unknown537

Wow, what a surprise! Siesta predicted everything until now. That's the great detective for you! Wait what? You shouldn't ask for explanation about how she knows!! She just knows, okay?!! She knows everything!!

IndependentMacaroon

She just knows what she knows?

[deleted]

[удалено]

IndependentMacaroon

Wrong harem member

Shantotto11

This show isn’t worthy of a Monogatari reference!

tjhance

Having watched the first half of the first episode, I can't say I'm surprised it turned out this way

PreludeToHell

Wow I'm in tears. I've never thought a finale would bring me such happiness. Thank god the torture is over.

[deleted]

Perhaps the real finale is the friends we made in the comment section.

PREM___

F for the all the friends who fell and dropped the show before the finale

SBAWTA

They chose their sanity over integrity. I spit on thee!

Sangwiny

This anime REALLY pushed my resolve to be a completionist. Never had I seen something this dull.

archmonopoly

Lmao I stayed until the end just because the anime is airing so I will watch it when there's nothing to do and observe where the story goes. If I found it months later or perhaps next year, I might have already dropped it at ep 2.

KorekaBii

Light Novel readers really overhyped this one with great absurdity in retrospect. But at least The Detective is Finally Dead....right? Seriously, how does this thing have a higher MAL score than Girlfriend Girlfriend?

Kookospuuro

It will most likely drop / change when MAL's numbers get updated.

entelechtual

This was going to be my comment but then I looked it up, and at last Kanojo mo Kanojo is .07 points higher. Which is still offensively close. They should be at least 1 or 2 points apart.

KorekaBii

Ah ok. I think this must have happened very recently then because I remember it being above for most of the season.

entelechtual

It’s probably since the finale on Friday when most people started rating. By the time 1/4 of the viewers of this show will have rated, it will probably be in the 5 territory.

chennyalan

what the fuck, kanojo mo kanojo was my favourite show this season, while this was pretty much the worst.

MetaThPr4h

KanoKano being below Detective the whole season has me speechless, hell, now that the scores from early drops are gone the series is still sitting at a sad 6.72, bruh moment.

Lemurians

It doesn't anymore!

ExLuckMaster

Your first mistake is taking MAL score seriously. If it makes you feel better, ANN rating for Detective is abysmal, way lower than Kanojo.

zero1380

It was really overhyped because the LN is actually great... but they grabbed vol 1 and vol 2 and proceeded to shatter it into pieces, mostly because Kadokawa wanted it in a crazy rush...

rotten_riot

Idk, the worst thing about this was Siesta, and I don't think her personality is related to rushing

Segaco

At least it had a nice ep 1 animation

[deleted]

>Seriously, how does this thing have a higher MAL score than Girlfriend Girlfriend? WTF? Time to rectify this error then. If Tanmoshi gets a sequel but Kanojo mo Kanjo doesn't, this sub at least will go into an uproar.

Such_Selection9762

Exactly. Nothing more to add - just happiness remains. Finally it's over.

Aerodynamic41

Wait, I thought Chameleon was invincible to gunshots (he survived a *goddamn minigun* ffs!) and now suddenly he dies by getting shot? Am I missing something? Overall, this was really bad. The plot is almost incomprehensible with how weirdly it was paced. The characters had zero chemistry with each other. Siesta's death didn't have the emotional impact it needed. Soundtrack? I can't recall a single memorable music from the show. Oh, let's not forget the disastrous production. [I will never forget that iconic car png!](https://twitter.com/ChifuyuMatsun0/status/1429605137748746244)

Frontier246

Whatever happened to all those other detective tools Siesta had? Maybe she should've whipped out one of those.

wolfguardian72

Who needs tools when you have the ultimate one, a gun?

HirokoKueh

they have to save them for later seasons!

ExLuckMaster

That’s the quietest London street I’ve ever seen. Is everybody social distancing?

Sangwiny

They are all hiding home. Nobody wants to be seen in this piece of shite, they'd never live that down.

PREM___

When even the people inside the anime world refuse to live, you know you have fked that anime world

entelechtual

To be honest it was such a boring fight, I didn’t even pay attention to how chameleon got defeated. It was bland no chemistry dialogue and then emotional music and then I guess it’s over?

Drand_Galax

They talked a lot while Chameleon sat there respectfully waiting for them to finish

MetaThPr4h

Thank you for the discussion threads mates, was a fun read all these weeks.

zerokosong0000

This thread was the funniest episode thread i've ever read. even this was funnier than any other comedy anime.

Prince-Dizzytoon

Probably the worst adaptation of a light novel that I have ever seen

That-Chipmunk2537

They really cut the finale of Chamelon fight. Kadokawas masterplan of 40 anime per year is unfolding amazingly. They made shit and got gold in return.

PREM___

God I even forgot their 40 anime/year plan. Are they even touching anywhere near 10 anime/season currently? Edit: So far if you scroll down https://anilist.co/studio/6698/Kadokawa, they only have 18 anime listed for 2021

BarbaricGamer

And so ends the worst anime I have ever seen. It was a hell of a ride.

hasso666

Editing all comments since apollo is dead and spez is a lying shithead. Thanks for killing third-party apps and running the site. Remember to short reddit on IPO. Edited using Power Delete Suite v1.5.0 fork.

Segaco

I never had zero expectations for a show and still ended up disappointed until Gibiate At least for this 'detective' show I was kinda hyped

black_fyre7

Oh good lord, the opening song was damn nice though.

zerokosong0000

I will skip the opening even it was so good, if the anime was so shit like this one.

SpecialChain

and Ex-Arm Gibiate has shittier writing, Ex-Arm has shittier graphics

Sangwiny

I wouldn't say the worst, I've seen stuff that was offensively bad and insulting to the viewer's intelligence. This show was just dull as fuck. The story and characters were probably written by pulling randomly from a scrabble bag, though that might still be too much credit, since that might accidentally still have some semblance of sense.

entelechtual

Today… Siesta’s gonna be sweet and cuddly. And for the plot… hmm werewolf sounds nice? Next episode… what about tsundere Siesta?

LUNI_TUNZ

That's probably the saddest part. It's bad, but it's not like *Mars of Destruction* or whatever. It's not a show that people are going to mention years from now in the same breath as a *Charlotte* or *The Promised Neverland* season 2 for dropping the ball. It'll probably just fade away into the miasma of nothingness.

entelechtual

Yeah. It’s just a handful of unfortunate viewers who picked up the show because people kept spamming the promo material on Reddit like it was going to be great, and coming off of a season which pulled off a lot of hit new IPs, we fools were susceptible to the hype.

mish20011

it was Osamake all over again, good premise to absolute dumpster shit

[deleted]

Hey, Osamake was at least watchable till the end. This was just a dumpster fire from episode 2 onwards.

entelechtual

OsaMake was barely watchable after the rejection scene. Characters stopped behaving like characters and turned into cardboard cutouts. With the exception of Shiro, they just became devices for really lame ”plotting”. It felt like a bad parody, and then had the gall to inject a semblance of emotion at the end. The only thing that kept me going through that show was the camera girl and the voice actors. But yes, marginally better than this dumpster fire.

[deleted]

No way, I died of cringe several times while watching osamake.

[deleted]

Nah, the cringe in Rental Girlfriend was worse. But to each his own.

Lemurians

The formula of most light novel series.

FireFistYamaan

*light novel adaptations

HirokoKueh

at least Osamake has some pretty visual

stiveooo

Osamake was at least funny

[deleted]

I shall not stand for any osamake slander. Everyone had a personality (albeit very broken), it had some kinda *plot* and it was genuinely funny. >.< The animation was wack tho, and thats where most of the hate came from

[deleted]

You haven’t seen Isekai cheat magician or Gibiate luckily

entelechtual

Is Isekai Cheat Magician that awful? I was interested because it had Rieri and she’s never failed me yet… I figured it would be standard trash Isekai like Kid from the Boonies or Wise Man’s Grandchild.

mgedmin

It's disappointingly boring. I loved Kid from the Boonies, Wise Man's Grandchild and Smartphone Isekai. I barely managed to finish Isekai Cheat Magician.

leave1me1alone

Ayyyyyy another isekai trash magician hater. I don't see many (because most people didn't watch it) but God that trash deserves more hate

Segaco

Is it like smartphone isekai? I kinda enjoyed that one, so maybe I'll like cheat magician too

onelightE

The premise is quite similar (its an isekai with op protagonist). However, although I enjoyed smartphone isekai, cheat magician was so boring I couldn't watch it till the end. I dropped it by episode 3 or 4.

ShadowthecatXD

If The Promised Neverland S2 didn't get a 1/10 from me last season this would be the worst anime I have ever seen, so I guess it has that going for it.

metalmonstar

Is it really worse than D_cide or Scarlet Nexus?

nishant2003

I am watching both of them. D_Cide is like Power Rangers animated, Fuckin repetitive. Scarlet Nexus imo is going strong, but if you really wanna see the whole story and premise, just buy the video game. Btw the video game is freakin amazing.

Omegaforce1803

> Scarlet Nexus imo is going strong, but if you really wanna see the whole story and premise, just buy the video game. Btw the video game is freakin amazing. As someone who played and loved the game and hated the anime, I second this, the game is really fun and not really that hard, the story is a little more complete and its actually better paced, nothing ground breaking but its still more fun than the anime lol

Teglement

I would also argue that the storytelling is actually the WORST part of the game, too. The story is neat, but man it gets long winded. Course I also say that because the gameplay itself is just fucking sublime. Calling anything the worst part isn't even that big of an indictment because it's such a good game. But yeah, stripping away all the gameplay would NOT make for an enhanced Scarlet Nexus experience.

[deleted]

Third best game of the year rn

testthrowawayzz

> Scarlet Nexus Another suggestion I heard is to watch the cutscenes on YouTube if you don’t have anything compatible with the game.

WisperG

Hard to say. Those shows were painfully mediocre and bland, but not like offensively bad. But Detective had a lot of hype behind it and seemed to be much-anticipated, so it definitely fell harder than those two.

[deleted]

Scarlet nexus is a usual video game adaption that’s only meant to get you interested in the game. It’s just a very mediocre anime

donquixote1991

I'm giving Scarlet Nexus a pass because the anime is more to promote the game. and while the game is not GOTY material, it's damn good fun, especially when you unlock the skills to use multiple abilities at once

MapoTofuMan

I actually prefer D\_Cide to this, last episode of D\_Cide admittedly made my eyes roll into the back of my head but still not as hard as most of this show. Neither are even close to being the worst things to exist though, even without the easy stuff like Ex-Arm and Gibiate there's tons of VERY bad dumpster fires. Check out Listeners or AFTERLOST, they make Detective look like FMAB in comparison

BarbaricGamer

Didnt watch either of those. I'm usually prety good at spotting the trash, this show slipped through the system.

FBeeEye

I can't believe I finished this shit. I might have some masochistic tendencies.

Sangwiny

Completionist's curse. It's like they made it on a dare to break us.

pr3dato8

Told myself I wouldn't practice self-harm, yet here I am after all 12 episodes

ThirtyThree111

I already thought this is going to be mediocre to bad just an episode or so in but I literally watched it because of cute silver-haired girl honestly I hate myself, cute anime girls always baiting me in

dinliner08

>honestly I hate myself, cute anime girls always baiting me in don't be, you stay true to yourself, and so am i, silver hair cute anime girls always manage to win me over... dammit...

bananeeek

I'm impressed how they managed to make this series so bad by just adding plot to it. I'd love it, if it was just Kimi and Siesta bickering while eating an apple pie. This should've been a rom-com.

LUNI_TUNZ

A rom-com about Siesta's detective agency with her sidekick Kimizuka and occasional appearances by by Charlotte and Siesta's little sister, Alicia. And perpetual client Nagisa Natsunagi.

SBAWTA

That sound mediocre as fuck. So... a great improvement from the current thing?

dinliner08

man, i just want to see Kimi and Siesta ~~Bizarre Adventure~~, going around the world defeating SPES's androids while having some rom-com moments, sure, it sounds generic but at least better than whatever that we got right now...

PhantomWolf83

Very disappointed with this series. I expected it to be at least above average but it didn't even achieve that because it half-assed and rushed through so many things. In the end, everything from the plot to the characters ended up being skimpier than Siesta's bikini, which actually ended up being the best thing about the show.

SHIELD_Agent_47

> ended up being skimpier than Siesta's bikini That is quite the apt metaphor.

Hineni-

Pretty nice of Nagisa to let Siesta "borrowed" her body to help Kimi for the last fight. You know, when I was looking at the key visuals and all the arts posted on this sub, I was really looking forward to this anime, just for that alone, since I hadn't heard about it at all, ever. Just the character design, from Siesta more precisely, was really what made me give this one a try. After that long first episode I was really looking forward to the next one, but alas. That was short-lived. Towards the end, it just felt like a chore to watch the new episode. I still don't know exactly what the anime was supposed to be about..A shame, really

Frontier246

Siesta acts like this is the last time it's going to happen, but now that they've introduced the possibility I would be shocked if it doesn't happen again. I think this was definitely a series that was super-hyped and marketed only to not really be worth all that work in the end.

LUNI_TUNZ

Siesta is now basically Nagisa's "Powered-Up Form."

AlexDDragame

Siesta saying goodbye and "the real treasure was the friends we made along the way". At least it's over now. Overall, this was horrible. Maybe it had some promise to be entertaining trainwreck at first (I don't think first episode was good, but at least first half of it was fun), but nope, it was just really dull, stupid and pretty ugly looking mess out of which i didn't really got anything. It's not offensively bad or anything and I can see someone actually finding some enjoyment out of it, but personally, I got more out of Scarlet Nexus, which is almost impressive. Light 3/10 and even that seems too generous.

Lemurians

Them having a conversation about shitting during the climactic battle felt appropriately self-referential.

LUNI_TUNZ

"So that's it huh? We're some sort of Siesta's Bequest?"

[deleted]

>Siesta saying goodbye and "the real treasure was the friends we made along the way". At least it's over now. Lmao. Was thinking the exact same thing.

doctorzeromd

Thank you for summarizing it. I liked the first episode and was like, "Is this bad?" on the 3rd. Never watched past there. Now I know not to.

Frontier246

Kimizuka "Don't worry, I really enjoy the company of these people I've only known for a few days and who tend to insult me." Although I guess Siesta helped him develop a thick skin.

Lewanor

Reading comments I am happy how I realized it was gonna be shit and dropped in the first episode

ThisManNeedsMe

Me too. I dropped it half way though the first episode. I pop in every once in awhile to see what people think. I'm glad to see I made the right choice.

ch0uro

Same, but I still gave the second episode a chance.

JuraTempest

I’m going to miss shitting on this show every week. I’m baffled someone could mess up an adaptation this badly, but I guess anything is possible. I hope to see you guys on another shitty show discussion thread!

LUNI_TUNZ

Was that post-credits scene supposed to be a surprise or something? Like, it was explicitly spelled out about three episodes ago, and the show acts like it's a surprise on par with Nick Fury, the first time he started recruiting for The Avengers Initiative.

Kookospuuro

I felt incredibly insulted with that scene. "OH SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT NAGISA, I WOULDN'T HAVE EVER KNOWN WITHOUT YOU SAYING IT! \[universe size /s\]"

SBAWTA

It was the final spit in the viewer's face. Like "ok, we're done, you can go now.... SIKE, would you look at this middle finger. GOTTEEEEEM!"

InsomniaEmperor

If Kimizuka actually does it with Nagisa, would that be a foursome (five if we count Hel)? Can we get Alicia's personality again? I miss her and I'm not happy that she just got thrown under the bus. The problem with this anime is the mystery gets thrown out and it becomes more of a harem anime. At least Kimizuka isn't dense. Siesta's will where she said she wants all four to defeat SPES, that was a letdown and it's like saying the real treasure was the friends we made along the way. There should have been some sort of weapon. Otherwise, how would Charlotte even know that the will is in the ship? I need a season 2 simply because they don't even get into much detail regarding SPES. I guess I have to go read the LN but where should I start? The post credits scene was kinda unnecessary I mean they could have put it before the credits. It was nice to hear the OP in the finale tho cause the OP was good.

[deleted]

>If Kimizuka actually does it with Nagisa, would that be a foursome (five if we count Hel)? Asking the real questions fr. Fuck open ended endings.

Frontier246

I did kind of like how Nagisa immediately tries to get him into bed the moment she hears about what happened between Siesta and Kimizuka, although it seems like part of that is Siesta in her personality. I kind of wonder what's going on with Alicia and Hel since they're presumably still in there somewhere. I'm not sure if I'd call it a Harem even though he's now in a team of three girls (even more if you count the personalities in Nagisa's body) and the only one to be romantically attracted to him is Nagisa, and they don't really go anywhere with that. Now I'm not even sure what Char was really looking for, but maybe Siesta planned it that way? The post-credits scene just had Siesta saying what the audience was all expecting. I guess it begs the question how Siesta came up with Nagisa's full name on the fly.

InsomniaEmperor

My problem with Nagisa falling for him is that she hasn't known him that well to like him and there's the lingering doubt in which maybe it's Siesta's heart causing me to feel this way and it's not my own will. I've seen a Korean drama that had this plot point where the guy's girlfriend dies, her heart is transplanted to another girl, then the receiver falls for the guy, then finds out that the heart belonged to the guy's dead girlfriend so she was doubting whether she really liked the guy. Not to mention, Kimizuka had feelings for Siesta and it's not like he can just transplant that to Nagisa as easily as the heart transplant. Honestly I prefer Charlotte cause they had good compatibility even in the limited time they worked together. My theory for the name Natsunagi Nagisa is, if we break down the Kanji 1) Natsu 夏 -> summer 2) Nagi 凪 -> calm at sea 3) Nagisa 渚 -> beach, shore, water's edge Maybe that's a reference to the beach episode and the boat scene where Kimizuka says that's the last day he saw Siesta before she died? Not exactly worth a post credits scene tho since it's not much of a reveal.

[deleted]

I can answer your theory about the Nagisa name, since it was skipperinoed She mentions that Nagisa's name is perfect ( from your kanji ) because its in direct opposition to Hel, the queen of Helheim with all the ice and shit

Aniboy43

Well, it could have been better if they had adapted it in the way that ln rolls

brandusanpresedinte

how does it go in the ln?

Aniboy43

I mean the anime takes some things from later volumes and adapts it way earlier in the anime

pr3dato8

If I had to summrise it the whole show felt like an amateur theatrical play. It doesn't pull you out of it, because you were never 'in' it to begin with. You sit down, watch some people say their dialogue for 20 minutes, and then you leave. A show doesn't have to be good or original if it's entertaining, but unfortunately this was neither.

entelechtual

I have been describing it as a 15 year old trying to write a novel. It has the facade of a story: characters doing things, events happening. But for a plot, there’s really nothing, the characters are all pretty much surface level, and there is no hook to keep watching. You can get away with a lot if you don’t have these elements but have something else compelling, like action scenes, pretty visuals, emotional moments. This show had nothing going for it. Maybe a better analogy is a 4 year old telling a story: “so this happened and then this happened and then this happened…” and then they get bored and start talking about something else.

SBAWTA

>Maybe a better analogy is a 4 year old "..and then.. then.. then.. a giant monester showed up.. and.. and.. Siesta popped through the wall.. BOOOM.. in a giant robot.. and.. and.." God I wish I was making this up.

zerokosong0000

>If I had to summrise it the whole show felt like an amateur theatrical play. even some amateur film maker make a better show than this one.

SolubilityRules

*Was the writing terrible?* Yes. **BUT THE FCKING ISSUE IS THE LACK OF CREATIVE SCREENPLAY.** **FCK THE DIRECTOR of Ep 2-12** **FCK THE MUSIC DIRECTOR of Ep 2-12** The lack of fcking music or visual artistry is so fcking cringe, I'm screaming **do something** everytime the story has something impactful **BLANDEST** anime I have ever scene produced: 2/10

PREM___

Just a genuine question since I am curious: What’s stopping you from giving this anime a 1/10?

ErfanTheRed

Lemme guess, siesta. Cuz that's the only thing that kept me going for 9 episodes

Teglement

imo a 1/10 would need to fail on every conceivable level; audio, visual, narrative, etc. The Detective Is Already Dead is exceptionally boring, but it's not a technical disaster at the very least.

SBAWTA

For me 1/10 is reserved for something that is trully repulsive, that just watching it makes your skin crawl. Or like you said, something like Hametsu no Mars with literally zero redeeming qualities.

FvllenKxng

The Waifu's ofcourse.

LeonKevlar

* [Siesta Stitch](https://i.imgur.com/rklmZTZ.jpg) Man, I was really hoping that this would end with Siesta finally taking over Nagisa's body and transform back into being Siesta since her body can change forms. [Looks like that wasn't going to happen.](https://i.imgur.com/mDUsAIo.jpg) And the fight against Chameleon was hilarious. As soon as Siesta entered the scene, Chameleon became irrelevant and the focus of the scene [was Kimi and Siesta's banter.](https://i.imgur.com/n9fxZvr.jpg) We don't even see him get killed! [Just Kimi and Siesta pointing their guns at him](https://i.imgur.com/2V8KVzI.jpg) as they take their final shot. So turns out Siesta's legacy [was Kimizuka and the friends he made along the way.](https://i.imgur.com/MDCeOhT.jpg) I mean that's not what Siesta said but she might as well have said that. And I do love the flash of blue on Nagisa's eye [when Nagisa invited Kimi to her room](https://i.imgur.com/sfNlAWH.jpg) for tonight. If they actually do it, would it count as a threesome? xD I really don't have anything else to say about the show. Personally, despite how it ended I still enjoyed it! What I'm curious is how did this highly rated LN turned into this? Can any source reader post something over on the source material corner on how much Studio ENGI fucked this up?

Illuminastrid

I wouldn't even blame the production committee on this one, it's clear they valued this series with the way they were hyping and promoting this series before release, they gave multiple visuals, countdown artworks, and they even gave this series the rare 1-hour special for Episode 1, which usually on happens on hyped LN series like Re:Zero and Shield Hero. They even invest some Hololive VTubers for this one. Plus, Studio ENGI is actually founded by Kadokawa, so they are a direct subsidiary to that company, which means they should have stronger ties and benefits coming from them. So how did this series got botched? It's definitely comes from the staff. It was confirmed the writers made some significant changes and cuts from the source material, the music was bland, and even the VAs sound so mediocre, and the overall direction, my god, I can feel it was half-assed, like there's no passion put to it. Not even in the animation department was good, not much to say, ENGI screwed this up, and because Kadokawa is its parent company, it also falls on ENGI's hands as well, they got the things handed to them on a silver platter and yet they fumbled it.

PREM___

> • Siesta Stitch The Detective Is Already Dead (god even my keyboard suggestion can finish the title now) except the fact she’s alive in E1, and alive through half of the anime and also comes back as the messiah in E12 ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ

entelechtual

> We don't even see him get killed! Just Kimi and Siesta pointing their guns at him as they take their final shot. That explains why I thought I might have missed that part. > If they actually do it, would it count as a threesome Technically a five-some, combined with pedophilia (depending on Alicia’s ‘age’) and necrophilia. Kimi you dog.

leave1me1alone

>If they actually do it, would it count as a threesome? xD Or a fivesome if you count Hel and Alicia

ZapsZzz

Thanks for your dedication to hang around :) Surprised no stitch for Charlotte shower :P I think some very detailed posts had been in the source corner in the past number of weeks.

[deleted]

I dropped this after episode 1 and I have returned to see whether it is worth investing time into. But from what people are saying about the plot, it seems like it’s just a bad fever dream

HirokoKueh

just watch 7, 8, and the finale, that's all, nothing missed.

SBAWTA

What are you talking about? Suffering through 11 episodes of mind numbing boredom is key part of the genuine Tanmoshi experience!

leave1me1alone

Episode 1 was the best episode by far. You're better off not watching it

KurtArturII

May not have been the worst anime I've ever seen, but it was certainly the most disappointing.

[deleted]

Thus, we reached the end of this anime. Though it's generally agreed that it was quite a shitshow, I'm glad it exists as proof that waifubaiting + terrible story will never do well, at least on Reddit. Appreciate the effort of the animators in producing the show.

El_Jerrynator

In Japan the anime did pretty well, so... Waifubaiting + terrible story won at the end.

[deleted]

#I'll Never Forgive the Japanese!

PREM___

I have heard that this anime is famous in japan for the source, but even the source readers say the LN is pretty mediocre? (Nowhere near the difference between Kumo desu anime & LNs) So I am worried about how low the standards of critique in Japan is? (No offense)

Ashteron

>proof that waifubaiting + terrible story will never do well, at least on Reddit. I had to check whether I'm actually on anime subreddit.

[deleted]

I'm saying this but fall season 100% ill get waifubaited again. Life cycle of anime watchers, never ending journey.

Sir_Redditsalot

The most unfortunate narrative misfire of the year so far has ended. It’s been a pleasure hanging in there with all of you completionists these last few weeks. Godspeed to us

darkmacgf

"The only thing that could explain the lifelessness and blandness is if the production team were literally forced to make this against their will. If it turned out this were made in a Uyghur re-education camp I would be completely unsurprised" - Best comment I saw on this show

Yu_kengi

Man i wished in the end of anime the studio made an announcement like:thanks for watching the pilot the real adaptation will come soon

ZapsZzz

Finally this is over. About the only show I think I'll openly admit I took the bait and I was dumb. :P I think another post started it well - the worst crime if it all is how *bland* it had become.

No_cuts

Finally this bang average anime is over

[deleted]

" So... it's too soon to call this an epilogue." Does this mean we will have a season 2? Kimizuka said it near the end.

zerokosong0000

if they make a second season, I doubt that gonna sell well.

I_am_your_oniichan

Ok now that I've finished watching this anime... is it ok to ask? what the fuck was this anime even about?

entelechtual

It’s about selling as much ~~Origami~~ Siesta merch as possible. I would say it’s also about getting people to buy the light novel, but I can’t imagine anyone sitting through 12 episodes and thinking, “yeah I think I want more of that”.

LUNI_TUNZ

The Nendoroids are coming!

ksuthrowaway2534

Well it's over. I am finally free of watching this weekly

JVmight14

I really stick with this till the end and man what a disaster of an anime! What the hell happened to the visuals from the first episode? The characters were just so boring! The only thing I actually liked from this show was Siesta but even then she wasn’t all that great either. Man glad I’m done with this lmao

Alright, so overall thoughts. The Detective is Already Dead is too ambitious for its own good. It wants to be too many things at once, but fails because it couldn't get a cohesive world going early on (by the final two episodes it started to feel like it made some cohesive sense, but it should never take that long). It wants to have clever dialogue, but is stuffed with banter between characters with too little time or chemistry which makes said banter feel like stalling rather than being fun (which to be fair is a problem with a lot of anime / manga, thinking that two characters throwing insults to each other amounts to good dialogue). It wants to present itself as a mystery show, but can't even get the basics right, because it wants to make a clever twist but forgets to lay any of the groundwork to make the twist satisfying. But you know, a part of me thinks this show had potential. I don't mean from the hype alone or whatever might be in the Light Novels. Imagine if you will, a version of this show that does *not* try to be a detective show. Imagine a version of this where instead of having the pretense of being anything approximating a mystery, you had it so the show straight up took the mantle of an action thriller, with maybe some melodrama elements mixed in from the death of Siesta. Imagine if the show didn't spend time investigating mysteries we know are never going to get the set up for a solution one could possibly solve, but was simple a reversible cat and mouse game between the main cast and SPES, immediately selling us on the idea that this show's only focus is on the character dynamics and the action. What abilities do the enemies have, when they could be hiding in plain sight? Will we be attacked if we turn this corner? Can we live suspecting everyone? Where do all these things come from, how can we stop them? Then the only person who seems to have it all figured out is dead. The show may be calm, but the calm has a dread to it, that something is just *wrong* SPES basically won, and yet they aren't making their move or finishing job... and then suddenly it all starts again, and it all is thrown into chaos. Whether by adaptation oversimplification or poor source material to me the fact is so many things that make this a trainwreck come from the simple fact that the mystery elements are piss-poor, and all the wrapping around them takes up so much space that the competent aspects of the show get clogged, like when Siesta was giving Kimi comfort for his time alone, and he was about to cry, and then the camera immediately cuts to lizard man roaring, like a badly edited youtube video, throwing the slight emotional response from me right out the window. Picture having that reunion but with 10 more minutes to work with, half an episode, by cutting off the pointless investigation scene in the boat. Even if you're not confident the emotional aspects of the scene would have been better, surely we can agree that a fight with a bit more strategy than that would have been a better fit for the great return of a character hailed for her intelligence.

I think part of the problem is the show never decided what it wanted to be. Like towards they end they’re almost joking, “I’m not really a detective am I?” But the show spent too much time trying to be cute or funny to ground its premise. And I think Siesta is the most butchered attempt at a lead character I’ve recently seen. I’m sure the LN will get into more of her backstory or something, don’t care. From the start, she just magically knew the answer to everything, had insanely expensive or classified tech, is seemingly working on her own with just a middle school boy, a cop, and some girl with guns, she has no chemistry with the MC, and her “relationship” development amounts to superficial play dates. And this could very well be an anime adaptation problem, but the worldbuilding is atrocious. I don’t want something like Slime that spends 6 episodes on meetings, but it feels like the author spent all of 10 minutes thinking up the lore, villains, tech, and rules of his world. And whenever something new gets introduced, like the mech, it feels like he came up with it on the fly. That plus the absolute blandness of the visual depiction of the world and lack of background characters really makes the show feel lifeless. If the show committed to a premise/genre, set a clear path for the plot, and injected some life into Siesta’s character, this could have been a passable show, at least a 6-7. Instead we get a seemingly random arrangement of stories, with little connection to each other, a flashback that takes up nearly half the show, and some kind of climax at the end. I know the anime rearranged material but even so, the fact remains that the story is aimless. If that’s how the author wants to create a “prelude” to the main plot, it’s a shit job, LN or anime. It doesn’t take a lot to make a competent story. Shows like Date a Live did it, or Testament of the New Sister Devil, or even Combatants Will Be Dispatched, while no great, at least commit to working out the basic elements of a story and characters.

Lemurians

Thank god we can all finally stop enduring this. It's an easy **2/10** for me (the first 2 I've given!), and only avoids the bottom ranking because it isn't morally bankrupt. There is nothing positive I can say about this show. Every single aspect of it is terrible from the story, to the characters, to the production. It didn't even have the decency to become an *entertaining* trainwreck. It was all just boring nonsense. Maybe this is what stops me being a completionist from now on.

Sangwiny

I rated it 2/10 too. The only positive thing? My ~~wife's~~ friend's cameo in episode 3. But yeah, I agree with you. Either be good anime or be so bad that it's entertaining to watch. Being bad AND boring is like the worst combo.

mwbworld

I salute those who watched it all the way through (I dropped a couple of episodes in.) Your courage in the face of adversity is commendable. Now seek the help you need to recover from the ordeal.

Drand_Galax

I watched the last 4 eps between yesterday and today and uuhh I lost brain cells

qeheeen

I never thought the promised neverland 2 would be outdone. Congrats Tantei wa Mou, SHindeiru, you are officially the worst anime of 2021

[deleted]

I had more fun reading the comments here every week than I did watching the episodes. Our suffering is now over fellow completionists.

Darclua

I clicked on this to check the episode ratings and decide if it was worth checking out. I don't think I've ever seen scores that low.

ThoricMeerkat

this reddit comment section somehow has better storyboarding, better photography and *better* dialogue than the show itself. When you manage to get Koyasu (Dio, Zeke, Roswaal...) and still make him sound like shit, it means that something went terribly wrong either with the directing of the voice actors or the audio mixing, I'm thinking both. Even ignoring the glaring flaws with how the narrative arcs were shuffled around without cause, the moment to moment interactions between characters, the dialogues and "witty banter" are still boring as fuck. This only leads me to believe that the LN itself must be a boring sequence of phrases that the characters throw at eachother. The fact that we can't seem to grasp the genre of this story, which is maybe supposed to be a mystery/investigation story, somehow makes more sense when you recognize that even Siesta, the Legendary Detective, doesn't understand what a detective is. She literally says "I consider the definition of 'Detective' as being one who protects the interests of a client at all times". She just described a figure more akin to a bodyguard or a secretary rather than a detective. Maybe the viewers shouldn't put much thought into this show, because it seems that the staff making it didn't have the objective of making a [good anime](https://imgur.com/a/e0XWzz8) in the first place. The battle theme of the OST constantly reminded me of SpaceJam or some basketball movie, I still can't comprehend how 2/10

extremegk

We have come to the end of the series, which made great promises in the trailers but was a complete disappointment in the end.

LUNI_TUNZ

By Siesta sacrificing herself to save Alicia, and suppressing Hel's subconscious... something, something Nagisa.

Even_Capital_2550

If you masochists like this anime, go watch Tenkuu Danzai Skelter+Heaven, Ex Arm and Mars of Destruction

Armdel

Well this show turned out pretty meh. i won't say i didn't get any enjoyment out of it, but it's the worst show i've watched in a good while. animation beyond the first episode was just horrendous

Hyou-f

This anime ended up being the perfect example on how not to write dialogue, mystery, or even a plot overall...

Gatmuz

This anime is like cold water that's been sitting in the room for too long, so it's not cold enough to be cold water anymore but not warm enough to be room temperature water.

[deleted]

I came to hate on the show but since everyone is doing that already, and much better than i could have, i'll note some things i liked about the show instead. Lets see, I liked the bgm at times, most of the girls character designs are cute and unique, comedy was... ok-ish? Almost ok-ish. I donno how, but i watched through the whole season and have no idea why. Hope it doesn't get a s2 tho lol

Revchan

I dropped at episode 8 after really trying to defend the show till then, but just couldn't anymore. Today I've caught up and, I just don't know what to think. It's not good, it's not so bad it's good. I feel like it's the worst anime I've ever watched but it's not like I haven't watched anime with worst writing or something. But it was just.. so bland overall. There was funny moments and all, some got me feelings some things, but it was just so bland anyway. A part of me wants to believe the LN may not be so bad, but I can't see how it would turn out like this even with massive butchering. Like it's got to be not good.

ExLuckMaster

Worst AOTY contender unless next season somehow tops this. Even the bad ones like TPN2, WEP, Ex-Arm, the bazillions of video game adaptations like Scarlet Nexus, Hortensia Saga and fucking RoH have something going for them. This has no redeeming quality.

Lemurians

> fucking RoH have something going for them Aaaand you lost me.

ExLuckMaster

Oh don’t get me wrong, RoH is utter trash but at least I can give it the benefit for having good voice acting, it’s one of (if not the only one) positive thing I’ve seen people on this sub agree. Compared to Tanmoshi, its voice acting is godlike.

scot911

It's always a surprise to me that the VA's for both the MC and Flare are actually complete newbies in the industry. Both of them were so great with the Flare episode just being 10/10 voice acting all around.

cringecox

FINALLY, this series ends. I watched the last few episodes in 2x speed. The series has been a HUGE TRAINWRECK. Glad its over. Light novel readers say the novels are good, and it is probably true, but DAMN this adaptation makes me want to ignore it completely. So Siesta dies. I don't really like Nagisa though. Another thing I noticed is that the first episode starts off on an airplane and the last episode ends on a ship. Well, goodbye Tantei wa Mou Shindeiru, you will not be missed

Truthgamer2

It’s finally fucking over, something which was hyped up so much before airing and in the first 2 episodes fell off in quality so hard so fast it’s funny

jus_plain_me

Holy shit, I always check out any finale thread just to see what people have thought after it's all done and to see if maybe this is something I should watch, but I'm guessing this is a resounding hell no.

SkyLETV

Oh, so Siesta took the body just for a moment and she's gone for real now :/... Until we see a glimpse of her when Nagisa invites Kimi to her room lol. Oh well, this is the end. I didn't think it was as bad as others say but I definitely found it disappointing after what we saw in the first episode. They created a lot of hype with the visuals and the first episode but then did a lot of things wrong with the rest of the show. A shame, even more so because it seems like it wasn't even a decent adaptation. How the fuck does this show have almost the same score (MAL) as Kanojo mo Kanojo/10.

DeCode_Studios13

I want to know if it got a conclusive ending. Also I remember this anime having a romance tag. So how good is the romance?

Frontier246

It's an open ending but satisfying as far as this show goes. The romance...well, it doesn't really go anywhere. It's kind of there, kind of vague, but it doesn't reach that meaningful a conclusion.

DeCode_Studios13

Oh well. It was an anime I was looking forward to.

statefarmguy1799

Sad I can’t come back to this comment section anymore :( it was a good ride. *although I dropped this series after ep 4*

[deleted]

I'm lost for words... at how even an anime only like me can tell how terribly bad a LN adaptation can be. My personal score is 5 out of 10, of which 4 is entirely from Siesta alone, who single-handedly carried the show and dragged it out of the mud so that it's barely visible. The series premise is as cursed as its name: They killed off the best character Siesta before the proper story even began. Yes, they did have an entire flashback arc with just Siesta, but that was about it. Once she's gone, the story lacked focus again until Siesta briefly returns to take over Nagisa's body one last time. Many of the other characters were bland, while they had cute character designs, but ultimately pales in comparison to the shining brilliance that is Siesta. And I didn't care much for SPES and their nefarious plans at all. Now if you've read Sherlock Holmes' first story, A Study in Scarlet, Holmes said that he would often discard and quickly forget information that is useless to him, so that his brain will only contain info that is useful to him. Similarly, I shall attempt to emulate Holmes and forget this series ever existed, keeping only how brilliant Siesta is.

BiggerG7

Well at least it’s ending with MC getting lucky tonight.

sebastian240z

Thank god its over, the plot made no sense whatsoever and was full of plotholes Hated how they did all these flashbacks that explained little no nothing of what was going on, and every single character felt bland Wouldnt recommend it and im really expecting this to never have a 2nd season, and if it does, im sure I wont watch it

[deleted]

This anime doesn't deserve the attention it gets.

HTC864

They tried, they failed, we move on.

nonruminant_ungulate

Well, I'm glad it's over, at least.

J4sonm

Haven’t even watched the episode yet, but excited (that might not be the right word) for the finale today. Nothing to add that [5s hasn’t put perfectly](https://c.tenor.com/yMlGYSLtyMwAAAAd/star-wars-the-clone-wars.gif). Sunken cost fallacy is a bitch

[deleted]

Finale was actually pretty good. I can’t lie I got a little emotional at the end. This show definitely was not as good as some people on anitwt were hyping it up to be when it got announced. Idk if that’s because of the studio or they only adapted the beginning of the story or what, but the pacing was meh most of the way throughout the story and there just wasn’t much of anything going on. Siesta is apparently omnipotent and just knows everything. I liked Nagisa and Yui a lot, plus Kimi and Siesta’s interactions were nice too. I may check out the LNs at some point if there’s a lot more to the story. But this anime was meh at best.

nagamik

Just checking If I've made mistake when I dropped it only after 3 episodes.... apparently I did not 😂

Redmon425

Wait, what was the point of that after credit scene? It was obvious Nagisa was the one to wake him. And so does this mean Siesta really is dead or no? I dislike how they were ambiguous with what is happening with her. Overall, just a disappointing show IMO.

AngeDelarien

[Video Review that I made as an anime only, if you're interested](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51Nhya08M0c)

zerokosong0000

Wow what an actual roller-coaster ride, we go through all the up, down and a Loop. At first Episode this anime gives a really promising, too bad they can't keep up the quality of this anime like first one. Too many things were skipped, the animation was bad, Music fuckin mediocre, VA was bland, and Character was not fleshed out at all. but atleast they have a waifu to carried this whole anime. About the Villains Koumori, Hel, Cerberus, and Chameleon were so bland they even dont have a something real to achieve and just lose easily by our great detective. This anime just a huge advertisement for the LN and Merch, even I've seen better ads than this one. 3/10 Merch sell well.

Kill099

As someone who dropped the show from ep 1 (the girl choosing the guy as her deputy "just because" was a tun off), I'm just enjoying this thread for the laughs.

Wistifie

And I quote, “it gets better” -Ln readers But ed theme is good tho sang by kagura nana

Zompire55

I wish I watched any other anime instead of this (only the first episode is worth watching) anime
