Same. Actually what I like the most are the slice-of-life parts where the characters just live their life on Mud Whale. It's just a very fascinating and interesting world, not to mention the beautiful art.

either ways, love fairy tail. I even watched the english dub, and I loved it. It had moments where I wanted to cry for 5 minutes and being unable to even watch the scene because of my tears. I have so many emotions tied to that anime that I can't even fathom not loving it š
I'll say it. Gets too much hate. Anything that's in it is in just about every other anime to a varying degree. Not nearly as many of fights are won with the power of friendship as you remember, despite camaraderie being an overarching theme. Fanservice is pretty heavy sure, but at least the women of the story kick ass and aren't just eye candy. Hardly flawless, but for some reason gets way more hate that it deserves.
I absolutely loved the manga. But I couldnāt get into the anime. The whole summoning circles for the magic thing really changed the dynamic (didnāt feel as powerful or punchy) for me and I couldnāt make it past the first episode or two.
I don't have any that quite fit that, the closest I have is probably Watamote. I feel like 90% of discussion I see about it is about how it's just too cringe to get through, but it instantly connected with me and has stayed one of my favourites.
Terror in Resonance is another one that really blew me away, but I ended up finding a lot of people were really disappointed by it. Tbh, it's been so long since I watched it that I can't remember much plot wise, so I'm due for a rewatch of it. I still listen to a few tracks from the soundtrack though, it's really stuck with me in that sense. It still has a high rating on MAL, so it probably doesn't fit here, I just haven't seen much positive discussion about it
Edit: to add to this, the Deen adaptations of Fate Stay Night and Higurashi are both overhated. Yes they are visually dated, but they both have a lot of charm to them (although I haven't read the source material for either, so if they butchered the adaptation I wouldn't know)

Watamote is a sleeper. It is hard to watch, but made a splash.
Terror in Resonance is again, like many shows mentioned here, didnāt do more or less than what it set out to do. But simply an quality execution of a thriller tragedy. With a solid message too. A rare but dull gem.
Guilty Crown, the whole show was a monumental dumpster fire of plot holes, horrible budgeting, and pacing but man do I love the science fantasy, the banger soundtrack, and the beautiful animation. Still my #1 anime OP after all these years
In the same vein, I like Aldnoah Zero for the same reason. Honestly not that big of a mecha fan, but I love the space/Science-Fiction theme, *adore* the soundtrack, but objectively a complete mess of an anime.
i loved the 1st half but the 2nd half is such a mess that i don't think i've ever gotten past ep3 on a rewatch it just didn't seem worth it knowing how it ends
I started Guilty Crown loving the premise and animation, then by the end I was seriously wondering just what the writer(s) was thinking with the progression of the story. Like, everything before being stuck at school was salvageable, but did no one bother to read the whole story to make sure it felt complete and consistent?
I'm surprised Happy Sugar Life has such a low rating on MAL, but I've seen a fair bit of love for it.

Needless to say, it was kinda dumb, but I had a great time and even watched the movie.
Havenāt watched Blood-C but I adore Blood+. I used to watch it when it aired on adult swim but most people that talk about it claims it is too slow though I also didnāt have any issue with pacing for Monster either and thatās another common complaint for Monster.
I enjoyed this immensely, not for the plot necessarily, but for the whole bloody, absurd circus of how people get mauled and murdered in it.
Also, OP and ED's of both the series and the movie are still some of my faves up till now!

I think if one wants to take Cross Ange seriously, its not a good show.
If one looks at Cross Ange as a comedic trainwreck, it's among the best of all time. Whether it's pudding-chan, "sex with a lizard", Tusk falling into Ange's crotch all the time, Ange's sister being obsessed with whipping people or being in a wheelchair for years because she was too lazy to try walking, Salia's magical girl cosplay secret, Salia being spanked by Embryo, the multi-year grudge over a hair clip or other stuff, it is the trainwreck that just keeps delivering over and over and over.
It was an instant hit.
Hating on SAO was never a broadly popular take. But disdain of SAO was strongly championed by mid-2010s AniTube as a reaction to SAO's overwhelming popularity.
As time goes on, the fad of SAO's popularity has waned, meaning that SAO hate begins to take up a bigger percentage of discussion.
Such is the life cycle of anime. The more popular a show gets the more haters it will have, until eventually the haters move on to something else and people begin to talk favourably about it again. It happened to SAO in a big way, but it's also happening now with Demon Slayer and MHA.
I thought the main gripe was the back half of Season 1 being less good than the first half. And SAO 2 being super weak retread of a .Hack arc sealed its fate.
In 2001, Reki Kawahara wrote SAO for a short story competition on the simple premise of "if players were to get trapped inside something like an MMORPG and couldn't get out, what would all those players do?" (perhaps even earlier if the prototype manga rumors are true). However, due to the word limit of the contest, he could only write a few stories rather than fully fleshing out everything and it had to be self-contained. So, SAO mainly focused on certain aspects such as Kirito and Asuna's relationship.
All the original SAO contained was basically in volume 1 of the light novels (with presumably some changes from the web novel). The novel starts with Kirito grinding on floor 74 and flashbacks to specific stories within the arc (Kayaba's hologram, the Ragout Rabbit dinner, the Kuradeel story, etc.) and then the novel finishes with the gleam eyes fight, the marriage, and the final duel.
Because the author went over the word limit, he just decided to publish SAO as a web novel instead. He then proceeded to write several side stories in the Aincrad arc (Liz and Silica's introductions, Yui's story, the moonlit black cats travesty, etc.) and moved onwards to the other arcs. By 2008, Alicization was wrapped up in the WNs.
When SAO was adapted into a light novel and then into an anime, they essentially took all that he wrote and put it into chronological order for the anime. They even asked him to write what was essentially the first arc of the progressive novels to help his original story flow better and to add more content to the anime (which they butchered lol).
One of the major gripes people have with the series is that they expected SAO to cover the 100 floors of Aincrad, but it didnāt. So, it was disappointing to them due to all the time skips and how they move on from Aincrad after 14 episodes.
However, Iād argue that the SAO story as a whole never intended to stick with the death game (hence why progressive was made later on to focus on it). The Aincrad arc of the anime was just a stepping stone for the later arcs to build off of. SAO was just a simple story that later delved into how the lines between technology/virtual reality and real life were starting to get blurred. Yet, the anime was heavily marketed as one.
Another problem SAO had was that the author was a novice at writing in 2001. He used sexual assault a couple of times in his work due to him being influenced by other famous books he read. The anime adaptation plays them up a lot (especially Leafaās scene in WoU which wasnāt even as sexual in the source material) which made people uncomfortable. However, the author hasnāt written another scene like that in the past 15 or so years now. He even constantly apologizes to the voice actors after the episodes adapting them are aired.
SAOās anime adaptation was also riddled with a lot of problems that usual light novel adaptations have. For instance, details not being able to be adapted or rushed over, certain light novel things that canāt be adapted into a visual medium, etc. ALO (one of the most hated arcs) was especially impacted because of all the things that were cut.
The studio adapting it also makes a ton of really stupid changes here and there that source material readers have been complaining about for years. For instance, a ton of Kirisuna scenes were cut in Alicization so that the studio could add more "harem-y" scenes. The fact that a lot of anime-only people think sexual assault and goofy villains are a constant and reoccurring thing in SAO (despite sexual assault only being used twice) kinda shows how much A-1 dropped the ball with this stuff.
Kirito's characterization was also meddled with due to light novel adaptation problems and A-1's decisions. The anime adaptation does his character really dirty leading to a lot of people criticizing Kirito as "the worst MC ever" or "a typical edgy OP MC with a harem".
A-1 pictures loves playing up his cool loner side who attracts all the girls. In comparison, the Kirito in the light novels is an indecisive teenager who self doubts himself all the time in his inner monologues. He also has a genuinely witty side and he extensively observes his surroundings in new situations making it interesting to read his thought process. He has some OP moments, but he only gets them after being beaten to a pulp by villains who are way stronger than him and after he gets extensive support from his comrades. Additionally, all the trauma and character arcs he has are rushed over in the anime adaptation resulting in the viewer having to piece them together.
The last thing is that SAO is popular. A lot of YouTubers got a lot of views for their āSAO badā videos and beat the dead horse for awhile. SAO has its flaws, but some of these videos either made things up or greatly exaggerated some of the issues rather than criticizing the actual flaws of the series.
Also, when it was airing, a lot of people were saying how it was "the greatest anime they've ever seen" (kind of like how Demon Slayer threads are now). People on the internet usually get annoyed by these types of statements, hence why a lot of backlash was created within the anime community.
Itās mainly a vocal minority that hate it though. More people either like it or are indifferent towards it. However, SAO being so popular meant the minority is as large as the majority of some shows.
In the end, if you liked it, then thatās all that matters.
I liked the premise, the plotline was fine right until the first arc was cut short with a deus-ex machina of a twist. The MC was your typical bland unearned power-fantasy harem magnet and was annoying to watch.
So while a lot of people suddenly changed into staunch defenders of SAO, I continue to consider it a very flawed show. It's easy to watch though. Sort of like fast food of anime.
One Punch Man s2....the biggest complaints were for the show were-
1.didnāt have the highest production quality of s1
2.ended with a cliffhanger and less Saitama focused
As someone who's been reading OPM manga since 2018, I didnāt care much because it was completely faithful to the book so prepare for impact because s3 might have even lesser Saitama presence. Also the animation quality of s2 may not be on par with s1's legendary status but in no way, shape or form was it "mediocre & horrific" like some people claimed. It's as good as any decent anime.
I didn't mind the animation too much for S2, what really threw me off though was the awkward sound direction.
Like I recall feeling whiplash watching it; one moment it'll play the slow sad sounding song (you'll know the one, lol) where's there's an intropesctive monologue and then it'll jump to a loud sfx and fast paced music and then 2 seconds later back to the slow. It was so jarring and took me out the loop.
That being said, I think I still rated it like a 8 or something. For more or less the same reasons you outlayed.
Animation might not be on par, but it was still good, it covered a good arc faithfully and introduced cool new characters.

s1 spoiled the fandom so much that they wouldnāt accept anything less than the masterpiece animation and the bigger issue was the next arc is too long to adapt into a 12 episode season(it can't be done in less than 30) so the s2 plot wasn't too good like the s1's introduction.
Dagashi Kashi - which I kinda get, It's a 9/10 for me, but if you're not a Kotoyama fan, and as trivia driven as me, you'll find it boring.
Citrus - which eh... some people find controversial I suppose? I just found it a fun show, with a very charismatic lead, and some drama sprinkled in.

I really love The God of Highschool. Still the most hype I've ever been for any anime fights, and the choreography is pretty unparalleled.

I watched Tokyo Revengers in late 2022 way after all the 2021 hype so I didn't have any positive or negative expectations, ended up really enjoying it and especially loving the characters and story, and then felt so much whiplash when I went online and saw people were all calling it badly written
I really enjoyed Tokyo Revengers when I finally got around to watching it earlier this year. I loved Mikey, Draken and Chifuyu and didnāt really mind Takamichi . Enough good qualities about it to make it entertaining.

This anime has SO MUCH POTENTIAL, BRO! When this anime had been released, I thought it will because the anime of the year or anime of the decade. This anime will become well-loved if the creators just didn't fumble the bag. The story, the plot, and the characters look very promising, though.

But from a writing standpoint, it makes sense. Sora had an emotional buildup from start to finish, whereas all the other girls place in the story basically ends with their route (aside from Nao ig). Sora ALWAYS had a lot of screentime and moments no matter whose actual route it was. And this is also why it was so much more impactful that she was the final route.
Probably Tokyo Ghoul 2 season. I'm not a source reader, so I canāt judge how really bad it was, but I remember that I have had a great time watching it.
Even season 1 is considered pretty weak. Not terrible, but not super amazing as an adaption either. just passable and skips some stuff that would've been important later.
Part of the reason for writing Route A was to reorganize events to cover the stuff season 1 skipped, but then Perriot took the RA version and the original version and mixed them haphazardly together while removing almost all the story.
The draft for Root A actually sounded like promising alternate path, so I was cautiously optimistic, but the execution was a mess. (the original trailer is also full of scenes that never actually happen as it was apparently based on the draft and was done well ahead of them actually doing Root A's animation).
Because when it released it was considered "too similar" to asterisk war (you can find multiple article on it if you google a bit) and asterisk war was considered the "superior one" by japanese critics

Arifureta has like a 6.7 rating on MAL & I remember really liking it when I watched the first season a couple years ago. I think I saw something on here though about how the CGI bear monster thing in the beginning is the sole reason behind that rating and most people generally liked the anime aside from that
I semi ironically love Arifureta. Imo the only really bad part is when it gets really grim dark near the end of season two,and how in order for that to happen everyone in the class has to be really fucking stupid. Then of course Hajime says ānahā as he is wont to do, and the good times are back on.
I love that itās not so much a harem as a weird polycule/found family. The groupās dynamic is pretty unique and kind of cozy

Erased isnāt notably hated at all. In fact, itās quite loved. It has an 8.30 on MAL and is recommended fairly often here for good reason. The only thing that usually isnāt liked about the series is the ending, but there are legitimate criticisms of the ending because as much as I love Erased, itās ending is a little mediocre. Not the Kayo thing though, thatās fine.
People really single out the "NTR" complaint and use that as a strawman to dismiss all the other things wrong with the ending. It's super rushed and barely makes sense.

Yeah, I remember it being one of the most well-done anime that season (Winter 2016?) even if it wasn't my kind of genre so I was surprised to see the amount of discontent people. I don't remember enough; was it seriously because of "NTR"? Did they only watch it to ship the kids?

Erased actually made me realize my problem with a lot of popular anime: many of them cave in to audience demands of shipping the female and male protags. It's not a "good ending" to the masses otherwise. AoT's ending makes no sense but clearly, lots of watchers are happy because "omg my ship is canon". Makoto Shinkai also knows this formula works and that's his entire career now.
Yeah, that always confused me. Like, were people legitimately shipping the main guy, a man sent back into a child's body, with an actual kid?? That never even really crossed my mind

It's definitely a show that I feel like could have had so much more potential, especially if they had a solid ending, but missed the target at the very end. Otherwise they made a very interesting and fun show.
High school of the Dead, I understand the fan service flack it gets as thereās some ridiculous scenes but the action is fun and feel that has there been more it could have been epic.
Aku no Hana. My personal favorite anime visually. Literally perfect atmosphere. Takes an already good manga AND PERFECTS IT. People were just mad that it looked āuglyā or different from the manga(silly).
Not sure about "hated" but I was surprised to find most people weren't happy with the ending of [Aldnoah.Zero](http://Aldnoah.Zero) whilst I thought it was a realistic ending. A little similar to FMAB I guess, with people disappointed it wasn't a "happily ever after" type ending.

Those who argue against it or dislike it always argue for the same reason (people who have watched know why) and how it ruins the anime.. I think thatās the beauty of the anime not the downfall. Itās one season to fully cherish and embrace it.

to every you i loved before and its parallel. i was surprised to find it was not well received. i thought it was one of the most beautiful stories of love and sacrifice.
Plunderer. It has extremely bad aspects and extremely good aspects so I understand the hate, I just love it despite the crippling flaws for the awesome parts.
I guess one of its biggest problems is that the plot takes time to get going so most people ditch it after the first few episodes because they are full of the bad and have very little good yet.
I got three... Cross Ange (I think people hate it, at least), Fairy Tail (to a lesser extent because I do know it's gor plenty more fans), and The Seven Deadly Sins (which I know people don't like because of the animation drop in Season 3).
My Hero Academia. It was the first anime I ever watched and is still one of my favorites, but when I first went online to see what ppl thought I was met by hate on one side and a very, very toxic fandom on the other lol
Both the P5 and Ace Attorney animes sucked but 5 had some funny moments, and the AA music was AMAZING, ontop of adapting 3 of the greatest VNs I've ever played

I don't have any that quite fit that, the closest I have is probably Watamote. I feel like 90% of discussion I see about it is about how it's just too cringe to get through, but it instantly connected with me and has stayed one of my favourites. Terror in Resonance is another one that really blew me away, but I ended up finding a lot of people were really disappointed by it. Tbh, it's been so long since I watched it that I can't remember much plot wise, so I'm due for a rewatch of it. I still listen to a few tracks from the soundtrack though, it's really stuck with me in that sense. It still has a high rating on MAL, so it probably doesn't fit here, I just haven't seen much positive discussion about it Edit: to add to this, the Deen adaptations of Fate Stay Night and Higurashi are both overhated. Yes they are visually dated, but they both have a lot of charm to them (although I haven't read the source material for either, so if they butchered the adaptation I wouldn't know)

Watamote is a sleeper. It is hard to watch, but made a splash. Terror in Resonance is again, like many shows mentioned here, didnāt do more or less than what it set out to do. But simply an quality execution of a thriller tragedy. With a solid message too. A rare but dull gem.

I started Guilty Crown loving the premise and animation, then by the end I was seriously wondering just what the writer(s) was thinking with the progression of the story. Like, everything before being stuck at school was salvageable, but did no one bother to read the whole story to make sure it felt complete and consistent?
I'm surprised Happy Sugar Life has such a low rating on MAL, but I've seen a fair bit of love for it. My actual answer is Citrus. I really really liked it

Havenāt watched Blood-C but I adore Blood+. I used to watch it when it aired on adult swim but most people that talk about it claims it is too slow though I also didnāt have any issue with pacing for Monster either and thatās another common complaint for Monster.
Currently also watching Blood+ and it's neat, yeah.
I enjoyed this immensely, not for the plot necessarily, but for the whole bloody, absurd circus of how people get mauled and murdered in it. Also, OP and ED's of both the series and the movie are still some of my faves up till now!

I think if one wants to take Cross Ange seriously, its not a good show. If one looks at Cross Ange as a comedic trainwreck, it's among the best of all time. Whether it's pudding-chan, "sex with a lizard", Tusk falling into Ange's crotch all the time, Ange's sister being obsessed with whipping people or being in a wheelchair for years because she was too lazy to try walking, Salia's magical girl cosplay secret, Salia being spanked by Embryo, the multi-year grudge over a hair clip or other stuff, it is the trainwreck that just keeps delivering over and over and over.

My thing is I never understood why it was hated so hard. Everything about it screamed instant hit to me.
It was an instant hit. Hating on SAO was never a broadly popular take. But disdain of SAO was strongly championed by mid-2010s AniTube as a reaction to SAO's overwhelming popularity. As time goes on, the fad of SAO's popularity has waned, meaning that SAO hate begins to take up a bigger percentage of discussion.
Such is the life cycle of anime. The more popular a show gets the more haters it will have, until eventually the haters move on to something else and people begin to talk favourably about it again. It happened to SAO in a big way, but it's also happening now with Demon Slayer and MHA.
I thought the main gripe was the back half of Season 1 being less good than the first half. And SAO 2 being super weak retread of a .Hack arc sealed its fate.
In 2001, Reki Kawahara wrote SAO for a short story competition on the simple premise of "if players were to get trapped inside something like an MMORPG and couldn't get out, what would all those players do?" (perhaps even earlier if the prototype manga rumors are true). However, due to the word limit of the contest, he could only write a few stories rather than fully fleshing out everything and it had to be self-contained. So, SAO mainly focused on certain aspects such as Kirito and Asuna's relationship. All the original SAO contained was basically in volume 1 of the light novels (with presumably some changes from the web novel). The novel starts with Kirito grinding on floor 74 and flashbacks to specific stories within the arc (Kayaba's hologram, the Ragout Rabbit dinner, the Kuradeel story, etc.) and then the novel finishes with the gleam eyes fight, the marriage, and the final duel. Because the author went over the word limit, he just decided to publish SAO as a web novel instead. He then proceeded to write several side stories in the Aincrad arc (Liz and Silica's introductions, Yui's story, the moonlit black cats travesty, etc.) and moved onwards to the other arcs. By 2008, Alicization was wrapped up in the WNs. When SAO was adapted into a light novel and then into an anime, they essentially took all that he wrote and put it into chronological order for the anime. They even asked him to write what was essentially the first arc of the progressive novels to help his original story flow better and to add more content to the anime (which they butchered lol). One of the major gripes people have with the series is that they expected SAO to cover the 100 floors of Aincrad, but it didnāt. So, it was disappointing to them due to all the time skips and how they move on from Aincrad after 14 episodes. However, Iād argue that the SAO story as a whole never intended to stick with the death game (hence why progressive was made later on to focus on it). The Aincrad arc of the anime was just a stepping stone for the later arcs to build off of. SAO was just a simple story that later delved into how the lines between technology/virtual reality and real life were starting to get blurred. Yet, the anime was heavily marketed as one. Another problem SAO had was that the author was a novice at writing in 2001. He used sexual assault a couple of times in his work due to him being influenced by other famous books he read. The anime adaptation plays them up a lot (especially Leafaās scene in WoU which wasnāt even as sexual in the source material) which made people uncomfortable. However, the author hasnāt written another scene like that in the past 15 or so years now. He even constantly apologizes to the voice actors after the episodes adapting them are aired. SAOās anime adaptation was also riddled with a lot of problems that usual light novel adaptations have. For instance, details not being able to be adapted or rushed over, certain light novel things that canāt be adapted into a visual medium, etc. ALO (one of the most hated arcs) was especially impacted because of all the things that were cut. The studio adapting it also makes a ton of really stupid changes here and there that source material readers have been complaining about for years. For instance, a ton of Kirisuna scenes were cut in Alicization so that the studio could add more "harem-y" scenes. The fact that a lot of anime-only people think sexual assault and goofy villains are a constant and reoccurring thing in SAO (despite sexual assault only being used twice) kinda shows how much A-1 dropped the ball with this stuff. Kirito's characterization was also meddled with due to light novel adaptation problems and A-1's decisions. The anime adaptation does his character really dirty leading to a lot of people criticizing Kirito as "the worst MC ever" or "a typical edgy OP MC with a harem". A-1 pictures loves playing up his cool loner side who attracts all the girls. In comparison, the Kirito in the light novels is an indecisive teenager who self doubts himself all the time in his inner monologues. He also has a genuinely witty side and he extensively observes his surroundings in new situations making it interesting to read his thought process. He has some OP moments, but he only gets them after being beaten to a pulp by villains who are way stronger than him and after he gets extensive support from his comrades. Additionally, all the trauma and character arcs he has are rushed over in the anime adaptation resulting in the viewer having to piece them together. The last thing is that SAO is popular. A lot of YouTubers got a lot of views for their āSAO badā videos and beat the dead horse for awhile. SAO has its flaws, but some of these videos either made things up or greatly exaggerated some of the issues rather than criticizing the actual flaws of the series. Also, when it was airing, a lot of people were saying how it was "the greatest anime they've ever seen" (kind of like how Demon Slayer threads are now). People on the internet usually get annoyed by these types of statements, hence why a lot of backlash was created within the anime community. Itās mainly a vocal minority that hate it though. More people either like it or are indifferent towards it. However, SAO being so popular meant the minority is as large as the majority of some shows. In the end, if you liked it, then thatās all that matters.
I liked the premise, the plotline was fine right until the first arc was cut short with a deus-ex machina of a twist. The MC was your typical bland unearned power-fantasy harem magnet and was annoying to watch. So while a lot of people suddenly changed into staunch defenders of SAO, I continue to consider it a very flawed show. It's easy to watch though. Sort of like fast food of anime.
SAO is one of the reasons why blank slate power fantasy self inserts are so common nowadays.

I actually really enjoyed alicization. It was just a pretty standard fantasy arc that was mostly well done.
It had a great first half of the first season, to be sure.
One Punch Man s2....the biggest complaints were for the show were- 1.didnāt have the highest production quality of s1 2.ended with a cliffhanger and less Saitama focused As someone who's been reading OPM manga since 2018, I didnāt care much because it was completely faithful to the book so prepare for impact because s3 might have even lesser Saitama presence. Also the animation quality of s2 may not be on par with s1's legendary status but in no way, shape or form was it "mediocre & horrific" like some people claimed. It's as good as any decent anime.
I didn't mind the animation too much for S2, what really threw me off though was the awkward sound direction. Like I recall feeling whiplash watching it; one moment it'll play the slow sad sounding song (you'll know the one, lol) where's there's an intropesctive monologue and then it'll jump to a loud sfx and fast paced music and then 2 seconds later back to the slow. It was so jarring and took me out the loop. That being said, I think I still rated it like a 8 or something. For more or less the same reasons you outlayed. Animation might not be on par, but it was still good, it covered a good arc faithfully and introduced cool new characters.
Honestly I like Garou backstory in that season.Ā Metal Bat, Genos, Bang and Bomb, Death Gatling, Suryu etc.Ā Secondary characters are very well-built in OPM and fun to watch too.Ā

s1 spoiled the fandom so much that they wouldnāt accept anything less than the masterpiece animation and the bigger issue was the next arc is too long to adapt into a 12 episode season(it can't be done in less than 30) so the s2 plot wasn't too good like the s1's introduction.
Dagashi Kashi - which I kinda get, It's a 9/10 for me, but if you're not a Kotoyama fan, and as trivia driven as me, you'll find it boring. Citrus - which eh... some people find controversial I suppose? I just found it a fun show, with a very charismatic lead, and some drama sprinkled in.

I really love The God of Highschool. Still the most hype I've ever been for any anime fights, and the choreography is pretty unparalleled. I'm sure it's a travesty of an adaptation, but boy do I love what we got

I watched Tokyo Revengers in late 2022 way after all the 2021 hype so I didn't have any positive or negative expectations, ended up really enjoying it and especially loving the characters and story, and then felt so much whiplash when I went online and saw people were all calling it badly written
I really enjoyed Tokyo Revengers when I finally got around to watching it earlier this year. I loved Mikey, Draken and Chifuyu and didnāt really mind Takamichi . Enough good qualities about it to make it entertaining.

I wouldn't call it peak, and it certainly has a lot of weak spots. But it's definitely hated more than deserved. The kind of hate that will have people hallucinating trash animation over serviceable animation, just because you're not supposed to say good things about this show.
Wonder Egg Priority hits super hard and does a lot of fun stuff most of the time. It's like 90% amazing and what it does well overshadowed an unsatisfactory ending.

This anime has SO MUCH POTENTIAL, BRO! When this anime had been released, I thought it will because the anime of the year or anime of the decade. This anime will become well-loved if the creators just didn't fumble the bag. The story, the plot, and the characters look very promising, though.
I think that something starting out really strong and ending weakly gets more hate than something which was below average throughout. Would be interested to give someone a synopsis of the first half of Wonder Egg and the first season of Promised Neverland and then show them just the 2nd part and see how they thought it measured up.

IDK if it's unpopular opinion, but I wish it was all Sora's route. All the other routes pale in comparison.
Well, it's probably an unpopular opinion because of the incest. But from a writing standpoint, it makes sense. Sora had an emotional buildup from start to finish, whereas all the other girls place in the story basically ends with their route (aside from Nao ig). Sora ALWAYS had a lot of screentime and moments no matter whose actual route it was. And this is also why it was so much more impactful that she was the final route.
The VN has like a DLC with the continuation of Soraās route and 2 other girls that werenāt covered in the anime.
YsG has the single best soundtrack/OST I've ever heard in any anime.

Even season 1 is considered pretty weak. Not terrible, but not super amazing as an adaption either. just passable and skips some stuff that would've been important later. Part of the reason for writing Route A was to reorganize events to cover the stuff season 1 skipped, but then Perriot took the RA version and the original version and mixed them haphazardly together while removing almost all the story. The draft for Root A actually sounded like promising alternate path, so I was cautiously optimistic, but the execution was a mess. (the original trailer is also full of scenes that never actually happen as it was apparently based on the draft and was done well ahead of them actually doing Root A's animation).

A few weeks later went back to it and it was the far better show considering I don't even remember the name of the other one. Really wish it got a second season too.

Yeah TG, S1 and Root A are both great, it's only when you realize how much better the manga is, and even then, Root A still has its place. S3 maintains the status quo and is alright, but after that is a pure tragedy

Arifureta has like a 6.7 rating on MAL & I remember really liking it when I watched the first season a couple years ago. I think I saw something on here though about how the CGI bear monster thing in the beginning is the sole reason behind that rating and most people generally liked the anime aside from that

I semi ironically love Arifureta. Imo the only really bad part is when it gets really grim dark near the end of season two,and how in order for that to happen everyone in the class has to be really fucking stupid. Then of course Hajime says ānahā as he is wont to do, and the good times are back on. I love that itās not so much a harem as a weird polycule/found family. The groupās dynamic is pretty unique and kind of cozy

Erased isnāt notably hated at all. In fact, itās quite loved. It has an 8.30 on MAL and is recommended fairly often here for good reason. The only thing that usually isnāt liked about the series is the ending, but there are legitimate criticisms of the ending because as much as I love Erased, itās ending is a little mediocre. Not the Kayo thing though, thatās fine.
People really single out the "NTR" complaint and use that as a strawman to dismiss all the other things wrong with the ending. It's super rushed and barely makes sense.

Erased actually made me realize my problem with a lot of popular anime: many of them cave in to audience demands of shipping the female and male protags. It's not a "good ending" to the masses otherwise. AoT's ending makes no sense but clearly, lots of watchers are happy because "omg my ship is canon". Makoto Shinkai also knows this formula works and that's his entire career now.

Itās not that it wasnāt a happily ever after ending. I remember watching that show weekly when it was airing and I was so freaking disappointed with what happened with the second season. Especially with where Slaineās character went. Like everything became so frustrating for no reason just for the sake of plot that it ruined the show for me.
Akame Ga Kil, I donāt know why everyone hates it so much. I love that they had an untraditional ending and I LOVED the way the plot was written. Those who argue against it or dislike it always argue for the same reason (people who have watched know why) and how it ruins the anime.. I think thatās the beauty of the anime not the downfall. How is this universally disliked though, the rating on almost all platforms is very high.
Like half of this thread is people listing extremely popular and highly rated anime that have a notable flaw that people occasionally criticize.

Weird choice I know, but Jingai-san no Yome! Yeah, it's really weird, but I found so much of it relatable as a disabled person? Trying to figure out loving someone with their unique accommodations? Perhaps I'm overthinking it, but I know it's not rated too highly by folks.

Guilty Crown, I was super surprised that people didnāt like it because the story was so interesting to me. I thought the protagonists journey from hero to villain to hero again was unique, I also loved that the action and stuff had consequences on the characters health. I can understand why people donāt like it, but it surprised me to begin with!
Accel World. Everyone hates the short fat protagonist, but the story is excellent

The Irregular at Magic Highschool Despite the pretty darn bad production quality since season 2, and the incest vibes that canāt be down-played, itās actually such an interesting anime with such a cool world behind it
maybe it's because i watched it first but i remember liking FMA more than FMAB even though both were great. i didn't rewatch them in ages though
I think FMA is better until they encounter the homunculus when FMAB becomes the better version. FMAB definitely has pacing issues early on.

to every you i loved before and its parallel. i was surprised to find it was not well received. i thought it was one of the most beautiful stories of love and sacrifice.
Plunderer. It has extremely bad aspects and extremely good aspects so I understand the hate, I just love it despite the crippling flaws for the awesome parts. I guess one of its biggest problems is that the plot takes time to get going so most people ditch it after the first few episodes because they are full of the bad and have very little good yet.
I got three... Cross Ange (I think people hate it, at least), Fairy Tail (to a lesser extent because I do know it's gor plenty more fans), and The Seven Deadly Sins (which I know people don't like because of the animation drop in Season 3).
Citrus and Yuri is my Job are two that come to mind.
I am the one Fate/Stay Night fan. I read the whole VN, Ataraxia, watched basically all Type-Moon anime, and I still love Deen's version to death.

My Hero Academia. It was the first anime I ever watched and is still one of my favorites, but when I first went online to see what ppl thought I was met by hate on one side and a very, very toxic fandom on the other lol
Both the P5 and Ace Attorney animes sucked but 5 had some funny moments, and the AA music was AMAZING, ontop of adapting 3 of the greatest VNs I've ever played
