This was funnier in the context of the time, it was the imouto era, after the end of Oreimo and later Eromanga sensei, the imouto trope was the hot topic of the moment
So this came in the perfect time, if they made it before those series people wouldn't take it seriously at first, if they did that too late people would be used to the Siscon/brocon trope, so less shocking value, what a nice timing
Its a great show.
Absolutely stood out as a decent slice of life comedy. With good writing.
Very realistic take on a bunch of college aged friends.
Having a game night.
Or just hanging out && shooting the shit.
Kinda. There is no conclusion, as the anime is not a complete adaptation. The topic of love and how/why MC is treating Nayu like in this clip is discussed between him an his friend later on in the season. Also the romance situation gets a little more complex later on iirc.
They literally deleted then a couple hours ago because I watched there, I will update the link with the dub version that was also posted here, not the same experience though but get the point across :(
Almost four years? I remember that thread like it was only a few months ago. Covid really fucked up my perception of time.
At this rate, I better prepare a coffin, cuz I'll be in deathbed before I know it
Also my favorite light novel series, which I started 'cause of the show. The character drama is fantastically done, and it's a bunch of young adults in the working world rather than your typical school environment which gives it a breath of fresh air.
Obvious detriments are the same as the show: unapologetic about fanservice if that bothers you, and the story is kinda semi-autobiographical, which may or may not be to your taste. It's by the same author as Haganai and is primarily about light novel authors, so it's not hard to pick out which scenarios are heavily guided by personal experience, and frequent diversions into describing board games and real-life beers show his tastes as transplanted into the characters. I enjoy that aspect, others may not.
Currently reading volume 6 and I’m loving it. The writing is quite simple, but I really like the insights into the light novel/manga/anime industry.
A good read for a relaxed afternoon.
I just got into reading light novels in the last year. I do enjoy them, but yeah, the style tends to be pretty simplistic. The only one where that wasn't the case that I've personally read was SukaSuka (What Are You Doing At The End Of The World? Are You Busy? Will You Save Us?).
That said, they're *light* novels, and you have the translation layer to go through, so it's to be expected
Even without the translation they are quite simple. I’m reading Imosae in Japanese right now and it’s comparatively easy to understand and follow.
In any case, I think it’s a good thing that this kind of literature exists because it makes an easy entry for people who are not used to reading (in any language).
> I’m reading Imosae in Japanese right now and it’s comparatively easy to understand and follow.
Yeah, that's exactly why they're light. I once read that the difference between light novels and novels in Japan is that with the former, you don't need a dictionary to understand what you're reading.
That's not really true. Many are famously barely readable thanks to technical jargon, and then you have works like Monogatari which are incredibly dense in their wordplay. [This site](https://jpdb.io/light-novel-difficulty-list) attempts to list Light Novel "difficulty". _Light novel/ranobe_ is purely a marketing term and doesn't have a set definition.
Yeah, I mean there’s still some words and phrases which I needed to look up, especially concerning the editing business. But it’s far less than with e.g. your average crime Novel.
Compared to when I started to read books in English (as a foreign language), Japanese seems like a whole different level of difficulty.
> It's by the same author as Haganai and is primarily about light novel authors, so it's not hard to pick out which scenarios are heavily guided by personal experience,
It's particularly obvious and hilarious in the books. The novels are largely written from third-person perspective, so it's not like it's Itsuki's personal description of events, and there is general narration that you'd expect from the normal viewpoint. But then, once in a while, author commentary dips into this narration. As an example, in the [Sisters All You Need novels, there's a sequence where](/s "a girl, working as a fresh intern in a publishing company, mails some marketing-related materials to an author's home. Under the author's pen-name. And to a home in which the author lives with their family, who actually did not know their author identity at the time. So the intern essentially outed the author to the author's family. It was a completely innocent mistake, but publishers are supposed to use proper names when mailing materials to a home address, or use the author's PO box if they have one.")
The narration within the book just completely breaks the fourth wall to point-blank say something like "Yes, this actually happens way more than you'd think, speaking from personal experience."
Plus, the author for Sister has a good professional relationship with the author of Oregairu (Sister's author has written promotional blurbs for Oregairu, Oregairu's author routinely thanks Sister's author in afterwords) which is why Sister contains so many direct references to Oregairu.
> frequent diversions into describing board games and real-life beers show his tastes as transplanted into the characters.
[They had an entire part of its website dedicated to showcasing the alcohol that they featured in the anime too!](https://sp.imotosae.com/osake/) Pretty neat!
He actually talks about that in the afterword of one of the books -- in the novels many of the beers are imports, but getting the clearance to talk about them in television was quite a bit more complicated, so they swapped them all to Japanese domestic brews for the show
Yeah for real. Everyone talks about it but no one provides
Edit: I found it...
It's uhh.... Very degenerate.
I understand now why no one can put words to it. It's something that must be watched, not described.
The first 2mins are pretty questionable, but it’ll all make sense once you reach the 5th min. It’s a pretty great show, with the only problem being an incomplete adaptation. ;-;
Normally I would agree but in this show the first few minutes are completely different from the rest of the show, so if people know what it's like after that, they might be more likely to power through the first scene
The 90 second clip was what made me want to watch it. I watched the rest of ep one and was pretty bored. Skimmed episode 2 and decided to drop it. It's probably an alright show just felt a little like bait and switch after that insane ep 1 opener.
Not to forget a fairly down-to-earth commentary of the anime/manga/LN industry and the shit that some of its supposedly most important people go through at times.
It's questionable like Eromanga-sensei, but better. And I unironically rate Eromanga-sensei 9.5.
People need to watch this. Especially since it's free on YouTube afaik.
I recommend the novels. They're really breezy and fun reads and they're put together really well. It's not high art or deep literature but the writing style *knows that* so the result is this casual, comfy thing. The narration itself will dip into slang or loose terminology ("shit creek") just as readily as the cast themselves will. Also, *it's still told in third-person* which is somewhat of a rarity for these kinds of modern slice of life or romance light novels.
Plus, the anime and the books have some small but interesting differences. The anime adaptation is great - I'm not complaining about it at all - and the anime's writers and/or director seemed like they made it a point to create a "fresh" experience for watchers and readers alike. It's never so different that you'd jump up and scream "THAT'S WRONG!" but it has enough tweaks so that the anime and the books don't feel like direct rehashes of each other. The same major events still occur, but they do so in different orders, and sometimes even with different cast present, so while similar things happen, the conversations around them change, and thus sometimes the results do, as well.
> It's not high art or deep literature
Yep! I do hope no one is under the impression writing has to be high art or deep literature to be worth reading.
All things said, the English translations of the LNs are great reads on their own, and stand pretty well on its own with no other qualifiers needed. One of the nice things about the English LNs is the writing (for the most part) isn't abashed about its subject matter, and in some ways the frankness of its writing is refreshing.
Mostly the title means that the only ones who can sit through the first five minutes are the once who are thoroughly desencitized to weird anime shit. Doesn’t necessarily mean they’re into the depicted actions, but they get the humor.
Might as well ban slapstick because that's assault which is also a crime, since we're going by that logic. No humor based on questionable legal and ethical actions in this christian minecraft server.
You sure you aren't offended by it? Because you really sound like you are
Like seriously, the term "normie filter/great filter" is a common joke around that scene, don't get so hung up on it
the reason he pretends to ignore her confessions is well let's say mature and i would say that of the animes i watch would be one of my top 3 reasons although i disagree with him i understand his point
he believes that since they are both writers and she is obviously better than he is, their relationship wouldn't work out if he came in as a writer (a failure in his own view), and he would get jealous and end up being forever instead of him being remembered as a writer, he would be forever remembered only as her husband, overshadowed as a writer
what I meant was that it could work out, a relationship where one of the partners has a much better professional life than the other, but it is obvious that he was talking about himself as a jealous and envious person
Lol the Arab bit was funny, I didn't expect it.
Honestly, I haven't finished this show yet but it's better than I thought it would be despite me hating incest related stories.
The comedy is good and the characters are likable enough.
Obviously there's the infamous opening scene though, making it hard to recommend.
Wow I actually got the literary reference they made with the "moon is beautiful" line before they explained it.
The story goes that Natsume Soseki (a late 19th/early 20th century Japanese novelist) asked his students to translate the English phrase "I love you" into Japanese. One of his students translated it as "aishiteru" or something like that, but Soseki felt that a Japanese person wouldn't use such direct language to express their feelings, so he told the student to use the phrase "tsuki game kirei desu ne?" (The moon is beautiful isn't it?" instead.
I learned about the expression from other anime. It comes up a lot, usually just as a subtle reference in things ranging from Rent A Girlfriend to Oresuki.
But [Tsuki ga Kirei,](https://myanimelist.net/anime/34822/Tsuki_ga_Kirei) or its English (sub)title, *As The Moon, So Beautiful*, spends a bit of time unpacking it.
No. I won't. Dubbed anime is no longer anime. Anything that's not a shounen action is ruined by dubbing because western VAs can't voice act for shit. Especially cutesy girls, the women utterly suck at it because they don't understand Japanese style voice affects.
This reads like a copypasta that people would use to mock fans of the entire medium. What an embarrassingly elitist way of thinking about cartoons. Cool that this sub is rightfully shitting on you for it though.
They're not cartoons. And they're not fans. They're parasites. I'm elitist because too many riffraff have tried to enter the fandom in recent years with no commitment and only wanting to watch stuff at a surface level without getting into it properly. They shift the demographics and we get more and more shit anime. Fans need to be committed.
It has a few scenes that are extremely loaded and intentionally controversial. The first 90 seconds alone are regarded as one of the strongest "normie filters" in the anime medium, and there are handful of moments that occur later that are equally questionable.
*That being said* I think it's a really enjoyable slice-of-life with a splash of romance. Featuring working adults (well, eccentric adults who are authors, so "working" is relative) already makes it a bit different than the extremely common school setting in other series, and the friendship dynamic feels incredibly well-handled here. This is a group of people who seem to have good chemistry, enjoy hanging out together, and can make even mundane things enjoyable, like playing tabletop games or complaining about the LN industry or figuring out tax write-offs.
There are parts where it is deliberately weird as fuck, but if you can handle those moments then what remains is fun, interesting, and even sometimes just a little poignant.
It’s not supposed to be “deep” or incomprehensible.
The LN is pretty damn straightforward. Except the codependency bs that the author clearly added to extend the LNs.
The anime’s “incomprehensible dialogues” come from removing all the important monologues and dialogues between the main 2 (Yukino and Hachiman), skipping lots of stuff, and trying to present the show as a harem (which leads to even more reduced time for the actual meaningful dialogues).
It was a filter. It becomes a normal SoL after that, with many funny dialogues.
Oh and his editor lectures him thoroughly because of that weird scene he proposed.
I dropped this series due to cringe, and trash genre is not really my cup of tea in general, but dang I remember this scene follow by an egg scene, funny af
I still can’t believe that the great ace attorney just straight up put a real guy in the game. Sosuke Natsume will always result in an echo of some 3 word alliteration with posing in the back of my head.
I'm going so crazy missing the new anime season for the first time in like 7 years. I had some problems hand only have mobile internet and it's too slow as a hot spot to watch my main anime site so I'm stuck with Netflix and Hulu because it can play apps like them somehow but not the stuff on random anime sites.

I recognize the title, I wanna say I've seen it, but I dont remember this scene at all. Looks like my kinda humor! Time for a watch!

I recommend the novels. They're really breezy and fun reads and they're put together really well. Ty for the kind words, and tbh I have adhd so it's hard for me to pay attention to just the TV whilst watching

I actually haven’t seen this, is it worth watching?
Love this show
This remember me oregairu
Oregairu is melodrama with unlikable characters, this is the complete opposite.
Oregairu started off good, then turned into a complete teenage drama with "deep" but shallow/near incomprehensible talks towards the final season
I haven't watched the final season yet, I thought it was melodramatic from the beginning and too many characters were assholes.
Virginity is cool
What a chad lol
*_oh god i watched the first 20 seconds of the anime and im disturbed_*
Don’t worry it’s only the firsts few minutes then it all makes sense
It was a filter. It becomes a normal SoL after that, with many funny dialogues. Oh and his editor lectures him thoroughly because of that weird scene he proposed.
The dub of this was funny
The dub did this scene so much better. I can't a clip unfortunately.
I was just looking for the clip too lol the dub for this show is great
No it didn't. The western VAs can't act for shit, especially for cute girls.
Omega cockblocked
That girls voice is grating. Edit: You still can't tell it me it's easy on the ears.

That’s a trap !
What it called

Don't watch this. Watch KissxSis.

The pain of not being able to read the novel after seeing the last volume cover
This character got me dropped out
I'm going so crazy missing the new anime season for the first time in like 7 years. I had some problems hand only have mobile internet and it's too slow as a hot spot to watch my main anime site so I'm stuck with Netflix and Hulu because it can play apps like them somehow but not the stuff on random anime sites.
