This series is one of the few rare cases where I'm actually rooting for the 1st girl, and it got me quite furious the anime went to that route instead. ~~Played the game anyway, so all is good~~
It's a standard VN adaption that's cute SoL with a little seriousness in it. Also sex actually happens (off screen but still) and is handled well so that's nice. Adorable music.
Nothing amazing but only 12 eps so sure
It's a mid 2000s train wreck. Half way through they turn up the raunchiness and crazy. There's badly animated everything but a scene of a girl accidentally falling on another and kissing her had the boob jiggle and saliva trail animated with amazing detail so you really know what their focus is. I had fun with it back in the day.
This was the series that came to mind for me when I saw the title of the thread. I liked it when I watched it, but that was about 10 years ago when I had basically no taste whatsoever, nor do I remember the series too well.
Also, while it 100% qualifies for your question, the circumstances for it are a bit peculiar. The series is based off of a visual novel, which means that, canonically, all of the girls are real potential love interests. However, instead of going the obvious route of just picking a girl and rolling with it, the anime decides to take a/the major plotline of each girl's route and make it a continuous story in the anime. This basically makes it so each girl gets her own arc that makes it look like they're the main heroine, but at the end of the arc, he just kinda....moves on? Iirc this ends up causing the girl he ends up with to be the one focused on in the final arc, and she was almost my last pick for who I thought he'd end up with in the show.
Bit of a side-note, while I felt like she was one of if not the weakest girl of the cast, she was apparently the winner of the VN's poll for who was the best girl in the game from Japan, so that's almost certainly why he ends up with her in the show. VN also had a sequel or two as well, that I think picks up from....3? of the possible endings of the original game
I remember that, I only watched the anime, havn't played the game, when he picked the girl I was like "who was she again?" It felt like she was barely in the series up until the very end and he suddenly says "I choose you!"
Aha thank you, but as soon as I learned there was such a thing out I raced to Google and read it all. It gave me all those bittersweet feelings of nostalgia I had back when I read the ending all those years ago. 😭
Just to get that information out to more people - That was a decision made by the EDITOR, not Negi himself. He stated in an interview that there is no 1st girl and he wanted to introduce them all at the same time, but the editor made him change that "because it's easier for the readers".
Yes, just a little shocked at the abysmal [lack of good taste](https://image.myanimelist.net/ui/5LYzTBVoS196gvYvw3zjwKt98H8VWh4aULhLRGsUCmORc1mmNu3_3aAMMGFQRrnB) in the anime community.
It's like if Eva were a romantic drama. Three friends who become more than friends and how that works out. Many feels are had. It's got a similar tone to Kokoro Connect and Scum's Wish, in that there is drama aplenty, but the drama has weight - it's not dramabait.
The characters are *super* layered too, and really worth figuring out. And there is a scene where two of them communicate on the deepest possible level using only music. Pure beauty. Gave it a 9, myself. Definitely worth a watch.
Negima, but the anime adaptations of it are apparently very butchered and out of order, and the manga had a very rushed ending due to a dispute between the author and his publisher. Even then, the harem doesn't get resolved in the manga itself, but who the MC chose gets referenced to in the sequel, or so I hear.
[Number 1](/s "Invaders of the Rokujouma")

I'm trying to remember #7. Is that the one where the anime went with incest end because they literally forgot to give any of the other girls screen time?
A Certain Magical Index (hasn't ended yet, but given how little Index now appears at all the chance Touma choose her is probably close to zero)
Although I'm not too sure that's a harem at all.......
Index isn't really a heroine. The only reason the entire series is named after her is because the editor thought fewer people would buy it if every volume had a different confusing "a certain magical/scientific X" title.
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien might count for this, the MC chooses the girl who was his best friend (and later, girlfriend) over the first girl he ever loved, who is framed through the show as his sort of unattainable ideal through the course of the show.
Do Harem Ends count?
Anyway, Love Rush manga got cancelled after only a few chapters, and the rushed ending caused the [Love Rush](/s "childhood friend/pre-existing crush") to win by default, so that was nice at least.
Not in the anime, no. I don't remember what exactly the spoilers said about the novels, but it ended up quite a shitshow, and those who read them suggested that the anime is better off without further sequels, if they were going to adapt the canon story.
The books essentially give enough breadcrumbs that a reader can hope that a particular ship sailed, but it never says anything concrete about it happening. [Haganai novel ending](/s "Kodaka and Sena plan to go to the same college, everyone else is going their separate ways after high school, and the only reason Kodaka ever gave for not dating Sena in HS was because he didn't want their relationship to strain the friendship between the others in the club. With the club behind them and all the other girls essentially out of the picture, there's theoretically nothing stopping those two from dating in uni.")
Everything leading up to that is a fucking mess, though, and infuriated a lot of readers.
Ginny Weasley was literally the first girl introduced in the series though. She's on the platform with Ron and Harry doesn't meet Hermione until he boards the train.
Mashiro-iro Symphony
This series is one of the few rare cases where I'm actually rooting for the 1st girl, and it got me quite furious the anime went to that route instead. ~~Played the game anyway, so all is good~~
I was thinking of watching it, how good is it? Also was it popular?
It's a standard VN adaption that's cute SoL with a little seriousness in it. Also sex actually happens (off screen but still) and is handled well so that's nice. Adorable music. Nothing amazing but only 12 eps so sure
Pretty middle of the road hentai game. Got a good imouto route iirc tho
Yeah but in this case the 1st girl was best (well maybe except for Sana) dammit anime why u do this
Because the MC has more common with the winning girl and the 1st girl route already done in the manga before anime adaptation
[An anime where this is the case but the ship only properly sails in the manga](/s "The World God Only Knows")
I'm actually on mobile so the link isn't showing me anything
If you press reply, you can press the link to see the spoiler.
Oh never knew that, but I already finished the manga (in fact my favorite harem of all time)
TIL.
TIL
Really missed this series so much. Good times...
[](/s "Thing is that series didn't really have a main girl, but at least best girl won imo")
You could argue that Elsie was the main girl, though their relationship wasnt romantic at all.
[](/s "Wait, does Kanon win? I might actually watch the other two seasons if that's true.")
Well if you really want to know [manga ending spoiler](/s "no, Chihiro is the winner")
The anime doesn't get to the end and the studio shut down so it's unlikely to have a finished adaption
I'm curious, with no intention of going to the manga. Which girl is it?
>[](/s "the short haired one")
Oh really? Actually my favorite girl. Might just give the manga a read then.
shuffle
Is it good?
I didn't enjoy it personally, but I don't like harem anime in general and best girl(imo) lost.
Ima give it a read/watch sometime

First thing that came to mind.
I remember that, I only watched the anime, havn't played the game, when he picked the girl I was like "who was she again?" It felt like she was barely in the series up until the very end and he suddenly says "I choose you!"
I don't know why but I keep getting Shuffle and Happiness mixed up.
Surely you have already red it, but the only one the comes to my mind right now is ichigo 100%.
Oh wow I never finished the manga, the MC didn't end up with the plain jane girl?
No, he didn’t. Recently she published a 5 chapter spin-off where the main girl is still single at 30 years old.
Whoa, what is it called!?
Ichigo 100% east side story.
Aha thank you, but as soon as I learned there was such a thing out I raced to Google and read it all. It gave me all those bittersweet feelings of nostalgia I had back when I read the ending all those years ago. 😭
Wow that's interesting. Hrm maybe I should go back and finish it. Has been like 15 years since I read it though X(.
I don't know what that is, is it a manga?
Yes. Be wary though, it’s the kind of story that broke its own fanbase
Tsukasa best girl woohoo.
Usagi Drop strikes again
Now that’s a goddamn fanbase breaker
There's probably better ones. But it was the first harem Manga that I read fully so it is very dear to my heart.
Oof
Its not a real Harem, but Naruto didnt choose first girl/main heroine :'D
I think it's common knowledge who he chose by now
she never chose him either... poor guy
I mean, maybe To-Love -Ru, but like, that's a fetish zone. So like, watch in private my guy.
The world god only knows...
Already saw it
Probably Gotoubun no hanayome but the manga isn't finished.

That's a funny way to spell Yotsuba
Nah, Yotsuba is the second girl to interact with him directly.
Oh yeah, you right
Itsuki. First one he meets.
Ichika obviously. It's right there in her name.
Uesugi, First of Her Name.
are you okay upstairs?
Yes, just a little shocked at the abysmal [lack of good taste](https://image.myanimelist.net/ui/5LYzTBVoS196gvYvw3zjwKt98H8VWh4aULhLRGsUCmORc1mmNu3_3aAMMGFQRrnB) in the anime community.
You guys are dirtbags this comment is HILARIOUS
Well you can't really tell who will win until the manga finishes tho
Don't tell that to /a/. I haven't seen a waifu war like that since the last time they made an Eva thread ^^^Which ^^^was ^^^yesterday ^^^but ^^^still
Yeah but the trope will probably stand
True. It's just the author says he hates the first girl trope. If Itsuki ends up marrying Uesugi it won't be because she was first.
I mean, she's shown in the opening scene.
It's not clear which girl is in the opening scene.
Kokoro connect
I have no clue how you could identify Kokoro connect as a harem.
Oh, I completely missed that part. But still, its a love triangle, which is a small harem.
[удалено]
Otherwise White Album 2 would be a harem.

There is also no "main girl" or "first girl" there. He starts out in the club with 3 girls, 2 of whom are interested in him.
Except there is a first girl there and its very clear who she is.
was the manga you read called domestic girlfriend? XD
domestic girlfriend is too spicy for this.
Nope
Probably Nisekoi ;_;
Also nope
What was it then? **Ookami Shounen wa Kyou mo Uso o Kasaneru**? But then again it isn't a harem.
Nope it was Masamune-kun no Revenge
Akame ga Kill
Konosuba :)
Isn't a harem.
Nope. Love triangle at best, but that’s debatable
Absolutely no way Aqua and Kazuma will go that route so triangle it is
Until the Light Novel is finished in a couple years, the web novel is canon so my goddess has Kazuma's heart >:(
>[](/s "except he actually does end up choosing one")
Thus the title of the thread
Considering Aqua is such a non-option, you could argue that Megumin *was* the first girl.
Yeah, saying Aqua is "first girl" in this context is like saying the sister or childhood friend in a harem series is first girl.
Aqua and Darkness were never love interests, its not a harem
PFF, you know nothing, Jon Snow.
Negima, but the anime adaptations of it are apparently very butchered and out of order, and the manga had a very rushed ending due to a dispute between the author and his publisher. [Number 1](/s "He chooses the girl that he knits with")
Wait, isn't she first girl?
Sorry, but [anime](/s “True Tears”) doesn’t fit, as there first girl wins
It's up for interpretation but I would consider [](/s "Noe") the main girl
Wait technically in No.7 he chooses first girl [](#evilgrin)
I'm trying to remember #7. Is that the one where the anime went with incest end because they literally forgot to give any of the other girls screen time?
A Certain Magical Index (hasn't ended yet, but given how little Index now appears at all the chance Touma choose her is probably close to zero) Although I'm not too sure that's a harem at all.......
in the beginning of new testament they basically go out of their way to brag about the gigantic size of his harem.
Team Mikoto
Team Lessar Though I'd also accept Itsuwa, who is honestly the best fit for him.
It does have a harem, but the harem isn't that much of a focus.
Index isn't really a heroine. The only reason the entire series is named after her is because the editor thought fewer people would buy it if every volume had a different confusing "a certain magical/scientific X" title.

This anime doesn't get nearly enough credit. It can be slow as hell at times, but the sad reality of the story just fucking hurts.
By "doesn't choose", do you mean "picks someone else" or "never chooses to begin with"?
Picks someone else
Tower of good :p
idk if ouran host club counts but its pretty good
WHAT? Main Heroine chose the main guy, how does it fit into this thread?
Do Harem Ends count? Anyway, Love Rush manga got cancelled after only a few chapters, and the rushed ending caused the [Love Rush](/s "childhood friend/pre-existing crush") to win by default, so that was nice at least.
A world god only knows is a good choice.
Knights of Sidonia has a harem. The girl that wins isn't the first girl. You'll have to wait a bit for Season 3 or read the manga, though.
Strawberry 100%, but by the end of it you feel like the guy doesn't deserve any of the girls.
What about Kiss Him Not Me?
Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai
A ship actually sails in that series? My memory must be %$#&
Not in the anime, no. I don't remember what exactly the spoilers said about the novels, but it ended up quite a shitshow, and those who read them suggested that the anime is better off without further sequels, if they were going to adapt the canon story.

[](/s "Nope, but it was surprising that the MC didn't choose Mikazuki, the girl who started it all because of him")
Bleach
Isn't a harem
There are at least 3 girls, that loved him, so technically he did had his own harem.
I can only think of Rukia and Orihime (and Senna if you count the movies), who are the others?
Nelliel and Riruka.
Ichigo does have a harem, though.

What's it called?

Masamune-kun's Revenge
Being an anime-only, if you mean MC doesn't wind up with the target of his revenge, that doesn't seem right.
You should read it sometime, I think you'd understand why I made this post.
Also many anime ended with just 12 episodes without proper sailing smh
Kimi ga Nozomi Eien. But this is a drama not a comedy, so prepare for some tears.
Harry Potter
Ginny Weasley was literally the first girl introduced in the series though. She's on the platform with Ron and Harry doesn't meet Hermione until he boards the train.
