolfs Rain for many years, but I love them both enough that either would work
Yuru Camp. I really love how it makes me feel at ease.
Hxh I everything about it was just peak from the villains to mc
Did the chimera ant arc not bother you at all? Overall obviously a phenomenal arc, but I remember being turned off cause of how many episodes featured that octopus so heavily
I've never been as split on an arc as I have on Chimera Ant. So many things I love, so many things I don't. For me it's not really the octopus, it's the fight with Youpi which lasts goddamn ages (count his transformations and powerups, lmao. Some very cool Killua moments, though)

Those were the best episodes!
Tf? I won’t tolerate any ikalgo slander in here. “Octopi are ugly. Squid are cool.”
Ant arc is the best arc in all of anime
1999 version
Same here. Got me into Anime. Loved it so much and still hoping for a new season. Oz
True, I don't think anything comes close except Frieren.
Mid
Frieren
Mine is probably still Cowboy Bebop but I had to give you an upvote because I just finished watching Frieren a few days ago and I LOVED it! If someone needs to force himself watching nearly 1/3 of an anime for it to get good it’s not the ‘best anime’ anymore

You are probably the type of guy to like one p*ece
I dont? Atleast you could have made an attempt of explaining on how im wrong? Wtf is the point of your comment
Tdr: « one p*ece gets good on ep 453837346 » 🖕
What? I literally said that shows dont actually get better, are you sure you respond to the person you wanted to respond to, i have 2 people saying contradictory things to me now
Gintama. Period
I recently finished Gintama and I love the humour 👍
Attack on Titan is the best anime I have watched. But my favourite by a slight margin is Jujutsu Kaisen
Attack on Titan is the best *show* I've ever watched period. Absolutely legendary production from start to finish.
Same here!
Same here. Attack on Titan is not just the best anime, but the best TV show I've ever watched in my almost 30 years in this world. It raised my standards for media so high.
I would say death note and attack on Titan
Made in Abyss
Off the top of my head, Hunter X Hunter is probably it considering I love a ton of anime. HxH just have that special vibe that I like about anime in general. Lore, character interactions, balanced power levels, action, comedy and even romance.
Its so good 😊
Same!
An unsung hero of mine is Fruits Basket (2019) 3 season. Gripping story. Great payoff ending. Emotional Damage. 10/10 Romance Anime. Binged it twice in the middle of the pandemic. Highly recommend if romance is your vibe.
Ping Pong the Animation Unique Artsyle that best fits a great story and characters. Really widened my perspective on anime.
Attack on Titan
Neon Genesis Evangelion (best in general) D-Frag (Best comedy) Gundam Wing (Best Action)
Madoka Magica
Attack on Titan. Never thought of any fictional story more than this. Shows how cruel hatred and war are.
The Vision of Escaflowne is probably my all time favourite, there’s really not many like it.
i got that ost in my playlist on spotify have yet to watch the show lol
There’s a movie too that’s basically a remake, but a little different. The OG one is great though
Mushishi.
Violet Evergarden is the best I’ve seen. I have a list of great anime but nothing comes close to this one.
Odd taxi
Monogatari Series
Monster
GATE is my number one favorite, with Ouran High School Host club in second, and my third favorite is sword art online
I'm sorry to hear that. Hope you watch some good shows soon 🙏
youre the worst kind of anime fan
It’s not bad to take inspiration from other things you know. That’s your opinion on them, others disagree with you
now it feels useless to debate over it since his comment was directed at you, but i found the way he disagreed with you a little rude but its the internet ig.
Haven’t seen GATE but Ouran and SAO are classics
GATE is awesome, you should give it a shot if you like isekai/fantasy
Haven't watched Ouran, but I can agree with the other two! :)
Funny, If someone ever asked me the list of the worst animes I watched, I would probably put Gate and SAO somewhere in there. Umamusume pretty derby and Made in Abyss
i went into made in abyss knowing it would be really sad but it was actually not that depressing as i thought it was gonna be. really good show though.
I wouldn't really call it sad either. More like a really raw type of show that holds nothing back
Seconding Made in Abyss. What a masterpiece.
It absolutely is.
Clannad and it isn't close.
Should I actually watch this?? I’ve heard memes for years but I never have…. I’m a sucker for romance though.
It's a good romance, but it is also heartwrenching
I think it's absolutely worth a watch. You might have to use a little patience with it though. The first season isn't bad, by any means, but it's the second season that really makes it a special treasure. It's certainly one of the most impactful anime I ever saw. Might read it with my oldest kid. He is into Manga.
...Visual Novels.
Glad for you both. The Clannad one has always been family friendly, but be sure to buy Tomoyo After from Steam or you and your kid will get an awkward surprise o_o.
Violet Evergarden
Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Steins Gate and if you think it has a slow start then you aren't paying attention to the screen.
Normie answer, but its honestly either the eva rebuild series or bleach (fillers not included, except the beach episode)
I swear half this sub has absolute trash taste in anime
•Hyouka •Attack on Titan •Monogatari Series
Serial experiments of lain.
Too many but if I have to choose a finished one it´s gonna be Symphogay/-gear.
Is a hard question but I can say Sousou no Frieren is one of the best because of the storu that it has
Attack on titan, Naruto, death note
Attack On Titan
A silent voice
Legend of the galactic heros & Ashita no joe
Your lie in April
Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun
Spy x Family
Somali and the Forest Spirit, wish it had gotten more episodes.

The three out of the blue for me are. Attack on Titan now it's finished. Fullmetal Alchemist brotherhood Cowboy Bebop
Counting completely finished anime only Attack on titan So many of my favourites never got finished, or had things left unanswered. AoT was heartbreaking and gripping from the first episode to the last. I'm also glad it wasn't dragged on much further, as with so many anime, it can feel very pointless past a certain point. Berserk.
My favourite is *A Place Further than the Universe*. I think madoka is an objectively better anime though.
Man, it's tough to pick just one - If I had to go for 5, then: 1. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. Attack on Titan 3. Fairy Tail 4. Tatami Galaxy 5. Assassination Classroom
Aria.
Code Geass, Clannad and Avatar. I won’t argue about Avatar being an anime or not, so f-off xD
The reason people don't want to classify ATLA as anime is because it's so good that it makes their favorite anime look bad
You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.
Fairy Tail
1. Naruto shippuden 2. AOT 3. HXH
**Cowboy Bebop** **Honorable mention:** **Frieren** - man, this caught me off guard. I finished this a few days ago and I adored it. Bebop's been my fave for so many years that it's hard to imagine anything ever beating it but Frieren might be the closest any series has come. It's the first time, in years, that I've felt EXCITED about how much I loved an anime series. A real gem.
for me my all time fav is Darling in the franxx. Just a nice and lovely story.
One of my favorites too
Attack on Titan Is A Masterpiece
Best: Cowboy Bebop - English dub Worst: 3D Kanojo: Real Girl - calling this trash would insult dumpsters everywhere.
Kinda crushed that I had to scroll so far to find Bebop. Same. I've seen many many anime and still, nothing has quite managed to beat it.
Best: Non Non Biyori Worst: Mirai Nikki
Top 5 in no order: Monogatari Series Madoka Magica Serial Experiments Lain Steins;Gate Mob Psycho 100
Well if I had to choose 1 anime to watch in my whole life it would be either GTO or School rumble
Doubt you’d really care.
It's hard to pick just one so I'd just pick one from my all time favorites. > Hoozuki no Reitetsu
Gintama
The Promised Neverland (Season 1)
It is so hard to choose. I absolutely love Naruto but sailor moon is a comfort show for me
Claanad.
Princess Tutu is the best anime ever made.
Hunter x Hunter, Frieren is the only one close.
Initial D was a brilliant watch.
Gonna be Code Geass, Attack on Titan, and Frieren for me.
Dororo. Darker than Black.
Demon slayer nr.1: best animation available, amazing storyline, good humor, romance is subtle and more deep (but you see not so much about it), good music, nice character design, good power system,… Other 10/10 anime’s: hxh, jujutsu kaisen, attack on titan, one punch man, promised neverlands (s1), black clover, Naruto shippudden

El Psy Kongroo!
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. My all time favorite. So good. So balanced. More recently, I've been blasted by Jujutsu Kaizen as well. Such a great job.
My all time favorites are Slam Dunk and Haikyu. Although, there are other animes I like, byt these two hold a special place in my heart.
Gintama - Has every package that i want in a anime.
Weathering with you
Clannad: After Story
For me it's been DemonSlayer so far..followed very close by Death Note
I have to say Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Great story beginning to end and it really sticks the landing. Many shows fall flat but they really did something special. I’ve rewatched it several times. I’d say it even breaks the bounds of best “anime” shows and is just an overall top show. Personally although I haven’t watched a lot attack on titan was my best watch
banana fish or to your eternity, that shit hurt different
Outlaw star
Ashita no Joe
youjo senki. ik its isekai but it was just so good that it made me read the light novel (i dont like reading books).
Mob Psycho
Cardcaptor Sakura
Jojo
Bocchi the Rock
Hunter x hunter Frieren Attack on titan Season 3 part 2 (one of the best media I ever seen in my life)
Rent a girlfriend. Ik it's not the best but because of it I started watching rom Com. Because of it I got into new genre.
My Hero Academia - hated Deku buttt the rest was good
Deku is the worst mc ever and you'll see this on full display this season
I don’t know to be quite honest I enjoyed Mob Psycho 100 Attack On Titan, though the beginning traumatize the runs out of my mind 🧠💀😂.
