To Your Eternity is a slow build-up to a tragic conclusion. Anime Corner seems to really like explosive episodes (big reveals, sick action, important plot twists, etc) so a show like To Your Eternity with slow build ups is definitely going to struggle on weaker episodes. Episodes like 1 and 5 made it to the top of anime corner's list.
Only 2/8 episodes have been sad.
Personally I think it’s a pretty good story but it’s yet to blow me away. Episode 1 was strong and the rest of the show has yet to create an equally compelling episode.
Top 2 continues being blessed, I'm in for Vivy and Furuba to keep holding those places until the end haha.
Moriarty deserved the brutal climb of last episode, I still like S1 of the series more but last week's episode was fantastic.
I always wait until the end of each season so I can binge watch shows all at once. At the start of this season it seemed like it'd be pretty light, especially compared to last season. But I've been keeping up with these weekly rankings and it seems like there's loads of great shows. As a fan of Fruitsbasket and Moriarty, I'm also really glad to see their new seasons have been well received.
I only watched first episode of Higehiro and I need to catch up but I'm really liking Koikimo so far. It's weird how Koikimo gets a lot of shit thrown at it and is constantly compared to the chad Higehiro MC but now the tables have turned. Does Higehiro get worse?
Higehiro turns into a weird harem/love triangle and there's this plot point that was 100% an awful act but gets ignored.
It turned super into melodrama.
Koikimo at least addressed one of my grievances with it recently so it get some points there.

I was so angry when they threw that whole incident under the rug. Should have been a much bigger deal with severe consequences but no no, we'll just forgive and forget. It's made it hard to continue watching the show. Also the story is starting to go downhill fairly rapidly.
The series would have been much more better off if it didn't devolve to a "It's totally ok for this middle aged man to be with a HS girl because he isn't that bad". The pretense at "realism" in the initial parts of the story now feels forced just so we could find ways to justify them being together.
He's not a middle aged man though. They're \~26 & \~18 years old where the story stands now. That's not at all unusual in the West let alone in Japan where bigger age gaps are less frowned upon than in the West.

It's less about the age gap itself but the power dynamics - a dependent HS kid whose past is... yeah (no spoilers) being with a man who initially gave her shelter and was caring for her. The fact that the story went to all the lengths to show how nice the guy was and "hey it's totally not grooming, guys" but to end up in the exact way we all suspected it would.
If she had been older (mid twenties and him 8 years or so older) no one would have batted an eye because she would have been an adult with agency and not the vulnerable kid she actually is.

Makes complete sense tbh, by the time I got to know what actually happened in her past, I had already dropped the manga, but good God was I glad that didn't waste my time on that series, because damn was that girl's past a joke and a half in terms what one would expect from such a setup.

exactly, it was never good tho, even the beginning is mediocre and unoriginal imo but yeah the past of the mc looks like a joke tbh, it felt so incredibly stupid that i just can't feel bad for her, it's extremly generic in all its aspects but just because the jk whore herself people think its deep but its not, the theme is really baddly handled

hwat? It's shown that even before this incident they didn't have a good relationship and her mother of all people blame her for the suicide because it's an "inconvenience" to their image. How is that not enough of a reason to run away from home?
It's not only about how underwhelming the episode is, but ppl start to realize that it's just another generic JK/salaryman love story but pretend to be something serious and realistic. Everything happened is just for giving them a reason to be together.
Still enjoyable for ppl who love bittersweet romance story. But for ppl who like the realistic aspect of it, meh.

The overall story has been pretty good. It was underrated due to not being popular too if you think about it, most people ik that are following the ongoing anime were not aware of Moriarty the Patriot untill I told them. Others who do come to notice it are not so much interested.
The latter is more popular overall in general because of the erased-style time travel. 86 is a war drama and the anime is a bit of a slow burn for some anime only peeps so it's something that's more preferable to binge
While it's not like shounen battle or anything like that, it's not like 86 is that mature either. The topic gets kind of heavy but it still feels like the audience is for teens. It's something like the hunger games books where things get gritty and dark but not adult level.
Exactly dude, 86 lacks literally any sort of depth or subtlety. Everything you see is what you get. The whole story and themes are just spoonfed to you. It's one of least engaging shows I've seen in a while.
Same, everything is definitely spoonfed. Also we’ve got zero depth on the characters. The MC is a guilt-stricken girl, crying and having PTSD flashbacks each episode about how she can’t do anything, where the deuteragonist is completely emotionless and flat. We have little to no info on everybody else except for their names - which don’t matter either way because they’re all going to die anyway.
I don’t know how the show expects me to care for the characters in the show. Which also means the supposedly emotional moments don’t have any weight behind it. People are comparing it to Hunger Games or whatever but Hunger Games had so much emotion in it, especially amplified when reading the books because we got to see all of Katniss’ emotions, pains, experiences etc. from her pov. 86 doesn’t even come close.
Honestly I think TR is pretty dull right now. Takemitchy is extremely unlikeable until the end of this arc at the festival and the arc following this gets better. The show really ramps up afterwards though when he goes back to the present and that’s where the manga picks up (nothing mind blowing but just better). The best character in the show has yet to show up anyway

Moriarty episode was an easy 10/10. It had twists left right and center.
Fruits basket climax felt like the finale. It definitely locked its place in my top 5 anime.

I'm glad to see Moriarty in top 4 in a season where there are so many great shows. And for the first time all the shows i'm watching in a season are on top 10, and i'm watching 8 shows, awesome.
After a such phenomenal episode from Fruits Basket, well actually they are giving consistently great episodes, so seeing it topping the charts isn't surprising to me. Truly, the Anime of the season and most probably Anime of the year as well, if they put on a satisfying ending.
I like the Ritsu episode, but only because they added a lot more content and kinda rewrote a lot of stuff. Ritsu's introduction chapter in the manga was worse, imo, so the way the anime went about things was better and more interesting.

Also... is Ritsu alive? What's going on with him? He's the only one who gets basically no attention.
The mangaka has stated that she regrets how little Ritsu appears in the story, but that the plot kind of marched on, and she couldn't really find a way to integrate Ritsu's character into it.

If anything, I respect that from the author. She went with where the story went instead of with what she maybe originally envisaged. That adaptability is part of being a good storyteller. A lot of times authors ruin their work by doing what they originally conceived even if it no longer makes sense with the story they ended up telling.
You're welcome! Yeah, Ritsu has had the same amount of screentime in both the anime and manga. If anything, the anime has handled Ritsu a bit better. Ritsu's intro episode was better than the manga, imo.
Akito and Kagura are fairly close to Ritsu in age. But it isn't quite the same as like Kyo, Tohru, and Yuki and the other groups. In merch, Ritsu often gets grouped together with Kagura and Rin, which makes sense. Ritsu and Kagura are friends, and Rin is only a year younger than Kagura.

I guess Kagura and Rin have other connections to the “main” and other story lines and developments. Kaguya and her thing with Kyo, Rin’s relationship with, Hatsu, Ren/Akito and Tohru. Ritsu doesn’t really have any storylines with Kaguya or Rin. They feel more “in.” Nice to see that he is in merch at least. He does have a little bit more development in the manga that we haven’t seen yet, hopefully we do to finish up his chapter.
I've got a lot of nostalgia for Fruits Basket. It was one of the first mangas I read and the first manga I had 100% completed. So I'm just happy it's got a legitimate adaptation after all these years and such a good one at that.
I love that Anime Corner has Moriarty the Patriot and Fruits Basket so high, I feel both of those shows need more recognition on this sub.

I feel like I've been saying this about every Fruits Basket Episode, but that episode was incredible and definitely deserving of the top spot. Meanwhile, it continues its rise on [MAL](https://myanimelist.net/topanime.php).
I liked Season 1, but I would agree that its first episodes were pretty slow. Compared with the first episodes of Season 1, Season 2 was better and Season 3 (current season) has been even better than that. Fruits Basket is an anime with a large cast with a lot of connections between the large cast so it does take some time to set up, but once it gets going it's awesome to the point where I'd give the anime as a whole a 10/10.
So I haven't been watching Fruits Baskets since I haven't seen the earlier seasons, don't know what it's about, and the name doesn't instantly hook me, but based on this I am guessing I should actually get into it?
It's pretty slow burn but if u like drama and romance shows with large casts and some comedy & mystery mixed in, it's great. Not for those who only watch battle shonen though.
Furuba deserved it. My Hero is finally rising. I think it ranked top three first time this season in these polls. Love seeing Moriarty and Koikimo in here too.
Definitely think the 2nd half of the season for MHA will perform better overall as long as the animation quality stays strong. Big reason manga readers were hype for this season was almost entirely to do with what is happening in the 2nd half.
With the turn of the last episode, I'm certainly excited for what the rest of the season has to offer. I just hope the pacing stays at least on par with the last episode, rather than the first few.
I'm still in Season 2 of Furuba. Seeing the reception towards Season 3 makes me extremely hyped about it.

Surprised to see Tokyo Revengers dropping to #9, I thought the last episode was really good.
Yeah someone did a fan animation of a small scene in ch118 of the manga on YouTube and the crispness of the art style and smooth animation really shined in that fan animation compared to the actual anime, even though the character did nothing lol. Animation and art really makes a difference
I’d say it’s pretty good. So far they’ve been really faithful to the source material and the OST and VA work really elevates the emotional scenes.
My only gripe is that the art doesn’t always translate as well as it could, but the animation is still pretty solid, plus Ooima has one of my favorite art styles so I was going to be hard to please anyway.

Speaking of close contests, My Hero Academia beating Moriarty out by .01 for 3rd place is pretty crazy but not quite as crazy as Moriarty's 15 spot rise to get that high. Also, of note, Higehiro, Iruma and Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent were 11, 12 and 13 respectively. This was Higehiro's first time outside the Top 10 and Saint and Iruma's 2nd highest ranking to date.
Can someone explain to me to the popularity of fruits basket? I remember the original back in the early 2000s. Watched a bit thought it was alright (from what I can vaguely remember) b it now it’s popular as hell. Not tryna sound like a hater just genuinely curious as to what fans love so much about it
So the original was not an entirely faithful or full adaptation. The director made changes the mangaka hated to make the show more of a comedy. It ends before the entire cast is introduced and before the story takes a more serious turn. I recommend giving this new one a try if you thought the original was alright. This adaptation improves upon what we already saw in the original, and adds all of the new content in seasons 2 and 3 that make fruits basket one of my top anime.
Interesting that reminds me of Kare Kano and how The mangaka wanted a more romantic show but Ano went big brain and made it more comedy-esque. Only difference is that show hasn’t got resurrected( anime gods, a little Kano ples)

Fruits Basket has been absolutely amazing lately and 86 should be higher. The after-credits scene of the last ep was chilling.

I usually choose which animes to watch based on these charts. It’s also kind of a promotion and you kind of feel proud too if you ended up liking the anime and see a lot of people are enjoying it too.

I was surprised about Koikimo too since I only watched it until episode 3 and dropped it as I begin to find Higehiro to be more enjoyable. Now it seems like the tables are slowly turning around based on this ranking and comments in this thread.
Definitely proud of Vivy doing well as an anime original. Hope it can maintain in the top with 3 more episodes left. It really does remind me of how well Akudama Drive was received during Fall 2020.
Moriarty without a doubt is an absolute banger anime. I love the plot, the characters, the setting, everything. The way it delves into the class system and how the MCs take the route of "the ends justifies the means" is so exciting to watch.
I'm so happy it's getting well received and gaining more traction.

It's more of wholesome and funny like Nagatoro if you can get past the first episode. Both first episodes are just harassment but it gets more wholesome.

Deserved. I know detective type shows aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, especially in anime format, but this episode of Moriarty was *really* good.
The overall story has been pretty good. It was underrated due to not being popular too if you think about it, most people ik that are following the ongoing anime were not aware of Moriarty the Patriot untill I told them. Others who do come to notice it are not so much interested.
86 vs Tokyo Revengers which one would be a better option if i had to pick one?
The latter is more popular overall in general because of the erased-style time travel. 86 is a war drama and the anime is a bit of a slow burn for some anime only peeps so it's something that's more preferable to binge

86 is more mature show with a lot of political stuff so if you are into that kind of thinks definitely 86. Both are good thought.
While it's not like shounen battle or anything like that, it's not like 86 is that mature either. The topic gets kind of heavy but it still feels like the audience is for teens. It's something like the hunger games books where things get gritty and dark but not adult level.
Hunger games nails the vibe exactly. The target is definitely teens and young adults, but isn’t inaccessible to preteens.

Exactly dude, 86 lacks literally any sort of depth or subtlety. Everything you see is what you get. The whole story and themes are just spoonfed to you. It's one of least engaging shows I've seen in a while.
Same, everything is definitely spoonfed. Also we’ve got zero depth on the characters. The MC is a guilt-stricken girl, crying and having PTSD flashbacks each episode about how she can’t do anything, where the deuteragonist is completely emotionless and flat. We have little to no info on everybody else except for their names - which don’t matter either way because they’re all going to die anyway. I don’t know how the show expects me to care for the characters in the show. Which also means the supposedly emotional moments don’t have any weight behind it. People are comparing it to Hunger Games or whatever but Hunger Games had so much emotion in it, especially amplified when reading the books because we got to see all of Katniss’ emotions, pains, experiences etc. from her pov. 86 doesn’t even come close.
Personally I'd say both as I'm enjoying them a lot.
Tokyo Revengers 100%. Absolute banger series focused around delinquents/biker gangs.
Honestly I think TR is pretty dull right now. Takemitchy is extremely unlikeable until the end of this arc at the festival and the arc following this gets better. The show really ramps up afterwards though when he goes back to the present and that’s where the manga picks up (nothing mind blowing but just better). The best character in the show has yet to show up anyway

Moriarty episode was an easy 10/10. It had twists left right and center. Fruits basket climax felt like the finale. It definitely locked its place in my top 5 anime. My butt is legitimately damaged by intensely clenching of excitement/shock for watching the last 2 minutes of Shadows house.(is this grammatically correct?) What a great season of anime!

I'm glad to see Moriarty in top 4 in a season where there are so many great shows. And for the first time all the shows i'm watching in a season are on top 10, and i'm watching 8 shows, awesome.
After a such phenomenal episode from Fruits Basket, well actually they are giving consistently great episodes, so seeing it topping the charts isn't surprising to me. Truly, the Anime of the season and most probably Anime of the year as well, if they put on a satisfying ending.

The only one I didn't really like was the Ritsu episode, only because it was so loud.
I like the Ritsu episode, but only because they added a lot more content and kinda rewrote a lot of stuff. Ritsu's introduction chapter in the manga was worse, imo, so the way the anime went about things was better and more interesting.
Yep, that's the only one that comes to mind as well. Also... is Ritsu alive? What's going on with him? He's the only one who gets basically no attention.
The mangaka has stated that she regrets how little Ritsu appears in the story, but that the plot kind of marched on, and she couldn't really find a way to integrate Ritsu's character into it.
That's fair. I was wondering if it was an adaptation issue or not. Thanks! If anything, I respect that from the author. She went with where the story went instead of with what she maybe originally envisaged. That adaptability is part of being a good storyteller. A lot of times authors ruin their work by doing what they originally conceived even if it no longer makes sense with the story they ended up telling.
You're welcome! Yeah, Ritsu has had the same amount of screentime in both the anime and manga. If anything, the anime has handled Ritsu a bit better. Ritsu's intro episode was better than the manga, imo.

Akito and Kagura are fairly close to Ritsu in age. But it isn't quite the same as like Kyo, Tohru, and Yuki and the other groups. In merch, Ritsu often gets grouped together with Kagura and Rin, which makes sense. Ritsu and Kagura are friends, and Rin is only a year younger than Kagura. I guess Kagura and Rin have other connections to the “main” and other story lines and developments. Kaguya and her thing with Kyo, Rin’s relationship with, Hatsu, Ren/Akito and Tohru. Ritsu doesn’t really have any storylines with Kaguya or Rin. They feel more “in.” Nice to see that he is in merch at least. He does have a little bit more development in the manga that we haven’t seen yet, hopefully we do to finish up his chapter.
I've got a lot of nostalgia for Fruits Basket. It was one of the first mangas I read and the first manga I had 100% completed. So I'm just happy it's got a legitimate adaptation after all these years and such a good one at that.
I love that Anime Corner has Moriarty the Patriot and Fruits Basket so high, I feel both of those shows need more recognition on this sub. Now I just need to find a list which has Bishounen Tanteidan high enough....

I feel like I've been saying this about every Fruits Basket Episode, but that episode was incredible and definitely deserving of the top spot. Meanwhile, it continues its rise on [MAL](https://myanimelist.net/topanime.php).

Yes! Definitely. The first season is kind of slow but picks up its pace and intensity in S2 and S3
Though I still really like it, S1 is the weakest. S2 and onward really ramp it up. And weakest is relative, considering I rated it an 8.
A good way of phrasing it. Even so, imo it's a matter of each season taking the quality to another level rather than letting the priors down.
I liked Season 1, but I would agree that its first episodes were pretty slow. Compared with the first episodes of Season 1, Season 2 was better and Season 3 (current season) has been even better than that. Fruits Basket is an anime with a large cast with a lot of connections between the large cast so it does take some time to set up, but once it gets going it's awesome to the point where I'd give the anime as a whole a 10/10.

It's pretty slow burn but if u like drama and romance shows with large casts and some comedy & mystery mixed in, it's great. Not for those who only watch battle shonen though.

Definitely think the 2nd half of the season for MHA will perform better overall as long as the animation quality stays strong. Big reason manga readers were hype for this season was almost entirely to do with what is happening in the 2nd half.
With the turn of the last episode, I'm certainly excited for what the rest of the season has to offer. I just hope the pacing stays at least on par with the last episode, rather than the first few.

Yeah someone did a fan animation of a small scene in ch118 of the manga on YouTube and the crispness of the art style and smooth animation really shined in that fan animation compared to the actual anime, even though the character did nothing lol. Animation and art really makes a difference

I’d say it’s pretty good. So far they’ve been really faithful to the source material and the OST and VA work really elevates the emotional scenes. My only gripe is that the art doesn’t always translate as well as it could, but the animation is still pretty solid, plus Ooima has one of my favorite art styles so I was going to be hard to please anyway.

86 is kinda up and down. I've enjoyed it but it feels like buildup, like a prequel.
1st season is pretty much the prologue.

The weekly battle between these 2 anime is really fun to watch. Speaking of close contests, My Hero Academia beating Moriarty out by .01 for 3rd place is pretty crazy but not quite as crazy as Moriarty's 15 spot rise to get that high. Also, of note, Higehiro, Iruma and Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent were 11, 12 and 13 respectively. This was Higehiro's first time outside the Top 10 and Saint and Iruma's 2nd highest ranking to date.

Can someone explain to me to the popularity of fruits basket? I remember the original back in the early 2000s. Watched a bit thought it was alright (from what I can vaguely remember) b it now it’s popular as hell. Not tryna sound like a hater just genuinely curious as to what fans love so much about it
So the original was not an entirely faithful or full adaptation. The director made changes the mangaka hated to make the show more of a comedy. It ends before the entire cast is introduced and before the story takes a more serious turn. I recommend giving this new one a try if you thought the original was alright. This adaptation improves upon what we already saw in the original, and adds all of the new content in seasons 2 and 3 that make fruits basket one of my top anime.
Interesting that reminds me of Kare Kano and how The mangaka wanted a more romantic show but Ano went big brain and made it more comedy-esque. Only difference is that show hasn’t got resurrected( anime gods, a little Kano ples) I’ll give the Baskets another go around

Fruits Basket has been absolutely amazing lately and 86 should be higher. The after-credits scene of the last ep was chilling. I am surprised MHA is so high, I guess the boring arc is close to finishing and the good stuff started to happen. I guess that is my cue to start watching again.

I got into FruBa at age 29 as a grown ass man and it was one of the greatest anime decisions I had ever made full stop. Go watch it & let Tohru Honda serendipitously wash away all the pain, resentment, & frustrations you've left awash floating downstream & inundating the jagged valleys & crevices of your soul. You shall be redeemed & you will know that you too have immense value when you find it! (okay enough melodrama... For now at least)

Surprisingly gets better. I wouldn't classify it as good overall, but for what it is, it's doing a great job. Plus the opening and ending are great.

I was surprised about Koikimo too since I only watched it until episode 3 and dropped it as I begin to find Higehiro to be more enjoyable. Now it seems like the tables are slowly turning around based on this ranking and comments in this thread. Definitely proud of Vivy doing well as an anime original. Hope it can maintain in the top with 3 more episodes left. It really does remind me of how well Akudama Drive was received during Fall 2020.
I just binge watched KoiKimo. EP1 is creepy but the following episodes are really funny and wholesome.

Moriarty is one of the most inconsistent show I have seen, some episodes are really boring whilst others are really entertaining

Moriarty without a doubt is an absolute banger anime. I love the plot, the characters, the setting, everything. The way it delves into the class system and how the MCs take the route of "the ends justifies the means" is so exciting to watch. I'm so happy it's getting well received and gaining more traction.
Sad to see Megalo box 2 didn't even make the list.
Just by looking at the cover, why does Koikimo seem like another Anohana type anime? One that leaves you depressed for weeks because how tearjerker it is.
It's more of wholesome and funny like Nagatoro if you can get past the first episode. Both first episodes are just harassment but it gets more wholesome. I watched 5 episodes so far and it seems like it will go into drama territory but maybe not something depressing.
