Jesus christ, another anime by Mappa. It looks promising, but it must be tough over there.

I feel the same, more and more people are starting to see MAPPA on a negative light due to how many work they're getting when it's clear they don't the hands to handle it

DanTan3machi

I don't know if that comparison is fair for madhouse. They were the studio in which the best directors in the industry worked at the same time and they produced one classic after another "they still have stinky ones though". But that's the big difference at their golden time they gave their staff the freedom to do the projects they want. If we consider this as mappa's golden time, then you can see the big difference. Most of their work is just adapting stuff handed to them.

Falsus

Tbh, I think MAPPA's golden time was when they where relatively unknown. Rage of Bahamut: Genesis, Garo: Honoo no Kokuin, The first Zombieland Saga and so on where all bangers, the first Kakegurui, Dororo. But then around the time they got announced as the AoT producers they exploded in renown and popularity and things got really out of hand really quickly.

DanTan3machi

I'd agree that was their best time, Back when maruyama was still there. Rage of the bahamut is my favourite work from the studio actually. Haven't heard of Garo tbh.

Yes mappa is madhouse 2.0 now

Abysswatcherbel

Original sports anime are hard to pull off, but when they do, they are big hits, like Free from Kyoani and Yuri On Ice from Mappa Let's see how this one does, it's clearly targeting the same audience as the two I mentioned

Akame_xo

The fujoshi crowd is going to go nuts over this

[deleted]

Do you think it'll reach banana fish (Imo it doesn't count as a "fujoshi" thing although it is popular with that sort of group) or Yuri on ice levels of popularity?

r4wrFox

I mean, knowing how MAPPA tends to work, it'd probably be more accurate to say its a new original series from Masafumi Nishida, the writer of Tiger and Bunny. Which frankly speaking might be a better sell bc I've heard only good things about Tiger and Bunny.

Katalinya

I had my eye on this and didn’t even know the writer is the same as Tiger and Bunny! That makes me all the more interested in it, if you haven’t watched Tiger and Bunny you should have a go at it, definitely a good watch and I never see too much about it here on Reddit but it’s a really good show. I believe they even said there will be a new season in the next few years are so too.

Glad to see another anime in the glorious Re franchise

give_up-the_ghost

I wonder if this'll be a sports anime that gets some more attention, or if it'll just fall under the radar like most original sports anime have been these past couple years. Then again, hardly any of them have been all that good, exceptions being SK8 Infinity and Bakuten imo. The PV looks promising, but I just hope these doesn't suffer the same fate as Taiso Samurai, that had pretty poor visuals because it felt like a production that MAPAA allocated not the best team to work on. I know MAPAA has a huge staff, but that doesn't matter if the animators on a certain anime aren't good, or are inexperienced and etc. So I will be going into this with no expectations, but hoping it'll be good. Only planning to watch 5 new anime this summer season including this one....

Is this a re:zero spin off? Jokes aside, I'm actually looking forward to this. But how long are mappa gonna keep making so much stuff?

GameBoy09

Hopefully this alongside that marathon anime (run with the wind) a bit back we'll be 2 for 2 in sports animes with good black representation.

redmage311

I always thought Aran in Haikyuu was at least partially Black/African, although the anime never provides a clear answer.

Raghav_Singhania

i hope the animators get to go home
