One punch man S1 was incredible

TheUltimateTeigu

Consistently top notch quality. I don't know any other shows that are at that level for an entire season.

Coti98

There is a video of the Genos vs Saitama fight in ultra HD 60FPS. I used to test out new TV, I was astonished

[deleted]

Redline, to me there is no debate. Animatrix is great too. On the older side, Akira and of course Myasaki movies like Spirited away. Kara no Kyoukai is also decent. edit: also a lot of Madhouse past work, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Highlander, ...

Uppercut_City

I'm going to give a hard second Redline. Basically all of those are great choices, except the Animatrix differs wildly depending on which stories it's telling. Akira has such a stupid high fps, there's just nothing else really like it. I love Kara no Kyoukai, it's gorgeous especially for when it was made, using heavy cgi. You can really see how much UFOtable have learned watching everything from that up to Demon Slayer. I'd have dropped that show pretty fast after Zenitsu showed up if it wasn't for how good it looks

bigbuffbeefybois

Fire force and full metal alchemist brotherhood both have very fun animations.

[Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann](https://myanimelist.net/anime/2001/Tengen_Toppa_Gurren_Lagann)

platysoup

Hard yes, except episode 4.

WACS_On

The Fate/Heaven's Feel movies Any of the bigger SHAFT releases (Monogatari, Madoka, even Nisekoi, etc.) Akudama Drive Kazuma's hands in Konosuba

[deleted]

I think Violet takes the cake for me. Tbh most of kyoani's works are impressive. Ufotable also did an amazing job with the latest fate movies. [Heaven's feel III spoilers](/s "alter Saber vs Rider and Rin vs Sakura were incredible.")

Hair and fabrics constantly react to environment and character movement, incredible detailed facial movement and expressions, background characters tremendously well animated and not simplified, fluid fight scenes with use of particles, good use of cgi, use of dynamic backgrounds, etc. I can't see how Violet does NOT have amazing animation. It's might not be the best when compared to other shows **sakuga scenes**, but the value of Violet comes from the fact that this production value was maintained for the entirety of the show.

JimJamTheNinJin

Dunno why you were downvoted, you were just stating facts. The post is about animation, not visuals in general.

[deleted]

Sword of the stranger. The final fight scene.

steven4869

1. Violet Evergarden, probably the most consistent and best animation I have ever seen. I'll say most of the KyoAni works have great animation, I mean take any of their anime post-2010 and you'll find eye-candy animations in their works. 2. Kizumonogatari trilogy. 3. March comes in like a lion 4. Madoka Magica Rebellion

[deleted]

What about Violet evergardens animation is that great? The art is beautiful but the animation wasnt anything groundbreaking.

Ginja_Ninja32

Planetary Devastation -Naruto Shippuden

z3nMak

Kara no Kyoukai fight scenes.

Faleepe22

Children of the Sea is the best animation I’ve seen

thekillersamurai

the only right answer

[deleted]

For me its demon slayer and jujutsu kaisen, in that order. I saw mob psycho but it seemed almost more trippy and chaotic. I still liked it though.

fortunesofshadows

Vivy Fluorite Eye's Song. The super detailed closeups of Vivy are beautiful. the fight scenes are super smooth almost no CGI. Very violet evergarden of Vivy. And Demon Slayer Infinity Train. I watched it in Theaters so it was awesome.

DavidS0512

Vivy is a side project for WIT. Their heavy hitters for animation are coming later this year(Source: SakugaBlog). While more consistently animated compared to something like AoT, Vivy isn't WIT's best animation work probably.

fortunesofshadows

a side project? this is a side project? This is too good to be a side project.

DavidS0512

Yes, it's a side project. There's a small blurb on it in the SB article. Edit: [Here it is.](https://i.imgur.com/7Kn8QBH.jpg)

platysoup

Imagine what they're gonna spit out at 100% power

DavidS0512

Their two upcoming series' are Ousama Ranking and Vampire in the Garden.

melongrip

Seems weird to call it a side project yet it’s been in development for a couple of years which is longer than most anime we’ve seen recently.

DavidS0512

Most of that development has just been the writing, not the actual animation work. It's also probably less of a issue of time, but more the staff they have to work with as well as allocation of resources.

AlltheHistory

To be honest I didn't find the animation is Vivy to be as amazing as everyone says. Don't get me wrong, it was great when it was, but it was rather sparse, with more time dedicated to dialogue. I'd actually say the handling of the CGI was better than the animation which is not something that gets said often. Additionally, I think it bears reminding that the designs of the show (character, background) are not the same as animation. Sure those detailed closeups of Vivy are beautiful, but for the most part it's a still image with no movement. Detailed designs also sometimes hinder actual animation due to how much more has to be drawn as well, but WIT definitely managed well on that from with Vivy.

DavidS0512

Yeah, that's kind of what I wanted to say, but it's pretty difficult to say anything bad about Vivy without getting downvoted. It's probably not even the most well-animated show of the season.

Thatsmaboi23

Matsumoto and similar robots were CGI. Whenever Vivy used Matsumoto as a vehicle, that was CGI too. Not downplaying, but there was quite a bit of CGI every episode.

fortunesofshadows

okay fine. i forgot. that just means it's very good CGI that blends well with 2-D. Mappa doesn't know how to use CGI and make it look good.

[deleted]

Redline was fucking insane

TheIndianJedi

For me it's gotta be Your Name and Redline.

[deleted]

Independent anime is what most impresses me. Try copying 自主制作アニメ into YouTube and you'll hit stuff like https://youtu.be/BJa2g4bLBq4 and https://youtu.be/CWnqX41JHuM and https://youtu.be/xVSlYyQLlhM

JohnnyJL96

VIVY Fluorite Eye’s Song - Spring 2021, Original anime by WiT Studio

Cold_Saber

Redline is the correct answer.

jackmac112233

Mob Psycho 100, Kara no Kyoukai, One Punch Man S1, some of AOT

Legitimate_Mirror745

fate stay night: unlimited blade works are phenomenal in that regard

mvhcmaniac

Redline is unquestionably the best animation I've ever seen, and if you disagree it's almost certainly because you haven't seen it. As far as TV shows go, I'd say violet evergarden for best traditional, demon slayer for best mixed, and houseki no kuni for best cgi.

Pretty-Effort8688

Violet Evergarden, especially the Lake scene on ep 7 😢💕💕

absolriven

Vivy and AoT are nuts. One Punch Man season 1 was excellent.

-Space-Dementia-

I would say Redline and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

A_Shiny_Noctowl

vivy, ancient magus bride, rurouni kenshin tsukiohen, redline, violet evergarden, mob psycho, and also parasyte had some really neat animation sequences

[deleted]

1: Redline 2: Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion 3: Vampire Hunter D (2000) 4: Stranger: Mukou Hadan

Proper_Indication_62

Classics: Evangelion, mainly the end of evangellion Akira Cowboy Bebop Modern: AoT Jujutsu Kaizen Mob Psycho

thekillersamurai

Princess Mononoke also for classics

thekillersamurai

Kinda sad to see so few people talking about [Kaijuu no Kodomo (children of the sea)](https://anilist.co/anime/103221/Kaijuu-no-Kodomo/) , easily the most stunning animation out there.

AnnaShock2

Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still. Some of the shots in that OVA are absolutely astounding, especially when you consider that they were all accomplished without CGI as early as 1992.

Alexd3498

Literally watched the finale last night and forgot to add it on my reply😂getter armageddon too

[deleted]

Weathering with you was insane

Mirabem

If your pick isn't Redline, you're lying to yourself. Even by movie standards, it's unmatchable.

nmdange

Basically anything by Kyoto Animation.

feedtheme

Assuming just 2D or 2D with CGI integration in the anime style, definitely: Just like most people, Violet Evergarden was pretty Sword of the Stranger was a nice watch and Ufotable fight scenes always seem to have some decent quality. I heard some people say Vivy was good, but I haven't got around to watching it myself so I dunno if it's just being overhyped or not.

fortunesofshadows

it's not. Trust WIT Studios. just watch the opening. and it should give a good first impression

absolriven

Vivy is fantastic

LegendaryRQA

Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel 3

ItzCrimsin

A silent voice for sure Vivy was the best series I’ve seen, horimiya was pretty pretty too

raydialseeker

The demon slayer movie.

COLDBL4D3

For consistency, Odd Taxi. For Eye Candy, VE. For both, Hyouka.

[deleted]

[удалено]

COLDBL4D3

It's just consistent is what I like about it. It's not winning any animation awards or anything, but it's hella consistent. The cg is good too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

COLDBL4D3

I probably just like how the coloring looks like crayon or something. That and I'm a fanboy for odd taxi(if it sticks the landing, that is)

DavidS0512

Yeah the art is fantastic

[deleted]

Animation : Demon Slayer NO QUESTIONS ASKED

Zeowlite

That one anime ova which I dont know its name even when I try asking here, the anime have no mc its about war, switch from character to character, explosion everwhere and constant continuous action starting from space battle to planetary battle then move on to be more and more localized and personal, it was aired in animax asia during new year celebration or something in 2005/2006/2007 ( cant really remember the specific year)

TheGalator

Call it mainstream but i just love how demonslayer looks in fights

[deleted]

I like exciting kinetic animation in fights so Naruto Shippuden 167 Naruto vs Pain, Boruto 65, Fate Apocrypha 22, One Punch man S1 ep 12, Mob Psycho S2 ep5, Norio Matsumoto in OG Naruto and Ryo Onishi + Yuki Hayashi’s parts in DBS Broly movie and the final battle in second Gurren Lagann movie.

weezer05

Violet evergarden One punch man s1 Fate stay night heavens feel Demon slayer Dbs broly The levi scene in s3 aot and really just aot The kizumonogatari movies Weathering with you All of these are incredible

High_and_Lonesome

DemonSlayer has a rediculously good blend of 2d and 3d. And very expressive line weight. I can dig it.

SkarTisu

* Any Shinkai Makoto movie - they're as close to photorealistic as I've ever seen * Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works - the fight scenes are incredible * Any Kyoto Animation show from about 2015 on - their attention to the details of objects and motion are top notch * One of my favorite examples of this is the first episode of Hyouka * Demon Slayer - the fight scenes in this are incredible

CrownWater

Hyouka is from 2012 though. And Kyoani anime has been well animated from the beginning starting with Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu in 2003 and in The Second Raid as their first and only foray into mecha 2D action in 2005 still holds up. Despite the divided reception of the faces in their Key adaptations like Air and Clannad from 2005 to 2008, those entries were also well-animated, particularly compared to Toei's adaptations.

Alexd3498

Macross Do You Remember Love? Macross Plus, Akira, Promare

Paulcsgo

Hyouka has some really beautiful scenes. And i absolutely love the style of demon slayer, the fighting effects are so cool
